You know, if a 10 year old who left home last week showed up with literal gods and kicked my ass at the thing I had been training at for decades, I'd get myself a little something too
Yo if I got rocked 200 times in a row by a ten year old who started their journey a week ago in a field I had spent my whole life becoming the best at...there wouldn't be enough plushes in the world to soak up my tears
The DP Starly you encounter is actually the strongest Pokemon ever. Sure, it can be defeated pretty easily if you try, but if you lose using that method, you black out permanently. You are dead, and the Starly killed you.
May was in a panic, the Chimchar she had placed her hopes in had fainted due to the vicious attacks of the wild Pokemon attacking her, with her protector out of the way, the Starley then took it's chance, without pokemons to defend them, it cornered the humans, preventing them from running away, it always hated them, they always seemed to regard pokemon as little more than battle beats to play in their little bloodsport, and so it did the unthinkable, he attacked them incessantly, when it was done, the humans were little more than bloody remains left for nature to reclaim.
I think it’s because although we hear one ‘word’ sound they’re made up of the individual letters and I think at each letter it tries to access the sound but can’t, not sure why because the letters being used in other words works, maybe it was initially meant to have its own unique noise for celebrity that didn’t happen and the devs forgot to reapply the sounds to Celebis letter assignment 🤷♂️
For fact number 1: This is probably a default setting. Talking to the guard loads in the safari zone (too costly to have it loaded at all times). They probably needed to have a default pokemon you could encounter (plus this makes the game not crash if you were to accidentally get there via an exploit). It's more likely a fail safe rather than an anti cheating measure
That does not explain why the safari zone is half loaded with tall grass and rattata instead of being just empty space like it would he if you didn't enter the entrance room.
@@andreaaurigemma2782 because when you exit the building into the Safari Zone, it is programmed to load whichever version of the Safari Zone you selected. Since you didn't make a selection, it defaults to the option at array element 0 in the collection of different versions. EDIT: According to another user, Safari Zone encounter data is stored and pulled from a different location than most maps, since there are multiple versions of the Safari Zone to choose from. The Rattata data is just the default for the map, and since you entered in an unintended way, the game doesn't replace it.
@@andreaaurigemma2782 probably because the area preloads when you're inside the building, but I'm assuming it loads encounter when you pay for the ticket or something.
@@Laezar1 that seems like a waste of resources. Why would they have it preload every time you enter the building instead of just load it once when you pay the ticket?
As a kid, I actually beat the Elite Four 100 times in Ruby because I heard a rumor that you could unlock Deoxys. It never actually happened but I'm glad that it actually did something in another game lol.
I did this too but in Emerald! The rumor was that every time you beat the E4 the fuel level of the rocket would go up and eventually you'd go to the moon and catch either Jirachi or Deoxys
I heard this rumor too but my version had me waiting for 100 rockets, which took off every WEEK, that's right, I waited for like 2 years for it to be false!
It could feel like it could mean that The Bard is actually a time traveler and knows that name and its scared of that name which means he could barely not even "sing" Celebis name, he just wants to go home
Oh i actually REALLY wanna write this now. I absolutely ADORED the weird creepypastas of older gens, and this is the perfect idea that i havent seen done before, and i think itd be really cool to take a crack at a genre i used to be obsessed with!
Fun fact, if losing that first DP battle didn't crash the game and warped you at your house like losing a battle normally would, it would be by far the fastest speedruning route. Because by going into your house you would trigger the mom and player walking down to the table cutscene that normally plays starting from the top of the room after a transition, except here you would play it from the door, so by walking down your character would get moved... into the void, where typical tweaking trick subglitches can be used to get anywhere or HoF warp. It's really funny how close this was to being by far the most useful glitch in gen 4 speedrunning
It would've taken longer to actually get koed and its extremely unreliable seeing as how it took the dude hours to actually knock yourself out even with min hp and min defensive chimchar
The current wr is a 2 hour 38 minute run. If the oob mapped out similar to the remakes this would potentially shave hours off of that time. It doesn’t matter if this battle consistently took an hour, it would still cut the run in half
It could be fun to watch in a TAS but is not suitable for a whole run like in any possible mean, first of all you need and oddly specific build on your starter and it is a bad build having low ivs in hp and defense, remember that outside that first encounter you gonna be stuck with a sh1ty pokemon that is supposed to be your main pokemon in the whole run so you are messing with the 99% of the run just to save a few seconds in the very beginning of the game.
I've actually got all of Loreli's Plushes. This is because in my spare time (Eg bus trips) I would train all sorts of pokemon to lv 100. I have multiple boxes of them now. I switched up my training spot to avoid boredom, but before I settled on RSE secret bases, the FRLG elite 4 was my main place. I visited the house too, its a nice detail.
Same, I did it for all grey stickers on the Trainer Card. Never knew about the plush detail! (All grey stickers requirements are: 200 Elite 4 wins, 300 eggs hatched, and 100 link battles won)
In defense of the finale's black screen freeze, the game *does* say you blacked out. The Chimchar lost to the void is probably from the fever dream you fell into after doing this for hours on end.
Yes the game does say blacked out, however what they meant was whited out as is used in later generations, as I doubt they meant that the trainer fell asleep due to being drunk.
@@Izzythemaker127 Aren't white out and black out synonyms of each other? I need a bit more than a single sentence to understand it better, if you don't mind. 😅
For the Celedon City encounter tag, my guess as to the reason the Pokemon's met location is being rewritten is because the Celedon Department Store doesn't simply have its own location tag, it's overwriting the same tag for both Celedon City and the store. This is likely to overcome some sort of limitation within either the GBA hardware, the game's ROM storage structure, or to prevent a glitch that was encountered during development.
Another thing is that when pokemon battle in the same place as their met location tag, their friendship raises slightly more than normal. Since you can't battle in the department store, it's likely changed to just Celadon City to make it possible. It's not a huge deal to make that change though so I'm not sure
I imagine they wanted the header to say dept store but didn't think it made sense to make a whole new location for it so they went with having the location celadon city be temporarily overwritten by the dept store. Kinda odd though, I think I ran into this as a kid because getting the eevee and then going straight to the department store to get a evolutionary stone to evolve it is a pretty natural thing to do but if you check eevee or it's evolution's summary screen it'll say dept store.
