There is a genetic defect called 'Stahl's Ear' that makes the ears pointed like elf ears from birth. Most peoples' parents have it corrected during infancy or early childhood, but I actually used to know a girl who had it and never had it corrected. She had legit elf ears, and it was really cool.

I had never heard of this before and had to google it because I have one ear that is pointed. So I learned today that I have Stahl's Ear! Most of the search results that showed up talked about corrective surgery for it, which I found odd because, for me at least, I don't see a reason to correct it and actually really like my one pointed ear.

    • @Pavlinka__

@@samschmidt8772 Well, a reason for correcting it would be to not have to risk being bullied. That's usually the reason for cosmetic surgeries for children. Which is kinda weird, making kids undergo cosmetic surgery just so they don't get bullied lol, when it's, like, simple stuff. If they had a weird tumor looking thing, get rid of it, but pointy ears or ears that stick out a bit too much?? That's weird. But oh well I guess.

I have this on both of my ears - one is a tiny bit more pointed, but really *both* are pointed. The points are way more subtle - more like the elves on LOTR.
In fact, after my mum, stepdad and I exited the theater from the Fellowship Of the Ring, a girl stopped me in the lobby and asked where I'd gotten my ears from! XD
      My mum laughed and said
      "She got them from ME!"
So cute. I love my mum.
I have always loved elves too - LOTR version.
I'm only 5' 5" and chunky, which I have always despised - but *shrugs* I'm ok and look young for my 54 years - the only plastic surgery I want is to get my excess skin removed after my weight loss surgery (done for medical reasons) - lost 100 pounds, and it's an adventure.
Hope Luis is doing well, he's gorgeous no matter what! ^_^

The world's most intelligent people like Dr. Youn aren't as aware of mainstream information - like how 'Legolas' is pronounced correctly - because they spend their time on more 'impactful' activities. Often (not always!) when I encounter someone who knows all things celebrities and pop media, they don't anything else than that. In other words, I'd rather be as knowledgeable and experienced in a specific field like Dr. Youn than knowing mainstream information and feeling 'cool', but knowing nothing else than that. 😂 Plus, Dr. Youn can easily learn how 'Legolas' is pronounced in 30sec whereas not everyone else can learn medicine like him in 30sec.

I struggle with body dysphoria mostly because how this society has standers on how people should look like. Maybe if we just let people look like however they want to look like, we wouldn't have body dysphoria. It's fine as long as the understand the risks, after all it's their body and it's not hurting anyone. Most surgeries or any medical treatment always have risks.

@@KALLASALEGACYthe problem with using surgery for body dysmorphia is that, until you treat the underlying condition with phycological help, those who get the surgery are never happy with the "new look" and will return again and again for more surgery, always looking to correct what they believe is outward flaws with an inward concept. The outside will never be good enough. You saw this with MJ. He'd had upwards of what, 12 nose jobs? And he was never happy ~ until his nose collapsed and he was left without being able to breathe and without a sense of smell. (Don't forget, without the sinus, we are unable to taste. It is only in combination of our nose and mouth that we can taste anything)

@@KALLASALEGACYmental illnesses cannot be fixed with surgeries- they might temporarily alleviate the symptoms, but they WILL come back. The healthiest solution is to seek therapy to try to learn radical acceptance. Obviously, if someone wants to have surgery to look like an elf, we can’t stop them because they’ll eventually find a doctor who will say “yes.” But that doesn’t mean we can’t advocate for proper mental health treatment.

I had a rhinoplasty tacked onto another operation-- the doctors were doing a bone graph in the same area and decided to make my nostrils symmetrical. I was born with a cleft lip and pallette so 1 nostril was flatter than the other. But I could breathe through it. I was too young and my dad was listening to the doctors so we both said yes... now it's hard to breathe out of that nostril and the scar tissue diminished my ability to smell before Covid altered it even more.

