Multi-instrumentalist, live-looper, jazz funk bassist Dr Funk brings busking into the 2020s. He makes the four-string sing. He surfs. His dream is to own a 67 Mustang Fastback. He’s not actually a doctor.

Dr Funk lives to play the bass. That’s really all you need to know. Slapping, popping, strumming, riffing, he elevates the humble rhythm instrument to levels of melody and showmanship that are more commonly associated with the lead guitar. Inspired by legendary bassists - Marcus miller, Victor Wooten, Louis Johnson - Funk is the type of player who could jam on a groove for hours, building it up with his loop machine and keys. It’s one of the most honest, unfiltered forms of performance you can imagine, and it’s one that the good doctor has known since he was 15. Since moving from Sunderland to Cornwall in search of surf, gigs and good times with his band of schoolmates - south west festival favourites The Big Sets - it’s the only job he’s ever had. Over the years he’s taken his unique style across Europe and, most recently, he’s taken his work across the world as one of the most popular viral street performers online.

I think many of the hordes are basically musically brain dead. I very rarely encounter anyone who can sing in tune or has the desire to let rip with at least a 5 second burst! When i do it you get "funny" looks. Of course millions love music but billions are not "tuned in" either!

A perfect example of someone who actually uses their instrument to the max. From the tuning, to the multiple, extremely difficult techniques to the average player, to the mid-song EQ adjustments to fit the following set of arrangements. Fantastic work mate!

@@easyabc1404 That pedal isn't where that sound comes from. His pedal is a looper/sampler. It just lets him record a sample and then repeat it indefinitely. Any looper pedal will do that. His specific sound comes from his strings, his bass, and his amp. But even that isn't totally necessary. You could get that sound from a wide range of basses and amps, as long as they're not shit :)
What kind of bass and amplifier do you have?

If you listen at the end there is a small crowd , you can hear them cheer and rightfully so . The camera is where it needs to be , stuck on this amazing performance .

@@easyabc1404 on top of having good technique, which i'm sure you'll develop if you're diligent, make sure your bass is well setup and that your strings are relatively fresh