@@kyotopiaxblueeneration 2 doesn't make you boost your friendship just by battling (except gyms leaders and elite 4/probably Red). It's the level up itself that boosts the friendship. If you fight a wild enemy/random trainer but you don't level up, the friendship stays the same as it was before the fight.
Anyone can get the bard in their game regardless of trainer ID. The trainer ID just determines which one you start with. Every time you mix records with somebody, you will swap the old man that appears in your game with them. This is also how you get the song to change, as each player can only update 1 word, so you need to chain it along to multiple people to get a fully original song.
@@AztecCroc A single region-exclusive way, without cheating. Celebi was distributed in gen 3 in 4 ways -- Journey Across America event (US), the Mitsurin event in Japan, the Pokepark event in Taiwan... and the Agate Shrine celebi from the bonus disc for Colosseum (JP) -- the US version's bonus disk had Wishmaker Jirachi instead.
Something that's really cool about Amnesia Psyduck is that it's actually referenced in Stadium 2 as a rental! If you select Psyduck as a rental in Prime Cup and it's Round 2, one of its moves become Amnesia instead. The same thing happens to Pikachu, where it replaces a move with Surf. Neither of these are particularly useful, but it's a cool nod nonetheless.
You can get one of the other Mauville old guys to appear in your game by mixing records with another player, so if you had Giddy but you mix records with your friend who had the Bard, that specific Bard with your friend’s song will appear in your game. If you have Ruby or Sapphire and mix records with an Emerald player who had the Bard, and his song features a word that is exclusive to Emerald (such as some battle frontier terms I think), it will appear as ??? in your Ruby/Sapphire game and I think like Celebi it’s creepily silent
Something I find really interesting is that you can technically win the Mega Evolution tutorial in X/Y without Mega Evolving, even though the game resets the battle after the first turn if you don’t. You need to use Bone Rush and land all 5 hits with at least 2 (possibly 3) crits. Sadly the game just resets the battle like normal again
There’s another sprite oddity later in the series. In BW2, Samurott received a brand new back sprite and I don’t know if any other Pokémon got a new sprite between BW and BW2
The Amnesia Psyduck is simpler than what was described. Any prize Pokémon from Stadium will hold either a Normal Box or a Gorgeous Box, depending on if it was obtained on Round 1 or 2. Therefore, it's not just Psyduck, but the starters, the Hitmons, Eevee and the fossils. The normal box can be opened to reveal a Silver Trophy, while the gorgeous box will be a Gold Trophy. Psyduck can, therefore, net you either box, because it can be gotten in round 1, if you register every Pokémon then.
@@TheEmeraldWeirdohis obscure facts are garbage too.. he talks about Pokemon stadium but actually that is in Pokemon stadium 2.. Pokemon stadium was gen 1 and Pokemon can't hold items in gen 1... He also claims the Rattata safari zone is an anticheat measure when it surely was not
@tgyo99 Actually, Pokemon from gen1 games have special held items when transferred to gen2. It was one of that gen's quirks. Transferring the Pikachu from Yellow version guaranteed a Light Ball, and there were some items that were only obtainable via transferring gen 1 pokemon to gen 2.
@@MartaBunnyyeah my first thought was... I had a golduck in platinum with amnesia??? Like dang didn't realize pokemon platinum was secretly from 2023 djdnjdjdnd
That Starly "glitch" is something new to me, and now makes me even more sure that Pokémon aggressive natures from Hisui never fully left them, even after it became known as Sinnoh and modernization came along. It killed the Chimchar, and then the Trainer.
With regards to the Safari Zone Rattatas, I have some experience hacking HGSS and can shed some light on it! The tables where the safari zone encounters are stored, due to the complexity of the HGSS safari zone, are pulled from a completely separate area from other encounter data. The Rattatas are there as placeholders for the map's encounter data, to be temporarily overwritten, when the player enters the Safari Zone, with the intended encounters. Entering in an unintended way means that the placeholder encounter table isn't replaced. The Bug Catching Contest works the same way! Edit: I'm definitely not the first person to comment this lol. But, yes, I can confirm for everyone that hypothesis is correct!
So you're saying that the encounter table for my fridge is by default nothing that I want to eat, but by triggering an event (going to the store to buy what I want to eat) the encounter table overwrites the current table?!
@@jenshast1488 Yes !! Exactly! And in the case of the bug catching contest, if you have the national dex, depending on whether it is Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday, the contents of your fridge will be one of three different but equally delicious sets of encounters! This isn't the only sprite-related oddity concerning Teddiursa! And it happened quite recently! Since BDSP, as we know, the pixilated menu sprites are gone and got replaced by new icon sprites, reminiscing of older sprites, just polished. And every Pokémon reappearing in Scarlet and Violet has kept its new icon sprite from BDSP. Except for... Teddiursa (as far as I'm aware of, at least). What an interesting little bear!
I got the Cynthia piano thing. Platinum is my most-played game in the entire series, so I had plenty of cash to burn on the expensive furniture. As for the Lorelei plushy thing, while actually seeing them there is an extremely rare sight, that fact was actually mentioned in the official Nintendo Power guidebook for FRLG. The Sinnoh games have a similar gimmick where beating the Elite 4 a certain number of times will raise the levels of Barry's pokemon when you refight him in the Battle Area.
Teeechnically there's another way to get The Bard without the right ID. If you use the Record Mix room with your friends using a link cable, you'll get their Mysterious Man.
Cynthia and her melody on the piano is one of the most grindy accomplishments I have completed in any Pokemon game. It is a cool Easter Egg - even more so due to the efforts you need to undertake to get some of the furniture. The other facts were pretty out there as always, I am constantly amazed by the weird and frankly time consuming things Pokemon games have to offer.
My theory is that they just overwrite Celadon City's location name so it changes in the area text box, instead of being it's own unique location. So it wouldn't happen, probably, unless it also skips the check and the whole city is called Celadon Dep. From then onwards.
Here's some facts about Pokémon locations compared to the real places that inspired them: The South Province of Paldea is inspired by Murcia and Doñana National Park. The lagoons of Campotéjar, in particular, used to be a wastewater treatment plant, which explains the typing of Paldean Wooper. Doñana constitutes the only tropical wetland in continental Europe, being a migration stop for flamingos and various warm climate animals, thus this is why the dominant Pokémon in the area is Flamigo. Kalos's Reflection Cave is based off the Armorican Mastiff in Brittany. The massif is composed of metamorphic and magmatic rocks that were metamorphosed and/or deformed during the Hercynian or Variscan orogeny and the earlier Cadomian orogeny. The competent old rocks of the Armorican Massif have been eroded to a plateau like peneplain. The concept is also be based on the legends of the Britons called Miroirs aux fées (fairies mirrors). Fairy mirrors are usually caves with bright quartz veins or lakes where they are said to live fairies and like to see themselves in them like a mirror.
