I had to stop the vid at 43:19 because of the other subscribers whining about you going off topic and for apparently not being ready when you start to record. I personally like your style because it's you. If it wasn't you then there would be so many jump cuts to make it "look professional" I've been a subscriber since your previous channel that got taken down because of reviewing copy cat dies. I recall all the emails you shared w/ us about that situation. You had a very active channel w/ giveaways, cooking, soap making, knitting, nails, daiso and everything inbetween hauls and now gardening. Don't change because people or maybe Linda is whining. I prefer this chill personal version then some too overly processed UA-camr.
Wow, that is a long time viewership! I really appreciate it. Your comment was so kind and encouraging, TY!! I began my channel bc I was so tired of "this is exactly how to do it and BE PERFECT editing!" Only music, no explaining...or completely ridiculous budgets to make one card. LOL! Do I wish I had better lighting and better recording skills, sure...but I am just me and my angle is being just you at home. (:
I’m glad I found your channel because you are the only crafter giving honest feedback on these machines. I’m struggling deciding between the Gemini & the Anna Griffin because of the size opening but I don’t think it really matters. Also, I’ve read a lot of reviews complaining the Gemini warps the plates too fast & it’s expensive to replace. I have the Bigshot & it’s really hurts my hands so I want an electronic machine. But which one???? I think I’m going to buy the Anna Griffin. It’s prettier, which shouldn’t even matter 🙄 & it’s quiet. Do you think I’m making the right choice? Thank you for all of your info & opinions.
I have a large Gemini, which I have not had that long, less than a year maybe. Well it broke yesterday, and I am really sad. I am going to replace it with a Sizzix Big Shot Plus. It is wide. My other Big Shot has been around for many years and I have never had a problem with it. I have a small Gemini, and it works fine so I hope it lasts for a while.
I have a Sidekick, bought in 2019, and I use my regular steel dies. Works perfectly. I also have a Big Shot and have used it since about 2008. Love it. Easy to use. I have almost all extra plates and such.
I absolutely love my big shot and all of the accessories are still available from Sizzix. I have large and small multipurpose platforms. All dies from all companies old and new work EXCEPT the new crafters companion double-sided dies (so long as it fits the 6 1/2 inch opening). The BEST accessory is the chrome precision base plate so intricate dies cut easily. I have heard the Big Shot Plus (with a wider opening/platform) is difficult to use because cranking (turning the handle) the larger parts takes a LOT of physical power.
I've been subscribed for a long time, one of the reasons is because you ARE personal. Even if it's a craft I don't plan on doing, I'll put your video on while I'm crafting to have your voice in the background. Not to be "cliche" but you KEEP IT REAL, & I think most viewers can appreciate that. So thanks for all you do, Dios te bendiga.
Can’t believe you never use the big shot. It’s a great machine. Work horse. I have that same machine you have. I loved it from the time I unboxed it. All these years later it still works great and I have really used it a lot.
Everyone is raving, has been raving, about the Big Shot. That's great to hear, I just never got into it. I guess I now will get into it...I have no choice. LOL!!
I’m a Stampin Up demonstrator and we had the Big Shot from Sizzix but Stampin Up is no longer selling the Big Shot, they are coming out with a new machine. Isn’t it amazing the things that we think we just have to have. I’m in the process of trying to decide what kind of foiling equipment I want to spent the money on. I do love my cuttlebug. Love watching your reviews and comparisons. I love your videos no matter what you are talking about, I enjoy hearing about your life. TYFS. Take Care. Stay Safe. ~Barbara
This is a few years old, but have you tried the adjustable Gina K Intricut machine? I absolutely love mine! I have used it almost every day for 2 months with no complaints. I hope she adds a larger one for the 6+" dies. It does it all without ruining the platform or cutting plate.
Anyone have suggestions for finding replacement pads for the cuttlebug? I found a machine but it has no plates and I want to make sure I get what I need to get started with using it. Thanks!
I love my golden Cuttlebug! I use it EVERYDAY and it's been working non stop since 2012 and it's still working so fantastic. I emboss and cut EVERYTHING with the Cuttlebug and there has not been even one die that I couldn't cut with the Cuttlebug. Last year, I bought the Big Shot because I had a few dies and embossing folders that were wider than the size of the Cuttlebug, so I use the machine to for these dies and folders. But for everyday use, I use the cuttlebug and it is so amazing. Do you think they will stop making the plates for the Cuttlebug?
Wow! This is the 1st time I've seen any of your videos. I truly appreciate all the information you shared. I haven't been crafting for long, maybe a year. I have purchased a diamond press, cricut and a gemini II. I use the diamond press & gemini II. Not really a fan of the cricut. Maybe one day I'll give it another try. I love making cards. So to learn more I enjoy watching videos. I came across washi tape recently. I love what you can do with it. I don't want to go on and on but I'm learning to use embossing powder and I don't have many ink pads. I have to do some homework on what's the best etc......do you have any ideas or what do you find that works the best? Thanks again Vianney. Take care.
Thanks, I was debating about the Gemini Mini and decided against. I appreciated your ruler method to show how wide the folders were (to go through the opening). I'll stick with my Sidekick since there was only a 1/2 inch difference.
I love the Big Shot. I have had mine for many years and use it for everything. The hinged plate system is great. Each shim is printed with exactly what it is used for: embossing folders, wafer dies, etc. no having to guess. The electric machines are too expensive. The Gemini is too noisy but the Empress is quieter..Also wouldn't want to have to play around guessing what "sandwich" to use.
Sorry to hear you got some type of negative comments from “Linda”! I don’t understand why people need to leave negative comments. If you don’t like a channel you can simple quit watching. I really like your style of videos and your personality. I was happy to see your channel come back after your other channel was shut down. Keep up the good work😊😊!
