- We all love an App, and everything these days has an App - but how good are they all?
Well, after getting the chance to use the DJI OSMO Action Camera at Y-40 in Italy we put the DJI MiMo App to the full test and got deep inside to see how easy it really is to use!!
In this video we edit footage together from the camera using the App - let us know what you think below!

I’m sold on the Action now thanks to your video. I just love how, through the app, a lot of the settings can be adjusted on my phone, which is a bigger screen to work with.
Fantastic - really glad the video was of use to you! :)
Excellent explanation and I was on the fence. You made me much more interested and seeing how you edited! Thanks!
Ah, what a lovely feedback comment to read - thanks for taking the time, and pleased it was useful for you.
Great video mate. Had my OA since it was first released but always learning. Well presented.
tHf ah thanks mate - that’s a really cool thing to say, and it’s MUCH appreciated!
Every day is a school day right!!
Well What a really helpful guy, had a problem with the software in this video, and he talked me through it, went out of his way, really big thanks, You'd Man.
Researching the Action 3 and you popped up in my results - nice to see someone I trust and not just a generic UA-cam influencer! Useful video. Hope you and H are both doing well!
Hello Simon - sorry, I've only just stumbled across this comment. Sorry for the late response! Glad to see you pop up, hope you're keeping well..? Thanks for the kind comment - really appreciated. All the best - Rich
A great tutorial....I have the Osmo Action, but have been a bit intimidated by it. This really helps!
1955missellie that’s a really lovely comment - thank you!
Glad to hear you found the video useful..! 😊👍🏻
Thank you for this video. It convinced me to purchase one. I picked up the waterproof case too since some people have had bad experiences with that. I really am looking forward to the voice activation.. so cool.
Excellent stuff - in my opinion it's an impressive bit of kit for the money it's at. Hope you enjoy it!
Amazing Tutorial ! I ordered the Dji Osmo Action and thanks to this video it more clear how it works. Can't wait to use it tomorrow !
Brilliant!! So glad you were able to find this video useful!! Happy shooting!!
BTW one question I tried to edit my videos and that worked great but now I want to upload it to my PC is that something you need to do before you put your sd card in the computer so it creates an extra file or is is also possible later on ?
Cool, short and practical review!
Thanks buddy - glad you found it useful... :)
Best instructional video i've ever seen, very easy to follow and clearly explained. Very useful for those who get a bit overawed by technology-big thumbs up from me-well done
BAD SCOOTER PRODUCTIONS what a wonderful thing to say - really do appreciated that positive feedback. It’s good to know the time taken and effort put in has been rewarded! 👍🏻🙏🏼
Black Manta Photography No problem and thanks for the reply- it’s all explained in such a clear down to earth way that I now want to try it out today rather than having a mental block in regard to how difficult it would be. I also have a Insta360X1 and familiarising myself with that was a torturous business that made me want to just return it at one stage. Keep up the great work guys and thanks for the insight.
Thanks for sharing this, great information
thank you for the review! gona get it !
You are really welcome! Hope you enjoy as much as I do!
Great video ! Very instructive! I’m a newbee with video recording and editing! Got my hand on the Osmo 3 so gonna try it now .

Thank you, your video was very helpful 🙏
Thank you Walter - really glad it was helpful 👍🏼
Thanks for the awesome OA tutorial. Inspiring and certainly makes it all less intimidating. Kudos! 👍
CZPO7DUTY oh wow - what an absolutely beautiful comment to read! You have no idea how much I appreciate your feedback. THANK YOU! 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know it works with verbal commands and I’ve been using it fir years!! Thanks!!

Very useful learning video on the Mimo app...I just bought my DJI osmo action camera and looking forward to edit my new videos ... thanks mate ☺️
Awesome - glad to hear the video was useful for you! How are you getting on with it all so far?
@@BlackMantaPhotography hello again mate ...I have posted a few kind of raw videos cause I'm still learning and I want to know if I can and how to slow-mo my video in the Mimo app

@@BlackMantaPhotography thanks again mate 👍👍... what if you are recording live and you want to slow just part of the video

Nice video. If you would please just answer one question that I have I would surely be extremely grateful. When connecting you new Action 3 to your iPhone for the first time, do you need wifi internet or can you use cellular internet on your phone or hotspot? I don’t have regular wifi available way out in the countryside.
That's really good the footage is superb and great quality. The dji is a really good app the only thing is they have changed the settings of the filters on it that is disappointing. But I still enjoy using it for my video editing.