I don't know if it's obscure, but I learned recently that in DPP Arceus *actually has a ???-form* with a green and purple sprite when you check your team It's only accessible by hacking and doesn't seem to be usable in battle (it reverts to his normal sprite) but I still find it interesting that the devs put it into the game
Yeah, it exists, probably to avoid crashes if hacked into the game in some way. ??? Type was so hard to program correctly that they just got rid of it in subsequent generations.
@@phantomkrieger2744 You could, I guess, but - even though both are cheating - I feel that getting into a restricted area is not on the same level as hacking a shiny.
Personally, I think HoopsandHiphop's done some of the best videos, but Phin is definitely up there, and was the first Poketuber I watched back in the day
My favorite battle to lose is again Hop in SwSh. You can only lose that first battle if you stall against Wooloo. His chosen Starter can use stuff like Growl or Leer without running out of PP and so will never KO your starter but Wooloo _only_ knows Tackle
I've been using my Leaf Green's Elite Four to level up the Pokemon I breed on Emerald for years. Just checked Lorelei's house, and sure enough, plushies are everywhere! Even a Lapras!
In Crystal (and I assume G/S), when you bring the medicine to Amphy at the top of the lighthouse, if you interact with Amphy it lights up the room. Pretty cool
The gold trophy thing being able to be transferred is really fascinating to me. Stadium 2 came out over a year after gold and silver so it means they must’ve planned and put the code in for the trophy ages before it could’ve been used. The days before being able to patch games 😅
You get the Boxes for the trophies in Stadium 1, not 2. And since the "location" where you got the Pokemon is determined by its "catch rate" (which varied by game, in gen 1), all they needed to do was to set Gold/Silver so that the held item for a Pokemon gotten in Stadium Round 1 was Normal Box and Stadium Round 2 was Gorgeous Box. This is what they've done so that Pikachu traded from RB would hold a Berry, while those from Yellow would hold the Light Ball.
Just a slight mistake: Fire Red and Leaf Green came out before Emerald. The remakes debuted in Jan. 2004, while Emerald came out in Sept. that same year. EDIT: Ooh! And yes! I did get the Cynthia piano in platinum!
The last one makes a lot of sense, actually, it's just a very slight oversight in the code causing a segfault; there's probably an extremely small chance of it warping you to any valid location, and an extremely large chance of it just crashing the game. (And it'll always be a crash outside of very specific circumstances, probably.) Mechanically, assuming the game is written in C or C++, then the variable indicating which "safe zone" to warp you to on death is probably left uninitialised, which means that it contains either "0" or whatever value the console had in that memory location, depending on how exactly the DS compiler worked. Either way, the value is technically invalid, and actually using it can have any result. Once you interact with any "safe zone", the variable is set to that zone. But until then, it doesn't seem to have been properly initialised, so using it just breaks stuff because the memory location still has garbage in it (with 0 being the most likely value, unless the DS' startup menu writes to that specific memory location). I would _guess_ that it's a pointer, possibly a null pointer; if it was just an index for a lookup table, 0 would just indicate the first entry on the list, and would probably warp you to the first safe zone they added to the game ( _probably_ either your home or the first Pokémon Centre, but it's not guaranteed), but if it's a pointer, then the game would use its value as a memory address (and 0 is *never* a valid memory address to dereference, regardless of the hardware; trying to move to the location at memory address 0 would probably make the game try to read its own code as a map location).
I played platinum a lot as a kid. I couldn't read at all back then, so every item bought for the resort was a mystery for me. That piano was scary as hell.
Of course the piano lifts her spirit while she destroys the spirits of her challengers. You can only get the piano once you've reached the Hall of Fame ten times. And I also love how if you get the audio equipment for the villa, it plays a bossa nova remix of Lilycove City...so dang good. Regarding Psyduck, Psyduck could first learn Amnesia by leveling up in Gen 4, not 9! Psyduck could learn it at level 44 in Gen 4, compared to level 34 in Gen 8 and 9. And Psyduck isn't the only one who can hold a Gorgeous Box as any Pokémon that wins Round 2 in Pokémon Stadium can hold a Gorgeous Box. I wouldn't say it's an obscure fact but a fact about the Grafaiai forest in northern Paldea is that it's legit! It's inspired by the real-life Oma forest in Basque Country. Created by Basque sculptor and painter Agustin Ibarrola between 1982 and 1985. The trees are Monterey pines which aren't native to Spain as they are from California and Mexico. Agustin Ibarrola was inspired by the cave art in the nearby Santimamiñe caves, and he wanted to paint on natural structures with the same technique that cave people used to paint on natural rock formations.
6:25 The Pidgeotto you mentioned was actually a Pidgeot, and the Pidgeot you mentioned was actually a Fearow. 8:15 The games prior to FRLG were Ruby and Sapphire. Emerald came out after FRLG. 8:48 Altering Cave is only available after beating the game in FRLG. In Emerald, you can access it as early as after you get two badges, since you can find it on a route just past Slateport. Other than that, really good video! You really lived up to the intro, I actually didn’t know a lot of these obscure facts.
@@anannoyedpanda I didn’t mean any ill will or sarcasm with my comment. I just genuinely wanted to correct a few things, and I complimented the video for how well-researched and obscure its facts are… It’s a Pokémon facts video, so that’s why I felt I had to clarify some things. I’m sorry if I upset you somehow.
3:32 For this, all prize Pokémon in stadium 1 have trophy boxes: Prize Pokémon caught in round 1 format will have a normal box holding a silver trophy and prize Pokémon from round 2 will have the gorgeous box like the amnesia psyduck
This might not be as obscure as I think it is, but it's a similar concept to the plushies thing. In the gen 4 games (idk know if it's in all of them, or just D/P or just in Platitnum or what), Barry's Pokemon will increase in level when you battle him again in the Battle Area, after you beat the elite 4 over and over. Idk the exact number of time you have to beat them, or when it maxes out. But that's just another cool little fact
6:30 Those are not "Pidgeotto and Pidgeot", they are Pidgeot and Fearow. By the way, I love these videos. Thank you for going the extra mile to find stuff I have truly never heard of before and if I read somewhere else I would think they're made up.
Today is my last day working my shitty retail job, I’m finally moving on. Butttt I used to sneak an earbud under my headband and secretly listen to your videos while at work lol !!!! And on the DAY I leave, you post a NEW video. What are the chances ?? Will be watching and liking under my manager’s noses one last time lol. Thanks for always giving me something to look forward to on the hardest days Blueboyphin.
I heard the music at 7:18, it sounded so familiar. A few seconds later I finally made the connection. Sega Bass Fishing is one of my favorite games ever, it's nice to see it hasn't faded to obscurity after all these years! One of the best purchases I've made on steam. (Also I wanted to say I appreciate you adding that in, brings a lot of good memories back :) )
