    Love that shit. And the fact that u could do it on real acoustic drums is insane. Mad props.

    Great job. He is using a tracker to do this and some of the buzzes and rolls are preset FX on the tracker, it sort of does it for you. He seems to mix acoustic and electric because there is an electric sub going crazy sliding all over the place with the kick.

      Totally! Fun challenge to try to replicate electronic sounds and phrasing with acoustic drums.

    Hey! For the double cross hi hat technique on loop 3 - can you please clarify how exactly you played this? That part's a little bit tricky and I'm not picking it by ear. Great video though!

    • @JacobWutzke
      @JacobWutzke  3 роки тому +4

      Hello! Probably the easiest way to think about it is to close the hi hat with your foot on the 8th notes ( 2+, 3, 3+, 4, 4+, 1 in this case), and play a quick double stroke in between each note on the 16th note offbeat. You can use different techniques to play the double strokes, and the technique might change depending on the speed. I'm using a combination of wrist, fingers and bounce here. Hope that helps!

    Very good transcription apart from a few places but pretty good adaptation. It`s indeed more difficult to play than it looks at first. I tried it without rimshots and for me it sound a bit better. Check Gerwin Eisenhauer if you like this style adapted for drums.

      @JacobWutzke  3 роки тому +2

      Hahahaha! It's funny that you'd say that. I remember hearing it for the first time, thinking it was called "film", and not being able to find it again for at least a year. You're not alone...

    • @orpheuscreativeco9236
      @orpheuscreativeco9236 6 місяців тому +1

      I think it's a tongue in cheek way of saying film, possibly mocking or adoring the way that someone said/says film. 🤷 I could be wrong. He does have an album called Drukqs (drugs) and a song called Xtal (crystal), not to mention several other slight misspellings or interpretations of a word. Just a hunch really.

    The idea of playing something note for note on drum set that was composed on a drum machine isn't something that appeals to me. Part of being a drummer is to do your own thing. Well, at least for me it is. The Bad Plus version of this is a good example. I find that more impressive.

    • @JacobWutzke
      @JacobWutzke  3 роки тому +8

      Interesting. I don’t disagree that part of the role of a drummer is to play with natural human variations and feel. And I love the Bad Plus version of the song too. But in the case of this, the reason I wanted to learn this in the first place is because I thought that the phrasing was really natural, and also a great technical challenge. Beats that are programmed on a drum machine don’t necessarily have to accommodate for the challenges of playing an actual drum set (stickings, resonance of the drums, speed, etc), so you need to make adaptations in order to play them as closely as possible. I had a great time learning this and I think Aphex Twin knows how to program amazing, musical drums whether they’re electronic or not.
      I also can’t help but wonder if the idea of playing something note for note, without variation, perfectly in time, in the middle of the beat, is a skill that is worth having in 2021. So much music on the radio has the drums sounding that way, whether we like it or not. I’m all for having your own style and feel, but I don’t know that it’s fair to say that learning something machine-made is somehow less impressive. I’m curious to know what you think here, let me know! And don’t hesitate to watch some of my other transcriptions which are all of real drummers :)

    • @alanduncan1980
      @alanduncan1980 3 роки тому

      @@JacobWutzke I can dig it. I ain't knocking it. There's much to be learned from this drum track. I guess what I'm saying is the track is just too busy. It's probably easier to just do your own take on it. That's what I would do. If someone told me I had to play this track tomorrow I wouldn't even attempt to play it like how it is on the record. I'd do a version of it. But I liked what you did. I thought it was way cool.

    try slapping a compressor or limiter over your video at the end. your voice is too quiet and drums are too loud. otherwise awesome video.
