4 Levels of Turkey Sandwiches: Amateur to Food Scientist | Epicurious
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 лис 2021
- We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - amateur Onika, home cook Daniel, and professional chef Rawlston Williams - to prepare their best turkey sandwich recipe for us. Once each level of chef had presented their creation, we asked expert food scientist Rose to explain the choices they made along the way - both good and bad. Which of these turkey sandwiches are you eyeing up for after Thanksgiving?

Daniel, not wanting to be known as the fruit grilled cheese guy, is now the peanut butter Turkey sandwich guy 😂
🤣
now my head is like: It's peanut butter turkey time.
Let's not forget the peanut butter and lamb chop.
But fruit makes grilled cheese way better
To be gair with him... i tried his crazy recipes... surprisingly good i mean crazy good
Daniel: I'm not a pumpernickel bread fan.
Rawlston: Ok, peanut butter turkey sandwich guy.
given middle man was set up to be the idiot, his recipe was odd but competent otherwise. lol
Is this Rawlston's first time featured? I like him he's chill
@@TruuJones he’s in some other ones too! and the expensive vs cheap dish swap vids i think
@@TruuJones agreed he’s cool I’m definitely gonna pickle some collards

Level 2 chef: "I'm notorious for burning bread"
Pretty sure thats not what your notorious for my guy.
Wonderful comment . . . for those 'in the know'.
What am I missing?
And he knows that. Watch the Pro vs Home cook pancakes episode.
@@aneta5196 if you’re still curious, it’s cause he put blackberries and mayonnaise in a previous grilled cheese video 😅
Daniel my man, we need to talk about your thing with quirky sandwiches
like the grilled cheese one, he adds blackberries to it lmao
ua-cam.com/video/JpP3Qnqe6oQ/v-deo.html
@@tofudesu4307 Absolutely not a grilled cheese sandwich, he made a blackberry melt. His fixation on peanut butter is quite intriguing though.
@@unquietgrave4444 uhmm...it's still a grilled cheese, he just adds blackberries to it. don't hate me but i add fruits that goes well with cheeses
Stoner Sandwich Man. I dig it though.
Onika's Sandwich is what you'd want to have for lunch at work. It's clean, not likely to be messy and does the job. Rawlston's looks like a meal in itself. Large, filling, delicious. Daniel.. That's the sandwich when you're high. It's messy, it's got a million conflicting flavours and it would be all about sensations on the tongue.
ua-cam.com/video/JpP3Qnqe6oQ/v-deo.html
Daniel’s sandwich looks like the inside of your stomach
Daniel's sandwich was almost anything but turkey. peanut butter, jelly, sweet potato puree. O.o
🤣🤣🤣
lmao definitely
Peanut butter to Daniel is like ketchup to Emily.
or cheesecake to pancakes
Or booze to Penny
ua-cam.com/video/JpP3Qnqe6oQ/v-deo.html
Should Emily challenge Daniel for his level 2 status? 😂
She's been working hard!

Adding a comment to raise visibility. It needs to be done! They could also have the guy who does 4 different uses as well!
Yes!!!! We need to blow this comment up
Great idea! Hope this gets noticed!
Yeeesss 🤤🤤🤤
Rawlston's sandwich looks real good. I wish they could try each other's sandwich and give their opinions on them.
Totally agree
Yeah when he said he would try the peanut butter sandwich I thought they finally would but... yea
You would prevent Daniel from ever making you anything ever again
ua-cam.com/video/JpP3Qnqe6oQ/v-deo.html
Yes, taste test. I really like that idea.
"Pepper Jack cheese is the thug of cheeses" -Onika
She's not wrong.
As a guy who puts pepper jack cheese on just about anything cheese friendly, I can confirm this as fact. 😅 ~Ry
Yall should try the horseradish chedder, it'll fry your brain
True
💯 Best cheese ever!
@@Toidal horseradish cheddar is great. I somtimes put both horseradish cheddar and pepper jack cheese on a sub when i make them.
daniel cant make a normal sandwich to save his life
You're on a cooking show... you're not gonna put a slab of meat between two pieces of cheap white bread and call it a day!
...I dunno why I'm defending Daniel by the way... his sandwich reminded me WAY too much of the movie "Gigli". This is not something I want to be reminded of.
