A friend of mine had Raiden Fighters at his studio for a while. I was scared to turn it on incase I got electrocuted, but I wish I played it more. It was balls hard, though! Another great video, Wiggles
I've always really liked the Raiden series but was totally surprised and blown away when I eventually played the Raiden Fighters Aces collection on the Xbox 360; all the games were easily as-good (but turned up to 11). Had never heard of them before that! Great video!
I didn't play a lot shmups in the 90s when a quarter would last so much longer on platformers and fighters. That being said, it was always fun getting mugged by Raiden Fighters. Jet is definitely best in the series. Nice video, BTW.
Same here, tough for me it was more a matter of not much choice, i started frequenting arcades a lot early nineties so yeah, beat em up, 2d fighters, and sports games (usually 2-3 soccer games!) were the ones i saw most. Altought i was definitely a creature of habit, some nba jam, t2 arcade game and streetfigher and the money was usually gone.......also really liked caddilacs vs dinosaurs!
Cool video 🙂I've recently been dipping my toes into the shmup genre on my Saturn and def prefer vertical ones - temped to try that collection on 360, I didnt know that existed but have heard from a variety of places the 360 is an unexpecting treasure trove of shmup games
You're lucky you got the Fighters collection on the 360 in the US, wish it had come to UK/Europe. Love Viper Phase 1 though, agree with your placement. Would be fantastic if M2 produced a port of VP1 and the Raiden Fighters games for modern consoles!
First off, enjoy your vids quite a bit, exactly the genres and systems i like seems to be covered a lot with humor and fast/good editing so whats not to love? Tried out Viper phase one yesterday and i guess i went in with 'Raiden in space' but hmmm the gameplay does deviate a bit mostly based on the weapon types (which you did mention) i am curious though what the link is? This the first time i heard it mentioned as Raiden spin off? Do agree it looks very nice indeed and will def play it more.
It definitely feels and looks like a classic Raiden game to me, and it was also created by the same dev team. I'm assuming the programming underneath the space theme and gameplay is probably the same or very similar to Raiden II also. On top of that, it's pretty universally considered part of the Raiden franchise despite lacking the name in its title.
I played a game like these Raiden games but with helicopters . Do you know which game that was? On the 2nd level the whole stage goes fast as if the helicopters boost real fast throught the whole stage.help me find the name of it
Great video man. I've recently played CYGNI as it was free on the epic store but it didn't feel as good as Sky Force Reloaded, so i was searching for others shmup to try and this video comes in clutch. Also, if you have any other games to suggest like SFR, I would really appreciate them
If you like Sky Force Reloaded I assume you know about Sky Force Anniversary? Also it's not as good but there is a game called I, AI which plays a bit like a Sky Force game in space.
@@dododalu No problem. It's definitely not great (I've only played a few levels) but it has that similar grind/upgrade weapons loop you may get into if you like the Sky Force games.
Interesting ranking, my top 5 would probably be Raiden DX- Raiden Fighters 2- Raiden IV - Raiden - Raiden II. DX mostly is at the top since you can optimize flashing medal/miculus collection & works pretty well for the revamped levels for scoring.
Raiden V might not be the best game in the franchise, but you can't deny it has some absolute bangers in it's soundtrack (Not to mention the same person who made the OST for Raiden V is also the person who made the OST for Elden Ring, Yoshimi Kudo). Raiden IV will still be my personal favorite from the entire franchise from a gameplay standpoint because it has that perfect level of chaos for me without going overboard. (It's also the first Raiden game that I got 100% Achievement completion for on Steam, with Raiden V following soon after)
the only thing i hate about raiden v is, they make a game that should have a huge japanese vibe.. into american or something like that.. it's just a twist of the series
You missed a game. Don't worry, though. It's only the best one in the series. It's called Raiden Fighters: Jet 2000. It improves upon literally EVERYTHING Raiden Fighters: Jet has to offer. Enjoy.
@@wigglesarcade8261 No, it isn't. You put Raiden Fighters: Jet in that spot, not Jet 2000. Have you played it? It's basically an upgraded version of the game as Raiden DX is to Raiden 2.
@@ubervirtuoso If what you say is true, then why have I played it so many times in more than 1 place in the USA? Also, since when was the sound in that version of the game so bad on real arcade hardware? Emulation might not always deliver the right results, but the arcade original always does. The sound and music were actually quite crisp in my experiences with it. I would have been the 1st to criticize it, had it indeed been as you have said it was, but it was really quite the opposite for me. While it is true that the mechanics are essentially the same as its direct predecessor, which is largely to be expected, it has a much greater selection of aircraft made available to the player.
Good news everyone! Raiden Fighters Remix comes out this year with all the Raiden Fighters games in it.

@@varthfalchion6402 Jet 2000 is the same game mechanically as Jet, just on cheaper hw with worse sound for the Chinese market.