This guy thinks that he can “live without breathing” through his nose, but he obviously hasn’t thought about how unpleasant it will be when he’s trying to eat and drink as well as sleep, and I suspect that he’s possibly going to have some dental problems from having to solely rely on his mouth to get oxygen. Additionally, there’s a safety issue if he’s ever in need of surgery. He might end up having to have a tracheotomy done to prevent him dying. That’s definitely not going to jive with his elvish look. I think he’s probably in need of some kind of counseling if he’s willing to put his health & safety behind his appearance.

BUT, if you go blind, not only you can't enjoy your results, not only you can't enjoy _other_ people's beauty, but you can even forget your visual memories! I wear my hair up while I work and most people just don't pay that detailed attention to other people's appearance. If I point it out, they usually find it cool and unusual but I haven't had any bad reactions. I live in Finland where body modifications are nowadays quite common and generally accepted, but some of the more extreme ones will still garner attention. My ears go nearly unnoticed.

I can't help but feel that people are far to concerned about their outer appearance rather focusing on their inner world. Following trends by wanting to look like someone else or just to look different is the most silliest thing because if you can't be happy with who you are, then you'll never be happy, plus spending a great deal of money on something that can disfigure you for life and cause you pain is stupid. When you can except and love yourself for who you really are then others will find you loveable and attractive. This doctor tried to convince me that my nose correction had left me disfigured and that I urgently needed a second surgery with him to correct it, just because I have a really barely visible small notch on the bridge of my nose. He wanted to insert an implant there. I am so glad that I didn't let myself be further unsettled by him, as he strongly insisted, especially when I now hear from you (an absolute professional) how difficult this surgery is and how such minor issues often occur. OH MY GOSH!?! All this time I thought I was the only one who couldn't look at Orlando Bloom the same, again! Like you, the paddle boat incident, will forever be what flashes across my minds eye when I hear his name. I glad no sharks decided to take the "bait" he left dangling that day. 🤣🤣🤣

Honestly I’m still debating if getting corrections done to my breast reduction surgery would be worth the time I would be out and I have just been feeling so good watching botched knowing I could get fixed one day. My skin itches all the time because the shape now pulls allot from the top to the nips that is facing sky. I was so excited for the reduction and feel so ignored now I’m stuck with boos that still feel to big and not shaped right.

@@idk-wd3ht the only Dow side is the down time needed for healing and the first go around left me not sure if it’s going to be as painful to get the correction because it felt like I was being stabbed in my armpits with a hot knife most of my recovery and I go so ignored about it

It doesn’t hurt to go for a consult at a few places and see which surgeon can help. It would also be good to see photos of patients who have also had breast reduction surgery. Best of luck!

get coloured contacts! i have super blue eyes and i’m one of the i think 89% of people who because our eye colour is so light we’re extra sensitive to light, more prone to migraines, lazy eye (i have lazy eye) weak eye muscles, blindness at an early age, ect ect. coloured contacts are painless and look super natural if you get a good pair and put them in properly! i’m sure you have beautiful eyes tho, i think eyes are like fingerprints they all have beautiful unique patterns if you look close enough

Professional makeup can do so much to change the look of a persons face. Maybe he can look into that and learn how to do it for himself instead of having more surgery on the nose and not be able to breathe.

This guy doesn't need a plastic surgeon. He needs a psychiatrist. Where I would draw the line on plastic surgery is correcting defects. A cleft palate, damage from an accident, etc. Basically, to correct abnormalities. I'm not a big fan of it for frivolous, or in this case insane, reasons.

Hi Dr Youn! I switched over to your skin care regiment, and LOVE IT! I was wondering if you could help me out with one more skin concern! I had a pretty extensive wisdom tooth extraction back in February and mid healing I ended up with a really bad perioral dermatitis infection. I did a 30 day round of doxycycline which cleared it up, but now I get little flare up. Can you make a video on tips to prevent flare ups?

I cannot read a lot of things anymore. My only joy in life was actually being with my guide dogs and they truly were the only thing that brought me out of my darkness.

I always say that more should go into the process to making the decision for plastic surgery, because again, if you aren't happy with yourself you should really have a professional there to make sure these are decisions you want to make, or even if it's a decision you need to make. Especilly if it's something literally nobody will recommend to you!