That is so kind, thanks so much!!! It's crazy to me, I have never left a person a mean comment on their videos or even a thumbs down. Who has the time or energy for that kind of thing. (:
VianneyCreates I agree! It’s easier to be kind. I remember that saying “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. I enjoy how you keep it real. Hope you feel better soon😊
I agree! I don’t find that she wanders... I love VianneyCreates, my mind follows right also great with hers, maybe it’s a Crafter’s wander - when I find a channel I don’t care for, I don’t subscribe or like but I don’t unlike! People are entitled to their opinions and I am not the UA-cam police, I just don’t visit anymore. Simple concept.
The older Sidekick machines take the new plates because they are thicker. The old machine needs a special plate/shim. The new plates are $3.99 at Hobby Lobby and often on sale.
Thanks for sharing this video, i bought the Evolution, but right off the dial system did not budge at all & it was extremely hard to try to open the drawers, especially if you have weak wrists or fingers & the suctions cups didn't work, also i expected it in the silvery gray & it was white, well that was the least of my worries, but it surely had it's issues so i returned it, then i bought the machine called Nurxiovo from Amazon, it stated it was a diecutter/embosser & that it had suction cups, well there were no suction cups included & it couldn't do any embossing without some other type of mat or pad, that wasn't even included, what i did like about this one, was the drawers opened very easily & they were deep, the handle was flexible to turn in on itself to not be sticking outward, it did great die cutting & offered great freebies, but the description of this machine was not truthful, i want one with suction cups, this is the only reason why i didn't buy the Spellbinders machine. So i decided on trying out an older design called the Accucut Zip eMATE, i got one still brandnew on eBay, so far i'm having many issues with this one as well, i hope to figure it out, i do want to keep this one, just not much helpful info on it, as it's virtually unheard of. So tomorrow i plan on calling the company that sold it, but now they aren't even selling these anymore, i hope i get this one figured out. I know i'll be getting quite frustrated i just wish i could find one that is truthful in their descriptions & has easier instructions, is there any chance that you'd be willing to sell any of yours, if so please let me know, thanks & stay safe.
If some folks don't like people's content, why can't they just move on?!? I for one, love your channel and find it lots of fun and informative. Been here from your original channel. You explain things very well and I really enjoy watching what you put together, whether its crafty or food related. I also enjoy your haul videos (I'm so jealous there is no Daiso in the East coast!) I have and use frequently, the little red sizzix sidekick. You need to have the teal (clear teal) plates to use metal dies. I also have and use the big shot but generally for dies that won't fit in to the sidekick. Still have the green cuttlebug and original red sizzix too, but they are stored away. Keep up the great content!
Thanks so much! I have never commented on someone's video other than to say something nice, never even a thumbs down. Like, for what? What does that do for a person? Nothing. (: Anyways, thanks for the encouragement and the tips on the Sidekick. I grabbed the plates that were visible, I have it all stored in that cute white carry bag with polka dots that they sold for a while. I probably have the appropriate plates in there somewhere. TY!!
I realize this is from over a year ago, but I just found your channel, and I’ve been binge watching you. Apparently some people don’t like your style, but I think you are adorable! 🥰 I am curious how you store so many machines! Do you keep them in their box? If not, how do you keep the different plates and such straight? I mean, what goes with what. My first machine was the cuttlebug, but I sold it when I bought the Big Shot. I just didn’t have room for both. My daughter bought me a Cricut Explore Air 2 last year, but we share it, so it’s only in my house some of the time. I kind of wish I still had the Cuttlebug as well, but space..... I very much enjoyed your review of the different machines.
I have the Texture Boutique. Tho not recommended, I use it with dies, as well (several how-to videos on YT). No problems, so far and it suits my needs. I already had an computerized cutter and just needed an embosser (plus I have some free dies). The right size for card making, IMO. And only $21 last year. Just an FYI for those who are starting out.
How many die cutting machine have you bought over the years ,which are you favourites & which have gathered dust unloved? I've never used my Cuttlebug,TODO & my Gemini junior has yet to be tried because of the fear of ever warping plates.
Countless, all of the ones you saw here plus two other Cuttlebugs, one other Diamond Press, several Cricuts, and the Pazzles when it first came out. The only one that really gathered dust is the Big Shot...oh, and the Epic 6. You will love the Junior if you get around to using it. I use mine almost every day, and only the magnetic mat has gotten destroyed! (;
You have until January to return the mini Gemini and if you like the Diamond press with the bigger opening, I think I will wait to see how big the opening is on the diamond press
GIRL your style of video's are awesome!!!! any and all negative naysayers can view LOTS of other such perfect videos, all they need to do is click.. I have yet to see one that is perfect. Now please remember that we value the videos you create and reviews you do and LOVE to hear about your family. After all you do have life beyond you-tube. I feel like I spend time with a crafty friend when I watch your videos. Keep them coming just the way YOU do. Have a blessed day.
Thank you so much, Peg! I really appreciate the encouragement. I don't think it's genuine or right to only record "perfect" shots. There are items I review that may not have clear instructions, may have pitfalls, etc...I don't mind showing what those are if I come across them. I don't think that's dissing the item in any way, and I'm not paid to fake what I think. LOL! It's just being real, and I hope that helps folks at home. I'm not an expert but been around the block enough to offer insight, if people want to hear it. Luckily, I have a great subscriber pool! (:
I have the Gemini Junior and Go, I only used the metal shim once as I found it added too much pressure to the die cut and plates but that's in my machine. I also have the Big Shot Plus and Big shot (which i love) Calibur (which i hate!) Cuttlebug (which i never use) and the small spellbinders machine (which is OK) I use a power bank for my Gemini Go but it slows it right down! I love your channel and have followed you from your previous one, I love your style, your friendly attitude and your reviews, don't ever change. As many people below have said, if someone doesn't like it? - MOVE ON! Thank you for all you do. XXXX
CC says all of the time "depending on your individual machine's pressure..." Some need the extra shimming, some don't. I find with my Jr I always use the metal shim. Great assortment of machines you have! Thanks so much for your encouragement!!