@@H0lyMoley he said what he said.
@@H0lyMoley you don’t have to! He had a unique recipe without the peanut butter
Can we talk about rawlstons voice, so soothing
Right?! I love his voice!
Fr tho
need him to do some audiobooks 😆
His voice, and face, is soothing trust. I'd go along with the most adventurous, dangerous, and scandalous thing that he suggested knowing I'd survive and be more enlightened because of the experience.
Also love the way he says "pan."
Emily loves ketchup, Daniel loves peanut butter, Frank loves salt.
Penny loves alcohol.
And love you.
Salt is that magic white powder that makes everything taste better :D
Stephen loves cheesecake.
Lorenzo loves crispy bacon
are we sure Daniel is a level 2? Dude's putting PB on everything and isn't allowed to toast bread in a pan.
Questions need to be asked... Do you think Daniel is someone at Epi's nephew? XD
@@sudburymagic probably!
i mean, his food can be super quirky but i think his cooking skills and ability to make minimal shortcuts in a recipe are definitely over level 1
Rawlston's sandwich is the one that I'd be most likely to order from a restaurant menu. Onika's is the one that I'd be most likely to make for myself, at home. Daniel's is one that I'd be most interested in trying if I saw someone else order it at a sandwich shop.
All three look like they'd taste really good.
They should add a level. The Daniel level. He's in a class of his own.
Fr ☠️
Daniel always finds a way to put something sweet in his dishes 😂
What to say
Well normally that’s smart because it balances out the salty but he just be putting anything into sandwiches lol
He’s got TWO sources of sweetness in that thing: the cranberry sauce and the sugared up sweet potato spread. The man is out of control.
I felt rawlston in my soul when he goes "I'll try it" with the whole peanut butter debacle
It's good to try new things... even if it initially sounds a bit odd (like peanut butter & turkey) ... those collards though... I just might need a bowl of those... wonder how long they'd keep.
If that peanut butter was nice and spicy, it’d be like satay sauce. I’d definitely try it.
Frank is still growing his turkey 🦃
My fav UA-cam video right now no lie ua-cam.com/video/XXU7zhDou0I/v-deo.html
small issue. When listening with head phones, you can't hear their voices on the right channel, only on the left. or vice-versa. but only one out of the two.
Yeah man,I thought my earphones were not working
Their voices on one channel, the music on the other.
@@krisandres2011 its a bit irritating tbh.
Me too
Same on my laptop's speakers. It's a bit unsettling.
Daniel sometimes makes me want to question my own life choices with some of things he does.
ua-cam.com/video/JpP3Qnqe6oQ/v-deo.html
On the contrary, looking at Daniel’s choices makes me proud of a lot of my life choices
Rawlston's sandwich might be the first level 3 meal that actually looks like something I could and would make.
I'm surprised he didn't bake his own bread
I think they should taste each other’s food. I really want to know what someone else would think about the peanut butter sweet potato pie turkey sandwich
Yes! I’ve always felt the same way!
Yes, agreed!!!!
absolutely!
You owe it yourself to try it. PB and turkey/turkey bacon is delicious together
Those are in the yet to be released blooper reel.
I love how Daniel stays true to his taste. Everybody's shitting on his choices but it's really all kinda interesting and might work.
Pretty sure he just grabs an ingredient from the pantry at random and says "I'm gonna pretend this is my special ingredient".
Pretty sure no thought goes into it, just trying to manufacture eccentricity.
@@BraxtonHoward especialy when he says, the sweet potato paste add something a bit of sweetness a bit of spice...bro, wtf are you talking about ?
Aseap, definitely, also he’s such a good sport!
“…everybody shitting on his choices….” If anyone tries his quirky combinations and comes back to say what they didn’t like, I haven’t seen it. People discount without even trying it. A bunch of sticks in the mud, in my opinion.
Wish I could be invited to Rawlston’s Thanksgiving dinner. 👀
I definitely rather go to his or Onika's than Daniel's lol
@@khavosplays8920 Daniel is the guys who's tray is the only one that's still full at the family events
The pro chefs sandwich looks like something shaggy n scooby would eat. Delicious!
