Modern Console Table // Sofa Table // Building Plans Available … In this video, I build a modern console table out of some beautiful air-dried walnut. I tackle some angled bridle joints, as well as mortise and tenon joinery and show you how I create tapered legs on the table saw. I also take a mini dive into how to choose the most appealing grain for the legs that can be applied to many furniture parts. Admittedly, I didn’t use all mortise and tenon joints where I could have, but instead used the Festool Domino in the interest of speed and efficiency. I wanted to demonstrate both methods so those of you without a Domino don’t get discouraged. Although the top is 1-¼” thick marble supplied by the client, I think this console table would look equally as beautiful with a walnut top that mimics the bottom shelf. **Plans are available to build your own console table which include a walnut top. #modernconsoletable #consoletable #midcenturyfurniture #modernfurniture

Was watching this with my son, he thought it was pretty cool that someone on UA-cam mentioned my name.... Ha! Thanks for the shout out!
Very cool! Well, his mom is a BIG star!! And I totally forgot to send you the link when I posted it. ☹
Cool parent goals 😄
And I watch both of your channels!
And this is why I've tuned into both of these channels. Awesome people making great content that average users can take to their own workshop (garage... )
As a beginning woodworker watching this video makes my head hurt. It makes me want to sell all my tools. LOL. Great craftsmanship!!
😂 these things don’t happen overnight, my man! With every project you gain more and more experience and develop new skills. Don’t throw those tools away!
First we were making a beautiful sofa table and then a puppy came on screen and I forgot about the table. Yay puppy!
Puppy? You mean cat? 😹😜
Wow, now that's precision!!!! I'm super impressed, thank you for being here!
Thanks very much!!
Keith and Jon Peters are the two best woodworkers on UA-cam IMHO... I learn something new every time.
Wow! Thanks so much Chad! I think he actually lives somewhere near me in NJ.
Not only are you highly skilled in woodworking, but you also have real skill in making entertaining videos
You, sir, are my favorite woodworking content creator
Cheers
Thank you VERY much! I sincerely appreciate the kind words 🙏. And you have one of the greatest account names of all time!! The best horse racing call in history!
C'mon! No one has mentioned your cat with a thousand names? You make it look easy! I learned much from just one video!
Thanks Michael! So glad you enjoyed the build! 👊
Keith I enjoyed your build and congrats for going full-time UA-cam. I wish you much success.
That is greatly appreciated, Bodie!! Thank you very much. All the best to you and your success as well!
Your videos keep getting better Keith. Congrats on the full time UA-cam. Wishing a kids of success.
By the way your voice over is one of the best parts.
Thank you so much, Jacob! The support has been overwhelming so far and it is greatly appreciated. 🙏👊
You are getting to be like "Ozark" or "Breaking Bad"...it's 95 degrees outside and too hot to work in my shop (my kingdom for an air conditioner) so I'm binge watching your channel!
Oh wow! I love what I'm hearing here 😜👊.
Dude. You cannot count like The Count and then not have an evil vampire laugh at the end. Come on! 😀 Great build. All those angles were fantastic to watch come together in the end.
I don't have kids so my recollection of the Count is a little cloudy. 😂😆 Thanks so much for the kind words!
I love the way the marble and the darker walnut goes together. Nice piece!
Thank you, Mark! Cheers!
Good job ,Jesus bless you
🙏🏻👍🏻😎
Its a pure pleasure to see your videos my friend. And your cats also !!!
Thank you so much 😀. And the cats thank you, too! 😺
it came out great .... always keep those nice cats in your videos
Thank you! Will do! They love their shop time. 😺
That bridal joint looked so good I would have used glass for the top so it would always be visible, good work on this table.
Thanks very much!
I like Old Brown Glue too, but it is water based...it's mainly hydrolyzed collagen.
👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, dude your videos are excellent, and I love the humor. Man I wish i had your skill. Please post a video of a shop tour and how you got started with woodworking and how you got so good. Excellent, look forward to the next video.
Thanks Pancho! Shop Tour video coming soon!
Def one of my fav channels from go. Makes me anxious to build my shop in my addition basement. There I will make copious amounts of saw dust with zero forethought and planning and love every minute of it hahah. Keep up the great vids!
Awesome! And don't worry, I make plenty of erroneous sawdust myself. It's all part of the fun! 😂
Looks fantastic!
Thanks so much!! 👍🙌
Important note: A good Shop Cat will always sit on any piece of paper laying on your bench to keep it from blowing off and getting lost. Their mothers trained them to do this as kittens. No workshop is complete without a Shop Cat. Get one!
Great point! If I need to read it or look at it, their butts somehow ends up right on top of it. 😹 😂
you should stamp your logo on everything you make, one day it might become Bob Ross
I may not show it, but it's somewhere on every piece I make 😎
Very pretty. I wonder how Walnut top would have looked as well. Maybe make one sometime with an interchangable top. Who knows, you could start a new trend toward more flexible furniture!
Thanks. The top comes off so you can change it out whenever you want.
Yep, I discovered your channel this morning, I've watched all your videos since.
I demand moar!
Holy cow, Scott!! You've had a busy day! 😜 Definitely more videos on the way very soon. Thanks so much for watching!
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it
@@ScottWalshWoodworking I appreciate you stepping up to the challenge 😂👊🏻
I just rewatched this video to get inspiration for a console table to go with our new sectional. Turns out we have the same type of sectional that your client has!
Ha! It’s a beaut!
Great episode! I love the walnut and marble combination, pleassssse make more in this series!
Thanks! There are 2 others: ua-cam.com/video/11-GmiOSzCY/v-deo.htmlsi=vyHqbVu45Za7M3nK and ua-cam.com/video/gZIOjMqncjE/v-deo.htmlsi=S0JkvolhZ6nubU92

I love how you use your setup blocks for all manner of measurements. I have setup blocks, and have only thought to use them for bit and blade height. I learn something from each of your videos. Good luck with the full-time change. I’ll be here as long as you will be.
Much appreciated, Joe! Yeah, I use those setup blocks ALL the time. I even use those pesky metric ones 😜😂

Yay for you on the full time UA-cam career move! I’m digging that table enough to consider getting the plans. I just have to make 218 other things first.

Love your WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers! 🍻 💪
Soooooo great 👍👍
Thank you!! 😄
Great video man, keep it up!
Thanks, will do! I appreciate it! 👍
FYI: Regarding snug joints and not wanting to swell the grain with glue. I have been experimenting with taking my snug joints, applying a hard surface behind them, and gently to slightly less gentle, hammering the inside of the joint, to compress the fibers. Apply glue, slip together, and Bada-Bing, Bada-Bam. Glued, snug and strong.
Yes! Peening the joint!
Amazing Job Congrats 👊😎
Thank you Luis! Cheers!
Really pretty!
Thank you! Cheers!

Very nice
Thank you!! 🙏🏻
Very nice !!! Keith . Quality work , can you give us a tour video of your shop and tools?
Yes, soon! Still have some organization projects to finish up and then I will do a shop tour video.
Excellent work. Understated design (my personal preference but its personal) very well made. All that showcased with a really high class video and commentary. You deserve success on social media and with clients. Good luck - making bespoke furniture in the UK is very niche and not many can make a living just from that. Hence, the number of furniture schools.
Thank you very much! And yes, building furniture alone as a full-time job is certainly not an easy, nor lucrative career path for most. Finding the right clientele for your style or skill set can be challenging. And to be honest, just building furniture with creating content around it, would burn me out very quickly.