Love your video creating content for the Sleekz®. I’m new to this vlog thing. You provided good info. Thanks. I’ll play around with this app and see what happens. Are there any other editing software that’s compatible with the DJI osmo 4k action camera?
Thanks for the video. Is there a style setting like he Mavic drones have where you can adjust sharpness, contrast, and saturation. I like softer footage.
Unfortunately there isn't - only the pre-loaded filters
Great video man, can you create thumbnails in the mimo app too for youtube?
Great video! Keep up with the good work!
I am having issue connecting the Osmo Action camera with my phone. I download the DJI mimi apps and when it gets to looking for signal from the camera, it keeps searching and searching and at one time my Android phone sent me a message requesting for a bluetooth pairing for a code to be inputed on my phone. The phone does NOT have any option to input the code except for the cancel. On my bluetooth setting on the phone, it did see the camera on the phone. After a long searching and scanning, I still cannot connect my phone to the camera. Any help is greatly appreciated..
thank you buddy should get my cam in post today i hope but will let you know if it works thanks for your reply
Yes - please do let me know. I'm interested in finding out if once connected you can view live stream of the cam on your phone through the app. Cheers!!!
Great video mate, mate i have a ipad mini 5 and im using a kenemaster app to edit my videos then uploading to my you tube channel,, and im planning to buy a dji osmo action,, can i transfer the file from the OA to my ipad mini with the mino app? Then edit the file to kinemaster
Thank you
Shaheen Haneefa you are very welcome! 👍🏻
Thx for vid!
Can u trigger 2 cameras at one time with the app?
Hey - glad to hear you found it enjoyable. Hmmm good question. I used the app a lot a couple of years ago, but have mainly used the 'big' camera since. Unsure of what any updates have brought since?
Really good video. Unfortunately I experience that the APP crashes very often on Samsung. Had to start over editing so many times. Otherwise I agree that it is awesome!
Henriette Thiim thank you - glad you enjoyed the vid! Ah, that’s a shame! I’m using an Apple device with iOS and haven’t experienced Ny issues with the app at all...
Hi. thanks for this great video. just a couple of questions i wondered if you can help with. If you edit on the app where does it save the comtent? Is it on the memory card in the camera? If so how do you download that to save it otherwise you will always be buying new cards wont you? Sorry if its a stuoid question, im new to this. Cheers
Thanks for the positive feedback - much appreciated!
Not a stupid question at all..
Once edited to how you want it, clicked on the button ‘done’ in the top right corner, and you will be asked what resolution you want to export in. 720 or 1080. Choose your resolution and you will then be asked if you want to Save only or Save & Post. When you click ‘save only’ it saves the edited video to your camera roll. Hope that helps?
great video as usual. I have a question that I can't find an answer to and no one has responded to. Can you change from the back to the front view and back to the back while recording? I know that the Akaso Brave 7 LE has to stop recording, switch and then resume recording. thanks
Hey buddy - good question. I know you can swap cameras while recording, but will get mine charged up and see if it can be switched using the QS button 👍🏻
@@BlackMantaPhotography sweet, thanks. I sent the Akaso Brave 7 LE back after a few hours of messing with it. The youtube reviews are good but in reality and straight from the camera footage isn't. All setting were done like they should be but very unacceptable even for $140. feel free to check the video out ua-cam.com/video/_0EUc7n26Ks/v-deo.html
@@JBJHonez will check it out. I’ll be honest - I’ve not come across it before
@@BlackMantaPhotography it’s a cheaper action camera that had decent reviews.
Hey buddy - just realised I hadn't responded to this!! Sorry!!
Yes - you can switch between the front and rear screen while the DJI OSMO Action is recording. I know that because I'm sitting with it in my hand and just tried. It doesn't switch by voice command, but if you press and hold the QS button on the side it certainly does switch between the front to rear screen.
Nice thank you. My problem is finding enough room on my iPhone 6s to install the app.Back I go to deleting hundreds of photos...and stil hoping the iPhone 6s will support it!
I had the same issue with my iPhone 6. Always finding that the storage was full when trying to take a photo.
In the end I upgraded to the 8 a couple of years ago and went for the 256GB memory. Totally worth the money, although I do look at the 12pro and fancy some of the new tech. Maybe I can make it stretch out until the next model is released?!
@@BlackMantaPhotography I finally succeeded in making enough room. Then it refused to install the app from the QR code: integirty of the app could not be verified! At last I got it in by taking from the app store. Yes, a new phone is probably called for. But I also want a younger MacBook ...and a drone...so many 'needs'! Cheers for the chat.
