Thanks for this video. I fill my jars half way, jiggle/shake/poke the contents down, add the first half of the liquid, and de-bubble. Then I repeat that process to finish filling the jar. I get more in the bottom of the jar that way with less wasted space. I find it quicker and less messy to pour my liquid out of a teapot or pitcher rather than repeatedly ladle from a pot.
My husband and I watched this video on Friday night and went out to the Amish farm stand on Saturday. We purchased a huge amount of beans (or so I thought). Sunday I put up 7 quarts just like how you did in your video. Something I haven't done in 25 years when my girls were little. I followed your instructions and they came out beautiful. Thank you for for the basic teaching method that helped me gain confidence. Not only did this huge bag give me 7 quarts, I have 5 1lb bags in the freezer and we just had some for snacking. Ideally we would have grown our food but being a manager of a manufactured home community we don't own our land. Hubby said last night, he wanted to go out get 40lbs of tomatoes and more beans to put up this weekend!!! Rachel, thank you again for showing us that you can still preserve even if you work full-time and may not have garden space!!!!
Thank you for remembering us newbies. I'm 60 and never canned until the last year. You are excellent at teaching. Keep to the basics and your audience should double in size if you're wishing to grow volume. Thank you again for these basics. ❤
You have no idea how much I needed a video like this. I have been so nervous about canning. All things your friend said I have felt that same things this year. I have told my husband several times that I just wish someone would come alongside me and tell me what to do and do it with me. Thank you Rachael. This video has helped some of my fears.
I was able to pressure can 16 pints of corn yesterday and three quarts today. My wife and daughters are snapping green beans now. So I know what I am doing tomorrow. Plus I have to finish building shelves in my pantry tomorrow so I can store my jars. This is my first year canning so I appreciate your videos they are helpful.
I’m 41 years old, never knew there was such a thing as homesteading. We were just living. Anyhow, you ma’am are one of the best when it comes to explaining. PS. Thank you for getting to the point. I plant tinderets, fill the jar, teaspoon of salt, water to the neck, finger tight lids and pressure cook at 10#s for 90 minute’s.
You commented having a new gasket on the old canner I always dampen gasket with water before closing seams to seat better, will drip a little then seal better. Been using mine for 30 years still going strong.
So now I’m watching this and I see you on here with my old friend Stacy! How fun! We must get together! I just got the all American 930 this year. Love it! Thank you so much for sharing!
I literally did the same thing last night watching television but a French dip my beans instead of just snapping them in the kingdom up today it’s only the second harvest out of the beans I may have another harvest before the plants are done for the year love your contact girl
My First canning of green beans siphoned and didn’t go so well. Doing my second batch tomorrow, and watching this showed where I believe I went wrong 😑 - the NCFHFP said process for 50 minutes….doing your 25 minutes next - so crossing my fingers and saying prayers that this batch is successful!! THANK YOU!
I have been canning most of my adult life, so being that I just turned 67 years old...OMGosh that's about 50 years 😲 My favorite vegetable is green beans - so I try to get as many canned as I can. Depending on how my harvest turns out. It's so satisfying to know that I grew them and can put them up for the year. I grew up using a pressure canner even for cooking dinner. Fast & easy way to make a pot of mashed potatoes for a big family! Only mishap I ever had was taking the lid off of my pressure canner too soon when canning tuna, and it syphoned out and I got 3rd degree burns around my waist where the boiling hot water soaked into my jeans. I never moved so fast in my life! Straight to the shower, stripped and turned on the COLD water!!! OUCH 🙄 - I never did that again...
I experimented last year with pickles. Half the jars I used pickle crisp, the other half I used grape leaves. A year later the ones with grape leaves are still crisp.
I love your measurement of the vinegar in the water! Made me chuckle! Little tip if you have hard well water....add about a 1/4 cup of white vinegar into the water in the canner to prevent that white film from hard water. Love the channel! I am not sure you expressed that the pressure needs to reach 10 pounds before the timer starts. I have been teaching canning classes and have found that I also have not expressed how important it is to wait until it comes to the desired pressure before starting your time.
I've just started practicing water bath canning with store bought fresh veggies. My hubby went and bought me a small pressure cooker for Valentine's Day! Thank you for this tutorial! ❤️
Yeah. We extended our garden with store bought organic potatoes in food grade 5 gallon buckets. I have extra for later planting after the harvest is done. All winter I bought organic scallions and cut 2 inches at root end, rehydrated in water. Changed the water every two day. I clipped all winter to eat. Spring time I planted all around the garden edge to keep bunnies out. It works. I cut outer leaves of swiss chard and they produce until freeze.
