1) Flipping AND turning the clear plates between every cut keep plates from warping. People skip it, wanting to die cut quickly, and their plates warp. Crafters Companion has an old video about it. Do what she says! lol 2) Place dies all over the plate, not just in the center. That also helps keep plates flat. That was a hard habit for me to break. (Love my Gem Jr. and have a top plate that has hundreds and hundreds of cuts and it’s a flat pancake.) Enjoy!
At the last crop I went to, the woman across the table was using her Big Shot to cut a very intricate die. It took her over 20 minutes to cut and then punch out all the little pieces of paper to get just one cut and she needed 10. I used her die in my Gemini Jr and it took just about a minute to cut the die and most of the pieces of paper came out immediately. She said she was going to get a Gemini as soon as she could. I love mine, especially when I'm making multiple cards of the same design, it goes so much quicker.
I have the regular Gemini and LOVE IT. Yes, it is heavy but that weight is important as it is what allows the pressure you need to get the results you want. I have arthritis in my shoulders and hands and not having to crank &/or handle a manual machine has been sheer heaven for me. I've known some folks who put their Gemini Juniors on lazy susans so they can turn the machine which lives in a small corner area of their craft room. Food for thought if you need it. Also, each and every machine is different. What this means is that the sandwich 'adjustment' Maymay needs may not work for me. Don't ignore all those plates that came in the box, either! You will be amazed at what they do for you. Overall I have been astounded at the type and quality of the results I get and I have to say watching Maymay cut multiple layers of paper and a layer of chipboard in her machine was just icing on the cake.
Ohhhh May May you will Absolutely L💜VE your Gemini, I can't live without mine, I have the regular (8.5x11) plates & resently ordered & received the PRO (12x12) plates !!!!
Even if I am not a "regular" paper-crafter, I must say that this a fantastic demo !!! It's especially nice to try out "risky" stuff and warn the audience if it's a failure. 🙂
I am so glad you did this. I have been thinking about getting an electric machine but have hesitated because of the cost and all the sandwich plates. I use a manual die cutting machine which has a bottom plate and a top cutting plate. You just turn a know on the side to adjust the pressure. It is so easy to use and I would expect an electronic machine to have the same convenience. I have always felt that all these plates that you have to get and replace are just the company's way of upselling their product and making the crafter spend more money. I think I will wait for a machine that calibrates the pressure for me so it doesn't need all this messing around with plates.
I have problem with having strength in my hands and I got a Gemini for my Birthday and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I love crafting and was so pleased with the Gemni! I recommended the Gemni to everyone!
I have the big daddy Gemini and I love it. It takes a minute to get used to the sandwiches but once you do they stick with you. You can also play a round as you use different dies. There is nothing no one size fits all. The plates do warp but as others have said, rotate every time and you can always flatten them in hot water. I've had my Gemini for 3 years and still have the original plates. I like that I don't have to crank and as you say the pressure is brilliant. It also cuts fabric. It is a very versatile machine. Glad you've bought one. And live that the chipboard worked. Amazing. Never thought to try that. Brilliant. Xxxx
I wish I’d found this unboxing before I started using my Gemini junior. I should have definitely let you make the mistakes so I wouldn’t have too! I had the same issues with embossing folders. This helps so much! 28:37
Love my Gemini (I have regular but bought jr plates to use in it). You did a great demo. Thank you so much. Quick tip… put washi tape on edges of metal shim, they (at least mine for the regular Gemini) are pretty sharp. Easily can cut yourself if not careful but putting washi tape around it fixed that issue.
I gifted myself a Gemini junior for Christmas. Because it is heavy, I also bought a lazy Susan from Amazon that would fit it comfortably. This way, I don’t have to move it back and forth on my desk to use it… I can just give it a little spin and feed the sandwich from the “left side” and remove it from the “right side”. When I’m done, I just do a little spin again and it’s facing me and ready for next time. Thank you so much for the demos. I love your videos! I’m always learning something new from you and your team. God bless.
