    I learned this art years ago. Life got busy and for the last 20 years it remained a happy memory. Today your video appeared.
    Learning about the new methods (and tools) has inspired me. This is a beautiful art done using this original method. I will be adding your recommended tools to my original set.
    Thank you for inspiring me to begin again ❤

    Too fast! Not enough time to process the information between segments, nor to see techniques.
    Important topic.

      Thanks for your feedback! I have several other videos 30 minutes to 1 hour that go through everything much slower!

    I noticed some of your pieces weren’t ground on the grinder. I thought after even a clean cut, your were advised to rough up the glass to make the adhesive stick better. True or not? I’d prefer to not grind if I could. Thanks

      Sometimes the grinder can leave glass powder, if you don't get it all off it can compromise the adhesion. You can stick without grinding. The solder really solidifies the bond between pieces

      @@Mr.StainedGlass So if I have a clean nice looking break, then I can just foil after I clean it? Sounds great and quite a time saver. I’m gonna try it! Thanks

    What backing color foil do you recommend for beginner?

    • @Mr.StainedGlass
      @Mr.StainedGlass  Рік тому +2

      I recommend silver or black. Silver, you won't have to patina the solder. Black will hide more mistakes, but you will have to apply patina.

    I want to take up stained glass as a hobby, but would really not like to buy a glass grinder. would it be possible to use a Dremel to use in place of it?

    Good info. I always go into these stained glass videos with a lot of skepticism, but you did good.
    I'm a firm believer in doing what feels best and what gets the job done for you. I taught stained glass for many years, and most people had issues with "foiler tools", and always reverted back to doing it by hand. The extra time was never an issue as they were socially as well as ending up with a beautiful stained glass piece.
    The only thing I'd say not to do it patch in a piece of foil. While the adhesive sticks well to glass it doesn't stick well to the copper. (If it is a fresh roll, then typically this is not an issue, but most rolls of copper foil have been sitting on shelves for a very long time, and the adhesive becomes weaker over time)
    You also you touched upon inside curves, slow and steady wins the race, the nice thing about foil is that it will generally stretch more than you'd think.
    And lately, don't waste money on a dedicated "burnishers" (again this is always a personal choice as well) the body of a "Sharpie" pen is all you need.

    I have used the table foiler and the hand held foiler. No luck. The table foiler damaged the foil.

      I found the table foiler a bit hard to use, but the c clamp and creators foiler works great for me.

    I was pretty convinced I'd never be able to do any of this, but maybe with one of the tools at the end, it's possible :)

    Very informative video, especially for a beginner like me. Great idea with clamping the hand foiler, I’m going to try that! Thank you!!👍🏻

    What about taping a curved edge like a bottle edge….

    • @Mr.StainedGlass
      @Mr.StainedGlass  10 місяців тому +2

      I would do a ring of tape on the face of the bottle first, then do a layer on top of the edge like normal so when it tears it will have foil from the first layer under it. Hope that helps!

    12:35 Wait, 19 seconds faster than what? 19 seconds faster than 5 minutes isn't much, but 19 seconds faster than 30 seconds is a ton.

      I (roughly) timed the recording, and it looks like the tool takes about 2/3 the time.