OMG I love you all so much!! Not only have I learned so much from you, but I have been diagnosied with MS and so last year I just felt like I was killing myself trying to keep up with everythihng, and You all have taught me so many short cuts and easier ways of doing things that I having had any episodes of MS anywhere near as bad as I did last year. Thank you for helping me feel normal again and feel like I can still provide for my family. I just think the world of you two!!! Thank you so much
Amy, bless you while you perservere through life with your diagnosis. I pray healing for you and I pray you be blessed with energy and health enough to do what needs and also rest when you need it.
Just started watching you and I am hooked. I've had that super large canner in my closet for ten years! I've always wanted to can and I love how well you teach
Watching for the second time to refresh my memory. This is the year! I've planted over 100 green bean plants, even with the freak weather we've had this year I really hope to can a years worth. Watching again, I've picked up some of the things Stacy said, like "Welcome to the jungle." Lol I can really relate this year! Thanks for the confidence boost with this video!
I'm from north side south bend and I don't comment a lot because I watch on my TV, but I love you and it's nice to meet fellow gardeners around the same area. Subscribed to Stacy!
I enjoyed this video. Having a new be asking all the questions was very informative. Made me feel good about myself. I appreciate the time you take to write all the instructions. Thank you so much! 💕
This was helpful. My son really wants to can soup and other staples to take back to college this Fall. While I have my Grandma's old water bath canning equipment I haven't looked into the a pressure canner until recently. I'd love to can with him and this very timely video helped me decide to bite the bullet and purchase one. Thank you!
I am adding this video to my favorites. As a child, I watched/ "helped" my Mom to harvest our garden and can the harvest. But, as an adult, I appreciate your videos, but especially this one, thank you for explaining the basics, Rachel!!💞
You're a wonderful teacher. I've personally learned a lot from you. Your green beans look amazing. So glad Stacey was able to get a crash corse from you and that she learned and her fear dissolved. Great video!
I think it's great that you're taking a new learner along with you, Rachel, I hope more homesteaders will think of doing a class or online class, even better! I know there's workshops that youtube channels offer on processing your own meat, and they sell out. I think there's a big audience for homecanning, as well. I will say, one thing I've done in the past is to ask my neighbors who don't want or have the means to gather their apples or pears, if they minded if I gathered some. Then, I brought them home and made applesauce and froze it. Now, I have my own trees, YAY! Also, I have not lost any of my frozen food in about 40 years of freezing due to losing power, and we live in a state that loses power more than most. We keep our freezers closed when power's out, and that gives us 72 hours of safety, also if we lose power here in the winter, we can put things outside, due to temps being below freezing. And a few years ago, we bought a small generator, which will keep the power going for the freezer should we lose our main source. This might hopefully put your mind at rest about freezing a little. Plus, freezing is, to my mind, a LOT less work! 🌻
Thank you so much! Seeing where exactly to apply the lubricant, the finger measurement for the lid contact space, and that there is still potentially pressure even with the gauge at zero. Plus what to do about it. Extremely helpful. Everything else might be an electric stove 'learning experience' for keeping accurate pressure during.
I needed this video 2 weeks ago when I bravely pressure canned green beans for the first time ☺️. All went surprisingly well and it was much easier than I thought it would be. Watched your video just to ensure I didn't mess anything up!!😉
Rachel! Soooooo many beans lol I had sticking issues with my AA PC lid too when I first started using it (only 8-10months ago). I’ve ended up switching the petroleum jelly/vaseline to olive oil. It hasn’t stuck once since the swap. I would recommend it to anyone I know. Wow! Congratulations to both you and Todd on the 100k milestone. We are so glad you here with your lovely videos. Brightens my day.
Thank you for this beginner guide! I have my first pressure canner on the way and I will admit, I am a little anxious! I think having Instant Pots become such a popular appliance this past few years is probably helping a lot of people become more comfortable with the thought of using a pressure canner. The concept isn’t so foreign!
I love that you did this video! It is the perfect video for new canners or anyone that has been fearful or unsure. There are many great videos out there, but there are many times that questions a beginner might have get overlooked or not thought about. This is the first video I’ve come across that has a seasoned canner and a new canner working together. Such a great idea! It was great being able to see both perspectives and be able to see you walk her through her questions or fears and give suggestions for troubleshooting. I have had a canner for over a year and have yet to can anything because I was unsure about certain things. This video gave me the answers I’ve been needing and I now feel confident that I can start canning. 😁 Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you so much for teaching us. I water bath canned my pickled coleslaw, your pickled coleslaw. Water bath canning seems super easy. Waiting for veggies so I can pressure can. If I have to bulk buy some I will. Have an awesome day.
