It wasn’t only the white lady, but the FACT they changed the lore and said the original doctor was a black woman.
Also the writing and pacing. The pacing had gone to shit in later seasons of Doctor Who already mind you but for some reason it really really went to shit when they introduced a female actress. I don’t know if they put the writers on sedatives or what but it was awful.
The Doctor is a very powerful Alien, a Timelord.
They can regenerate a limited number of times and can still die if the force that hurt them is strong enough.
In the final series with the Female Doctor they changed The Doctor's origin to an unknown alien that is completely Immortal. They can die and will always come back.
So the very First Doctor isn't the first Doctor. There have been an infinite number before them and there is absolutely no chance of The Doctor dying permanently now.
It's like changing Iron Man and saying "actually Tony Stark isn't human. He's an immortal Alien and he's back."
They....didn't say the original Doctor was a black woman, The Original Doctor has been regenerating before they crossed over to our universe, it was just that current look.

Now he's special because they turned him into an immortal being from a different dimension.
Instead of being a Time lord that stole a TARDIS to adventure, he is now a special being destined to do that.
By making him special it removes the choice part we can relate to as an audience.
He's no longer special because of his actions instead his actions are as such because he's special.

If you have a race of people on a planet that all live underground and developed under ground away from sunlight, then getting a cast of them as white actors, black actors, and Asian actors would be equally stupid, as basic science tells you what ever developed underground as a species would all look the same.
Either all white, all black, or all Asian looking.
And using real science it's most likely all white due to lack of sunlight.
Same as a race of people developing in a dessert or super heated place would be either black or Arabic looking and the actors to play them roles should be like the real science would dictate.
Obviously if the race is blue skin or green skin then anyone can play it as they all look the same in make up and prosthetics.
All this mingling of races as the same species . . . . Like Rings of Power with black elves, black, dwarfs, black hobbits or whatever is just utter trash.
They are all different races and would not all have the same white and black dynamic.
That is unrealistic on a scientific level, even for a fantasy film.
The show has to have some REAL WORLD DYNAMICS to be believable in the first place.

As a black dude who grew up with dr.who, I just want the show to be good again idc who does it as long as who the people aren't the main focus in casting. focus on people who will be good for the role instead of random actors that barely know how to act. The last doctor didn't even know the character.
Ncuti is good in the role though, and really talented, he just needs good material. I really enjoyed his first Christmas special aside from the musical. Apparently he’s been a big fan of the show too.

I've been away from Dr Who for a bit, but the fact that this is an actual scene from the show boggles my mind. The idea that the incredibly beloved David Tennant would return only to be treated like this. It's disgraceful.
In 1963 the UK was over 99% white. It was made for a UK audience, specifically a young male audience who would statistically be overwhelmingly straight. So yes, it was made for straight white males.

The female doctor actress wasn't even that bad, but the writing was god awful. They quite literally put a chick in it and made her gay and lame.

@@T-Vexed It was made as an educational adventure show for young children and was in the science fiction genre which in that time was primarily a male sphere. I love that your mom loved it, you can enjoy something that is not marketed to you, I enjoy a Shoujo manga from time to time but I don't claim the genre should cater to me as a man. If it did change then it wouldn't be what it is. Dr Who was aimed in a similar vein as the Hardy Boys books, change the formula too much and you get something like Velma.

I’m black and non binary and am severely upset that they made the doctor a black man following him becoming a woman. He wouldn’t have been a white male for the past TWENTY regenerations if changing races or sexes was apart of his character. The show was just PERFECT, and diversity was shown in companions, aliens, and the environment! The thing that really pisses me off is these sort of changes to established ip come out of nowhere and are handled with the writers version of take a sledge hammer to everything and take a dump on what remains to mark our territory! The issue with a female Doctor was never that she was a woman. It's how they gave a master class in how NOT to write a strong female character. Imo they really screwed over Jodie Whittaker and let her down with what they gave her to work with. Star Trek did the exact same thing with ST:D. Groundbreaking change...never seen before in scifi...so Babylon 5, Star Trek TNG, DS9, VOY and Enterprise, Battlestar Galactica never happened then?! BSG is actually a prime example. When it came out Katee Sackhoff was cast as Starbuck ppl lost their minds about making such a change. The original was good enough and shouldn't be messed with...and then instantly went "oh... I get it and this is amazing" when it came out and they got to see Katee Sackhoff be Starbuck. Audience didn't fall in line because she was a woman. They got behind a well writen character that earned their respect.
On second thoughts it IS groundbreaking change never seen before. Never have so many in movie and TV been so keen to utterly destroy what has been handed to them with established IP and stories. Never have so many in TV and movies been so out of touch with the general population aka THEIR CUSTOMERS and incapable of seeing they're bankrupting their own industry as a result.

Personally I'm against diversity. What I'm for is accurste socio-historical representation of people. If a person doesn't have to be somewhere don't put them there, simple as that. Make it coherent, not relevant to your agenda.
I'm not saying the lady who wrote the article was right; far from it. But terrible writing aside, the Doctor's regeneration has always been a lottery, so it's fine to have a fresh face of a different race or gender pop up. A random-generating alien is not the same thing as adding a black actress to a Nordic fairy tale.
I'm sure that for every person like this writing an incensed article, there's also one mad about the race/gender changes, because I've read them as they cropped up. I'd rather people be mad that writing or acting sucks (like the virtue signaling they were giving the Doctor in this clip for not "understanding"), not because someone of a different complexion got cast in the title role.

I grew up with Doctor who. In fact, the show helped me through some hard shit in my life. Some of the Doctors I felt I resonated with. And then the female Doctor happens and the writing goes to shit. Then now specifically targeting and discriminating my race and gender. This hurt. Its like being punched by a parent for no reason. This is just hurtful dialog with none of the spirit the show had in the past. I LOVED this show, and they butchered it, and are rubbing it in the faces of the fans. Some my say "Get over it, its just a show!" but this "Show" felt like a piece of me.
If The Doctor was a real person, he would be sickened by this.

I'd say the death of doctor who started with Matt Smith's run. It's when a big part of the soul of the series died. Peter Capaldi has some fantastic episodes, but the core still felt broken to me.

I grew up watching Dr Who, my late uncle introduced me to it when I was small in the late 80s. This was very unusual as I was American and NO ONE had ever heard of it. I watched the revival in 2005 - 2010, and as a long time fan I loved it. However, I noticed as time went on it became worse and worse as if being taken over by activists and the new fan base were tourists claiming they had been there since the beginning in 2005.
The problem wasn’t that the Doctor became a woman at point it’s how they written her and the lore changes just to pander to minorities and as a minority myself and a woman that shit was cringy af. This new Doctor isn’t bad but goddamn that first episode with the space babies was too much, the Maestro episode was alright but the most recent one is the one I liked the most and where you actually see the actor shine as the Doctor and I hope the rest of the season is more like that episode. He gives me vibes of the 10th and 11th Doctors with a bit of spice from the 9th
