Not necessarily. That totally depends on the application. A shock absorber with high compression (hydraulic) or elasticity (spring loaded) would be compressed easily, as the left one is visible. It could well absorb the shock on time and result minimum to no damage to the system. On the other end, if compression is tight, like the right one, it might not compress enough to adsorb shock on time and the system might take the impact load. Remember, it's not just the amount of effort required to supress it, it's about the rate at which it could be suppressed.
@@MaYbYl8eR sadly that's true. No wonder the mechanics these days are having unexpected demands from the designers when they are unaware of the working parameters of the components. But of course the biggest looser is the customer in all this.

Tighter shock ( or over charged gas shock ) is not an upgrade. It will be harder on all components in suspension and rougher ride. Not all shocks are created equal. Evry fluid type shock absorber have gas in it, the only difference is how the gas is stored, gas is needed to prevent fluid from bubbling, it will not work if there is no gas because otherwise fluid will just foam up. And if you really want to test your car shock absorbers then put them right way, beacause if its twin tube shock absorber type and it is upside down, it will not work.
@@markus9199pez i'm 90% sure that neither of you are wrong or right, there are many types of dampers and from what i know they can be both presurized and non-presurized, Full sus bikes with coil shocks (some air ones don't) have something that kinda looks like an oil tank buldging out on top or under, inside of it there's an air chamber with a piston that, when the shock is compressed, oil rushes in to be pushed back out by the pressure built on the other side of the piston. This is done for very compact shocks or adjustable ones that may require or benefit from it, but i don't know how singular tube arrangements work.

It's far more notizable driving anyways, the rebound should be more exagerated and compression should feel faster than normal, go through a corner that produces some body roll and if you know your car you'll realize that the car rolls more and straightens out faster than it should.