I've Bern canning all my life , and fed my family well. My veggie soup is locally known by many. I love that your trying to get the younger set more interested. You are so right, It is not a scary thing. Side note, love your "pickle pusher' bit I learned old school. "Pack em, til they push back' they'll likely never be to tight. And your head space. Grandma always said, "Fill the jar to its shoulders" The pressure part does need minding, and as stated, finding the right time to set your timer, is the hardest part, depending on the age, and design of your canner. Definitely easy to over do, or under do, which is why "watching you pot" is imperitive. Now days much easier with gages. But I learned on pots without them, and you learned to trust your ears. Anyway thanks again for teaching to a new generation. This is a lifestyle, that people should get reacquainted with.
Hi all I just purchased a Presto 23 quart and it also can be double stacked for a total of 16 quart jars ( it only comes with one rack so I did have to purchase extra ). I'm a beginner and look forward to start canning meats. Blessings
You can use cabbage leaves and a small chunk of core from the cabbage and it will make your pickles crunchy. Also, be sure to trim BOTH ends of the cuke, especially the flower end..
New subscriber here from Anderson, SC! Im scared to can anything and I want to take that fear away 😆. Im 37 year's old and I really need to learn how to can vegetables from our garden. Looking forward to watching ur video's! Im ready to learn the basics 💯 and learn how to start Canning tomatoes and green beans. I love pickled green beans so I want to learn how to do those as well.
I haven' canned yet. Our garden is small. We are in our 70's and have a no dig no till no fork. I hope you read this. Do you remember how many green bean plants it to to fill the jars? If need be our sons can easily extend our garden. BTW we freeze extra chard. We cut outer leaves and the plants produce more crops all summer until a freeze. You are an excellent teacher. Oh and I loved seeing you sit on the ground in shorts when you were pooped in another video. I'm binge watching you.
I pressure canned for the first time today! I did dried beans, and I did soak them overnight. I think it went well! They all pinged. I had one jar siphon a bit (maybe didn't debubble enough!?). I have enjoyed all your canning videos- thanks for taking us with you!
This was a great video. I helped my parents can when I was growing up. Been doing some here and there but really gotten into it more last year. With my two young kids I wanted them to see the importance of being prepared and how empowering it is to know you can take care of ourself a bit. I love more of the basics video and also just how to plan out what to can each year better. Right now I feel like it a guessing game mostly going off what I know we eat.
Hi Rachel - Thank you (and Todd) for all that you teach me! I enjoy your calm manner and conversational way of teaching. Questions: 1)What is the smallest number / size load I can process in my pressure canner? Ball says: 2 Quarts or 4 pints or 8 half pints. What is your personal experience? I do not have 14 pounds of beans, but I have enough to can 3 pints. I was super excited to can my tiny harvest, just to gain experience - but my excitement was dashed by the load requirement. 2) Also, do I have to 'waste' lids on jars of water added to the pressure canner, to take up space if I don't have a full load? Can I just set the 2 Quarts / 4 Pint jars of product in the canner and not worry that the canner isn't full of jars? THANKS!
Thanks for sharing!! I have been canning 6 years but I’m always learning.. hubby and I invested in a freeze dryer and it arrived this morning can’t wait to use it. Always wanting to learn and improve. Took almost 3 months to arrive. Have a wonderful day
Great tips. I have the presto , I'm so happy with it. A tip to someone else who may have a dark stove like me . I couldn't see when I had the steady stream of steam so eventually I thought of using a stainless steel pot lid. I just hold it over the vent and can easily tell if its steaming . Love your videos. One problem, now my mind is always on the next thing to can. Lol
Thank you! I watched a couple videos on canning green beans, but no one mentioned sterilizing their jars. I remembered my dad doing that tho, before he hot packed and pressure canned. So, thankfully I knew to add that step in before pressure canning. I was always taught hot jars, if your doing hot packing. It's been years since I've canned, but that I did remember, because the jars were so hot, that I could barely stick my hand in the water, and that was my job, was sterilizing the jars.