The new Sidekick has an Embossing Grey plate ... the tim holt one I have and it’s Great it take the longer plates which are 13 In I love it to take long embossing folders like bookmark size
I have watched this video several times n I enjoy it every time.. I love your way of sharing personal photos n your life. It’s boring to me watching just hum drum videos. You treat us family n I thank you for that.
I like how you present! Don't worry about anybody else and what they say. Everyone responds to people differently. Continue to be yourself. Thanks for sharing.
I have two big shots. First one is five ( black with pink flower ) or more years old and works great then I have the big shot plus which bigger dies can be used in it. I now use it most of the time. I love both. Both are great machines. I would get the biggest opening in a machine because they work with all dies. Also magnetic platform is great item to have for each.
I just watched a Stephanie Barnard video earlier today to see about the cutting sandwiches, and she had that big boy sitting on her table. She usually uses the Big Shot. It looks like an awesome tool bc you can basically put anything on it! Thanks for the magnetic mat tip.
I enjoy all of your content and whatever you decide to talk about but what I am most thankful for is the fact that you let us know about everything including how the crafterscompanion gemini machines work only with its own cord and that is a major plus and must know, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!❤
Right? My gal that told me about it on here lives in a foreign country...and she knew! LOL! I just googled "cuttlebug discontinued" and found all kinds of press releases about it.
I have several sets of plates, so haven't been looking. Since another gal here said she couldn't find B plates...I looked it up...and I can't find them anywhere, either.
I can’t find B plates. What a shame to think my entire machine will be useless after my current plates are used up. I’ve only had my machine for a short time. Well at least I know now and can enjoy it while it lasts. Thanks again for letting us know! Great machine review by the way!
Now it all makes sense. Cuttlebug used to make an extra long A and B plate along with the extra long magnetic shims. I bought a set and went to buy another set just to have an extra set and couldn't find them anywhere!! Now I'm hearing they're getting rid of the machine altogether and I just bought mine like last year. How awful!
I like the Sizzix Big Shot because those tabs automatically tell you what they cut/emboss (the sandwitch)--no guesswork as in cricut or other machines. The BigShot will cut/emboss chipboard, leather, metal blanks. You can use the Bigz dies without the platform and just the cutting plates. (I also have Cricut, Empress, and Gemini Jr.) I've starting using my Anna Griffith dies with Empress and everything else with Gemini, Jr.; Sizzix for materials like leather and aluminum or jewelry blanks.
Home depot sells acrylic squares different thickness you maybe able to use as plates. Have had a cuttlebug for years dont like using my cricut as well sad...have big shot plus and original vagabond. Tim Holtz still makes steel rue dies the thick ones.
That's a great idea, I'm sure someone has a video out there on getting plates cut. I totally fogger they call them "Bigz" dies now. I like going to the Scrapbook Expos for that reason, they sell tons of Bigz designs. It's nice to see them in real life, and buy them that way.
I have the cricut expression too with several cartridges. I used to use it a lot until my gypsy broke... The famous blue light syndrome. I still have it and got the air expression 2 which also takes cartridges it looks like, but haven't used that part. I used it to make and address wedding invitation envelopes with the help from someone who had a cricut group on Facebook. That was great.. I feel like I go back and forth in the die cut machines in adhoc projects. I need to put up shelves I think to get them off my work areas.
Right? My Gypsy still works, thank goodness. I guess they stopped supporting it because you can now do the same stuff and more in their "craft room." I just don't like using computers for these machines. Maybe the iPad, but haven't even done that. LOL!!
Hi Vianney, I am looking at getting a bigger die cutting machine for my bigger dies that i cant cut in my diamond press marquise. i would like to get an electric one as i have an idea over time i wont like a hand crank one. Now that you have had yours for awhile, is there one you would suggest more than the other for intricate die cutting and embossing? it looks like you have never owned the Vagabond, is there a reason for this? Thanks for feedback, i really appreciate it! Really enjoy watching your videos, they give me a lot of ideas and want me to try lots of different techniques!! Thanks again!
Hi! So, the Gemini Junior is really my go to...but it has limitations on size, as does the Anna Griffin Empress. However, the Empress has optional larger cutting plates where the Junior doesn't. To me, those two machines work just as well but the Empress gives the option of cutting larger dies without an even larger machine. I hope that makes sense. I never bought the Vagabond bc I just never needed it. I stuck with the Cuttlebug and picked up a Big Shot one time bc it was like $50. Never really used it.
I appreciated the info you gave on capacity etc. But which machines does the paper fall out easily without a bunch of picking? Also can the machines that just do the folders handle intricate dies?
I think that is hard to answer bc if you have a junky die...it's not the machine's fault if it cut well or not. Does that make sense? It really just depends on shimming and the die. My Marquise always cuts everything like butter and it is an inexpensive folder type machine (obvi, that machine wasn't in this video bc it just came out recently).
@@VianneyCreates Thanks, I think I'll get a Marquise. How can I avoid buying a junky die? or even telling which ones are junky? Good brands vs bad ones?
Does anyone’s empress just stop in the middle of a cut pass? It isn’t even a thick sandwich. Please let me know. It’s not even a year old so I hope they honor the warranty. Thanks!
Vinnay or any crafter: I bought an Anna Griffin mini, manual die cut machine. I picked this one because of the reviews on HSN and everyones claims that the machine stays stuck to the surface during use. I have only used it a week and found that no matter what surface, I have to reattach it to the surface after I do each cut. I thought it would stay put until I released it....like it should. Does yours do the same? I got this one so I could show die cutting to my grandchildren Thought it would be better than showing them on the electric machines in case they wanted to try. I'm very disappointed to find it doesn't stay stuck to any surface...even a glass matt. I hate to return it when I was so excited to use it with my grandchildren. If everybody else has the same issue, then I will return. I guess I could see if it came unsuctioned after a couple uses....but not after each use.
