@@StudioMudprints yeah there are lots of series I just can't play because of how the power-ups are color coded. Blue and purple are probably the worst for me. But I have problems with red and orange too
One of the most negative things about the series. Games that aren't color-based can be played on basically any screen and any resolution but any Raiden games on smaller screens I gotta really focus on always getting my Vulcan power up.
Don't have a switch, but just wanna say that it's dope that a retail release of an icon series like Raiden also, OFFICIALLY in the TITLE, includes the name of one of Japan's greatest arcades. Shit makes ya glad and proud to be a gamer in the modern age 👌

Posted this in another review, I had this on the 360 in my arcade cabinet and loved it! Since hooking the Switch to the cabinet I'm probably not going back, although I do miss the scanlines on the 360, the music is that much better in Mikado imo.
I have it on 360 and now on switch. I prefer it on switch now, mostly because I will never have box art again for 100s of digital games... Mistakes were made. But Raiden V seems to catch some flack and I really love it to be honest, I never have someone interested in playing 2p shmups, and they are my favorite genre in general. So I really, really love Raiden V's story mode playing on switch. I think not having trophies or achievements on the switch was a huge, huge mistake I can only hope they solve eventually. When a game has a story mode that branches like that or has many options for replayability, I like t alot more for single player. Casual Players who don't really know fighting games similarly knock Dragonball FighterZ. However, that game took everything about Xenoverse 2, cut out the 3d flying crap I don't like about it, and built a story mode so in depth I've never seen such a system before. Endless single play value. I feel something similar for for Raiden V. The animation and annoying talking people in the corner (I said it, but I still want it there) adds atmosphere and love how it's edging towards bullet hell. With Bullet Soul disappearing, only a bad mobile port of a dodonpachi game on Japan, hell man on switch I play every shmup just cuz the options are so limited. Otherwise I'd be stuck playing sky force and aces of the Luftwaffe all day lol.
Well even though I have it on PS3 I bought it on Switch anyway - as you say, worth it for the portability alone. I play it with the Retro-Bit wireless Saturn pad in tate using a Dell monitor. Honestly the only reason I got this is because this is the first time Overkill has had a physical release, and that's coming from someone who's a massive Raiden fan. Otherwise, this is incredibly weak for a 30th anniversary of a legendary series.
Raiden IV is my favorite of the series as well with DX coming close. It just feels like the perfect distillation of classic Raiden. I understand why Raiden V tried new things because it would be hard to justify just doing Raiden IV again but what they added was just so superfluous while the game didn't really get any better.
Can you do a small comparison video of the PS4 vs PS5 versions? Is there any reason to get the PS5 version and lock out the chance of playing it on PS4, too?

Please review the upcoming PS4, PS5 and Xbox1/Series versions of this game. I’m curious to see if the PS4 version runs better with less input lag than the PS5 version(as has been the case with fighting games) and why there’s separate PS4 and PS5 versions in the first place when both the Xbox1/Series versions are being sold as one. I’d also like to know which version looks and runs the best overall. Thank you 👍🏼

Because of the smaller screen it's not as noticeable. But, playing portable means a very tiny play area and using the flip grip means using the joycons and that's the worst way to play Raiden IV ever. There definitely needs to be a new joycon solution that can be used wirelessly.
Raiden V Director's Cut is still my favorite but I will be getting Raiden lV Mikado for my PlayStation 5 which I already have for PlayStation 3 Raiden lV Overkill and physical copy of Mikado version for my Oled Nintendo Switch.
@@StudioMudprints What's is your definition of worst? I love the fact that it uses a shield meter instead of lives mechanic, also the graphics look cell shaded instead of polygon meaning I enjoy more cell shaded graphics instead and the new cheer system is a plus, I can't wait to see Raiden lll.
@@StudioMudprints Would they leave the game as-is or would they add all the improvements they made in Raiden IV in a separate arrange mode? Because if they leave it as-is, I’m passing.

im glad that im should not worried about Raiden IV update exclusively on switch(cuz i don't have switch). i thought there's some special feature on that. honestly judging by hearing the preview soundtrack that i heard on youtube. it sounds Metal/Rock version of arrangement. and honestly not a fan.
It's not even all-rock either. The original BGM setlist is still the best one after all these years (which was full included on CD complete with arrangements with the North American Xbox 360 release)
I bought this on sale on Switch after hearing great things but I can't get over the slow ship speed. it just feels way too slow to me. I know there's the fairy ship which is fast but the movement and visibility of that ship is strange. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with the slow speed of the first two ships?

It is. Thankfully, the game is still as solid as ever, and i have a real good stick for Switch.

Raiden III Mikado is excellent. I have a more recent feature on that one too. However, I don't like V near as much.

Raiden 1&2 was released as a double pack on the ps1 called The Raiden Project !!
Yes. Would have been nice to get a more modern standalone release tho, so far Raiden Project is the only place to play it at home (officially)

IV really is the pinnacle of the modern series. Obviously, if you can swing it, DX is where it's at, but IV's refinements edge it out.