Hi Rachel. I get my beans from the Supermarket, and I make the beans as a stew, or with meat. The video is as awesome as ever. You are wonderful Rachel. Thank you so much for sharing. As for your friend, I am subscribed to her channel. I saw the pickle video. God Bless you and your friend. Stay safe. Maria.🙅☕️💁🖐️👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍
grape leaves, horseradish leaves, tea bags, bay leaves, all help keep pickles crisp from my experience .. last year I put a bay leaf in each jar and they were sooo crisp and good .. my 5 yr old granddaughter only likes Grama Laney's juicy pickles won't even try jar pickles! So adorable! beautiful harvest .. we are encased in smoke here in the mountains in BC .. it's really nasty and hot ... still pushing through with getting what I can .. if we had experienced a natural summer here I would be overflowing with produce .. not so much this year! Next year will giver a go again ....
I believe the head space is so that food won't float up and interfere with your lid seal. It's also the reason why you let the canner depressurize and then let the jars sit in the canner, cooling very slowly so the liquid won't siphon out, taking any food particles with it and messing with your seal. Also, a splash of vinegar in your canner water will prevent any cloudiness on your jars. That goes for water bath and pressure canning 🙂 Great tutorial, and great info as far as planning how much food you need to preserve for a year!
SO love your videos! My (Ukrainian) wife was so scared she ran into the bedroom as the Presto came up to pressure. Her babushka didn't have the safety features we have today. I use a 10PSI wobbler, btw. I'm 65 and remember my mom canning all our garden produce back in the 60s & 70s. So great to see someone new getting into it. I saw your video about buying #10 cans of stuff to can. What do you think about buying bulk frozen veggies to can. Just thaw em first, of course. I've dehydrated a bunch that way too.
I enjoyed the refresher class. I wanted to say that I think Stacey was a little shy with the debubbler. I thought we were supposed to slide the debubbler all the way down against the side of the jar, to the bottom of the jar, then press inward toward the center of the jar. I suspect I may be a "helicopter canner".
I was snapping my Royal Burgundy beans while watching your vid! I blanch and freeze but that’s only because hubby does not care for canned beans as much as I do. Then I spiralized 6 zucchini and threw those in the freezer too ( just another way to preserve zucs). I use as a pasta replacement all the time.
My first attempt at canning green beans was not good...there were about 10 green beans floating in the jars...lol....and as soon as I opened them...whew! Bad bad smell....every jar was bad...I did not know I could not waterbath....I learned very quickly a pressure canner is a must for many items
The only thing I think you missed mentioning is how much water to put in the canner and a "blub blub" of vinegar in the water to keep the sediments from getting on the jars during canning. I do hot pack green beans, just because I like doing it that way. Oh and also, you can put the petroleum jelly on the rubber seal of the presto. I prefer coconut oil because it isn't petroleum based and won't deteriorate the rubber.
I was gifted some pickles that had grape leaves in them. I wondered what their purpose was. Now I know. Thank you for educating me again. I’ve heard the advantage of freeze drying or dehydrating is because It takes up so little space.
One thing to remember when using a gasketed canner (even just a pressure pan when cooking) is to make sure the gasket is laying flat in its place. Sometimes, they'll curl just a hair in a spot, not even too noticeable, but it's enough to create faulty pressure. It doesn't necessarily mean the gasket is faulty, just needs a tweak
My mother was a victim of a pressure canner blow up. Fortunately, the stove had a double oven so the lid hit the upper oven. She was burned some and cut but nothing serious. She thought she had not gotten the lid on properly.
Thank you for a very informative video. I didn’t know about the grape leaves. Going to try this for sure. We like new potatoes and green beans so I like to add a few little new potatoes to my jars
This was very helpful! I just ordered my first canner, and I felt like this gave me the "permission" to order the Presto, even though the AA does look pretty cool.
Home canning is awesome but some years are better than others. I made the worst pickles last year. I had to throw them all away. This year they are so much better.
Absolutely love your videos! One thing I grow is Kentucky Pole Beans in my garden because they are a space saver. Gardening and canning is a TON of work but it's very rewarding when it's done correctly. I have been canning on my own for over 8 years but learned from my grandmother, Aunt and my mom. They canned a lot! I'm scared to do meats. You have any videos on that? I see you use a laddle you water into the jars. Have you ever thought of using a measuring cup to make your life easier? I use a glass 2c measuring cup to pour hot liquids into my jars. It's faster and less messy. Most of the time you don't need a funnel either. When I am not using the measuring cup, I keep it inside of my pot with the handle hanging to the outside of the pot, so, it doesn't get anything on it accidentally & it's not in the way. I have a very tiny kitchen and very little space to work. Love your big kitchen! How long have you been canning and where did you learn how to do it? Thanx again for a great teaching video!