I have the Sizzix big shot and Anna Griffin Empress. If you have any of thicker dies, you'll need something like the big shot. I like the Empress however, the white mat is only good for around 100-110 cuts (11.00) and the black mat cuts around 120-125 pieces (16.00) not sure the price difference is worth it. The mats will eventually distort and won't cut fancier dies.
Great review! ♥ I remember you from the last channel that you had and wondered what happened to you. So glad UA-cam's weird algorithm suggested this new channel! 🙌 I have a Big Shot, Vagabond, Silhouette Cameo & Portrait and the Gemini original and was previously looking for a smaller manual die cutter. I think what I'm going to do is just use smaller cutting plates on the Big Shot and Vagabond. I was blessed enough to find the Gemini at Tuesday Morning for 150$ last year but have yet to use it. I did order the Gemini Junior plates to use in it so I don't have to worry about the smaller dies. Right now I'm looking for another die cutting machine that's electric like Teresa Collins cut'n'emboss machine but updated to have the same features as the Gemini. I really appreciate the chit chat because I learn so much more. Thanks for taking the time to make this fabulous video and never mind the naysayers! They need to get a life. 😉
Thanks so very much!! I love the Gemini Junior, I don't use the Gemini enough bc it's bigger and tucked away...but I'm sure it's just as awesome or better!! (:
Thanks so much for this! I ve been following you for a couple months now. I really enjoy your videos. Your great at it! I’m thankful for the knowledge you are sharing. I’ve been researching which die-cut machine would be best. I am also grateful you told us about the Cricut joy. I was going to get one, I still might . I’ll just wait for them to work out the kinks first. Lol I’m on a tight budget (especially now, Coronavirus) but paper craft is my happy place. Thanks again for this. Excited to catch up on the rest of your videos. Stay safe and healthy. Your work is fabulous!
@@VianneyCreates The bigshot is a major work horse...I love mine for many things. I also have the big shot plus and the vagabond, but the vagabond is temperamental and I much prefer the Gemini for an electric machine.
I have tried it and I like it. It has a platform, two cutting plates and one shim, thats it so far. I have no idea about a vagabond machine, I am really new to die cutting and embossing.
This was good and informative. That Big Shot layered (hinged) cutting plate and shims I like because all the options are right there without getting lost and it's not confusing trying to figure what which shim to use. CRAFTERS COMPANION! Don't get me started on them! I bought an embossing folder that also was supposed to cut out the center. The first time I used it in the Sissix it broke! Crafters Companion would NOT stand behind it saying it was only supposed to be used in a Gemini machine, and yet the packaging never said that. If It had I wouldn't have bought it. I can't afford to throw money away on products that won't work I liked this video. I like that you gave your honest accounting of what happened when you used it.
Thank you so much! Wow, I haven't tried using a cut & emboss folder in a machine other than the gemini or empress. I never thought it would break. They always say everything is interchangeable (other than the double sided dies). Sorry you had that problem.
I don't see the negative comments and if you deleted them, I'm glad you did. This "Linda" person is the same troll I've encountered on a few other crafter's channels. Calling their content boring, telling them to stick with the script and stop getting off topic, that they talk too fast, breathe too hard and all this other stupid junk. She seems to target certain channels. She's definitely a bully and has an MO and I hope you didn't let her get to you. I encountered her so frequently, I finally called her out on her negative comments. She got mad and said my comments to her were too negative and unnecessary, then blocked me! 😂😂 Oh the irony! I totally had no idea the Cuttlebug was being discontinued. I mean I just bought the thing last year! Thanks for letting us know because other crafters aren't talking about it. I'm so mad though. I mean thankfully my hoarding habit comes in handy for this, as I bought two extra sets of B plates but like an idiot, just threw out my old warped plates 2 weeks ago and started on a new set, leaving me with only one extra set. I'm kicking myself very hard for this!! I managed to find their extended long cutting plates late last year and it was super difficult. I just couldn't understand why....now it all makes sense. Now I don't feel so bad for purchasing the Cheery Lynn Little Sister and the Big Shot. Thought I was going crazy and overdoing it. 😂😂. Having said that, the Cuttlebug is still my favorite, followed by the Cheery Lynn Little Sister. I'm surprised I didn't fancy the Big Shot like I thought I would. I think it's because it's so bulky and heavy. I don't have a craft room, so I'm mobile and carrying that thing around is a hassle. Cheery Lynn's Little Sister is amazing! Heavy but not bulky like the Big Shot. It's the only machine that I know of that can use any plate by any manufacturer since the rollers are adjustable. I'm noticing Cheery Lynn's machines are getting harder to find. Not sure what's going on because I don't see anything online about them discontinuing it. I have no problem finding their plates or anything so I dunno. I have that same texture boutique and despite people saying it was a waste, (since a die cutting machine also does embossing), I don't regret the purchase at all! I actually prefer my texture boutique for embossing jobs because, 1) I personally think it does a better job. 2) I don't have to deal with trying to figure out the sandwich order/placement. Anyway, sorry for this long essay. And thanks for this amazing video! ❤
Well, "Linda" is really great at being a troll! LOL!! I didn't delete the comment, it was only one comment and I prefer to leave junky comments bc sometimes my people will tell them what's up! Ha!! Thanks for the info about this. (:
You are so kind, and thanks for standing up to the "bully." I am becoming more and more disenchanted with ProvoCraft. When they decide they no longer want to support a product, they ditch it quick. No support, no nothing. I can't believe they won't even continue making the plates. I think that is something they can easily continue doing. They did the same with the Imagine and the Gypsy. Bye! That's crazy to me. It seems like they didn't say much about it bc I've had tons of people saying the y didn't know...I mean I didn't even know until a gal from "across the pond" told me about it recently! LOL! What a bummer. I, like you, (like many crafters, I'm sure) have a bit of a hoarding issue, too. I have three clean sets left and three that I've cut into. I think that's fine, and I still have the Big Shot. I guess I'll move toward that now. Like I said in the video and you said here, it takes up a lot of space! I'll look into the Cheery Lynn machine, I didn't know they had one. I love their stuff and usually buy their dies and stuff at Scrapbook Expos...which, bummer, I just missed the Ontario one a few weeks ago! Ugh.
