I think they literally took some random sandwich from a city in each state and said “everybody in this state sacrifices their family for this sandwich”
Yes... the sandwich they claim for Colorado, I’ve never heard of. And it does not sound like something I’d want to eat more than once (if that)... and even then, only a fraction of the sandwich they showed. And considering Colorado is consistently one of the healthiest states, I do not see this being something that most people here eat.

I think you got that pretty correct. I expected to see the Italian Beef, the Pork Tenderloin, the Hot Brown and the Philly Cheesesteak, and I wasn't disappointed.
They picked the most unique sandwich not the faverote TBH idk what our faverote is .... hahaha I’d have to say smothered burrito but that’s not a sandwich
Georgia, I've never heard anyone ordering a pimento cheese sandwich ever, except my grandfather and he never ordered them he just made them himself, and he's been gone since the 90's. I'ma gonna put an asterisk by this claim. I love a good Vietnamese Banh Mi myself. Some of these states really have to step their game up. But still, I don't think I've ever wanted to do a 50 state road trip more in my life. Sincerely, a Canadian.
I'm pretty sure us Marylanders would take a crab cake sandwich over a soft crab sandwich any day of the week. Also, for NC, how do you forget to mention that you have to have coleslaw on top of that pulled pork bbq sandwich?!?
i think the difference is that a crabcake can be eaten as a sandwich or on its own. a softshell crab, MOST people dont just eat on their own. Some might, but you almost always see served as a sandwich
It’s just ..... It bothers me that they picked the most unique sandwich from each state not our favorite!!! Most Coloradans don’t eat the that PB and J Frankenstein some of my friends hadn’t even heard of it!!!
And while I'm perfectly happy to see Tillamook get repped, grilled cheese is NOT our favorite thing here. That's gotta be a pork meatball bánh mì sandwich. Shit is DANK.
North Carolina guy here! I occasionally eat a bbq sandwich, but not very often. I prefer sandwiches like you'd get in NYC delis, especially Italian meats, or a really good bagel with lox and cream cheese! Thanks to our "northern neighbors" for bringing your sandwich culture to our "neck of the woods!"
The Bánh Mi can also be chicken, not just pork. They also forgot to say that it always has chicken liver paté on it and the sandwich is made with a Vietnamese baguette made partially with rice flour making it lighter and crispier than the French variety. As a native to the PNW I can attest that you can get these almost anywhere now that Pho restaurants are a local staple. If you ever get the chance, try one - freaking bomb!
Luke Walstead I would say it “always” has chicken liver pate on it. When I’ve gotten mine it’s never had it. So it probably depends on each store/restaurant you get them from.
@@ambie3300 Yeah it depends on the type of Banh Mi you get. The traditional/specialty one with 3 Vietnamese deli meats comes with pate, while the one with grilled meats sometimes doesn't. But if you get the specialty and there's no pate, damn you're missing out.
As a New Mexican, they got ours right. Green chile cheeseburgers are amazing. I don't know if they still do this, but you even used to be able to order green chile on your McDonalds cheeseburgers.
I would say: California - Turkey Avocado NY - BaconEggandCheese Georgia - Fried Chicken Maryland - Pit Beef/Jumbo Lump Crab cake I don’t know about the other ones.
Someone should tell them that the "LL's" are pronounced like the "Ll" in Llama. Yup. "Tiy-a-mOOOk". "BTW, don't forget the 15% tourism sales tax, please."
My ears are unhappy, but they got the sandwich pretty spot on. Every place I’ve gotten a grilled cheese or burger in oregon tends to advertise when they have tillamook cheese.
I'm from New Orleans and they had alot of interesting sandwiches here but I still think the PoBoy and Banh Mi are my favorites. Also the Maine lobster rolls and Cubano are probably runners up.
I'm from New England but a New Orleans Po' Boy from Parkway Bakery was still one of the best meals of my life. Also agree that Bahn Mi is a top sandwich, although its popular anywhere with Vietnamese immigrants, not just Washington. Lobster rolls taste great but they're super overrated, because lobster is so good already, putting it on a roll and calling it a new dish is cheating and adds nothing to the experience. Just eat a damn lobster and be happy.
@@iankrasnow5383 Im assuming you've never had Highroller lobster rolls than. They jazz it up with unique mayos like red pepper mayo, lime, pineapple, jalapeno, etc.
@@anthonymachiavelli9936 I haven't. They look good, but $27 for 4 oz of meat is insane. In August in CT, I can get a fresh live 1 lb. lobster for $7, and I even get the good bits like the "tamale" that they usually throw out. I can even make my own roll. It's not that hard.