Dear Maymay, thank you for doing such a thorough review and trying the different combinations for embossing. I have been considering this machine for awhile now. Maybe I can put it on my birthday wish! 😊
I’ve had my Gemini jr for years. While everyone was loving the big Gemini which I have also, I was using my jr. I’m happy and Surprised it took others so long to get to it. I love that it’s portable. I have a small power pack to use with the jr while on the road. I keep it in my travel studio.
Hey Maymay, I don't have a Gemini but your video was very informative about the plates & the embossing folders. Which I found you did awesome in working out how to really use them. I wanted to let you know I love the wall behind you it looks great in the video.. Blessings to you and Vinny and the Crew ~ I love watching you all
I am watching this video for the 2 time, love it. I have the Gemini I have not used for embossing folders, which is why I went back to the video. Thank you, I was looking for the PDF for the sandwich plate, to use for doing projects? I wasn't sure if a PDF was made so I thought I would ask.
I have the Gemini Jr and the first thing that happened was my die got stuck, I eventually got it out. Since then every time I use it now I cringe!!! Your demonstration was excellent!!! My plates warp unless I turn them over each time I die cut. Also, my metal plate curled up like a taco!!!! I'm determined to use it because I have problems turning the hand crank machines. Thank you again.
Hi Maymay, I’ve used it for a long time. I loved your demo, you did a great job. I would like to make a suggestion that an extra set of plates is a good idea. I keep the set I emboss with separate from the ones that I cut with. That’s maybe just me but it works best for me. I will say that I have some dies even some from CC that don’t do as well no matter what I do layer wise. Overall I find that any of the different sizes are great and I use them all the time. I have arthritis and it’s made a big difference for me. They have amazing dies.
I wish you would have used colored paper so we could have seen the results better. Glad you did the demo as I have a Gemini Jr. that I have not used yet.
Thank you, MayMay for demonstrating the Gemini Jr. I have a crop friend that uses it at our crops, but I've never checked it out myself. I'm impressed!
You sold me, appreciate the demo and trouble shooting the embossing folder. I have frozen shoulder and haven't been able to use my cranking machines. Thank you so much !❤️
I have the original, the junior and the go. Good to see your trying it out...just watch some youtubes about plate care...very important. Gemini is a game changer
The embossing purple mat is used after you cut the die then remove the magnetic shim and place the purple rubber mat and it gives you the embossing from the die on the cut piece (once it’s cut)
I have the Gemini and it does work very well . But I forget the plate combos if I don’t use it frequently so a pdf would be most appreciated!!! I like your idea of placing it right on the machine. Thanks for this helpful video Maymay!
Thanks for doing this demo. I own the Gemini Junior I have been afraid to use it.... the instructions were much more clear hearing them from you. I will now use my Gemini Junior with confidence! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for explaining this i recently inherited a Gemini machine and have been struggling to find the best sandwiches. I'm loving the idea of putting a note on top of the sandwich to use xxxx
Hi Maymay, I loved that you did this review. I have a Gemini Junior and I love it for die cutting. I could never figure out the 2D embossing until you did this demo. Now I can emboss with my machine. Thank you for your persistence in getting it done. My machine lives on my desk and I used it regularly. I love my Gemini Junior!!! oh PS. The customer service at Crafter's Companion is excellent anytime you have a problem. I have had two separate issues in the past and they handled them with no problem and I was pleased with the outcome. Love them. Thanks again, Diane
I've had my Sizzix machine for years, and where I keep it on my desk, it's a pain to scoot it into a position where I can actually crank the handle (especially as I usually have 1 or 2 cats sitting right where I need to work). I'm thinking of asking for this for my birthday this summer. Thanks for a great demo and review!
I make a lot of cards and I developed carpel tunnel and had to do something so I went electric a few years ago - love it - would not go back - now I want the Crafter’s Companion Foil Press for the Gemini
I think I would store my plates in a small manilla folder with the sandwiches written on the outside of the envelope so that everything was together in one place with the needed info right there.
I have been trying to decide on this device and your video helped me. I have hand issues and cranking the dies through can be difficult. This video has helped me decide on getting one. I just didn’t want to spend the money, but think in the long run, it will help me. Thank you for your videos. God bless you guys.
Thanks for the great review! Curious how your machine is holding up? Any new ideas or thoughts? Also, can you show us some ideas in how to use your chipboard with this machine?
