I couldn't be prouder of Atlanta. That wasn't an easy task I set for her with multiple recipes cooked at the same time, and each one was done perfectly! Amazing! [BTW: I sent those recipes with the first package I ever sent containing a recipe box way back in 2021!]
Thanks for sharing them so Atlanta could then share them! 😊
The legend himself! I think Ill try to make your family's Made Right sandwich recipe for dinner tomorrow in honor of you and your mom! It looked delicious! (especially since Im not a pickle guy lol) Thanks for the inspiration Atlanta and Edward!
Edward, I'm from the Quad Cities, and I've eaten Maid Rites all my life. Is there mustard in their recipe? I didn't know that if it's true. I see them cooking the pile of meat, but never preparing it... Annnnd, I always put ketchup on them. They ask if you want ketchup and I have always had them that way. Never heard anything about it. What part of the State are you from and is ketchup a no no there??
@@artlochrie3106no, no mustard in the recipe.
Not the same as sloppy joes at all!
The Chef never does the dishes or cleans the kitchen! That is the deal I have with my wife which is why she always cooks. Great Job Atlanta!
That young lady clearly has 2 great parents that have given her a lot of confidence, self worth and a good natured spirit. It always warms my heart to see young folks like this, it gives me hope for the future. Well done NZ Fam!
Great job Alanna. A bit of trivia. Some people refer to those no bake cookies as “preacher cookies.” They were called that because it is made with things that most people have in their pantry and they’re put together quickly. Meaning if the preacher called to say he was dropping by, they could be made and ready to serve before they got there
Atlanta guuurl Ill just repeat what the rest of the comments are saying which is that we collectively as an anonymous audience couldnt be prouder of you and we love seeing you grow up before our eyes. You continue to become better and better in everything that you do like the cooking and the editing. I laughed at your self roast about cutting yourself! Keep it up and youll get so far in life! You have 356K people rooting for you! Like how many other kids get to say that? And youre a business owner as you mentioned (causing your mom to smirk PROUDLY ;) ). Youre amazing.
Atlanta, I am from eastern Iowa. My mother used to make both recipes and i am sure if she was still with us today she would be so supportive of your drive to be a cook. you are amazing. keep up the great work and never lose your enthusiasm.
Atlanta is cooking like a pro! I can see her having her own cooking show on TV when she is older! She is engaging and does a great job! You’re family is so wholesome! Prayers for health and joy!
Fuck TV. She’s better off doing UA-cam. This isn’t the early 2000’s where you had to have a TV show.
Ummm... she sorta has her own cooking show now...😊
But yeah, a network show would be great!!!
@@TJ-Travler yea YT is already slightly better than a network show imo
As a Nebraskan it’s cool seeing our estranged cousin Iowa getting some love.
Isn't Iowa kind of closure related to say the rural parts of Illinois?
Darlin, curl your finger tips in when cutting to reduce cutting risk.
Maid-rite is a 7.5 out of 10.
Add nostalgia and its off the charts.
Could not be more proud of Atlanta for her great cooking and how her family and the US are behind her. She will continue to go far. Congrats Atlanta.
Fellow Iowan who has subscribed for a long time. Thank you Atlanta, this was great to watch. You definitely are natural cook. Every maid-rite recipe can be different. Great job!!
When I was girl, we used to have a maid-rite restaurant in Scottsbluff Nebraska, which I enjoyed. But it has since closed down. I live in Western SD and do not know of any here. But once I ate at a Made-rite in Denver Colo. several years ago. I think you can look up the actual recipe on line. It has quite a few ingredients, but worth the effort. The meat has a creamy mustard taste, but pickles, onions and ketchup are added as topping before serving.
We had a MAID RITE restaurant in my Home Town of Trenton Missouri when I was a kid growing up. It's not there anymore but it was still there until I was in my late 20s I believe. I ate there a few times as a kid and one time I remember going there with a coworker for lunch. Trenton is in North central Missouri about 30 miles from the Iowa border.
I was just at the original Maid-Rite shop today and have an old acquaintance with two Maid-Rite shops. Interesting to stumble upon your channel today!