@@VianneyCreates Hey, no problem. Bullies deserve a taste of their own medicine. Only then will they know how it feels! I guess since she got mad and blocked me, I can't see any of her messages. 😂😂 I'm with you.....Bye ProvoCraft and good riddance! Won't be getting my business anymore. What's worse is I had no idea this isn't their first time ditching their products and leaving their customers out in the cold. Unbelievable! I agree, they could have at least continued making the plates. I can't believe they're still selling the Cuttlebug like everything is a-okay. I feel sorry for people who don't know and are investing their hard earned money on the Cuttlebug because other crafters aren't saying a word. Not sure if they don't know or if they've been told to keep hush hush. You're the only person letting folks know and again, a big ole thanks! Cheery Lynn has two machines.....The Big Sister and The Little Sister. If I had to describe it, I'd say it's heavy like the Big Shot with the size and opening of the Cuttlebug with a slimmer side profile. Thank God it folds up like the CuttleBug. That's the Little Sister though. I can't imagine how heavy the Big Sister is. I saw Gina K using her Big Sister and I remember her saying she doesn't carry it to her studio because it's so heavy but she loved it. Definitely research it before buying because I've noticed it's getting harder and harder to find and I'm not sure if they're discontinuing it or what. I can't find anything online so I'm not sure what's going on. If I find anything I'll let you know. Thanks for responding! Love your videos. Keep doing you! ❤❤
I broke my first cuttlebug machine and tried to get replacement parts- they wouldn't sell them to me- the warranty was expired by a month. That kinda turned me off- but I loved the machine so much that I bought another one. I have several of the machines you showed-glad to see I am not the only one who keeps the older ones. The old heavy red one from sizzix is in the back of my closet with the dies- do we call that hoarding? LOL Keep your UA-cam channel just the way it is-Love your personal touch including your family pictures- trolls just don't have a life! Your reviews of the machines was awesome and I Thank You for taking the time to do this! I am also a long time follower from the other channel and loved all the craft tutorials you did along with the nail art and reviews of products and family vacations! Stay Sweet just the way you are and don't pay any attention to the negatives- they must be lonely people looking. For some of the ladies looking for extra plates- you can try buying plexie glass and cut it down to size for extra plates. Go to Lowe's or Menards stores to look for it. Worth a try.
Thanks so much, my friend! I shouldn't be surprised that ProvoCraft just ditched another product, they do it quite often. It's disappointing, though. We have to keep the original Sizzix, it was too much of an investment not to!! LOL! Thanks for your kind comments, old channel and now. I really appreciate them!!
I have the sidekick machine and I have no problem with using the dies. Probably I have a newer version. love the fact that it's small and use it for small dies. I also have the Gemini Junior and love it to bits, but the magnetic mat is not great so I have to use tapes but other than that I love it and use it all the time. Thanks for the video - and I thought that I had all kinds of die cutting machine.
I just bought some plates for the Sidekick, the teal ones for thin dies. I hope that's all I need. That would be my only complaint about the Junior, the magnetic mat is weak and falls apart. (;
I have no idea how I missed this video! It’s a year old. I finally found a difference in our opinions. I prefer the Empress to the Gemini but since I started using the alternative mats/plates, I use the Gemini more. And yes, having to hit the “run” button is annoying on the Empress. You have a few more machines than I do, but not many. 😳 I LOVE my Big Kick (which I believe is the same as the Big Shot. But I don’t use the platform. You can get a magnetic plate, which is the bomb, and just use it with regular cutting plates on top. Very similar to the cuttlebug plate system. I prefer it to the Cuttlebug for cutting but I don’t think anything beats the Cuttlebug for embossing. Thanks for all the work you put into this. As for any naysayers, as my mama used to say, they can stick it where the sun don’t shine!!👍
Thanks for the info! So if you had to buy the empress and gemini junior right now, where would you purchase them from? I have been looking at different websites and trying to figure out which is better for price and if i had issues with the machine which is better for return or if i would have trouble with customer service (hopefully that wouldnt be the case!).
I'm sorry, that's a loaded question for me! I don't know, that's up to you as far as pricing and options. Of course, HSN will take anything back within 30 days. Some people have bought their gemini on Amazon. I don't know that Anna Griffin sells her machine on her own site. CC sells their machine on their site.
Great idea! I have a few of those in my kitchen. I even have some in the garage that I used to keep in the RV...I'll have to see if they are the right size. TY!!
I wish Spellbinder's had not stopped making the hand cranked Artisan Explorer because I love it. It's heavy duty, has a 4 inch opening and cuts and embosses beautifully. Guess when I wear out the plates I'll need to go looking on eBay. What patience you must have to try such a variety and keep track of what each does. I have the full-size Gemini but if I got a smaller electric machine the 6-inch spellbinder beckons because it cuts the thicker dies.
Thank you! I was so afraid of making this video because it is a lot to go through, but it has been well received. So many newcomers don't know about all of the machines out there, and my little collection is barely scratching the surface. (:
I have a big shot and use it often with embossing folders and dies. I bought it instead of a Cuttlebug several years ago because it seemed to have a wider opening. If you can use the Sizzix Bigs dies with the Cuttlebug then it seems you wouldn't need to keep the big shot.
Yes, I use the Bigz in the Cuttlebug no problem...only problem now is that Cuttlebug is now discontinued. Plates aren't even available anymore, so I guess I'll be using the Big Shot more now.
