Yeah my mother in law didn't even own a pressure canner. She canned probably for 40 plus years and never used one. I learned a lot from her. She water bathed her green beans and she didn't water bath them for long at all. I also use her method because my family will NOT eat them if I pressure can them nor will they eat them if I put in vinegar. I just made pepper sauce and my daughter left the room from the vinegar smell. lol

I got so excited going through my canning books and I have the 1944 Kerr canning book. I love it. I forgot I used to use it a long time ago. I waterbathed everything years ago.
Does that canning book show water bathing for vegetables? I found one on ebay and want to order it, but if it's pressure can only for veggies than I don't want it

It's sure nice to see people helping others with their skill, many people got away from canning due to convivence. Many people are losing these skills that are ancestors used all the time. Thank You.
Doing your beans outside reminded me of my grandma. She used to take her beans or peas and go out under their tree and sit and do them in the nice shade. I miss her a lot! Thank you for bringing back that memory.
Thank you for your wonderful informative videos.. your like my new favorite UA-cam go to these days since tis the canning season!! 😆 I haven't really canned in years, kind of lost interest but since I ran across your videos 2 weeks ago I been cranking out the food.. 7 quarts of carrotts, 14 pints green beans and 7 quarts of potatoes, greenbeans, onions with smoked sausage cubes.. this will taste so good when the snow is flying! Thanks so much for restoring my enthusiasm and thank Susie! 😊 ❤
Keep up the good work! Water bath canning is absolutely perfect. My mother did this for years which we never had any problems with. She even canned beef with this method.
I was today’s year old when I heard the term “rebel canner” on IG. Decided to see what was on YT about the topic…. Now I’m pretty sure this is how my Gran put up her veggies. I’ve tried to replicate her green beans by pressure canning them and have never achieved her yumminess! Thank you so much!!!!!
I've been doing my wild mushrooms the water bath method for over 50+ years and it also was handed down from my grandmother to my mother and then down to my wife and I. the mushrooms store for years and years without any problems what so ever fresh like you just picked them. Great video Thank you and God bless.
YOU Beautiful lady are a life saver. I was leery about can, been years since I had done it. But after watching you I feel very comfortable again. My great grand parents old Dutch and they water bathed everything. HUGE THANK YOU for sharing and teaching others.
I live in Middletown and the weather today was awesome. I went to high school in Lancaster and spent a lot of time in the Amish community. Nice breeze and a great day for canning. I'll be doing apples later and in a week or so making apple butter. I just started the canning journey and most of the growing season is over however I will be starting early next year and growing a small garden in Stackable planters. Love your channel and That 1870's Homestead. I've learned so much.
I’ve been looking forward to your next video and was hoping you would continue showing us the way you do things. Thank you for staying true to yourself. We didn’t get much green beans in our first planting this year, but we did just plant another round in hopes to get enough to can before the winter. I had bought some store bought green beans and canned those, I got 7 qts and had a little leftover and they went vacuum sealed into the freezer. I pressure canned them, but wish I had known they could be water bathed. Your beans are lovely. Both kinds. I can’t wait to try doing potatoes! Today I’m researching squash and canning them. We have lots of butternut from summer harvest, and just planted four different types of winter squash for the fall. If you have any knowledge of canning squash, I’d love to hear it! Keep up the great videos. Blessings to you and your family. 😊
I visited my amish friend today, we were discussing canning she told me that she has even canned her green beans at a higher pressure for 10mins instead of 25mins. In our area we would normally pressure can 10lbs 25 mins but she does 15lbs pressure for 10mins! Lol. She said her mother waterbathed everything. I toured her whole celler and she gave me some hot pepper butter..It was delicious 😋 I love learning new things and older methods are always better in my experience of things!
I'm surprised you have a amish fr who pressure cans, none herd in Lancaster County pressure can beans, just use the big canner n we get 27 to 32 qt jars in canner. Ive had some young amish married ask me about pressure canning but she was afraid to do on her own that way after getting a pressure canner at a yard sale, lol.
Hi L. And greetings from Australia. I absolutely love your canning videos. You really are a Legend in your own lifetime, a true domestic Goddess. Not to mention the best teacher I have ever come across. Thank You lovely.