@@stevenstevenson3705 Pastrami at Katz deli is the hands-down best by a mile but the bodega Bacon egg and cheese is more iconic with the average NYC citizen. Cant beat it for the price
Same but wasn't expecting lox. I literally know not one person in all of new York who gets that.. people line up for chicken and cheese or Philip cheese. Bagoneggen cheese
I'm from Missouri and have never seen a burnt end sandwich on any menu. Burnt ends are popular but not on sandwiches. Some places have pork steak sandwiches or even strip steak sandwiches, those are unique but not popular. I'd have to say pulled pork would be most popular but I dont think that's a uniquely Missouri sandwich. I dont think any state eats as much pork steaks as Missouri tho so I'd have to go with that eventhough most people just serve it with bread on the side rather than a sandwich.
I’m a New Yorker, and I gotta say you can never go wrong with a bagel and cream cheese. I wouldn’t add as much as they did in the video but lox is pretty good on it
"TillaMOOK" Somebody should have made her travel to Oregon so that she could get the pronunciation down. It would be worth it since Tillamook cheese is wonderful.
In 2018 I´ve cycled through Oregon and also passed by Tillamook, the cheddar is the best cheese I´ve had in the whole USA. I can also remember having had a cheese toast from a yellow foodtruck in downtown Portland.
I'm a Vietnamese here trying to figure out which US state is tryna steal our banh mi and make it their own because I saw it in the thumbnail It's Washington
There is actually a great percentage of Vietnamese population here in Washington. Not only Do Vietnamese restaurants here make and sell banh mi sandwiches but their grocery stores as well. 😊
@@Loredo512 American Bánh mì are missing alot of important factor that make bánh mì great in Vn. Idk why they do that, probably adjust the taste so that Americans can enjoy it. But yeah they are still over-price.
I'm from washington and i was surprised it was this sandwich. I've never heard of or seen one of these in my entire life, or noticed a large amount of vietnamese people in this state.
I've lived in four different states and for each one, the local sandwich you picked is a reasonable choice. Maybe not what I would call the #1 sandwich, but authentic enough and something people in that state do eat. So I'm inclined to think the other choices are credible. Besides, who WOULDN'T pick In n Out for California?
Personally, I'm not really upset that I've never heard of my state's sandwich. Heck, it gives me something new to try someday. Thanks, Food Insider. :) (I'm from Ohio.)
As a guy who’s lived in Mississippi for about 10 years I can say a catfish po’boy is one of my favorite things I’ve learned about since I got down here.
And that’s on fried bologna sandwiches, I’m not above a slab of processed meat but I ate so many of these growing in poverty I can’t even look at one lol. I’m grateful to have have the food most days but now... I’ll take a pbnj any day.
Hotdog is a type of sub sandwhich. Kinda like subway or even an italian beef. You don't slice the bread all the way through. If you slice the bread all the way through, then it is just a sandwhich. Some of these are what I call "super sandwhich" because the bread completely incloses the entire thing. This is like a hot pocket.
@@bridgetconnaghan9006 oh they are different but they all fall under the same parent group of sandwich. Basically my argument is built on the whole idea of calling a sub sandwich a sandwich. Like if you take a hotdog, turn it sideways and put different stuff in it then it is now a sub sandwich.
The Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey are 💯 % true!!! because 1.I’m from South Jersey and 2.I’m always in Philly 3.I go to New York every once in awhile. I don’t know about the other states. And I was eating fried pork roll sandwich with cheese while watching this video no lie lmao! Yum yum 🤤 ps. Pork roll taste just as good without the egg too!
Was very interested to see what they picked for NY. While I probably would have gone with a chopped cheese or a pastrami sandwich (or any hot sandwich from an NY jewish deli), there's nothing like a good NY bagel with some lox
They had Green Chile Cheeseburgers at B.Goode's when I lived in Maine. They were alright. I've had better burgers. Mostly ones from Hawaii like the Aloha Burger, or the Hukilau Burger, and South Carolina with a BBQ platter burger. Burger, brisket, pulled pork, and bacon, with cheese, fried red onions, and bbq sauce.
Hatch green chilis are fuckin banger. There is a local Tex-mex powerhouse here in Texas (Chuy’s) that has an entire 2 weeks dedicated to the crop. They make 5-6 new items every year with Hatch green Chile as the main ingredient. Thank you NM

The Bánh Mi can also be chicken, not just pork. I'm from New England but a New Orleans Po' Boy from Parkway Bakery was still one of the best meals of my life. Also agree that Bahn Mi is a top sandwich, although its popular anywhere with Vietnamese immigrants, not just Washington. Hey. Don’t be hating on our coney dogs.
Hotdog is a type of sub sandwhich. Kinda like subway or even an italian beef. You don't slice the bread all the way through. If you slice the bread all the way through, then it is just a sandwhich.
