    Here is a great place to get some natural looking decorations like wood and rocks. This is also where I buy most of my live plants: bit.ly/2NcdwkD

    I started off with the gavel/plastic plants tank, but I moved into a natural aquarium and I my advice for that is this: prepare/budget for plants to die, melt, or like me, you may end up buying mondo grass, which isn't even a aquatic plant. I don't aquascape with a plan and I like tall plants at the front of the tank. I feel like it frames the tank and hides heaters/filters just as well from the front. I think I've done alright for low tech tanks and both my betta buddies (Kepler and Freddie) are both doing really well in their planted tanks!

    Built my new 72" x 24" background from foam board spray foam and hydraulic concrete all together was near $50 big difference from there to $400 to 600+ to purchase one and I'm pretty happy with it not sure I'd do it again either tho lol

      Kyle Massey That’s awesome! Yes, making them is a lot of work. I made 5 backgrounds similar to this. None were easy! Hahaha!

    Is any wood safe? Can I just forge around or they have to be a specific plant?
    Can you build caves with PVC? Like start on one end and curves around to the other side?

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  5 років тому

      I wouldn’t recommend just any wood. You will want a hardwood. You also need to make sure that it is free of any inhabitants. Boiling a hardwood or bleaching it in the sun is a good way.

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  5 років тому +1

      Yes, PVC caves are easy to make. I use them. I can make a video on how to do it in the future.

    What are the best cichlids for a 20 long tank?

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  5 років тому

      Dwarf cichlids. Tanganyikan shell dwellers would do well. A pair of Apistos or Rams would also do well.

    what do you think about adding decorations to a planted tank? will the decoration bother the plants?

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  Рік тому

      No, as long as they don’t block light decorations are fine.

    I buy rocks at my local building supply store. I have granite, lava rocks, slate, river rocks and feather rock in my tanks. I drill holes and make caves in the rocks. Not a fan of fake decorations they make the aquarium smell bad. In my personal opinion, products in this hobby are over priced. But I have to say I understand the business side of it, but then again I think it would bring more people into the hobby if it wasn't so expensive.