These sandwiches were the inspiration for the restaurant in the old Roseanne series and they described the sandwich exactly as your son did: Sloppy Joes without the slop!
As an Iowan, it is fun to watch you make this sandwich. Yes, maid-rites are very popular! I hope you come here! People are “Iowa Nice” and will welcome you!
holy crap i never thought i would see the one other iowan in existence, no less on youtube
@@johnnytrigger300sup Iowa gang, I think we are all here because we like hearing others from other places talk about our state lol.
As an Iowan myself, people on UA-cam rarely talk about Iowa. Only UA-camr I know from Iowa that I watch is Everyday Astronaut.
@@LazlowRave I didn't know there were 4 of us
@@johnnytrigger300im from Iowa also lol 😂😂😂😂
Hello Atlanta. Just a little tip. The measuring cup you are using is great for liquid ingredients, but you should use the set of measuring spoons and measuring cups for your dry ingredients.
As an Iowan I can say Maid-Rites are amazing, but never heard of putting any sugar in.
My recipe is finely diced onions sautéed, hamburger added to the pan and browned, and then a can (15 oz.) of chicken broth added and cooked until evaporated off.
Toppings can be pickles, slice of cheese (American cheese usually), mustard, ketchup.
I always use a slow cooker for my Maid-Rite hamburger meat with all the ingredients, including finely minced red peppers, stirring every so often. Longer cook time sure but that's a personal preference. And I pile on the pickles!! Here in Sioux City we have Tastee-In-and-Out restaurant that specializes in this style of sandwiches that been in business since 1955.
I've never heard of adding chicken broth.😮 I'll have to try it sometime. I've been cooking in restaurants for over 40 years too 😅
@@LazlowRavehowdy neighbor, Arnolds Park here. 😊🖐️
@@Nipper-ty9tk They still have the actual amusement park? I lived in Holstine and went there as a kid.

Thank you Edward Olson for sponsoring this video.
Atlanta is so professional now and Denzel always finds a new way to raid her goodies, I love this spinoff show.
I hope YNZF are all having a wonderful and safe trip.
Atlanta gets more and more confident (and proficient, cooking-wise) in every episode. It is such a pleased watching her grow up !!
I’m hoping that after she hits #50 she does a special episode and picks a couple of the recipients she was farthest off on bases on the comments and redoes them with the advice from the commentators
Edward is right, every Iowan has their own recipe for the maid-rites but also for the no bake cookies. We always had ours with regular potato chips because if any meat falls into the plate, you can use the chips as a vessel. ☺️
Yup😂❤
Atlanta is so much more confident with her cooking. It's a pleasure to see how much she keeps growing with her cooking. Keep it up.
when we make the nobake cookies, we leave them in mounds instead of flatening them out.
Not from Iowa, but my parents were. I had plenty of Made Rite's growing up. They also have the best pork tenderloin sandwichs. Iowa is also known for corn. Yummy. Such kind people in Iowa.
If your folks were from Iowa, then you're an Iowan. Howdy neighbor. 🖐️🙂
I'm from Iowa. Great job. 🙂
The family should react to the Iowa Hawkeyes (football team) Wave. One of my favorite things about Iowa.
Also from Iowa and agree, it would be cool to see them react to The Wave! Go Hawks!
I agree with you about the family reacting to the WAVE! I love watching it!
Ya gotta WAVE to them kids after all ❤😊
Hello from Mason City in North Central Iowa! Great video, Maid-rites definitely play a big part of my childhood, missed a opportunity to do Scotcheroos the superior Iowa dessert! It's always great to see some spotlight on this little state in the heart of the Midwest
It’s so cool watching the kids grow up and look more and more like mom and dad. Go Hawkeyes!
💛🖤
I’m a licensed Iowan.😂 I live in Muscatine (the home of the original Maid-Rite). Every local spot around has there take on the sandwich and no two are the same, but they are all very good. Maid-Rite itself is at its best when you eat it at the restaurant with the 50s style diner vibe they have. Washed down with their homemade rootbeer. There’s two things in Iowa that are fact, the loose meat sandwich is king, and the Hawkeyes are better than the Cyclones.
And the Cyclones are going down this weekend!!!!! GO HAWKS!!!
