@@indiankid8601 so the only thing I can think of is how The Valyrian Freehold used to have slaves and how the Faceless Men came about after one prayed for their death. Which is why the Targaryens flee and ended up surviving.
Such a brilliant concept to have the intro for a show about the decline of the Targaryan dynasty be juxtaposed with an animation documenting the family’s rise and dominance. It reinforces how tragic the story truly is. And having it visualised in embroidery fits the medieval setting perfectly.
I never recognised that the intro is history of Targaryen until i see a king sitting on the throne with neck slashed... Maegor the epic just like Mad King Aerys... You can recognise them anywhere...
For those that want to known, I had the notion that this intro was inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry 1067, that is based on the Battle of Hastings of 1066, where the Normand's invaded England, seeing that the Targaryen are partially based on the Normans (also the Greek and Romans), is fitting that they did an intro with a tapestry showing their history, in the real world, William torn apart the body of Harold and cut into pieces, but the tapestry show a more rosy death for Harold.
Andals were based on Normans, Westeros is like stagnant medieval Europe where artstyle, architecture and economy don't change much so everything is really similar even hundreds of years later.
@@TheKeyser94 makes sense. I have always pictured the first men as Britons and the Andals as Anglo-Saxons (hell, Andal does sound like Angle after all). Notably, the Anglo-Saxons ended up splitting the island into seven kingdoms. Although in real history the kingdoms were united by a west saxon dinasty, it is still pretty accurate to see the Targaryens as Normans - especially since they both brought an innovation in warfare (dragons and mounted heavy cavalry).
@@davidesguario9729 You are forgetting castles, before the Normands invaded Britain, there were hills motte made of woods, that were the main fortress of the Anglo-Saxons noble families.
There does not need to be a dedicated HOTD theme. The main theme is The Song of Ice and Fire and It will remain the main theme in every upcoming spinoff
0:10 something tells me that's Azor Ahai and Nissa Nissa, and that their story may be somehow related to the creation of Old Valyria and dragon bonds. And something tells me Lightbringer is no sword, but actually a dagger, since we see the man behind the woman wielding a much smaller weapon than a sword. I suspect Aegon The Conqueror's dagger is actually Lightbringer. It would make perfect sense, since Arya uses it centuries later to end the Night King, who represents darkness and destruction, and Aegon the Conqueror wrote the prophecy of the Song of Ice and Fire there.
In the show, probably. I doubt it in the books. If Lighbringer isn't gonna be a sword, it's most likely a dragon in the books. It's also contentious who's Azor Ahai in the books. There's strong evidence it could either be Jon or Dany. I don't think it'll matter who in the end, but it's definitely an intriguing plot point.
@@uryenatienza4093Dawn (Sword of House Dayne) might’ve been the original Lightbringer. Bloodstone Emperor could be foreshadowing for Euron being an Evil Azor Ahai figure. I’m partial to the idea of the 3 Heads being Jon, Dany, and Euron (an unnatural evil head)
@@gabebartlett9680 this is one I can get behind. The reason I believe Lightbringer could've been a dragon was that OG Azor Ahai was probys a warrior of the Empire of the Dawn, and the empire most likely had dragons. The reason I believe they had dragons is due to the description of the Five Forts being strange and similar things Valyrian architecture, and that House Dayne might be related to Valyrians AND are ancestors of the Empire of the Dawn. But Lightbringer could just be Dawn. I love the theory that Euron is a Bloodstone Emperor Figure. I also like the three headed dragon idea, granted from a story and symbolism perspective, the three heads are Jon, Dany, and Tyrion.
The only thing that is missing with this type of opening are the background sounds that the others possess. Like the movement of cogs and wheels, sound of rushing water or even the burning sun from the GoT opening, and many more. These sounds add to the epicness of the already epic intro
Imho sometimes the added sound effects are a bit too much. Probably it's just bad sound mixing that tried to recapture the epicness of the previous GOT. I hope the tapestry intro carries over the succeeding seasons because it has a more ancient Dark Age/Medieval vibe to it.
I really hope they continue to use this song for the intro to every Game of Thrones show. It’s just too perfect. Just like how the Star Wars theme is the theme for everything Star Wars related, this theme should be the main theme for everything Game of Thrones related.

0:34 - 0:40 : Aegon the Conqueror with his sisters on their dragons
0:40 - 0:47 : Harrenhal and the Field of Fire (major battles during Aegon Targaryen's war of conquest, we can see Harren Hoare + both Lannister and Gardener sigils burning)

The new intro was beautiful the tapestry is so much better than last season's goody CGI river or blood.
The tapestry tells history of westeros.
Not really, it tells the story of the Targaryen family. If it were the story of Westeros, it would start from the Dawn Age.
Love the inclusion of Meraxes and Silverwing 🥺
And Vermithor.
@@edgarrojas5060we have already seen him