I have a Cuttlebug that I love, and one day I thought I broke it. I went to Kijiji and saw one for sale. I bought it, and when I got home, I tried my old one again, and it was working like a charm, lol. I have enough plates now 😅
@@VianneyCreates keep me posted. I was offered a cuttlebug machine no plates for $25 but I'm afraid to buy it and not find all the plates for it. My budget it too tight to waste even a penny lol
I love my old old sizzle machine. Still use it daily. I love cutting thin metal and fabric etc with thick dies. My machine is teal color and plates all seperate. I have looked at the Gemini and the expense to buy machine and the cost of replacing the plates keeps me from buying one. Sizzle machine has been pretty cheap to use for the last 15 years.
I have only been crafting for 2 years, so I appreciate everything about this video...to include going off topic. I have a Big Shot and I love it, but I only have two manual machines. Thank you for the info on the CB. I need to get more plates. I have the Gemini, but I have not used it yet. Thank you again for this video. You are very knowledgeable and should do more videos like this. I appreciate it.
I love your style and your channel. Please don't change a thing! You are real and life isn't perfect and tied in a neat little bow. I have learned how to use manual die cutting machines from watching your videos. Thank you for sharing who YOU are with all of us! 💝🌺💝
I just love you, Vianney! You are like the best bud I love to hang out with every day! I'm catching up with your many videos, and I love every one! I start my Day with you every day. I just had my 75th birthday yesterday Sept 3, YIKES! How can I be this old!!! I really appreciated this video reviewing all your cutting/embossing machines. I have a few. You are so knowledgeable, and I love that about you. Working and, hands-on, knowledge. Thank you!
I just found ur channel. U r so casual when u record. Love it. I have a Sizzix Big Kick ( the old red and white one) that I’ve used for about 20 years and I love it. I have acquired the Grand Caliber, a Cuttle Bug and all the rest but I always go back to my Big Kick. TFS
I used to love my bigshot, but it broke. I bought a vagabond 2. The multiplatform actually gives you the instructions on it. For thin dies, you leave it flat, and use the 2 cutting plates. For embossing, follow the pictures. My bigshot broke before 3d was popular so I am not sure about that. I LOVE my vagabond 2. I prefer it to a friend's Gemini jr. I mass produce cards with intricate dies. I adore the precision base plate. My vagabond 2 is faster than the Gemini jr, but you have to hold the button down.
Hey so I'm new to crafting like 2 months in maybe, I'm a subscriber to your channel because I do learn alot from your Content. A die cutting machine, I dont have yet If you know someone or somewhere I can get one fairly inexpensive I would appreciate the info.
Like secondhand? TBH, like I mentioned int he video...I sell stuff locally on OfferUp all the time. You may want to check an app like that. Thanks for subscribing and commenting! (:
Thank you. I just don't understand how someone comes to this site, for free, doesn't make videos themselves...and says "Be prepared to record, you talk about personal issues too much." LOL! "Issues?" I didn't know I had issues, my life is pretty darn great! LOL! (:
I only have a Sidekick, and I never use it because you can’t really find good dies for such a small opening. I have a few strip dies, like for borders, but that’s it. I do Mixed Media mostly so I wouldn’t use a machine often but it would still be nice to be able to get more dies if I wanted to include some in my work. Most of the sidekick dies are too cutesy for my style of art. Good video for comparisons. Thank you!
I think that's why I never really fully invested in the Sidekick, the dies were all like for children. Not that that's bad, but like doodled flowers and stuff like that. Kind of the same reason after 6 years, I stopped getting the Stamps of Life subscription. I love Stephanie, but I had to come to realize I never used the stamps. That doodle look isn't really me, I guess. Thanks so much!!
You can use any company's dies and folders in any of the machines. They all try to stick to a uniform size. Because each machine is calibrated individually, you may need to alter your sandwich a little by adding shims, but otherwise they all work in each others machines. There are a huge amount of dies on the market that can be used in the sidekick and other small machines. Almost all single word sentiment dies will fit, they don't have to be the dies that are manufactured by that company. Trust me, I have thousands of dies, from everyone who sells them, and I use them in all of my machines (electric and manual). I hope this helps.
I own a Big Shot Sizzix machine. It has the thick flip platform system. It was all I used for over a year before I got my Empress Now i dont use it, but it worked great. I did have to pass things through it twice sometimes.
Thx you that was very informative. I have the Gemini big boy and I use him all the time. I love it but like you the magnetic plate is terrible . I wound up putting heavy duty tape over it, helps it last a lot longer. Just a bit of FYI.
I have the diamond press ,but I much prefer the red side kick I’ve had over 10 years . I also have the Cuttlebug, big shot , cricut and grand caliber . Someday I probably will get and electric cutting machine for my dies. I will not buy another diamond press because of the flimsy cutting pads .
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been having a great time hearing everyone's experiences, and I know it helps people who peruse the comments. (:
Didn’t realise they had discontinued the cuttlebug but at least we can still use it. I also had the Imagine and a few other ones. I wouldn’t trust Cricut again their support for their machines are terrible. Silhouette all the way.
I haven't had trouble with any dies really, sometimes I may have to pass it through twice or with a couple of layers of paper shim. Many people have told me that they don't have those issues with the Big Shot. TY!!
I thought I did my research! Didn't know there was a larger Big Shot, guess that's next. I like your style ! Thank you for sharing all the different types of machines.
I just ordered the Sizzix Big Shot from Amazon. There are two sizes of openings. I didn't order the larger size because I don't need it. There is another youtuber that has used her big shot almost daily for 10 years, and she uses it to cut fabric.
I like the big Gemini & I also have jr plates for it. It is by my work area to use on a regular basis. I love the diamond press Dies! I must say they are quick easy & paper comes right out of them.the diamond press is ok as well.i have a cuttlebug I have had for years & I have plates & more new plates for it. It was by far my best send most machine until I got the Gemini. But I do like the cuttlebug as well. Thanks for the information on these products. You put like to of time & effort into to your videos for all of us to see & we appreciate you ! 💕
Thanks for all these reviews. I have the Diamond Press the new bigger one. It’s my first machine. I need to get a bigger one. I’ve been looking at the Gemini’s. I think you made my mind up to go with the Gemini junior. I have a question why would you need a bigger machine? I’m doing cards and will be doing albums, folios, paper purses, boxes those type of things. Thanks for any help you can give. PS I like when you talk about your family and life. People if they don’t like it they can unsubscribe. They need to be respectful and mind their own business.
