Mei Yuk: Making Art is a Political Act

Mei Yuk is an artist and writer based in Manchester.
In this interview, Mei Yuk talks to us about her education and training as an artist in London, and the difficulties surrounding making art vs. making a living. She believes in the power of art: for self-expression, for challenging unjust situations, and as a political act. Mei Yuk has used art as a form of political protest during the Umbrella Movement and continues to do so individually and in artist collectives.
We met Mei Yuk through Global Arts Manchester, and interviewed her in her home November 2018. She welcomed us for dinner over homemade sushi and later gifted us an aloe vera plant. Thank you again Mei Yuk.