Just the video I needed today! I can't look forward to these any more than I already do, thank you for the effort you put in c: Your editing is looking even better now!!
@@BlueBoyPhinI have previously mentioned 2 facts you've not put in yet. 1: In Ranger 2 if you run out of time racing back through the Cargo ship, you'll get a hidden text that come's up revealing you Sank to the bottom, and as far as I know that's the only time a main character has ended in Pokemon. 2: Just one day before the future aspect in MD Sky, if you and your Partner talk to Dugtrio at Sharpedo Bluff there's a hidden cut scene.
I believe I was the first person to have made a video documenting the Bard glitch, absolutely wild to see the glitch pop up here! (I'll readily admit I'm not sure if I was the first, I just couldn't find any other videos on it at the time.) Another interesting thing is that this glitch was "fixed" in later revisions of Ruby/Sapphire. The bard still doesn't properly vocalize, instead he just skips over the word quickly rather than standing there menacingly.
Yesterday Tops was talking about the possibility of shiny hunting that Amnesia Psyduck! The DVs seem to be random and I believe it is actually the hardest shiny hunt of all time
5:02 I can't believe the Pokemon manga knew about this. IIRC, there's a scene where Lorelei hides away some of the main cast in her house, and she has a giant Lapras plushie in it. Someone check me
10:42 Would it still change if you teleported out of the department store to a different city? The Lorilei one is a cute detail, didn't expect her to like snuggling up with plushies so much You're a real champ for getting that last one!
The finale of this makes me wonder what happens with if you manage to get the Starly Glitch to work in BDSP and if it ends in the same result since a lot of codes was transferred from the original Diamond and Pearl to BDSP
What leads you to believe that code from a DS game was directly ported to a switch game made by an entirely different company for an entirely different system?
@@LunatheMoonDragon Because there’s a glitch in Diamond and Pearl that was mentioned in a previous facts video where Suction Cups doesn’t guarantee you get an encounter while fishing when it should and has worked in every other game since then, but when BDSP came out, it went back to not working as intended implying that (if not fully), BDSP uses the same code as the original Diamond and Pearl.
Great video! Ive actually done 291 E4 battle in my leaf green copy, specifically to get all the poke dolls inti Lorelei's house! The dolls on the shelf are actually a Pidgeot on the left, and a Fearow on the right! Even better, you can actually "ride" the lapras doll! Ill tag on twitter with photo proof! ;) awesome vid! Well done!
I get so hyped when you upload! As a huge Pokémon nerd, I love learning new and obscure things about the franchise. Thank you for all the hard work and research you put into your videos!💕
Just wanna say thank you for putting together a video that has facts that are actually obscure rather than those that are actually just community "secrets" with a few less known bits thrown in. A lot of videos that I come across with "obscure" facts are mostly facts that can easily be found through a google search on how to get something. This showed up randomly in my recommendations and I'm glad that I clicked on it. Across the over 4,000 hours I have spread across all of my Pokémon games, I knew NONE of these. Again, thank you for the effort of pulling all of this together.
The Celadon city glitch is very interesting from a coding perspective They store the memory address of the name of the place where the pokemon was found, which is very common as storing a whole string (of characters) requires much more memory than storing its address. The weird thing is, they change the name of the city to Celadon Dept. which alters every variable that's been set to the address of the city's name.
Loved this, I only knew about that sprite oddity with Cyndaquil, but my favorite thing about this video is that you chose to use the Time Station OST from Ape Escape, which to me is the most immaculate soundtrack ever, it's the first time I hear it as background music for a video
I never dedicated myself enough to the post-game of platinum to see that Easter egg with Cynthia; but deadass I'm about to ask my sibling for the cartridge back just to re-experience Platinum and experience that specifically for the first time. That was cool, Cynthia is the best, I stan her so much.
I "lived" in my Platinum copy for 250 something hours. I had the resort house and some of the furniture. I vaguely remember some gym leaders visiting, but I'm not sure if i got everything. I had a ton of money though....
Losing against that Starly takes blacking out to a whole new level indeed But I do agree with people, the name Celebi coming up slowly and without a word is creepy, we need that creepypasta to be written by someone 😂
Pokémon is still a mysterious series. As they have programming quirk and oddities, there is a lot of secrets that leads us to create many theories and try to understand how this world works. It's fascinating.
I'd be curious to see if hatching a Pokemon in Celadon Dept Store and then teleporting back to the last Pokemon Centre you've been to (obviously not in Celadon) would retain the relevant Met Location tag
For the last fact, I do believe there's a lot more to it on real hardware, and even the beta versions of Pearl and Diamond. I vaguely recall someone actually losing the fight in the beta to have a bright pink error handler screen appear, and a mess of colors on hardware with an official US English Platinum cartridge. May be worth looking further into.
The variable that indicates which "safe zone" to warp you to on defeat is probably uninitialised, and actually reading it before something sets it causes a segfault. That's my guess, at least.
@@MrOmegatronic Pretty sure thats actually just set the moment you talk to your mom for the first time. Not the most knowledgeable on Gen 4, 5 is my expertise, so i might be wrong
I assumed it gets set whenever you interact with a standard healer NPC, myself, @@Oersted_LAL. Not any of the ones you sometimes find out on a route, but the ones that operate safe locations like home or centres. They probably figured that the fight was effectively unwinnable, and thus they didn't need to actually _initialise_ it, since it would be set to your home "before" you actually enter a battle where you can actually lose. (Or just missed it by accident, which might not've been hard depending on their coding environment.) I'm not sure exactly how it's coded either, though, so this _is_ just speculation on my end.
Beyond the astonishing effort that went into this project, you just gotta respect the unbelievable amount of amen breaks included in this video. Got a chuckle out of me when I realized what I was hearing...
Okay, yeah. You earned a sub just from that Psyduck fact alone. I thought I knew everything there was to know about Obscure Pokémon facts, but you’ve actually shown me a TON of new stuff. Thank you!
I’m pretty sure in Emerald, if you name the girl “Sissy” like I did after my sister, the boy rival will say “I ain’t losin to no sissy” during one of the rival fights. I remember being bewildered reading that, but I was also like 12 and couldn’t easily misread it
Yup, looks like your memory is correct. When you arrive at Lilycove City and go to the department store, your rival is standing there. If your rival is Brendan, he says, "Oh, hey, its . I'm running an errand for my dad. No, I'm not buying any Dolls. Anyways, it's been a while. Want to have a battle to see who's been raising Pokémon better?" If you respond yes, he says, "Aww, but you know I'm not going to lose to no ."
I had no idea that psyduck couldn't learn amnesia for so long and it absolutely kind of blows me away because it really does seem like a Psyduck type move