@@TerryMcGearyScotland This made me laugh... Life is so hard isn't it - all the pesky electronic companies rolling out new things to tempt us! There should be a law against it! Haha
What about the countless security issues with this app. You can download it off their website but not the actual playstore..
This completely chsnged my mind about using it and any other products from DJI.
Your thoughts mate?
Hi buddy will it work with the action 3 thank you and good information on the vid
Hi Frosty - so I'm still running my OSMO ACtion 1 cam on the Mimo app and that is still working perfectly. I did see a recent comment from a user who couldn;t connect to the Mimo with her Action 3 to get a live stream feed, but she never came back to say if she got it sorted.
Why dji mimo only available in full screen mode. That force us to tilting our phone to view the screen
Thank
Welcome :)
Great video. Any idea on how to change the orientation of the screen in the mimo app? I would like to get the horizontal screen for better video editing but I can't.
Γιάννης Τσούγκος good question - I’ve not been able to find out how to change it either. Gonna do some research - surely it must be feasible?? 🤷🏼♂️
@@BlackMantaPhotography I really doubt that there is a solution :( But I sent a request both to DJI support and in the application review, so I hope for that change. I guess that it would be easy for them. Note that in the Fly App (same video editing there) the orientation of the screen can change, but there is not a rhythm feature there.
Γιάννης Τσούγκος good thinking - I’ll leave a message in the app review also 👍🏻
BTW, I have the latest firmware upgrade. Also, I was told there was a little bug in the DGI mimo apps which can fix the connection issue. I have to turn ON the airplane mode and turn the Wi-Fi and bluetooth option ON then pair the camera with the Apps. Help!!!!
So you can simply upload the videos to your iPhone and even put them in iMovie ? Thanks for the video!
Basically yes - I find I can edit the contact in the app and then export / save the file into my camera roll. While I generally use FCPX for most editing needs, this is great for quick content from the drone or OSMO...
with the dji mimo app i can only export in 720p or 1080p via pocket 2 and iphone 13. How can i use 2k or 4k or 1440p etc in render solution within dji mimo ?
Useful info 👍
Can you turn off the screens while recording a video on osmo action & see the live preview on mimo app?
Hmmm - I'm not sure if you can turn off the screens - would need to check. You can set them so they time out while recording so could be possible. And yes, you can see the live preview on the mino app.
@@BlackMantaPhotography thank you! I really appreciate!
Do you know I can not playback on the App of my Action 3 camera?
I have a question on the Dj1 Osmo action and the app mimo can you take your app. Then edit it and upload it on a different program like you tube ?
If I understand the question correctly - yes, you can. I generally export my footage into FCPX and edit there. Then save the file and upload to UA-cam. You can edit in the Mimo app and upload direct to UA-cam too.
Great video, as a beginner as well as the Mimo app, is it easy to export your content to edit in other software on a pc or laptop? Also would you recommend any specific software for this? Thanks.
Lovely comment - thank you! Yes, of course - if you don't want to use the MiMo app then just import the content from your card directly into the software you want to use. I generally use FCPX for most of my video editing. Hope that helps?
Can i edit can i edit 1080ps videos on other editing apps on my smartphone?
Hi Richard! Great review! I use Mimo to edit video from my Mavic Air 2, but the video quality when I post to Facebook is very poor. I already changed my video upload settings on Facebook to upload in HD, but still not working. The video is in 4k on the drone. Should I just be recording in 1080p instead? I have a feeling that's my issue. Not sure!
Thanks Vincenzo - really appreciate the positive feedback.
Facebook is notoriously evil for compressing videos when you upload..! When you upload are you doing so through the app on the phone or through the web browser on a computer?
I find if I have an exported 4K video and I upload the full file size through the web browser version of Facebook I can upload the for a better quality upload.
Although, when uploading 4K I always use UA-cam and use a lower file version for social media.
I’ve done a few video uploads in 4K and the file size is huge! Just too big for social media platforms due to the amount of data they need to store...
@@BlackMantaPhotography Thank you for such a speedy reply! Yes, I download my selected shots from the drone to the Mimo app for editing, then I save the finished product to my phone and posted to Facebook from there.
I tried uploading the video from my phone directly to UA-cam and it was indeed much better (1080p). I should probably just stick to editing directly on my computer and uploading files from there as you've mentioned. You have solved my problem! Thank you for the advice and I look forward to seeing more of your videos! Cheers
Vincenzo Lograsso glad to hear it helped..! Also try uploading to Facebook by using a computer/laptop.