@@smccrory60 Nah, Clones will win. Oh New Zealand Family, if you haven't figured out yet....Your either a Hawkeye or a Cyclones fan-college football. Whether your a football fan or not. PS. Bacon is our 2nd language and we have an enormous Bacon Fest every year. Tickets are gone almost immediately when they go for sale. Love those cookies by the way. Say, ever have a Dutch Letter? We're famous for those too. Pella Iowa a strong Dutch community.
Go Hawks!! 💛🖤💛

1. Great job Atlanta, per usual. 2. Shoutout to Edward! That cooktop is a great addition to ATL’s kitchen. 3. This “state food” story comes w a bit of controversy. While the “Maid Rite” - w its finely ground beef & secretive blend of ingredients - was invented in 1926 in Muscatine in the SE corner of Iowa, some ppl say the loose meat sandwich was actually invented a few years earlier in Sioux City in the NW corner of Iowa. Specifically at the Ye Olde Tavern bar & grill - hence the name for loose meat sandwiches used in western Iowa: the “tavern.” Whichever came first, the sandwich is basically finely ground beef sautéed or steamed w onions & various spices, plus mustard. And then everyone tweaks the recipe from there. But one thing you always need: top w pickles!! 4. Lastly, you need to try the true Iowa dessert: Scotcheroos. They’re like Rice Krispie treats - but with melted Karo syrup & peanut butter instead of marshmallow - and a top layer of melted chocolate & butterscotch chips that cools and hardens. So good.
Scotcheroos! I'm a Sioux City native transplanted in Atlanta. I make scotcheroos and puppy chow as exotic treats for my coworkers now. None of them have ever heard of such delicacies, lol!
I always hit up Casey's for them bowls of scotcheroos.😂❤
I am an Iowan by birth and spent most of my life living there.
I hope you get the chance to visit Iowa when you come to the US.
Something you should have on your bucket list is a visit to the Iowa State Fair.
It is world renowned and many famous people have made it a point to go to the Fair.
I promise you will not be disappointed.
The butter cow is something that has been at the Fair for years and a tradition.
A life size cow carved from butter.
To look at corn fields.
Overpriced and overrated! Probably more famous for attracting flies and politicians!
"If you build it, they will come" 😊❤
A maidrite or loosemeat is seasoning based where a sloppy Joe is tomato-based.
Don't forget " The Tavern"😂
I’m from Des Moines Iowa and I have to say u made it right!! The made-rites here serve the loose meat sandwich just with meat and pickles if u want ketchup or mustard on it u can put it on at the table. U guys made me feel so proud to be from here lol. Iowas also known for having polite people so u guys would really fit in here if u ever did come to our fair.
It’s almost a sin to put ketchup on a Maid-rite! The Maid-rite place in Marshalltown, Iowa didn’t have ketchup available for decades. It finally has it on the countertop but people give you a dirty look if you reach for it! LOL
I am from Marshalltown. I was just craving a loose meat sandwhich last night. Good job Atlanta!!
@@luanneschaper8155 - My mom was born and raised in Marshalltown. My cousins still live there. When we’d visit my grandparents we would always bring a dozen home with us. To this day I still have a dozen frozen ones shipped from Taylor’s every now and then.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's with a Maid-Rite next door to my Dad's office on 1st Ave in Cedar Rapids. Great Food. I visited CR a few years ago and it is still there and still has great food.

@@Nipper-ty9tkNot sure who owned it at the time I was just a little kid then but my dad owned the vacuum business next door to it. I remember my brother and I always playing with the kids of the other business owners nearby. Good memories.
"No Bake" cookies are AWESOME... Made them in the 60's, they were in a Cub Scout book 🙂
You guys are the loveliest family I’ve ever seen. I’m so happy that y’all love and appreciate American food. I’m so happy y’all are finally coming to America and will be able to experience the food and every thing first hand. I love you guys and maybe one day you will visit Michigan.
Another Iowa fan of your channel here! Raised in a rural Iowa town of 500 before I moved to the Des Moines Iowa metro.