@@Truepurple7 No. The Starly kills you. It pecks you to death.. with.. like, Tackle, or something like that.
@CtrlAltBacks The game breaks because that wasn't supposed to happen and the starly wasn't programmed to defeat a starter pokemon.
@@Truepurple7 :| my og comment and reply was a joke. i know its a glitch. i knew it was a glitch before this video dropped. im making a joke.
That bard not singing Celebi and it just popping up slowly... Was actually kinda creepy, ngl.
Maybe he is cursed not to talk about them!

Really odd how with just that word and that word alone, the bard silently spells out CELEBI rather than sings CELEBI.
I won't if it its a quirk of an inaccurate emulator. I want to see what happens on real hardware.
The fact that Lorelei canonically buys plushies to console herself after every loss is so damn cute. Best E4 girl.
Someone enters her room: "hey lorelei what are you doing?"

Yeah but you got to EARN her sorrow you got to defeat the Elite Four dozens and dozens of times...LOL
Every 25 losses, takes 200 to get that Lapras!
For fact number 1:
This is probably a default setting. Talking to the guard loads in the safari zone (too costly to have it loaded at all times). They probably needed to have a default pokemon you could encounter (plus this makes the game not crash if you were to accidentally get there via an exploit). It's more likely a fail safe rather than an anti cheating measure
Yea, you probably can't have an empty encounter table so they added a 100% lvl 20 Rattata