They do love their multi decker layered sandwiches.
Truth....lol
So does Daniels lol
Scooby snack for sure
Or that gerbil/hamster from lilo and stitch
Ofc Rawlstons a level 3 chef, he's the only one close to using a moist maker; as used by Chef Gellar.
Dude-Monica made an amazing Thanksgiving Turkey sandwich 🤔😂
@@passiveagressive4983 Yea every time I see a Turkey sandwich I think of her thanksgiving turkey sandwich lol

I am with you and it sounds good.
And Daniel's peanut butter?
@@108asf awww hell no
Daniel just tryna live his best life, everyone just tryna bring him down. Keep being you, Daniel!
Daniel's dishes have a certain chaotic energy to them, and I'm 100% here for it.
Minus the cranberry sauce I'd give it a try!
I think he brings great energy and something to talk about to all his recipes he does, for that I ❤️ him.
Finally, Rawlston in a 4 Levels video. Hope to see Chefs Esther and Lish do this series as well.
Agreed!!!
producer: "please make a turkey sandwich."
Daniel: makes a pb and j with some turkey :P
Notice how Rose didn’t say anything about Daniels toppings LOL. Level one and level three I will definitely eat either of those
She didn't talk about anyone's add-ons or assemblies
“…Rose didn’t say anything….” She rarely does for any of them. She explains how things work, and doesn’t critique other than broad statements about things being delicious or spicy.
Expects amateur to be "toss some deli turkey on white bread with lettuce, tomato, and mayo", sees something you'd find in a gourmet cafe. My girl, that is at least level 1.5. And honestly looks delicious.
As for the peanut butter, Shake Shack once had a peanut butter bacon cheeseburger so Daniel's sandwich isn't TOO weird.
You rarely see dark meat used in turkey sandwiches, Rawlston's got a good idea there.
"Nobody's putting peanut better on their turkey sandwich. That's not not true
...
Why? 😶"
I put peanut butter on my turkey burgers and it tastes really good.
@@I_am_coocoo_for_kupo_nuts I really want to try this now!
@@laurenhodges6411 i hope you enjoy.
I like how the level three chef kinda admits that it's weird but is still down to try it and also points out some similar recipe as a reference. Dude is brave enough to try it with an open mind how many of us could say the same
Glad to see that the feedback of editing the video in a way that the chefs are chatting with each other had gotten to them, and I like this style more
Definitely, the goal is to make it feel fun and interactive!
I have two wishes for these:
1) Recipe, please?
2) For the love of everything, can't we have some cross-chef taste testing?
I love Rawlston, he has such a laid back personality and his inflections remind me of home
I know that I say this about practically all the new cooks who appear on the show, but I really like Rawlston & I hope we get to see more of him.
Everyone with headphones:
Left ear cooking
Right ear party
Yeah I thought my right headphone was failing, but only when they talked lol!
describing making confit or stock as a tea is genius in itself. I hope we see more of Rawlston in the future!!!!
I like Rawlston. You can tell he knows what he's doing, and also he didn't put freaking peanut butter in his turkey sandwich.
It's the first time I see the level 3 result to be bigger than the other two ! 😄
Daniel really dipped into level 0 territory with this one.
Hahahahahaha, aw
In situations like this, my friend would solemnly say "it's a good you're pretty" 😂
For me Daniel is the Kardashian of the channel. Will do anything for attention.
I Love how they started to go back and forth what the chefs like and don't.
It's like roasting each other back and forth.
The audio is off. The voices are only in my left ear.
Then something's wrong with your equipment.
Same here
No voices here
@@zensohvh if you don't have that its problem with your equipment because it is video issue
Yep only in the left ear
Onikas sandwich is the one I want! But the Ralston looks interesting too.
Onika and Rawlston's sandwiches look really delicious. Since, cinnamon is pretty meh for me, I admit I have some trouble with Daniel's sandwich.
Really like this level 3 guy. Please bring him back!
You know what!? I'm gonna try to make the Rawlston for my family (mom and sister) this year! Let's see what happens!
Edit: I made the Rawlston to the best of my ability and it was pretty good! Tastes like fried turkey and the pickled greens are great on the sandwich (but not by themselves).
There's a "Goddamnit, Daniel, " moment in every video he's in, I swear, lol.