Just water bath canned (not pickles) for the first time ever! 5 quarts of green beans. Thank you so much for your videos. I'll be doing a lot more canning from now on!❤
I have used water bath for my green beans for over 50 years and not one jar has gone bad. I pre cook the beans for at least an hour. Then I add them to the water bath which is already boiling. Then I can them for 45 minutes. They seal as soon as I pull them out of the canner. My mother and grandmother canned green beans this way. As I said before, I have not had a single jar go bad.
Bless you for these videos! I can alone since family lives out of town. So fun to have your videos on while I'm canning!! My mom in law gifted me her pressure canner! So excited and scared at the same time! Lol! God bless!!
Thank you, for another fantastic video! I really appreciate your work! I will say, again, people have been water bath canning for years, before they had pressure canners! Somehow, the species has survived! 😆 May God continue to bless the work you are doing!
Very helpful ! I water bath can, but I wanted to build my pantry and the tackle pressure canner. My wonderful husband bought me one for Christmas. Today, I am trying it out and doing my first batch of green beans. Wish me luck!
Yah I couldn’t tell the difference in the way they look. Today I water bathed chili beans . In spired by your water bath bean video. I am so happy with the way they turned out. Thank you for your videos and your inspiration!
I am French and we water bath... Just about everything! This pressure Canning is actually thé odd thing for me! Pressure canner are not readily available either so there you go! Take care!
Wow....bless your heart....that's a lot of work....so happy that you had a beautiful day to enjoy while preparing all of those beautiful beans. I sure hope your family appreciates everything that you do to help keep things going in the household. The amount of work that you do is not for sissies! SO happy I found you. One of the things that has kept me from canning is the pressure processing....I've done water bath for a few things and it wasn't at all difficult. I have two pressure cookers...a large one that was my mother's.... we had a larger family and she used it to make pot roast in...really good...I can do that here... The small one I purchased since my household was smaller and the big one was over-kill. I have subscribed to your channel and am anxious to try some of the things that you have water bathed. Thank you so much for patiently teaching us.
Hi friend thank u so much for sharing this video. It’s a beautiful thing in America that we still have options and freedom of speech. For someone that is new to canning I would highly recommend to do your own research on water bathing low acid foods like meat and vegetables, it’s a personal decision that one has to make. It’s an option. The canners that are made today are made so much better than the ones that my grandma had and there’s no fear in doing it. But if you feel that water bathing is for u then do your research FIRST and do your own experiments. It’s your kitchen your rules your family. Moreover I’d highly recommend to invest in the tools you need if canning is going to be a way of life for u to preserve food and make it shelf stable. This is the point. Making food shelf stable.
I just started following you and I have changed the way I can. Watergate and Alisha is my new way of canning. Oh and I share your channel with everyone.
Your so inspirational please do not stop doing what you do I'm learning so much from you I'm all about water bath canning and you have taught me so much thank you for all you do
What a great and simple canning tutorial this was. So glad your channel showed up in my feed! I've always wanted to learn how to can vegetables. Thanks for the video! Signed, your newest subscriber. PS, the nice relaxing guitar instrumental in the background is a super nice touch.
I have to admit I probably won’t ever rebel can but I stumbled on your channel and your voice is very soothing so I decided to stick around and see what you do. Blessings
Thank you! I've been on the lookout for green beans and it seems like they are sparse. I canned diced tomatoes your way yesterday and they came out beautiful! Ty again🙂
I did green beans in the water bath. I canned Susie’s potatoes today and wow, so easy and they look beautiful. Mine were pretty dirty from the farmers field so I did peel them.
I’m so happy to see you back and water bath canning. You go girl. Can you please ask your friend for a recipe for water bath canning regular beans. And do a water bath canning video for that please. I have looked and looked and I can’t find a recipe
Love watching your channel & methods. I'm a firm believer that the old ways are many times thr better ways. & you will always have someone tell you are wrong so our philosophy is #doingitourway...hence the name of our homestead. Keep on Making it Make 🥰
Our green beans are doing well with heaps of flowers so hopefully heaps of beans.I live in the tropics of Australia so our climate would be very similar to Florida,so different growing season to what you have. Thanks for sharing.
You should wash the beans BEFORE you cut them😊. You would be cutting dirty beans on a cutting board with the knife cutting dirty beans. Love watching you from Germany.
What is the elevation in your area? I want to try this and you have had me dive into the research. And I have read that the elevation could have different times of waterbath canning to get the temperature up to where it needs to be. (Rose Red Homestead) has a good explanation of this equation...And that is why pressure canning can benefit for some people. I'm not disagreeing with your methods. I think it's great that you are sharing these lost methods. I'm just trying to figure out what's best for my family. Honestly, I am scared to pressure can. I really need to get over this silly fear.