As a kid, I actually beat the Elite Four 100 times in Ruby because I heard a rumor that you could unlock Deoxys. It never actually happened but I'm glad that it actually did something in another game lol.
I've heard the same, but alongside varying numbers like 200 or getting Jirachi on the moon. Man, what a widespread rumor!
A friend of mine did that as well! Crazy how far rumors spread without any form of social media
I miss the old urban legends like the space center and the moon
the internet kind of ruined that stuff because now you can just look things up
People probably could make a creepypasta about the Bard being unable to sing the name Celebi.
It could feel like it could mean that The Bard is actually a time traveler and knows that name and its scared of that name which means he could barely not even "sing" Celebis name, he just wants to go home
The bard is a vampire so he hates onions

Fun fact, if losing that first DP battle didn't crash the game and warped you at your house like losing a battle normally would, it would be by far the fastest speedruning route. Because by going into your house you would trigger the mom and player walking down to the table cutscene that normally plays starting from the top of the room after a transition, except here you would play it from the door, so by walking down your character would get moved... into the void, where typical tweaking trick subglitches can be used to get anywhere or HoF warp. It's really funny how close this was to being by far the most useful glitch in gen 4 speedrunning
Or reset the events so you can get 2 starters.
But we will never know since it just crashes.
@@TheDenssy Yeah i was kind of implying TAS