We do have several videos on canning meat in our preserving the harvest playlist. I'm self taught, didn't grow up around it. And many people share the tip about pouring liquid but I guess I never think of it come time to can. Old habits die hard
Hello. I Find in time, on the All American Canner, your butterfly screws will start to stick and get hard to turn. You can prevent this if you also put petroleum jelly on them. Thanks
Excellent and helpful. I have a new All American canner and need to use it soon. Sometime, when you’re using the petroleum, could you show the lid so I (we) can see how much to use? Do you wash it off with dish soap between each use?
Experienced All American canners: I got tired of greasing each session and I had food safe grease to repack KitchenAid gears. I put some of that on and it lasts a long time, 3-6 sessions. The feel of it after it's on is more lubed than regular oil 🙂
I live in Sweet Home Oregon and I keep checking but there are no canning lids to be found. I even have family and friends several towns away checking for me . I remember you doing a lid video. Was there a favorite alternative to the Kerr lids? Thank u so much for your help:)
With the Presto canner if you store with the lid just sitting upside down on top of the base. In other words not cinched down like it would be while using it. The gasket should last years if stored like this. If you store the Presto with the lid tightened down you will be lucky to get 2 years of use.
Do not forget us guys who are getting into canning. This is my second year canning and I have enjoyed your videos teaching canning to us newbies.
So awesome to see more guys canning!!
Trust me, you never let us... 😒
How to sharpen a knife
Yep I been canning a while.only 7 yrs.
Rachel, you ask us for some of your recipes, well sweetie I’m begging. I do love them. Please…….l
Thanks for this video. I fill my jars half way, jiggle/shake/poke the contents down, add the first half of the liquid, and de-bubble. Then I repeat that process to finish filling the jar. Good ideas!
Love the teapot instead of ladle idea!
Thank you! Love the tea pot method

That's awesome! Right now, it's so important to put up whatever food we all can. Every bit counts ♥
I totally agree. I was raised not to waste food so this comes very naturally for me.
Thank you for remembering us newbies. I'm 60 and never canned until the last year. You are excellent at teaching. Keep to the basics and your audience should double in size if you're wishing to grow volume. Thank you again for these basics. ❤
I'm watching this as I'm currently canning my own green beans!

I’ve been canning for a while, but it was nice to get this “refresher”. You’re a good teacher. So patient and calm.
She really really is!!

What do you think of altitude in each state I heard it is very important. I'm so scared of botulism. And how do you clean veggies ..

100,000 congratulations!
We have been on UA-cam for a few years & never had any luck.
That’s an amazing achievement 👏
You guys rock!!!

Thanks for all your wonderful videos Rachael

Crab Apples make a great jelly. No pectin needed. It’s beautiful and pink. The pectin you buy is actually crab apples.

I hope you did can with your son. I would give just about anything for my son to want to can with me. 💖
That will be so helpful. College food sucks!! This way he will be saving money and having a delicious meal. Well done mom...
I am adding this video to my favorites. As a child, I watched/ "helped" my Mom to harvest our garden and can the harvest. But, as an adult, I appreciate your videos, but especially this one, thank you for explaining the basics, Rachel!!💞
You are a wonderful teacher. So patient, respectful and full of information and options.
Great beans, great video! You are a terrific teacher, Rachel!
CONGRATULATIONS FOR GETTING TO 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS! 🎉🎇🎆🎊
Thank you! 😃
I have about 45 green bean plants growing beautifully! 🤞 I can can enough for my family for 2 years.
That is awesome!
Ahhh the glory of canning the harvest! Happy times! Thanks for teaching everyone some basics, it's a great skill to have.
You bet!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you so much for teaching us. I water bath canned my pickled coleslaw, your pickled coleslaw. Water bath canning seems super easy. Waiting for veggies so I can pressure can. If I have to bulk buy some I will. Have an awesome day.
I used to be a coxswain :) loved rowing for over 10 years ! Can’t wait to can green beans !
Thank you, I appreciate watching you doing this for us all!
Thank you so much for this video. I so wanted to learn how to do beans.
We have the model 921 and it works great!!!! We canned green beans, carrots, and a mixed with onion. We love the channel!!!!!!!! God Bless.