Hello Kelly, My elevation is 0-1,000 ft. Definitely continue in your research until you feel confident in your choice. It is a journey. I totally get it! Happy canning.
These are definitely not "lost" methods, they are the norm. It's how the vast majority of people on this planet can their food, and have been canning their food for centuries. Pressure canners aren't available and affordable everywhere. Rose Red Homestead is fear mongering for views.
@@MakeitMake Thats good to know! The boiling point at your elevation spread is 210-212 degrees F. The boiling point at 5000’ is only 202 degrees F. That would make quite a difference, I think.
Trust me when I tell you that you cannot mess up pressure canning as long as you follow user manual! I had a fear for 45yrs. As I lived through the 70s and watched a pressure canner explode in my Mother's kitchen. The lid flew off and stuck in the opposite wall, right past my head. I was afraid for 4+ decades and I started researching and never looked back. You can do it!! Good luck and always ask questions when in doubt. Just an encouragement as I was in the place where you are.✌🏼👩🌾🏡😊
Hey love your TShirt . In New Zealand we only water bath or rebel as you call it , don’t know any one that pressure cans . Also canning meat or potato is something I’ve never seen here either . But maybe the southerners do as us northerner aren’t buried in snow in winter like they are . Tho I’ve only ever canned Dilly beans , other wise I free flow snap freeze my beans into 5kg bag for winter . Saves me jar space for other things . Ball jars 🫙 are eye water expensive here reg mouth is $9.75 per jar ,box of 12 480ml is $140.00 , that’s why most of us reuse store brought jars.
That's what I did today, but with tomato puree. I usually pressure can it because I can double stack my canner, but not today. So, no babysitting for me today either. Thanks for sharing. Love your videos.
I like your method of water bathed beans...Mom and I put a tsp of salt per qt jar then pour boiling water in the jars and process them 45 minutes...(for qt sized bottles) 2 hours? Our house gets very hot doing it for just 45 minutes in NS, Canada during Summer months...LOL
Thank you for doing both. I have SEVERE Rheumatoid Arthritis so I water bath because I am unable to lift the pressure canner at all. I also have to pick jars up w a towel and support them under the bottom because I have dropped 2 jars w the “gripper” so this is how I do it and it works. 💕💕 for meat I will let my DD pressure can that for me. Just ❤️❤️❤️ how everyone is getting in on this whichever method you DO decide to us. It’s ALL a personal preference. 😉😉 Been canning for years. 😍😍
Please look up Mikhaila Peterson, she got RA before she was in her teens, had to have her ankle and hip replaced for she was 18, she accidently went keto and got soo much relief, she got soo healthy that she ended up pregnant and was having issues with the few plants she left in, she’s now on the carnivore diet, so are both of her parents, they had familial depression that only lessened on the carnivore diet. Don’t can plants, can meat… there’s a website called ‘meatheals’ please look it up🙏🏻 I don’t know how comments work in yt but I hope you see this and can get some relief🙏🏻 oh, and there are fb groups for keto and carnivore, there are tons of people healing….
So happy to see you showing both methods! just a shoutout to people looking for a green bean that will produce long time Jade green bean is amazing! Jr could you now show us spaghetti soup ? dying for the recipe.
Ya know what I did, I dehydrated mine…they turn out great threw them into a stew to see how they did 👍, does great…even just to snack on they are wonderful
I have been water canning my green beans and corn ten years n no problems ever. I water can them steady fir 3-4 hours. Also I have had my jars last for example 2017 to now which is 2024
Even with a water bath canner you still have to attend it to make sure it stays at rolling boil and at the water does not evaporate down so you're still babysitting whether it be the pressure canner or whether it be the water bath canner. With a pressure canner once I get it up to pressure and I can turn down the heat and I get it to a steady pressure I walk away from that too I'm within the area but I'm not standing right next to the pressure canner so I still find pressure canning much easier than water bath canning.
My wife had a stroke and I became her caretaker and took over all her chores. I appreciate your videos so much. TY
I've never used a pressure canner in my life.but can every year .never got sick ever.im sixty two years old .rock on rebels!

Thank you for all you do to help those of us who need guidance with canning
Thank you for spreading information on how to preserve food via canning using various techniques.
I love your channel! I learn so much every time. I live in NE PA and am started a small homestead this spring.