I broke down and bought another brand and so glad I did. If you have issues with yours hands mostly during winter this is a blessing.i may have to save it for the Gemini JR.
Angle your folder in your plates so that it takes smaller amounts of the folders go thru at the same time, it helps with noise. All of their dies have the required sandwich recommendations on the package
I have the Bigger Gemini with the 8 7/8 x 12 1/2 plates for large dies. I bought the Gemini Jr plates and run them through side ways for normal size dies and it cut the run time down. I didn't like how long it took for 1 pass with the larger plates. I like the magnetic plate because it keeps you die in place. I also have a Big Shot and Diamond Press. I use them all, the Gemini is best for intricate dies in my opinion. Thank you for the demo. huugs
I have the Gemini Jr and don’t know if it’s because I’m lazy and used to certain ways but I like the jr for die cutting struggle with everything else. Your review made so much sense to me. Thank you.
I've had my standard size Gemini for about a year now and haven't taken it out of the box yet. ;~( To be honest, I've not been doing any crafting, mostly computer work. Now that I've watched you, Maymay, perhaps I'll develop a desire to get back into crafting?! Guess I could do a little of both...to prepare some Christmas cards ahead of time ?! ?! ?! ?! ?!
Love my Gemini Jr. Put it on a small lazy Susan, then you can just turn it slightly to grab the plates coming out and you don’t need much room behind it.
I have been using the Gemini machine a few years my favorite is the Gemini Pro it takes 12x12 plates and 12x18 plates I can cut many items at once. I use mine a lot for quilting I use the multimedia dies and cut 6-8 layers at once. They now have fabric metal plates that Don’t warp as long as you follow the directions. Love love love those plates. I have the sandwiches on one of the Geminis It helps. They save time. They are awesome on the intricate dies.
The arthritis in my hands is so bad using myBig Shot. I received a Gemini Jr. from a secret friend 3 years ago. I love it and keep it on my desk. Yes I would love the pdf. Thanks for this awesome demo Maymay. Hugs and blessings.
Thanks for sharing the demo. I have both the original and jr. versions. Tend to use jr. more. Like you, embossing won't work with their suggested sandwich. I would love to have a list of the sandwiches to attach to my machine. Overall, great product and equally great customer service.
I have a Gemini Kr. and the larger one. For 3D embossing and cutting multiple layers, it’s great. It sits on my desk for easy use. I love that it cuts fabric, as I make quilts. There are does that cut quilt pieces.
I have a Gemini Jr. and love it. A con for me is the magnetic shim flattened and “stretched” out of shape and I found it doesn’t take a lot of use for that to happen. Which brings me to my question, will you carry replacement plates etc. for the Gemini Jr.?
I love mine but you have to figure out all your sandwiches. But once you do it’s great. I didn’t know about the multi media dies that came with it. I didn’t realize that you could cut all those layers. So this was a big help for me.
Hello Maymay, I don’t have a cc Gemini but I do have the Anna Griffin empress machines and I have used all sorts of brands of embossing folders and dies and have never had any problems with any of them. They all work well and the plates are a lot simpler and less complicated . Thank you for the video.
I have 2 Geminis. I have the Jr. and the regular. The Customer service at Crafter's Companion is exceptional. I got the plates and dies stuck in my Jr. I called Customer service and they helped me get them out while on the phone. I only had to push one button on the top and hold it for a few minutes and it started to come out. I really can;t say enough good things about the Gemini. For embossing 2D you're on the right track. I use paper shims and they work great. Enjoy your Gemini.
Thanks for doing the demo, Maymay. I bought my Gemini Jr. a couple of years ago and love it. I still use my Big Shot for most of my 2D embossing folders that I own; however, I use my Gemini Jr. mainly for die cutting. I seem to enjoy doing die cutting more, so it's a workhorse for me. Also, it goes hand-in-hand with the Gemini Foiling machine, which is also a plus.
I am IN!! Gonna get one of these. I have hand issues from nerve damage caused by a neck injury. So sometimes die cutting is a big pain and I can't do it with some dies. I have a sizzix big shot. Mostly it does a good job but the directions were complicated and I can only emboss with 1 folder successfully. I only have 4 but still...not being able to use the other 3 is frustrating. I'd have not considered getting an electric die cutter earlier but these days, I think it's a good idea and you taking the time to show us msans a lot; I feel I can make a good decision in choosing this one. Thank you!!!
