Hey Keith! Great video buddy 👊 I’ve actually never seen that “L” fence for the table saw before but it’s genius!! I’m gonna have to make that jig immediately, well... maybe Monday, lol 😂
Keith - have you done a more in-depth video on the L-Fence? It seems like a basic concept and simple for regular cuts, but I would like more info on how to set it up for a miter. Awesome solution!
Interesting choice of using both soft close hinges and push to open hardware. Won’t they fight each other? So the doors won’t close until you manually push them in all the way, rendering the soft close redundant.
The soft close mechanism can be turned off on the hinges, but if the client ever wants to put knobs on the doors and remove the push to open option, they won’t need new hinges.
Hi Keith, it would be really cool if you made a video on how you source wood or pick out your materials. I’m an amateur woodworker but am having a very hard time identifying where to buy hardwoods at a reasonable price.
I actually buy a lot of materials on CraigsList and Facebook marketplace. There are a lot of people out there who mill lumber to subsidize their woodworking hobby. Try searching in your local area.
Great build. I really like it. But i can't stop thinking about the woodmovement of the doors and if your solution will work. Of course the doors will move downwards relatively to the sliding dovetail parts but relatively to the dooropening ... ? The fixed point are the hinges, so when the doors swell and get bigger they will get pushed up from the lower hinge an down from the top one. So in my mind, for the construction to work, the hinges had to be installed on the sliding dovetail part. What do you think? Sorry for my bad english...

@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I'm a novice when it comes to woodworking, is it a stretch because wood structurally wouldn't be a good material? Or is there another reason?

I absolutely love these doors. I've done some similar (but much more crude) techniques with dovetail battens for a few pieces around the house and for friends, AFTER I saw this video for the first time. It was a great technique and I've enjoyed using it to up my own game and build some more skills.

I'm not a woodworker, just enjoy watching it. I was wondering why the battens for the doors needed to be dovetail grooves since you also used the elongated slots to screw them down? Wouldn't straight grooves have sufficed?
The dovetail keeps it locked into the panel. If the screws ever loosen, a straight tongue and groove could separate and the door could cup. The sliding dovetail prevents that from happening - it's creates a mechanical hold.

GREAT content. Inserta hinges are a game changer. However when I use Blum's push to open mechanism (Tip On) on hinged doors I typically use a "free swing" hinge which pops the door open way further than the soft close hinge and also helps not have to manually push the bumper in before you close a door that has soft close hinge on it.
Thanks Taylor! Good tip! These hinges allow you to turn off that soft close mechanism, so if the client doesn’t like the way they operate currently they can turn it off. 👍🏻