Get the presto electric pressure canner it's used for both water and pressure canning. It's paid for itself no babysitting while pressure canning
Thank you for sharing both methods. 👍❤️
I'll be doing a lot more canning from now on!❤
Love your channel! Came over from That 1870s Homestead. Be so blessed.
Do you add anything other than the water to your beans?
Thank you thank you thank you for taking the time to make these videos! You are helping so many people!!!
Bless you for these videos! I can alone since family lives out of town. So fun to have your videos on while I'm canning!! My mom in law gifted me her pressure canner! So excited and scared at the same time! Lol! God bless!!
You are the most refreshing thing on UA-cam!
Love you sharing the rebel canning!!!!!! That's how my inlaws still can green beans. We do 3 hours rolling boil, no vinegar, just salt.
Same here. I have a friend who adds a zinc tablet to each jar, says it keeps the beans greener.
Love the demo on both method of canning. Enjoyed it very much, and you have a lovely kitchen
Thank you, for another fantastic video! I really appreciate your work!
I will say, again, people have been water bath canning for years, before they had pressure canners! Somehow, the species has survived!
😆
May God continue to bless the work you are doing!
Very helpful ! I water bath can, but I wanted to build my pantry and the tackle pressure canner. My wonderful husband bought me one for Christmas. Today, I am trying it out and doing my first batch of green beans. Wish me luck!
Love watching you. Learn so much. Water bath was done well before pressure cookers, maybe you can call ‘rebel’ canning, ‘original’ canning. Lol
Yah I couldn’t tell the difference in the way they look. Today I water bathed chili beans . In spired by your water bath bean video. I am so happy with the way they turned out. Thank you for your videos and your inspiration!
I live in Spain, I water bath can everything.
I'm in the UK and I water bath fruit and veg, do you water bath cooked meats in Spain? I really would like to, but I'm a little nervous.
I am French and we water bath... Just about everything! This pressure Canning is actually thé odd thing for me! Pressure canner are not readily available either so there you go! Take care!
Do you add vinegar, lemon juice or citric acid? Or just salt?
@@lifeslittledelights8455 I have the questions as Jen
@@lifeslittledelights8455 I have the same questions as Jen. Thank u.
Best water bath explanation I’ve seen Thank you
Here from Rachel @ That 1870's Homestead. I have watched a few of your videos previously but now I am a subscriber!
Wow you live in paradise! Saving this video for next season 👩🌾 Thanks for sharing!
I just tried the water-bath method yesterday for the first time. I managed to get 5 quarts picked and processed. Thank-you.
Thanks for this…. I’m learning so much
PS love the Just For Jars lids… good quality
God bless you and yours 🙂
I love your shirt. Vintage '79 here. Represent 🙌
Great video with good knowledge..thank you for this video . Blessings ❤️
You are such an amazing women. I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you so much. God Bless you and your family ❤
I'm glad that you showed the comparison. Thank you
Love watching your channel & methods. I'm a firm believer that the old ways are many times thr better ways. & you will always have someone tell you are wrong so our philosophy is #doingitourway...hence the name of our homestead. Keep on Making it Make 🥰
Love love love your channel. This is how my granny canned her green beans.
This is awesome timing! I was hoping you would post this! Im cleaning my beans now!!
Awesomeness, thanks for another great stream 🙏🌹
Be so very blessed and encouraged. Love your videos.
You’re so amazing. I love all your videos. Awesome!
Thank you for the comment on the difference (or lack thereof) in texture. I had been curious!
Hello Kelly,
My elevation is 0-1,000 ft.
Just an encouragement as I was in the place where you are.✌🏼👩🌾🏡😊
You are such a good teacher!!
I’m really loving these videos! 🌻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I like the way in which you prepare for both methods
Love the outdoor setup 👍
Love your channel
Great idea. Side by side. Thank you
This is exactly how I make mine! Glad those are stringless. Only kind I grow.
Ya know what I did, I dehydrated mine…they turn out great threw them into a stew to see how they did 👍, does great…even just to snack on they are wonderful
I have been water canning my green beans and corn ten years n no problems ever. I water can them steady fir 3-4 hours. Also I have had my jars last for example 2017 to now which is 2024
Great explanations. God bless you.
I waterbath mine just like you did and my Grandma and Mother did as well their delish .Thank you ❤
Do you waterbath carrots? If so, for how long and salt and vinegar too?
You're so pickin cute!!!!! Thank you for everything. YOU ROCK!