You would need a bigger machine to cut bigger dies...like much bigger dies. I have only ever used my large Gemini a handful of times, but use the Junior pretty much daily (along with my Marquise)! However, if you just want one machine and be done with it, maybe you want to go with the biggest one. You can always cut smaller but not larger! (:
Vianney Creates...I have the Gemini and the black and pink Big Shot. The Big shot is my go to machine. For simple die cutting, it's so easy!
Great review!! My 1st machine is the small Diamond Press. I got the Sizzix Bigkick a few months ago. I use both of them.
To me you are great, no one understands how much work goes into these videos!
I appreciate that! TYSM!
I unscrewed the hinge off the book style of my Sizzix Big Kick, I find separate shims and base much easier to use.
That's so kind, thank you! I really appreciate it. Oh, I "keeps it real" LOL! (:
I am courteous, can you use the marquise folders in the sizzix boutique machine? I have cut a few dies in it with the plates.
Have you reviewed the Big Shot Empress Machine?
Anyone have suggestions for finding replacement pads for the cuttlebug? I found a machine but it has no plates and I want to make sure I get what I need to get started with using it. Thanks!
The Sizzix Sidekick has been revamped. You can purchase the new cutting plates that are thicker, which works with the old machines and the thin dies.
TY! I just picked up a pair of the teal cutting plates for it.
Cool, thank you!
TY!!
Doyou think that you could get the same results without using any machines at all?
Can you do an update on the machines you use now? You have the tangerine how. Just wondered how she fits it 😀
I realize this is from over a year ago, but I just found your channel, and I’ve been binge watching you.
Apparently some people don’t like your style, but I think you are adorable! 🥰
I am curious how you store so many machines!
Wow, great info! Thank you!
How many die cutting machine have you bought over the years ,which are you favourites & which have gathered dust unloved? I've never used my Cuttlebug,TODO & my Gemini junior has yet to be tried because of the fear of ever warping plates.
Countless, all of the ones you saw here plus two other Cuttlebugs, one other Diamond Press, several Cricuts, and the Pazzles when it first came out. The only one that really gathered dust is the Big Shot...oh, and the Epic 6. You will love the Junior if you get around to using it. I use mine almost every day, and only the magnetic mat has gotten destroyed! (;
I like when you go off subject and talk about whatever is going on in your life, it’s fun and we all have stuff happening, so ignore the haters. ❤
You have until January to return the mini Gemini and if you like the Diamond press with the bigger opening, I think I will wait to see how big the opening is on the diamond press
The Diamond Press opening is 4 1/2", but the folder might be 4 1/4"...they didn't specify in the little video they put out. TY!!
VianneyCreates do you know when it might be on HSN
DP said a few months...there won't be another HSN craft day after November 5th until January or February, I think. So, it will still be a while.
Thank you for such a great video and reviews I have been wondering which machine to invest in and it so nice for honest advice
You are great at reviewing machines. Have you ever considered comparing the Gemini versus the empress?
Is the crafters companion Gemini pro the same with circuit maker 3? Do they do the same? I’m a newbie with crafting.
I had the Sidekick for a very long time. I used it all the time. It had long plates to cut out border sizzlers. Loved my alphabet dies
We love our little machines, don't we? I just picked up the cutting plates for the sidekick, that way I am ready to use it if needed.
Thank you, that is very kind!!
I enjoy all of your content and whatever you decide to talk about but what I am most thankful for is the fact that you let us know about everything including how the crafterscompanion gemini machines work only with its own cord and that is a major plus and must know, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!❤
Thank you for telling us Cuttlebug is going out. I had no idea! I’ll have to get some plates quick.
Right? My gal that told me about it on here lives in a foreign country...and she knew! LOL! I just googled "cuttlebug discontinued" and found all kinds of press releases about it.
VianneyCreates did you find plates for it??
Thanks!
Sizzix Big Shot is the way to go. Their plates also fits is the electric Vagabond machine.
People love their Big Shots!! (:
I wish they still made the cuttlebug plates.
Thanks for the info!!
I love my big shot. Super easy to use, especially with the magnetic plate.
I only ever hear great things about the Big Shot...and now with Cuttlebug having been discontinued...I'll have to use the Big Shot more. (:
@@VianneyCreates The bigshot is a major work horse...I love mine for many things. I also have the big shot plus and the vagabond, but the vagabond is temperamental and I much prefer the Gemini for an electric machine.
I have tried it and I like it. It has a platform, two cutting plates and one shim, thats it so far. I have no idea about a vagabond machine, I am really new to die cutting and embossing.
Oh, ok. The Vagabond is also electric and is also made by Sizzix...so it's very similar to the Big Shot but looks like a suitcase. (;
I'm with you.....Bye ProvoCraft and good riddance!
I just bought some plates for the Sidekick, the teal ones for thin dies. I hope that's all I need. That would be my only complaint about the Junior, the magnetic mat is weak and falls apart. (;
I use the new dies in my sidekick also.
I Still have that one the big red one plus all the little alphabet Sets
LOL!! I will never get rid of mine, either! Great memories. It was my first "big" craft buy. I saved for it!! (:
Great to see all of your die cutting machines and a glimpse of your craft room.
Thanks so much!
I hear people talking about the electric Big Snot machine, I’ve actually had mine for about 9 or 10 years from QVC
Problem is you have to hold down the button to cut a die. With Gemini you don't...totally hands free feeding thru machine.
@@VianneyCreates sounds good, thank you!
Place the Gemi Go on a 2 tier stand found at Walmart. Space saver😀
Great idea! I have a few of those in my kitchen. I even have some in the garage that I used to keep in the RV...I'll have to see if they are the right size. TY!!
