This is truly impressive. When Aphex Twin produced Flim in 1997 he made that track with drum machines and computers, it was not played live like this. To be this perfect for such difficult drum patterns that were made with drum machines......I'm speechless, this was just perfection.
6Ft Beats what makes you say that? I think it sounds like he used a music tracker. He has posted a video of him producing with one before, also. On Vimeo, check it out.
@@TheMAU5SoundsLikThis how does it being created with a tracker mean it cant have breaks? have you listened to drukqs??? And I'm a bit skeptical of this being made in a tracker, who knows though
This is just astounding. This drum part is basically through-composed. Not a single repeated bar, and that's to say nothing of technical difficulties. Incredible.
When I clicked on your video, I was convinced that it was going to be the kind of drum cover where the drummer rushes to fit all of the beats in at the right time, at the expense of the feel of the song. But man was I wrong. You're hitting everything perfectly, and yet the song still sounds smooth and chilled. Very well done.
Kinda hilarious that one of gold medalists of drums is a bored blindfolded nerd from a decade ago. This is just perfect. I am amazed everytime the algo reshows it.
Oh yea, I love the feel of the song exactly how it is so I aimed to match it accordingly. If you want to learn it, you definitely should! My left hand couldn't play this at first either, but if you practice it you can learn it. Try practicing at a slower tempo, slow enough to where it isn't even challenging..then slowly build up from there. Developing a solid muscle memory at slower tempos helps tons for when you do play faster.
Yolo Swag i really miss that feeling of something totally new and inexperienced. I tried dxm before I ever even smoked pot. But dxm and smoking bud while taking walks through the forest were so magical back then.
This is so insanely good i cant even put into words how well this drum part was written, and how impressive it is that you could even keep up with the crazy syncopation

Thanks! I just listen to whatever song or thing I'm trying to learn however many times it takes to memorize, all while analyzing the drum part. It makes things easy being able to put the "where I'm at in the song" thinking on autopilot when playing, then I'm free to just think about drum stuff, or pizza.

I think the cheat code is sort of in the title of the song. Flam is when a rhythmic note slightly overflows past perfect meter(anywhere from a few milliseconds to a more noticeable amount...which then approaches a "shuffle groove" I think. Ergo: flim is when a note is played slightly early. The tempo is constant in this song, yet it is sequenced with tempo slow down(and sample time stretching) on the drums, and some flim. The genius of this song was using the inverse of flam and treating it as a polyrhythm tool while doing tempo complete patterns and or perfectly sinuosoidal tempo variations on only the drums. The melody is a metronome.
To be fair, my explanation of flam is not most correct. The formal definition is a bit more complicated and involves playing 2 notes on the drums in succession so as to create a longer note. Somehow I stored a more individualized definition and understanding of the macro scale concept. Or I am just wrong.