@@alex30425The first couple of scenes are not Valyrians at all. It’s The Great Empire Of The Dawn and The Bloodstone Emperor usupring and betraying his sister the Amethyst empress.
There’s actually a few things right before the Doom of Valyria.
- 0:04 the founding of the Valyrian Empire.
- 0:07 the Valyrians creating dragons and them messing with blood magic.
- 0:13 Daenys Targaryen dreaming of the Doom of Valyria and the Targaryens moving to Dragon Stone.
- 0:24 Doom of Valyria.
- 0:40 this shows the houses that tried to fight the Targaryens and being wiped out in the field of fire by the Targaryen’s dragons.
-1:34 as the camera pans up to reveal an empty canvas ahead for all the future events that will occur and how it leads back to the Iron throne.
@@wargattack8837Yeah those scenes could could be that as well. Those are just how I interpreted them.
0:45 is field of fire. You can see Lannister and Gardener sigil on the Burned shields
0:13 Daenys forsaw end of Valyria and Targaryens chose exile to get away from the catalyst that would occur.
0:24 Doom of Valyria
0:35 is the trio Targaryen siblings going for conquest.
0:40 is the fire of Harrenhall
0:45 is actually Field of Fire where House Gardener was destroyed and Lannisters bend the knee.
0:31 is when they burnt Harrenhal I think, or maybe the Doom of Valyria. 0:38 is Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya. 0:45 is the Field of Fire (I think, because you see a shield with what looks like the Gardener sigil and what looks like the Lannister sigil) 0:49 is House Arryn, Stark, and Tully bending the knee, 0:57 is "The Iron Throne" murdering Maegor. 1:00 is Jaehaerys and Alysanne. 1:03 is the Great Council. 1:08 is Alicent crashing Rhaenyra's pre-wedding feast in green, and the lines being drawn.
Its in chronological order, so 0:31 is Doom of Valyria
@@YogaPratama-gt7bdyeah that makes sense
What is the handcuffed slave? And what is one person holding the other dying person after that
@@indiankid8601 so the only thing I can think of is how The Valyrian Freehold used to have slaves and how the Faceless Men came about after one prayed for their death. I highly doubt that it’s depicting it though. The other one could be Daenys the Dreamer prophesying about the Doom of Valyria to her father Aenar. Which is why the Targaryens flee and ended up surviving.
You're a saint, thank you
0:57 is that king maegor?!?!
Oh for sure.
Yep
The one true king 😢
It is!!! That’s so cool !
Yes. Maegor the Cruel ❤
Absolutely in love with this intro! Just look at all the details.
This intro it's pure beauty, It just... took my breathe away
That image of Maegor The Cruel, killed by the Iron Throne itself with two dragons shrieking by the sides is intimidating 😢
the score that played at the end of s2 eps 1's end credits scene was actually so perfect
This sound track is the Greatest Of All Time.
As an embroidery nerd I LOVE this!
I am a newbie! Could you direct me to how - I can get started with drawing sigil and all?
Oh yeah 👍❤
I don’t know if I decided that this is best intro of the franchise.. or I’m just happy the show is back on lol
It can be two things lmao
Like this way better than the season 1 opening credits. Well done!

the way I got embroidery material after watchin' this intro. Can't wait to weave!!!! ❤❤❤ Thank you HoTD ❤❤❤ love this art!
I did it guys! Embroidered a sigil....as a beginner...makes me so happy ❤❤
Ah, I haven't heard this theme in a whole year, it's lovely hearing it again. 😊
Love how they changed it so Jaehaerys (son of Helaena) was in it
This intro is way better than s1 in my opinion! It gives that history vibes about the Dance which I'm loving
Totally agreed 💯
Such a brilliant concept to have the intro for a show about the decline of the Targaryan dynasty be juxtaposed with an animation documenting the family’s rise and dominance. It reinforces how tragic the story truly is. And having it visualised in embroidery fits the medieval setting perfectly.
0:44 goddamn! This line is legendary
Extremely fitting that they put Harrenhal over that line of music honestly.
This intro truly fits the show. Green all day!!
TEAM BLACK ALL THE WAY!
TEAM BLACK!!!
what a cool embroidery intro.
Everyone is weaving their plan for the iron throne so it is a perfect foreshadowing opening ❤
I never recognised that the intro is history of Targaryen until i see a king sitting on the throne with neck slashed... Maegor the epic just like Mad King Aerys... You can recognise them anywhere...
The tapestries starts with the Doom of Valyria and ends on Dance of the Dragon.
Maegor THE CRUEL
@@bannedeverywhere The Andals were based on the Anglo-Saxons at least that what George RR Martin says.
Damn. This is so beautiful it made me not be mad that there still isn’t a HotD theme
There does not need to be a dedicated HOTD theme.
The main theme is The Song of Ice and Fire and It will remain the main theme in every upcoming spinoff
This is a Game of Thrones PREQUEL. It makes sense having the GOT theme, you ungrateful idiots
I am seriously addicted to this music ❤️
I was most surprised by Maegor's death in the tapestry . With Vermithor and Silverwing . The throne rejected him .
The music will never get old 🗣️🔥
Again again and again. Amaizing!!
This music will never not be epic

Again again and again. Amaizing song!
This song makes me feel excited
I really hope they continue to use this song for the intro to every Game of Thrones show. It’s just too perfect. Just like how the Star Wars theme is the theme for everything Star Wars related, this theme should be the main theme for everything Game of Thrones related.

Long Live The Fighters
The last image gave me chills
At 1:00 is that King Jahaerys the Conciliator and Good Queen Alyssanne?
YEP
I really hope that in season 3, the tapestry is updated to include events from season 2, since this intro has the death of Lucerys Velaryon, which kickstarted the war.
The Dance of the Dragons is like WW1 it started with the asssassination of Franz Ferdinand/ death of Lucerys

I’ve always told people that if they need to know what happened to lead up to the show, just watch the intro. The first game of thrones intro also showed the war that put the baratheons on the throne (in the form of their animals) Love it, the whole tapestry thing is genius, and it looks so creepy but tells the story perfectly. They even have the original Aegon and Visenya Targaryen, the court where they decided Viserys would be king over Rhaenys and Alicent with a path between her and Rhaenyra, perfect intro.