I’m looking to get a die cutting machine. The more I research, the more confused I get. I thought I wanted a spellbinders but now I don’t have a clue
Sorry, didn't meant to press any buttons.
OMG I LOVE MY SIZZIX SIDEKICK, I USE IT EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Do you? That's so great!
I do also! Vianney You can buy new plates for the sidekick that will work with framelits or thin dies. Try Scrapbook.com .
I have the big shot like yours and I love it .... it’s a great machine and simple to use ..... and I have all the others machines you have too
Ok, I should try to use it more often. Thank you!!
I have enough plates now 😅
Thanks for your video. Do you know if you can you use plates from another machine in the Gemini?
TY! I am not sure about that. I've never tried it nor heard anything about it.
I use plates from my big shot with my Gemini Jr and vice versa with no problem.
Would any of your other cutting machines plates fit the cuttlebug?
I haven't tried, I have seen some generic cutting plates being offered online now. Will wait and see if they are any good.
@@VianneyCreates keep me posted. I was offered a cuttlebug machine no plates for $25 but I'm afraid to buy it and not find all the plates for it. My budget it too tight to waste even a penny lol
Love your videos don't change a thing, thank you for sharing
A super comprehensive review of so many machines. I didn't know there were that many! Thanks so much.
Thank you so much! And there are so many more that I don't own, if you can believe that!! (:
I like your light heartedness. Keep being you. It was fun to see your stash of die cut machines!
That's so kind, thank you!
Omg 😱 yes that red on I have too lol I love my doodle tags
I love my old old sizzle machine. Still use it daily. I love cutting thin metal and fabric etc with thick dies. My machine is teal color and plates all seperate. I have looked at the Gemini and the expense to buy machine and the cost of replacing the plates keeps me from buying one. Sizzle machine has been pretty cheap to use for the last 15 years.
That's great to hear! I love getting good use out of things! (:
I have only been crafting for 2 years, so I appreciate everything about this video...to include going off topic. I have a Big Shot and I love it, but I only have two manual machines. Thank you for the info on the CB. I need to get more plates. I have the Gemini, but I have not used it yet. Thank you again for this video. You are very knowledgeable and should do more videos like this. I appreciate it.
Thanks so much! Everyone says the Big Shot is the best, I will begin using it more...especially now that CB won't be supported anymore.
Thanks for the heads up about the Cuddlebug.
Happy to help, what a bummer.
Great review. There is a folded up big shot Sizzix and I love that machine. You can buy it on Amazon.
That's right! I forgot about that one...that may be why the one I got was $50. Make room for the new model. (:
I love your style and your channel. Please don't change a thing! You are real and life isn't perfect and tied in a neat little bow. I have learned how to use manual die cutting machines from watching your videos. Thank you for sharing who YOU are with all of us! 💝🌺💝
That's so awesome, happy to have helped you out!! Thanks so much. (:
I just love you, Vianney! You are like the best bud I love to hang out with every day! I'm catching up with your many videos, and I love every one! I start my Day with you every day. I just had my 75th birthday yesterday Sept 3, YIKES! How can I be this old!!! I really appreciated this video reviewing all your cutting/embossing machines. I have a few. You are so knowledgeable, and I love that about you. Working and, hands-on, knowledge. Thank you!
Thanks for the info. I have a big shot and am thinking of replacing it. I now have a better idea of what I’m going to do
Happy to help! TY!
Thank you for your round-up of all the machines you have.
It was quite an undertaking, but I was happy to do it and hear from people about it...like what's in their collection, too!
TFS
TY so much! And TY for sharing your experiences!!
Nice! The Vagabond machines are so cute! Thanks for the info.
@@VianneyCreates No problem.
Hey so I'm new to crafting like 2 months in maybe, I'm a subscriber to your channel because I do learn alot from your Content. A die cutting machine, I dont have yet
If you know someone or somewhere I can get one fairly inexpensive I would appreciate the info.
Like secondhand? TBH, like I mentioned int he video...I sell stuff locally on OfferUp all the time. You may want to check an app like that. Thanks for subscribing and commenting! (:
No don't change a thing ,Just be you ,your a real person with a real life hugs to you!!!!
Thank you. I just don't understand how someone comes to this site, for free, doesn't make videos themselves...and says "Be prepared to record, you talk about personal issues too much." LOL! "Issues?" I didn't know I had issues, my life is pretty darn great! LOL! (:
I love my big shot! I also still have the original red sizzix machine as well!
I should bring that Sizzix machine out, I still have replacement cutting pads!
Susan Sieracki Ive just never found any that I like. I don’t make cards or scrapbooks, so I have a specific look I like and need. Thanks.
what kindare you looking for I got half of my at Tueday Morring . Maybe I have a few you could have what kind are you wanting .
I own a Big Shot Sizzix machine. It has the thick flip platform system. It was all I used for over a year before I got my Empress Now i dont use it, but it worked great. I did have to pass things through it twice sometimes.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Does ur cuttlebug cut the CC detailed dies well? Also, TY for this exhaustive, amazing review of all the machines!
I haven't had trouble with any dies really, sometimes I may have to pass it through twice or with a couple of layers of paper shim. Many people have told me that they don't have those issues with the Big Shot. TY!!
I really love the cuttlebug 😿 I broke my mine few months ago
Oh, no. What a bummer especially since they're discontinued it.
😯 I NEED TO GET EXTRA PLATES FOR MY CUTTELEBUG ASAP THANX FOR SHARING I WASNT AWARE
Good luck! They are virtually gone online. I wish I had known sooner.
I thought I did my research! Didn't know there was a larger Big Shot, guess that's next. I like your style ! Thank you for sharing all the different types of machines.
I probably need a manual, big, one like the larger Big Shot. I hear very good things! TY!
Stay true to yourself-screw the critics-they can change the channel-Thanks so much for this very informative video
VianneyCreates Thanks for the answer and all your helpful videos.