I’m not a huge loose meat/maid rite fan, but I’ll admit to eating my share over the years. 😂

My dads cousin was a long time maid-rite owner in Iowa.
Over the years they have expanded and exist today.
My family moved to muscatine area in 1880s and still have family there.
Loose meat maid-rites as they are different from sloppy joes.
It’s onion soup based and I love American cheese on mine

Quaker Oats is in Iowa and that looks to be a favorite cookie recipe of theirs

Yes I was born and raised in Iowa, been in Florida as long as Iowa now, you described Iowa the best of all the comments, that is how I describe it to people down here, Iowa could feed the nation. Some of the best food that I miss.
I LOVE Made Rite!! My mother worked at the Made Rite in her hometown of Toledo, Iowa! She said the secret was using the pressure cooker!
Small world! My husband's family is from Tama/Toledo. Nice folks up there!
I am from Texas, but I know where that Made Rite is. I hadn't heard of loose meat sandwiches before I met the Dostals, but I did enjoy them once I tried them.
Best wishes to you and your family.
So I worked my first job at an actual Maid Rite. We browned the meat in a special table. After it was done cooking we took most of the fat out with a turkey baster. Then we added the secret recipe of the Maid Rite seasoning. Which did have the ingredients on it. It has about 20 ingredients. The top main ones were salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper. So when I make mine at home I use beef base, onion powder, garlic powder and pepper. No salt because it's already in the soup base. Every thing that they would put on the bun was ketchup, mustard, chopped raw onions, and pickles.
What location? I’m guessing not the marshalltown one based on the removal of grease? We rioted when they wanted to change our table. We got to keep it
Lived in Iowa and Made Rite was a huge deal. Very much enjoyed them. Kansas had NuWay, a very similar style. These look pretty solid and I'd would eat either version, happily. Oatmeal Lace Cookies are delicious and these reminded me of them.
I live in Iowa and love all the things you made today. I have to say though I make my no bake cookies I increase cocoa by 2 tsp and peanut butter to one cup. I decrease the sugar to 1.5 cups. I like them better that way. I dont refrigerate them. I leave on the stove turned to medium when adding PB and oats for 30 to 45 secs. and then they will firm up as they cool.
Ugh, those cookies have to be my favorite! They always hit the spot when you're craving sweets and you don't even have to turn in the oven 😊
I'm in Illinois and we have our Made Rites too 🙂
My mom and grandma were both professional cooks from the south, and my kids are great cooks so i really love watching Atlanta do her magic!😍 Love the whole family! 💝
Oh my gosh.. The elusive Hooded Denzi Little Hands!!! So rare.. so hard to spot in the wild... Looks really good 😁👍❤️
I noticed he was the only one to take a bite out of the middle of the bread, where the rest took a bite from the corners.😂
I grew up in Iowa. And ate "Made Rites" or "Taverns" as we called them all the time! Atlanta is a natural in front of the camera. And I'm always curious about what Denzel is gonna do... Like starting a sandwich in the middle! LOL 10:10
As an Iowan who has had many Maid-Rites your looks amazing! Love seeing your cooking videos and do thrilled to see an Iowa tradition make its way to NZ
Hi all! I'm from the QCA (on the IL/IA border). The only spices I use in my recipe are: salt, pepper and garlic powder. I don't add ketchup to the recipe, nor do I use white bread. Mustard and pickles or relish before it's eaten. The onions look good. (P.S. Everyone either cuts themselves or almost does it when cutting onions). ❤️👍🏼 Like you said/read, everyone has their own recipe. ❤️ #sendingyoupostcardssoon
My mind is still genuinely blown that you are coming to America and not going to Washington DC. Ive lived in or spent time in all the places on your list and I would recommend DC Metro area over all of them. That area has everything and anything you could want to do and more. And since you are interested in America's history and military, there is literally no better place.
My mother is from Iowa and we cook the meat differently. We put water in a pan and then put a pot with beef in the water to cook. You don't need to add water directly to the meat at all. Essentially double boiling the meat.
So glad you finally got to Iowa food. Maid-Rites are a great choice (many might say a pork tenderloin sandwich, which is impressive, with the meat often being several inches wider than the bun; however, I think my "Iowa card" may be revoked, because I just don't like them at all!)!