Chef Rawlston's turkey prep looks amazing, but I'm a little "eh" about pickled collards.
Onika, as always, adorable.
And now....
Emily! Lorenzo! Chef Frank! Rosemary! Tuna noodle casserole!
I read your "Goddamnit, Daniel" in Saul's voice. 😂😂😂
I actually am really intrigued with Daniel's sandwich. He might be a homecook but the peanut butter and sweet potato mash really spins it to an interesting flavour place. Untraditional but possibly big pay-off.
This might be the first time the level 1 dish is the one I want the most.
Level one: Lunch break turkey sandwich, but fancier and probably tasty af.
Level two: Day after Thanksgiving turkey sandwich, made for people who love sweet and savory sandwiches.
Level three: Mississippi delicatessan, boujee af, $15 sandwich only, no chips or drink. Those cost extra. Still tasty af though.
Not gonna lie, pickled collards on turkey sandwich sounds pretty good right now.
@@marcgoodman4862 agreed! With some spicy honey mustard!
I worked with someone who would eat peanutbutter jelly butter and bacon. I feel like daniels is not far off from what I have seen
Pickled collard greens are actually really GOOD! I am in love with Chef Rawlston's smooth calm voice!
I was eating a turkey sandwich with pickled spicy green mangoes while watching this, so I have no room to comment on peanut butter or pickled collards.
Also all of those sammiches look friggin
TASTY
Hahahaha, I appreciate your honesty
Onika - Something you'd make high or drunk and really want to make the turkey sandwich slap
Daniel - ?!?!?!?
Rawlston - Something you'd see at a really really nice restaurant for thanksgiving where everything is made of old wood and there is dim lighting
i love rawlston he sounds so wholesome
Someone try Daniel's sandwich and let me know how it tastes LOL.
Onika is definitely Level 2! I would try her sandwich.
I haven’t had Daniel’s exact sandwich, but I like one that is very close: PB, turkey, cranberry sauce, lettuce, and tomato. It’s very, very good.
@@EastSider48215 I will have to give it a try! Thank you.
Me: Well I think Daniel's weirdest moment was the blueberry sandwich
Daniel: Hold my peanut butter
Daniel has returned to his roots, putting jam in a savory bread dish XD
“….jam in a savory bread dish….” Sweet relishes are very common with meats. Cranberry sauce is made lots of ways, but in the US, I would say most people have a sweetened version. We have put it on turkey sandwiches for over sixty years at my house.
SMH!! Epicurious ya'll need to schedule a meeting ASAP. Onika is Level 2 material.
I'm sorry but French hate her now for desecrating the holly croissant
@@brunocilio223 I doubt all of the French hate her 🤦🏼♀️ I doubt all French people are so up in their feelings they would “hate” someone over bread. & if they do, they can hate all of America because croissant sandwiches are a thing over here & Yes, they are delicious.
@@soy.ingrid I hate you now.
Pickled collard greens are just greens with more vinegar than usual. Somebody's aunt has made them like that before and it's all good.
Since this is a more adversarial show, I would love to see them meet up at the end and taste each other's food, like the Pro-Am show.
The transition from 7:41 to 7:50 is soo funny. The editor is genius.😂😂
Also btw I am the original poster of this comment
Man, Daniel went full on Scooby and Shaggy with this one.
She is absolutely hilarious, bring her back more please 🤣
Rawlston's sandwich is perfection!
Yes it is!
Daniel's meals are often something you would do if high and hungry
that's why we love him
I love how unorthodox Daniel’s recipes are! It’s great for people that like trying new things :)
I like how they bantering on Daniel. "I think I lost some people"
.. noooo
I think all the chefs should hang out at the end and try each others dishes.
Daniel talking about adding a bit of sugar and sweetness to his sandwich with his sweet potato sauce as if he didn't slather the other side with even more sugar in the form of peanut butter and jam
Cranberry sauce isnt exactly jam, my guy, and it's a very common accompaniment for turkey in the states - during Thanksgiving if nothing else. Peanut butter is also just ground roasted peanuts.