Maybe it wasn't just a blackout. Maybe the trainer DIED! Since they never wake up again.
Starly is now a moirderer.
Yes the game does say blacked out, however what they meant was whited out as is used in later generations, as I doubt they meant that the trainer fell asleep due to being drunk.

It's 100% because Gen 2 had to famously be optimized, hence they didn't want to use more memory than needed.
@@kyotopiaxblue It's anything that raises friendship at its met location, using a Pokemon in battle doesn't raise friendship at all.
Also there are legitimate ways to get Celebi in gen 3 without events.

I think the only reason for the Rattata in the Safari Zone is to prevent an encounter with Missingno. Its simply a place holder.
And also reward shiny hunter with staple rattata spawn
Something I find really interesting is that you can technically win the Mega Evolution tutorial in X/Y without Mega Evolving, even though the game resets the battle after the first turn if you don’t. You need to use Bone Rush and land all 5 hits with at least 2 (possibly 3) crits. Sadly the game just resets the battle like normal again

Cottonee's front sprite also changed from BW to B2W2.
Not exactly a new sprite, but Servine gets a new part to its animation were it starts running in place for a bit.
Oshawott also has a different animation, iirc.
Tyranitar also got one, looked really bad in BW1 compared to BW2
The Amnesia Psyduck is simpler than what was described. Any prize Pokémon from Stadium will hold either a Normal Box or a Gorgeous Box, depending on if it was obtained on Round 1 or 2. Therefore, it's not just Psyduck, but the starters, the Hitmons, Eevee and the fossils. The normal box can be opened to reveal a Silver Trophy, while the gorgeous box will be a Gold Trophy.
Psyduck can, therefore, net you either box, because it can be gotten in round 1, if you register every Pokémon then.
Also, Psyduck learns Amnesia by levelup since generation 4, so since 2007, no idea why he said 20 years

Gayyyyyy
Glad I saw this before I went on a tangent about it lmao
So you're saying that the encounter table for my fridge is by default nothing that I want to eat, but by triggering an event (going to the store to buy what I want to eat) the encounter table overwrites the current table?!
@@jenshast1488 Yes !! Exactly!

You might be able to keep the “celadon dep.” description if the celadon Pokémon was in your party but then you faint inside the dept due to poison DOT
My theory is that they just overwrite Celadon City's location name so it changes in the area text box, instead of being it's own unique location.
So it wouldn't happen, probably, unless it also skips the check and the whole city is called Celadon Dep. From then onwards.
I'd be curious to see what happens. Especially if you set your last Pokemon Center as a something other than celedon.
I got chills and goosebumps as soon as I heard Cynthia's theme. Talk about scarring man.