I really love mine I have never regretted buying it I haven't used mine for embossing folders before, but this video makes me want to try it thank you I have mine in a small space so it's on a turn table so I can let the plates go through easily, I do flip mu plate and run everything through on an angle to keep my plate from warping it works great.
I have the regular Gemini and the Gemini go, I really like them but the plates wear out very fast and are expensive to replace so I went back to my sizzics big shot. Wish the plates lasted longer
I have the Gemini jr, sr and the Gemini pro and the Gemini go, electric machines, I also have the manual machines, the Gemini mini and the Gemini midi. They all work great. Even the manual machines have a lot of pressure. I also have the crafters companion foil press and both size platforms for jr and sr machines. They all make noise but that does not bother me at all. That one die is an edgable
I love my Gemini Jr. I want to get a lazy susan to put it on so I don't have to stand up to get out the plates . It sits on my crafting space and I love the small footprint. I don't use it all that often but love the automatic take up and not having to crank my Cuttlebug. It was a bit pricey, but...
i just watched this and it was very helpful. Maybe I missed it but what is the sandwich for the thick 3D folders? I just bought my Gemini and don't want to warp my plates right out of the gate. I love your videos. I've seen a few and I'm always pausing and writing down the information. Thank You. Kim
HI, this is the sandwich we use, you may want to try the recommended one first, thanks Plastic shim~~3D folder with material inside~~ magnetic shim~~ clear cutting plate
Maymay, great video. This is a great way to decide what your needs are. Thanks for doing this for us. I was just saying to my husband that I wanted to get a Gemini machine. What’s the difference in jr. and regular machine
This is the best demonstration of the Gemini Jr. that I have seen. I have a Gemini Jr and even learned some things. Great video Maymay and Shannon.
1) Flipping AND turning the clear plates between every cut keep plates from warping. People skip it, wanting to die cut quickly, and their plates warp. Crafters Companion has an old video about it. Do what she says! lol
2) Place dies all over the plate, not just in the center. That also helps keep plates flat. That was a hard habit for me to break.
(Love my Gem Jr. and have a top plate that has hundreds and hundreds of cuts and it’s a flat pancake.) Enjoy!

Good morning after months of waiting to play with mine I finally got a chance this morning and the result is Wow amazing love it
I have the regular Gemini and LOVE IT. Yes, it is heavy but that weight is important as it is what allows the pressure you need to get the results you want. I have arthritis in my shoulders and hands and not having to crank &/or handle a manual machine has been sheer heaven for me.
I just got that for my Birthday in March and watching your video is very helpful May May Thank you
Ohhhh May May you will Absolutely
L💜VE your Gemini, I can't live without mine, I have the regular (8.5x11) plates & resently ordered & received the PRO (12x12) plates !!!!

Thank you! I was just gifted a slightly used Gem/Jr. I had no idea how to use it. 😉 your video was very helpful. Hugs ❤️❤️❤️
I really like how you explain through and through thank you so much very helpful!
I wish I’d found this unboxing before I started using my Gemini junior. I should have definitely let you make the mistakes so I wouldn’t have too! I had the same issues with embossing folders. This helps so much! 28:37
Great review. I just picked up a brand new one for $50 at our local materials co-op!
Yes! Thank you for the PDF!

Thank you for doing this video. I am primarily looking for an embossing machine.
This was brilliant! Really in depth and thorough! Plus, you did it so I don’t have to (I’d be too nervous, lol!)
I love Crafter's Companion! I am happy to see that you are now putting some CC items in your store.
Thank you MayMay and Shannon - very helpful. I appreciate this very much. Have a wonderful day.
When embossing I always spritz water on the paper. It helps break the fibers.
Love my Gemini Jr.
I have just ordered it , so thank you .
I've had one for a few years and love it - my old body loves it - I don't emboss much but for cutting it's fabulous. Worth the money.