Daniel's sandwich was basically a Thanksgiving leftovers special that he added peanut butter to. Spiced candied "yams" (which are actually sweet potatoes, it's a whole thing), turkey, and cranberry sauce are three of the most traditional traditional dishes for the holiday. He turned his sweet potatoes into a paste to make it easier to put in a sandwich I assume, but he went seriously light on the sugar with em considering the apparent Thanksgiving theme. Like, usually people straight up carmelized brown sugar for the glaze and then add mini marshmallows on top and toast them.
@@emeralddarkness I am aware. As an international platform, I'm trying to use words that would be easily translated and simply correlated by all speakers.
Common peanut butters have an incredible amount of sugar added, around from to over 50% of the ingredients iirc, and the cooking process of cranberries require sweeteners as well and natural pectin is utilized to help assist in the cooking process. Jam is an appropriate comparison to share what the contents are. Daniel also compared it to a PB and J in said video. I am not arguing against the recipe.
What is a common amount of sugar varies from house to house. In my household, which is obviously different from yours, the sauces are considered a large contribution towards the sugar content. This is a recipe made by someone else; the purpose of my comment is to share my amusement over the irony over ingredient compositions in contrast to what Mr. Daniel is saying.
This is not intended as an affront to your traditions.
@@markielpilos lol you're good, like you I was assuming international? I tend to make my own cranberry sauce, and I have made my own peanut butter. It really depends on what you buy or make. Sorry for assuming?
I love the way they talk to each other. "WHAT KIND OF BOUJEE STUFF IS THAT?!!"
y’all need to learn not to let daniel near a sandwich
he done put blackberries into a grilled cheese and now a peanut butter thanksgiving turkey sandwich good lord have mercy
“….lord have mercy….” But have you tried it? Didn’t think so. An opinion about a simple food combination without even trying it is pretty empty.
Am I the only one who actually listens to Rose (the scientist) explain the entire process??😅
Nope. I’m here for the science too.
“Pepper Jack is the thug of cheese!” Ha ha ha!! I love her!
Daniel gives me "Max from Wizards of Waverly Place" energy with his sandwiches 😂💀 Remember the Max? Lmao
All of these are great ideas! Well done Epicurious! This episode is really good!! First time I have seen this chef Rawlston, there is something in his voice which makes me want to listen it for a looong time ;)
So now I know what to do with part of my open jar of peanut butter. I'll just replace the sweet potato puree with some camembert cheese I have to use by the weekend. Thanks Daniel!
I'm so early, Frank is still raising his turkeys!
I could go for a good "Thanksgiving" turkey sandwich with a layer of fried stuffing/dressing and some cranberry sauce.
Tha actually sounds really good
“Nobody’s putting peanut butter on they sandwich.” 😂😂 I love her
i always put fresh collard leaves in my sandwitches and i thought i was an idiot for doing that. turns out im some kind of chef
I really enjoyed the LV 3 chefs personality. He seems chill but you can tell he knows his stuff. Also that sandwich looked bomb, not gonna lie.
The only reason Daniel lost me on peanut butter is because I'm allergic to it. Othewise I like how he always makes some seemingly weird food choices that are in fact quite tasty when you try them xD
All three sandwiches look good.
My fav thing to watch on youtube❤ keep these coming, we love them🥰
I've watch a bunch of these and Level 1 looks like something I would make. Level 3 looks like something I would find in a restaurant. Level 2 always looks like some weird alien food.
Thank you!! More black professional chefs, please!
This guy is the coolest!
I actually want to try the sandwich Daniel made. If you like all of the ingredients he used, of course you will like it.
Onika: Keeps her recipe pretty simple.
“Level 3 chef does something fancy”. Onika…”You have committed a mortal sin”
When does Onika graduate to Level 2? All her food always looks amazing.
When a level 2 becomes a level 1
Onika’s earrings are pure Onika😂😂😂😂
loving the vibes from level one chef. incredibly enjoyable 2 watch em cook.
Rawlston’s looks amazing. My kinda sandwich.
It was incredible!
I was with the cranberry and the sweet potato...then the peanut butter hit 😂. Now he's the peanut butter and turkey guy. Emily has been vindicated 😂
Thank this channel for showing the diversity of chefs out there! We can all do it!!
i would DEVOUR that lvl 3 sandwich rn, idk about 2 though