I hope if you make it back over to the states someday, you will come to Iowa (especially at State Fair time). We adore your family and enjoy seeing how much Atlanta and Denzel are growing and sharing their skills and personalities.
Edward's the man! Very cool of you 🤟
I think No-bakes are popular everywhere in the states. I like the peanut butter ones without the chocolate. Great job Atlanta!!!
I like both types, but I like to add some peanuts to them, too.
We loved making ‘No bake Cookies’ when we were kids.
YAY! Iowa! I'm so glad you liked our sandwich! My hubby uses a slightly different recipe with no mustard or ketchup in the meat, just the spices, brown sugar and beef and chicken boillon. He makes it in our slow cooker and lets it cook on low for 3 hours. It melts in your mouth by the time you get done! And you can add ketchup to the finished sandwich, its considered fax paus to add it while cooking, though. You can also add a slice of cheese on top when you serve *chefs kiss*
If you ever get to Iowa, there are Maid Rites everywhere, but the one in downtown Marion is world famous. People come from all over for that restaurant. They also serve homemade pie. And Pork Tenderloins!
Looks boring and bland
Maid Rites have always been my favorite. I'm an Iowan, who moved back home 6 years ago. I always thought chicken broth must be in the meat. Never occurred to me to use brown sugar. Your husband's recipe sounds delicious. When I lived out of state, Maid Rite was one of my stops when I visited home.
My hubby's is delicious! Its such an Iowan classic!@@doloresbriseno2567
@@doloresbriseno2567Paul Harvey’s recipe was with chicken broth! No sugar, ever! This is the first time I’ve heard of anyone using sugar. We don’t need added sugar.
I don't know if anyone has pointed out other Iowa trivia. If you're familiar with the Old West, one famous cowboy was Buffalo Bill was from Iowa. And if you watch the movie "Tombstone", Wyatt Earp and his brothers lived in Pella Iowa. The bad guys...the McLaury brothers that were killed in the world famous gunfight.. they grew up around 90 miles from the Earps, in Iowa. Other famous Iowans whether by birth or by relocating includes: John Wayne, Johnny Carson, Ashton Kutcher, Elijah Woods, Brendon Roth, Jason Momoa, etc. Yep, at one time Superman and Aquaman played on the same high school soccer team in Des Moines Iowa.
Jason Mamoa, and Brandon Roth were also roommates when they moved to Cali.

Always make sure to use a claw grasp when cutting things so that your nails are completely vertical to the cutting surface and parallel to the knife. This will give you a more confident grip and prevent like 95% of all potential slips of the knife cutting you.

Those cookies are one of my favorite! Excellent job young lady! Hoping you guys are having a great time in USA!
I was raised in Iowa. The maid rite was a popular sandwich to make by groups to sell at county fairs or fundraisers as the loose meat could easily be made in volume and kept warm in large electric roasters. I recently found a crockpot recipe for Maid Rites. It made a large batch I may make it and try to freeze smaller portions for later use!
The no bake cookies are so good and there are small differences in the recipe that I use. All ingredients are the same, except up the oats to 3 cups. Then the biggest thing that I do differently is to set the timer for 2 and a half minutes (no more, no less, constant stirring) once it’s at a rolling/rapid boil. I also add the vanilla after the boiling, not before. They should set up pretty quickly, no need for the fridge. And yes, they are addictive, so these are usually holiday time treats. Love your videos!
I live in Western PA...no bakes are a staple here lol. You can find them almost anywhere, but the best are always homemade.
I love how everyone in the family took a bite out of the corner of the sandwich except Denzel who took a bite right out of the side. I’m from Kansas and also grew up eating those no bake cookies. Some people put coconut in them too. And we always used crunchy peanut butter.
We made no bake cookies when we were young. When our children were young, my husband’s brother and his family lived down the block from us. Our children would take my chocolate no bake cookie recipe and make cookies with their cousins at their house. I kept losing my recipe! I ended up writing it up several times! Once in a while I’ll find one! They are all grown now, and our daughter now makes them for our granddaughter. We’re in Washington State. Love your shows. Don’t forget to teach Denzel how to cook!