I do find a better quality upload for a machine rather than the phone.. 👍🏻
Unfortunately the quality of the image on my samsung note 9 is very poor unless I'm doing something wrong? . Looks great when using my ipad though. On android I'm not sure what settings I should be using. 1080p 60fps ? On ipad I can do 4k 30fps using i movie
Hmmm - that does sound strange? I'm not familiar with Android devices or OS, as I generally steer clear of them. If I can find out I'll let you know...!
Hello Black Manta and many thanks for this nice video. Before buy the dpi Oslo Action, can you please tell me something . My phone (honor 8x) won't convert the 4k video on the Mimo App allowing me to edit. It's an older phone and I want to upgrade. I'm contemplating getting the Poco X3. Cheap phone but good reviews and can handle 4k. Do you happen to know if the Mimo app will work with any modern phone.
Hi Robert - thanks for the question. Whilst I'm not familiar with the phone you mention, in theory, it should be fine. The Mimo app is available on both iOS and Android operating systems and as the Poco X3 is a Google phone I'm assuming it's fully conversant with the Android app shop. The Mimo app works with all modern phones that run either of the iOS or Android operating systems. Hope that helps?
@@BlackMantaPhotography could you please suggest a good phone
@@ammahope1842 that's quite a subjective question. I have only ever used Apple phones over the past 12+ years so am enormously familiar with them, and I use an Apple Mac for video work. Hi, I have and use a GP7 Black and love it. But the app does drive me crazy and I hate when the camera overheats and freezes. Is the DJI Osmo interface much better?? Many thanks!
Thanks for the question Henry... in my opinion - yes, although I'm sure there are some avid GoPro fans out there that would disagree. I have many DJI products and use the DJI apps a lot, and thus far have never experienced any issues with the app. I haven't had any incidents with the OSMO Action freezing or over heating, including when using it in hot climates while travelling... Hope this helps?
@@BlackMantaPhotography Thanks! Yeah, I'm about to flog the GP7 off and get myself the Osmo Action. I use my GP for vlogging and for off-road 4x4 action. Robert Ward Hi Robert, I don’t think you can add a watermark no - you’d need to export and edit in something like FCPX or Prem Pro (or any kind of 3rd party video editing suite). I’ll look into the moving of text and let you know if I can see a way. From memory I think it’s a standard template, but not sure if you can move that template around. 👍🏻
Can we import RAW pics directly through the app ? Good review though 😊
Pruthvi Prince thanks for the great comment. Appreciate it.
Regarding RAW images - I’m not aware that you can, but in all honesty I’m not sure the app would allow you edit a RAW image in the same way you can with a 3rd party post production software like Lightroom...

I bought right away the cable that connects to Osmo Pocket and Android phone to see if that problem exists. Sure it crashes right the moment it opens. Then I wonder how people can use this Osmo Pocket with their Android phones? (I think there are lots of people using Android phone systems too, not only iPhone!!!). I have tested using with my old Samsung cell phone and my Asus tablet (That also use Android) with this Osmo Pocket, and the result is the same: CRASH (it won't open!). Could you take a look on this matter? Thanks.
how do you close the app? When I go out of the app and then go to my phone video and try to turn on to shoot video, it says a video recorder is on and it will not let me begin recording. I have to restart my phone
Bernie Moskowitz how strange - I don’t have this issue at all? When I close the app my phone works as normal.
Is the firmware up to date on the OSMO?
@@BlackMantaPhotography I have it on firmware auto download
also have a problem where when on memo video and press the red trigger button to shoot video on the Osmo3, it does not work and have to press the trigger on screen. It does work for photo only not pan video
Bernie Moskowitz i haven’t used it for the OSMO 3, but seems strange you’re having these issues.
Have you tried deleting and reloading the app? Sounds like there’s a bug in there?
Hey mate, good review. Can you bring DJI Fly footage from my drone across into the app do you know? Also, need to send of just the basic clips to an editor, can't for the life of me find out how to do that- you can only 'edit' the footage
Thanks William - much appreciated. I don't think you can, as from my experience the Mimo app is only compatible with the Osmo Cation, Pocket and the OSMO Mobile 3. When using the drones I've always used the DJI Fly app for the Mavic Mini, and the DJI Go 4 app for the Mavic Pro.
@@BlackMantaPhotography Indeed, so trying to create something with both bits of footage isn't possible- will have to stick with lumafusion. Am using the mimo with OM4.