Dear Maymay, thank you for doing such a thorough review and trying the different combinations for embossing. I have been considering this machine for awhile now. Maybe I can put it on my birthday wish! 😊
Hi Maymay, a work around for the con of the heaviness- put it on a lazy Susan and then you can move with ease.
I’ve had my Gemini jr for years. While everyone was loving the big Gemini which I have also, I was using my jr. I’m happy and Surprised it took others so long to get to it. I love that it’s portable. I have a small power pack to use with the jr while on the road. I keep it in my travel studio.
I have the larger Gemini. Best purchase ever.
Hey Maymay, I don't have a Gemini but your video was very informative about the plates & the embossing folders. Which I found you did awesome in working out how to really use them. I have the JR. And the larger one and I like using the JR Berger!
I have frozen shoulder too! It is a pain, literally and figuratively, when crafting.

I love, love, love my Gemini Jr!

Thank you so much for explaining this i recently inherited a Gemini machine and have been struggling to find the best sandwiches. I'm loving the idea of putting a note on top of the sandwich to use xxxx
The lacy dies are made to use on edges. very neat.
Hi Maymay, I loved that you did this review. I have a Gemini Junior and I love it for die cutting. I could never figure out the 2D embossing until you did this demo. Now I can emboss with my machine. I use a piece of copy paper on the outside of the embossing folder and run it through. Works perfect.
Great video!! I have a Gemini and love it! It cuts chipboard so easily!!! I couldn’t craft without mine!
I make a lot of cards and I developed carpel tunnel and had to do something so I went electric a few years ago - love it - would not go back - now I want the Crafter’s Companion Foil Press for the Gemini
I’ve been eyeing this up for a long while… thank you for showing it the way you do! This was so very helpful!
Would love you carrying Crafter's Companion dies in your store

I have the Gemini pro. I upgraded from the regular Gemini. I love mine, I have a bad shoulder and it is hard to crank a manual machine.
I have the A4 Gemini and I love it. I bought it to replace my electric Big Shot and I have always had Big Shots but I am so happy with my Gemini.
Angle your folder in your plates so that it takes smaller amounts of the folders go thru at the same time, it helps with noise. All of their dies have the required sandwich recommendations on the package
I have a Gemini Junior and I love it.
Once you get use to the right shims you will love it.I would never get rid of mine.
I have a full size Gemini and use the junior plates, love it! I have the sandwich options taped to the top for ease.
I will certainly consider this.
I have the gemini Jr and full size. I love love them. However thanks maymay for figuring out the sandwich for the embossing folder.
I have been using the Gemini machine a few years my favorite is the Gemini Pro it takes 12x12 plates and 12x18 plates I can cut many items at once.
Thanks much for the great demo!! You explain everything great! I love my Gemini, hand issues prevent me from using Big Shot any longer. Thanks again!
I have the Gemini Jr. and enjoy it. I have never been able to figure out a sandwich to die cut through acetate? Have you tried that.
Suggest you keep a do not cut plate
FYI- many crafters put their Gemini on a lazy Susan to swivel the machine around to grab the die easier
Just got mine today. Hoping it works out well for me. Thanks for this video!
Love my Gemini Junior! So easy to use and I don't have to crank!
I use my Big Shot to emboss. But I love my Gemini for die cuttin!
I would love to have a pdf. Thank you for the very entertaining demo.
I prefer the Gemini Junior: no cranking, easy sandwiching, great results!
I have 3 out of the 5 and love them. I like to use junior cutting plates on the regular machine. I don’t have the go or the new beast one.
I love my big Gemini, I write in my book the sandwich & if any shims which I store the manual under the machine., Great video
i just watched this and it was very helpful. Maybe I missed it but what is the sandwich for the thick 3D folders? I just bought my Gemini and don't want to warp my plates right out of the gate. I love your videos. I've seen a few and I'm always pausing and writing down the information. Thank You. Kim
HI, this is the sandwich we use, you may want to try the recommended one first, thanks
Plastic shim~~3D folder with material inside~~ magnetic shim~~ clear cutting plate
Maymay, great video. This is a great way to decide what your needs are. Thanks for doing this for us. I was just saying to my husband that I wanted to get a Gemini machine. What’s the difference in jr. and regular
machine
