Hi Donna, So glad you're enjoying the videos, I'm having fun sharing them with everyone, hopefully you will try and make some of these projects. You can find all my videos in one place by searching Bill Stone's Stained Glass Creations and clicking on my photo. Best of luck with your projects and enjoy the rest of my videos, working on a new crazy spinner video and should post it later next week. Keep an eye out for it!!! Regards, Bill Stone
I have to say, Bill, you have the best stained glass instructional video's on UA-cam, hands down! You selct the best projects! Regarding these charming lanterns, could you keep the came extended on the bottom of the lantern and solder a copper rod in the channel to have a structure to push into the ground if you wanted to set a few of these into the garden?
Hi Carla, Thank you for your kind words, it's been fun making these projects and sharing them with others. I think you could leave them about 2" long at the bottom and solder in the channel a 3/16" music wire to go in the ground. I Will take your idea and make a video showing how to make a free-standing Solar Lantern. My wife has been asking for something like that for her garden, so now is a great time to see what I can come up with. Again, glad you're enjoying the videos. When you have some time check out my new channel on travel, I'm just getting it started. It's called Bill Stone's Travel Adventures. Have a great day. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi, So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your comment!! Hopefully you will check out some of my other videos on my channel. Have a great day. Regards, Bill Stone
Very nice lantern, I really like the design. I was thinking of doing something similar to this, but I’m going to use the flat glass marbles. The ones you can find in the floral department in the craft stores.
Hi Therese, good to hear from you again, glad you liked the video. I have looked at the glass marbles, I found in the package there were a lot of them that were opaque and won't pass light through them. Check them before you buy them!! Thanks for your comments. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi, Thanks for your comment, glad you're enjoying the videos, it's been fun sharing them with others. I hope you will give them a try. You can see some of my larger projects by looking at the Leaded Glass Clock video and fast forward to the end and you can see them. Again, glad you liked the projects. Please feel free to ask me anything about these projects and I will send you a reply. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi Guys, Thanks for your kind words, so glad you enjoyed the video. It's been fun making these projects to share with others. I feel honored you would take time to comment on this sea glass project. I live in Southern California and sea glass is very hard to find, the few pieces I did use in this project were found on the beaches in Oxnard, CA. I looked at your website and your pieces are beautiful, so much work goes into each one you make. Again, thanks for your comment. Have a great day!! Regards, Bill Stone
Hi Bill, Another beautiful latern! I'm definitely trying this one and considering making one from glass cabochons, flat glass circles. Maybe one out of extra spare glass pieces. The chip board seems to be perfect thickness for the zinc came. What size zinc came do you use? Your endless creativity is amazing. I really appreciate how you take time to make everything perfect. It really shows in your finished piece. I wonder how I could add little star fish with the sea glass. Do you think if I foiled them they would stay in place? Love your videos! Washington State fan 😊
Going through some videos quickly I came upon yours and was very impressed with the results of the patina as compared to some people who are using a black goopy grout that gives a very uneven finish. Could you apply the Pantene with cotton balls so that you're not breathing it ? I have never worked with stained glass before I'm looking forward to watching all of your videos.
Hi Leas, Nice to hear from you again, the black goopy grout you see people using is to glaze the windows. It's called glazing putty. The Patina is a different product and is used to turn the lead black. You can use all types of things to put it on your projects. Cotton Balls work just fine. I use a tinning brush, like the one you use to put flux on the lead joints before you solder them. Always use gloves when putting on Patina. I have never been to concerned about breathing it. You're not right close to it when you're putting it on your project. If you're worried about you can set up a small fan or wear a mask when you are using it. I hope that helps you out. Thanks for your comment!! Regards, Bill Stone
Great videos, thank you for educating us! I'm going to make some of these solar lanterns for Christmas presents. If i can ask a question, what is the work table top made from? The tacks seem to stick pretty easily so its appears to not be wood.
Hi JM, Glad you're enjoying the video's I'm having fun sharing them with others like you. The top on my worktable is Homasote Board it lasts forever I have been using this type of board for the past 25 years. Works great with the metal push pins. It is heat resistant and you can solder right on it. I got mine at a lumber yard, not sure if you could get it at Home Depot or Lowe's. Check the internet in your area under that name and you should be able to get some. From the lumber yard it comes in a 4'x6' sheet, can be cut on a table saw. Most lumber yards would cut it for you. Last time I bought some was about 15 years ago and it was about $33.00 for the 4'x6' sheet. I don't know where you're from, I'm in Southern California and got mine at Ganahl Lumber Co. I looked on Amazon, they have the metal push pins at a good price, I get the 5/8" ones. There price on the Homasote Board was out of sight for a very small piece. I also checked at Delphi on the internet, they have some but here again pretty high price by time you add shipping. Hope you have checked out my other videos. If your new to leaded glass check out the video Leaded Glass Solar Lantern's for beginner's, it has a lot of good info for the beginner. Hope this has been helpful. Let me know what you come up with. Regards, Bill Stone
@@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310 Thanks for the info Bill. I have purchased all materials for stained glass making except the board. There are two independent lumber yards in my town that only carry fiber board so I'm still searching for a good substrate. I've watched all of your videos and I'm almost ready to give it a try. Thanks for all the help! Jeff
Hi Jeff, Sorry you're having trouble finding the Homasote board, maybe one of the lumber yards would special order it for you. The fiber board isn't dense enough to hold the push pins. The Homasote board is used mostly for sound deadening in recording studios and any other place where they want to keep the sound out. You might check with Delphi Glass online and see how much they charge to ship the 24"x24". Don't know if you have a Home Depot in your area, maybe they would order it for you. Best of luck on your quest to find the right board to build on. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi again, The video on the hangers is about 17 minutes long and the thumbnail has a picture of a solar lantern with pink flowers on it. I hope you can find it. It has some different ways to use my hanger system. Let me know if you can't find it and I will see if I can help you out. Have a great day!! Regards, Bill Stone
Hi Lisa, I don't have a link other than through my UA-cam channel. This video was made about 2 1/2 years ago on May 17, 2022, and called Leaded Glass Hangers!! If you go all the way back to my first video, you will find it. It's the 7th video I made. You must be on the west coast to be getting back to me that fast!! I hope you can find it. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi Lisa, Sorry your having trouble finding the video you're looking for. I just logged in to my channel at Bill Stone's Stained Glass Creations and noticed it goes to my channel home page, but it doesn't show all 64 videos on the opening page. If you take a look just under my photo you will see a line that says Home, Videos, Shorts and more. If you click on the Videos, you will get all 64 videos up in one place, go all the way down to the bottom of the page and you will see the video you're looking for. It's the pink one. Let me know if that helps you out. Enjoy your day!! Regards, Bill Stone
Nice work Bill. I am interested to build the gig you have. Could you give information on how to put one together. I'm a glass gal who has a friend that's a wood guy that could build it for me.
Hi Julie, Glade you're enjoying the videos. Take a look at this video one more time, fast forward to the 47-minute mark and you will get a great look at the 60 degree jig I use to put the solar lanterns together with. Use your phone and take a photo of it and show it your wood working buddy. He shouldn't have any trouble making one for you. His will probably be a lot nicer than mine!! You can check out all my videos by searching Bill Stone's Stained Glass Creations, click on my photo and all my videos will come up in one place. I hope this works out for you. I wonder, could fire proof drop ceiling tile work in a pinch?
Just quickly looking through some of your videos I'm going to assume this is the one that you recommended that I watch. About your hanger system.