Hi all
I just purchased a Presto 23 quart and it also can be double stacked for a total of 16 quart jars ( it only comes with one rack so I did have to purchase extra ). I'm a beginner and look forward to start canning meats. Blessings
You can use cabbage leaves and a small chunk of core from the cabbage and it will make your pickles crunchy. Also, be sure to trim BOTH ends of the cuke, especially the flower end..
Love this video... I'm going back in your videos and learning the basics.love you Rachel and friend! ♥️
I haven’t even watched this yet and have to say thank you!!! ☺️
Great job!
Questions:
1)What is the smallest number / size load I can process in my pressure canner?
Have a wonderful day
That is awesome! We'd love to get one someday ♥
This was a really great confidence booster. I can't wait to try this out.
An added bonus for me is canning veggies don’t get freezer burned either
Lol
I bought all American last year and love it. I love learning from your videos
How amazing would it be to spend the day with you and get to pick your brain about all things canning?! Good luck canning Stacey!
My favorite thing to can is green beans, probably because they are very easy to prep and really tasty to eat
Thank you!
I love how your conversation flowed so easily while being very educational. Possible new format?
grape leaves, horseradish leaves, tea bags, bay leaves, all help keep pickles crisp from my experience .. last year I put a bay leaf in each jar and they were sooo crisp and good .. my 5 yr old granddaughter only likes Grama Laney's juicy pickles won't even try jar pickles!
Alum is a good substitute for pickle crisp!
Love that!! I suspect I am a helicopter canner, too!! 😂
Just got done pressure canning green beans for the first time using your video, thanks for all your help! 💚🌱
Lovely green beans!
As a long time canner (30+ years)..I still worry about botulism!
That American canner is so intimidating! All the technicals! 😁
Sometimes, just flipping them over and reseating is enough
Great tip! We'll give it a shot ♥
My mother was a victim of a pressure canner blow up. Fortunately, the stove had a double oven so the lid hit the upper oven. She was burned some and cut but nothing serious. She thought she had not gotten the lid on properly.
How long ago? We’re there modern safety features?
Thank you for a very informative video. I didn’t know about the grape leaves. Going to try this for sure. We like new potatoes and green beans so I like to add a few little new potatoes to my jars
Grape leaves? I missed it.
When I am not using the measuring cup, I keep it inside of my pot with the handle hanging to the outside of the pot, so, it doesn't get anything on it accidentally & it's not
in the way.
So easy! Love it! Thanks for sharing! Loved all the bits of information throughout too! 👑💗
You are so welcome!
Love the video, especially hearing about your first Canning mishaps! My first pickles were mushy too! I loved hearing about pressure canning tips!
Hello. I Find in time, on the All American Canner, your butterfly screws will start to stick and get hard to turn. You can prevent this if you also put petroleum jelly on them. Thanks
trying these today, raw pack for first time, thanks for the video
Excellent and helpful. I have a new All American canner and need to use it soon. Sometime, when you’re using the petroleum, could you show the lid so I (we) can see how much to use? Do you wash it off with dish soap between each use?
Regarding canning crisp pickles Caroline at Homesteading Family has a great recipe for low temperature pickle canning.
Experienced All American canners: I got tired of greasing each session and I had food safe grease to repack KitchenAid gears. I put some of that on and it lasts a long time, 3-6 sessions. The feel of it after it's on is more lubed than regular oil 🙂
Good tip I can usually get 3 sessions from my Vaseline
I learned to use vaseline from The Kneady Homesteader. I'm glad I knew before I got mine. 😊
If it’s late or I’m busy, I have no
Problem
Leaving my jars in canner overnight & getting them
Out next day. Also less lid failures
Careful, research flat sour
Wow, thank u !! Never heard of that from
Anyone. Will not continue. Thx thx thx🍓🐾💕
For us newbies, we would love to get a couple close-ups of some of the process if possible. Love your videos!
Ok
There is a free app called canning timer and process that helps a lot when you’re new. It takes you thru step by step. Good luck and happy gardening.
Yes!!! My sweet grandma scared the daylights out of me when she canned. First time attempting it and I’m past 40 lol
I live in Sweet Home Oregon and I keep checking but there are no canning lids to be found. I even have family and friends several towns away checking for me . I remember you doing a lid video. Was there a favorite alternative to the Kerr lids? Thank u so much for your help:)
What do you think about the electric presto pressure canner?
Was looking more for step by step, but found some good tips in comments!
With the Presto canner if you store with the lid just sitting upside down on top of the base. In other words not cinched down like it would be while using it. The gasket should last years if stored like this. If you store the Presto with the lid tightened down you will be lucky to get 2 years of use.