I was born in Iowa. I live in Texas now but my Mom cooked Iowa food my whole life. In the town of Ottumwa in Southeast Iowa there is a restaurant downtown in an alley called The Canteen. They make Loose Meat Sandwiches that are the best. They steam the meat, it's really good. But I will admit that my absolute favorite Iowa sandwich has to be the fried Pork Tenderlion Sandwich. They are amazing. Great video!
Love the Canteen! My hubby grew up in Ottumwa and we love going there for a canteen and a slice of pie!
Nothing beats a Canteen. Got to have mine dry, Mustard pickle onion cheese. & Sterzings chips & a Coke. & of course homemade pie with ice cream
My mom would always make the no bake cookies. Our recipe calls for 3 cups of the oatmeal. By adding the 3rd cup the cookies can set out and not need to go in the fridge.
I live in Iowa near Muscatine and this was an awesome video. I literally went to the maidrite restaurant there last week! Another staple they have are rootbeer floats.
My ex is from Iowa, made-rites were one of her dad's specialties. Very well done.
The no bake cookie does not go in the frig. When it comes to a boil the secret is to only bring it to a one minute no longer boil. They are a family favorite of ours.
Woo hoo! Hi Atlanta dahling! I hope y’all are enjoying the States! We’re so glad you’re here! Love y’all!! Have a great time! ❤❤❤

Those peanut butter, chocolate and oatmeal cookies were a staple when I was a kid. Mom would always let us make them (if we remembered to clean behind ourselves last time). She never have to worry about anyone having a cooking accident or stove fire (my sister was real bad at leaving food on to cook and forgetting about it)
Atlanta, you are such the chef! I enjoy watching you cook. You are enthusiastic in all of your endeavors showing absolutely no fear or apprehension in the kitchen. It is obvious you enjoy cooking and that joy is shared when your family eats your creations. Well done young lady!! I look forward to seeing you on tv someday!
When I was a kid we had neighbors that were from Iowa. She shared her Maid Rite recipe and that became our go to sandwich. I never liked sloppy Joes because they were too sweet and caustic for my taste. Here is Erma's recipe:
Cook down onion and hamburger. Drain any fat. Add equal parts ketchup and mustard and a can of Campbell's chicken gumbo soup. Sounds weird but its good! Let it cook down for a bit and serve on a bun! She had 6 kids and made these often. Of course increase quantities if using more loose meat.
I also love the no bake cookies! Im lazy though, I don't make individual cookies. I spread the mixture in a Pyrex dish, let them cool a bit and cut them. Sooo good!
Ya’ll should go to Atlanta for Atlanta when in the States haha there’s lots of good BBQ & soul food down there
Amazing how natural Atlanta is in front of a camera. She ought to aim for some sort of TV work.
She could have & monetize her own UA-cam cooking channel. :) Easy peasy!
Heck, she could even like try cooking various world cuisines, etc. I'd tune in. Fo' sho'... ^_^
Kids grow so quickly look how big they’re getting. Also Sam is looking good seems to have trimmed down a bit looking great man 👍
Originally from Iowa ...made the no-bake cookies for Thanksgiving, we've always added a cup of shredded sweetened coconut to the oat mix. Then mound them up like little haystacks
You usually choose between a dessert (sweet)or a main course/side dish (savory). When You are done going through the states, you could start back over and do another round by making the opposite (sweet vs. savory) type of food. By the time you get done going through the states twice, you would have a meal and a dessert for each state.
Don't worry about how to say Worcestershire sauce. There's a guy who does cooking videos on TikTok whose probably in his late 50's and he calls it Wash-your-sister sauce. I die from laughter every time I hear him say it lol.
😂😂
We always butter the buns and put under the broiler to heat up before adding the meat. Great job Atlanta!
I grew up in Iowa and I’m thrilled that you made these. If you’re looking for another Iowa favorite - make Scotcheroos. They are a huge favorite in Iowa. You can find them at every grocery store and gas station in the Winter.
I'm also from Iowa. Haven't had chocolate odies in like forever. You brought back memories today.
Bravo young girl! Keep it up, you'll become an amazing chef!