I don't know if it's obscure, but I learned recently that in DPP Arceus *actually has a ???-form* with a green and purple sprite when you check your team
It's only accessible by hacking and doesn't seem to be usable in battle (it reverts to his normal sprite) but I still find it interesting that the devs put it into the game
Yeah, it exists, probably to avoid crashes if hacked into the game in some way.
??? Type was so hard to program correctly that they just got rid of it in subsequent generations.

FINALLY someone brings up the bard in emerald! His singing weirded me out as a kid and then I just never found out more about him as I grew up
The last one makes a lot of sense, actually, it's just a very slight oversight in the code causing a segfault; there's probably an extremely small chance of it warping you to any valid location, and an extremely large chance of it just crashing the game. (And it'll always be a crash outside of very specific circumstances, probably.)
Mechanically, assuming the game is written in C or C++, then the variable indicating which "safe zone" to warp you to on death is probably left uninitialised, which means that it contains either "0" or whatever value the console had in that memory location, depending on how exactly the DS compiler worked.
12:14 I’m gonna go buy that piano RIGHT NOW
12:01 sorry for the Flashbacks for everyone with PTSD from Cynthia❤

17:22 I see this now as a canonical bad ending of Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, where Starly kills everyone and the story ends
Well done!
Just a heads up:
Buyee just got hacked and their entire DB posted on the dark web.
It's a great service, but it's something you should be aware of.
1:17 Is this where Joey got his top percentage Rattata?
Was hoping to find comments on how you made the Bard sing about ‘eating Celebi’ but was disappointed that there were none 🙁
i came here to look for comments about that too! i commented about it myself
The Time Station music from Ape Escape during the Lorelei fact made me feel nostalgia.
I can relate to the Elite Four member who collects more stuff when you beat her. I, too, buy stuff to make myself feel better when I'm sad, lol.
I think this was the only youtube commercial i didnt skip. Nice job man. Very informative and too the point even for longer than a minute
The last part was the same thing when you randomized your starter into one of the Regis since at level 5, it only knows Explosion.
I just imagine the Bard with an angry face staring at you, shaking his head, refusing to say Celebi
The Celadon city glitch is very interesting from a coding perspective
They store the memory address of the name of the place where the pokemon was found, which is very common as storing a whole string (of characters) requires much more memory than storing its address. The weird thing is, they change the name of the city to Celadon Dept. which alters every variable that's been set to the address of the city's name.
Mad respect for playing the classic Ape Escape music in the background 👌
Loved this, I only knew about that sprite oddity with Cyndaquil, but my favorite thing about this video is that you chose to use the Time Station OST from Ape Escape, which to me is the most immaculate soundtrack ever, it's the first time I hear it as background music for a video
I never dedicated myself enough to the post-game of platinum to see that Easter egg with Cynthia; but deadass I'm about to ask my sibling for the cartridge back just to re-experience Platinum and experience that specifically for the first time. That was cool, Cynthia is the best, I stan her so much.
I would like to mention how psychic’s animation changes from DP to HGSS for no apparent reason. It’s always bugged me a lot
I "lived" in my Platinum copy for 250 something hours. I had the resort house and some of the furniture. I vaguely remember some gym leaders visiting, but I'm not sure if i got everything. I had a ton of money though....
Losing against that Starly takes blacking out to a whole new level indeed
But I do agree with people, the name Celebi coming up slowly and without a word is creepy, we need that creepypasta to be written by someone 😂
the Bard Celebi moment feels like it came from a Creepypasta.
Dang so many facts I've never heard about before, you really do your research and work well
Pokémon is still a mysterious series.
That entire Celebi thing with the bard is borderline creepypasta shit, holy crap.
Thank you!
glitching my way into the HGSS safari zone is my new favorite Spe EV training spot
If your rival is Brendan, he says,
"Oh, hey, its . I'm running an errand for my dad. No, I'm not buying any Dolls. Anyways, it's been a while. Want to have a battle to see who's been raising Pokémon better?"
If you respond yes, he says,
"Aww, but you know I'm not going to lose to no ."
I thought the guy in Mauville City was version dependent because my brother and I had a different one. Crazy to learn that 20 years later !!

"If the stars align"
Don't you mean if the Starlys align?
I had no idea that psyduck couldn't learn amnesia for so long and it absolutely kind of blows me away because it really does seem like a Psyduck type move
In the gen 5 games, if you hold B and stand still, the npc trainers will move much faster. This can be used to avoid their eyesight faster.
You truly bring the most obscure facts available to the table
This is the first time I’ve ever followed a UA-cam ad or sponsorship. Props. Definitely going to check this place out.