@@far2ezee Ah fab - hadn't realised there had been an update for the 4 too. Great stuff! In general, I import all my footage into FCPX on the iMac. Only because I prefer to edit on a large screen, and the software gives me more capabilities, especially when editing underwater footage!
Black Manta Photography gotcha, so with LumaFusion you’ve got a bit of mid ground on being able to do some fairly good stuff on the go but not as powerful with desktop. It’s pretty good using an Apple pen, suits my needs.
@@far2ezee geat tip - I'm definitely going to check it out! Thanks for the advice!
I find the Quick app with better AI than DJI Mimo. What’s your comment with their video editing between Quick VS DJI Mimo?
Can’t get my eyes MO3 action, cam videos to transfer to my iPhone
So it takes the phone memory??
Yes - it does. The app is on the phone...
@@BlackMantaPhotography how we can zoom while recording plz reply asap
Thanks
@@NitinGroverSkycar sadly the DJI OSMO Action doesn't have a zoom feature.
@@BlackMantaPhotography oh really this is something out of mind but anyways thanks for your valuable reply
@@NitinGroverSkycar my pleasure! :)
Dont wanna control EVERYTHING from no damn phone!!! I'm an analog baby. Sending this shit bak!!!
Hi Spoon - remember the app is an add on, it’s not a necessity to operate the device.
It can be operated just as well without the app 👍🏻
@@BlackMantaPhotography good to know...but how?
@@spoongee6541 I’ll post the link to the OSMO Action review that I did.
That might help you to understand some of the settings and operation
@@spoongee6541 this might help 👍🏻

Can you export 4k?
I believe you now can, yes. It wasn't possible with the early version, but in 2019 there was an update that allowed 4k download although it was transcoded to 1080. However, in May 2020 it allowed full 60FPS in 4k with the latest version. Cheers...
@@BlackMantaPhotography thank you bro. Great video btw. Cheers
@@MontaneroPaisaMontanero nice one buddy - really more than welcome...
I had a function: “add music from a video” and now it disappeared 😕. Can I add music from my video?
Hmmmm - I don't seem to be able to either. :(
Can we download mimo on playstore
Yes - you can download the DJI Mimo app on Google Play :)
I can't find this mimo app
Strange - what country are you in? I'm on iOS platform and it's showing in the app store. DJI Mimo
My first problem is that the voice control works fine indoors however if I am kayaking it's pretty useless
I could not even load the APP. After 2 days of trying. Man I couldn't even load the DJI Mimo App. I sent it back
Ah man - that sucks! Sorry to hear you couldn't get on with it!
dec 2022 app download done not work anymore - app wont open
Oh no really!? Gutted to hear you're having issues with the app. Any joy now?
Why is not supported by Google and may possibly be banned in the USA? Is it safe or full of Spyware?
Can you add your own music ....
How the hell do I get videos off of this app???
The osmo mobile I take out the card but the 3........aaagggghhhhhhh!
I think the app is crap. Used it with my brand new osmo action 3 today. Its impossible to download footage to edit and constantly says failed to trascode .
I try to edit my videos on here and DJI edits the video itself and only uses 11 seconds of the video. Odd.
That is very odd?? The app produces an 11 second video even though you have imported and edited all of your clips?
@@BlackMantaPhotography I guess I was clicking on the AI editor. :)
@@savagei6130 haha... 🤣
Blame the madness of the world!
@@BlackMantaPhotography Blame Macho Madness? lol Oooooooooh Yeeeaah!
@@savagei6130 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My app works when its in the mood, frustrating.
Lol @stop recording! imagine saying that near a photographer while covering a wedding. Anyway, peeps, make sure to check to see the app is compatible with your phone before purchasing. I ve an android 4, 6 and 9 that snappo and qoocam do not support
Haha... that would be funny!!
Also, might be time to get a new phone 😉
@@BlackMantaPhotography I know, right? Lol I practically took out a mortgage each on those three. I wonder what the latest OS is, and if DJI plan on releasing an android. Might be cheaper to invest in their shares instead 😄
@@UtopiaTimes 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think we’re on iOS 14 now?!
@@BlackMantaPhotography Wonderful! They’ll have us buying a new phone every year now, if not for every app!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
PS Whilst I take delivery of my DJi osmo, (your review sold it btw) any tips on a good alternative to Mimo app for full 360° stitching?
@@UtopiaTimes ah great stuff - let me know how you get on with it!
Re 360: sadly not. I’ve not really entered into that world.
If I come across anything I will 100% let you know though!!
Hell.. why is there no app for PCs? 🙄🙄🙄 it’s 2022 ffs..
