One thing I realized when I owned a plus-size clothing shop: A LOT of plus-size women don't want to spend a lot on their wardrobe. Most of are hoping that next year we will be down a few (or many) pounds. So investment pieces have to be affordable too. Tough order!! If I had one piece of advice to share with my plus size sisters, it's that you should dress your best, at any size!

Where are the actual investment pieces? This should have titled, “Where to find investment pieces”.

The men’s section is a gold mine for plus size ladies, men’s clothing is usually better quality than women’s clothing to begin with. I would also say target has who what wear and the quality is amazing, clothing can also be tailored for even better fit.

I have several more retailers for plus size! Bloomingdales on line is good. Talbots is good for classic suiting, shirts, etc., and also carries plus petite, so you can mix and match sizes for suits, but be careful of all the matronly schmata. Lord and Taylor is a good on line resource. Eileen fisher has a full selection of plus size garments, beautifully made in gorgeous fabrics- some items are a little hippy momma, but mix with other designers to modernize. Saks on line has a great selection for plus sizes.

Dress Barn is a store with a horrible name but has sizes 2-24. Great prices, coupons, and deals. They're online as well.

I love that you recognize that everyone has their fit struggles: tall, short, plus size, thin, etc. almost no one is a true sample size. Looking at me you wouldn't think I have issues with fit but I have super tiny shoulders and have to get every dress tailored. It's a pain, but worth it.

I won't buy online clothes. I've had horrible time with fit. You have to know which designers work with your figure before you start buying online no matter your size.

Exactly. Eileen Fisher is my go to for online shopping because I've had so many of her pieces that I've obtained a thorough knowledge of her line's fit. It also helps that her line is so simple because I don't have to guess about complicated cuts.

Ive purchased exquisite wools and silks and have clothing made in order to get high quality long lasting classic clothing that fits perfectly. I also purchase a great deal of clothing from Talbots online which i consider to be, while not exactly investments, moderately priced. Ive also got a collection of beautiful casual modal Tee shirts from Target. I think the key to buying fast fashion is feel and texture of the fabric as well as GENERALLY sticking to neutrals for color. This can make a garment look more expensive. I am a 14 WP so I can''t walk into Neiman Marcus or Bergdorfs and purchase designer off the rack, but I can explore them. What are they made from? What textures? Fabric content? Colors? Cut? What do investment pieces look like? This is valuable information when building my own wardrobe.

Lauren, You mentioned Marina Rinaldi; my go to is Lafayette 148, which is owned by the same parent company, Max Mara. Love their tissue weight leather pieces and gorgeous tailoring. They have an online store and is sold at Neiman's, Saks and Nordstrom which means you can find lots of goodies at Last call, Off5th and the Rack!

Thank you for the advice! I am very tall and plus size. This is a tricky combination. 6ft curvy up top and at the bottom. I am attending my daughter's wedding and need high end ideas. I will try your suggestions. Blessings.

I love Marina Rinaldi and Eileen Fisher. Nordstrom, Saks, and Bloomingdale's carry a larger selection of plus-size Eileen Fisher clothing than the EF online site. Cheers from Croatia!

Lands End has many plus size investment pieces. They go up to a size 26. I have found them to be true to size. I search for Linen, cashmere, cotton, ect on the site to find the good fabric pieces.

Lauren I love your videos they're so helpful! I'm a plus size girl with an hourglass figure and large books which tend ru always make me look heavier anyway. My question is, are there any alterations or tricks to dressing that create balance from the top to bottom bc I often feeling like my chest is taking over the show and that's not really what I'm trying to put out there. I'm. 40DD for reference and I'm 28 so I don't even know what I can get away with any more.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!

HauteLook.com, the realreal.com, Modcloth.com, pinupgirl clothing.com, QVC.com, KarenKane.com, Nyandcompany.com, mgemi.com for shoes, MonroeandMain.com has some nice dresses for ladies with bigger tummy like me, and Talbots.com and if you like vintage the Iguana store in Hollywood. These are some good places I found clothes that suit me. I am in my 40’s too and also learning to look more professional. Thanks to Lauren I became inspired to look my best and to do some research in good figure fitting quality pieces. And these stores and websites have helped me in my journey to dressing better. I hope this helps.

Hi Lauren. I love all of your tips on each of your videos.
A friend of mine who is plus size shops at Kiyonna online. I don't consider that vendor as 'investment', but they have some really gorgeous dresses. Thank you for a great and relevant channel.

Lauren, I have a question. You do such a fantastic job of giving excellent styling tips, I would love to see you do a small lookbook
of some looks in you closet. You said your style is "classy edgy", I love that. However I know you have to dress differently at ohther times. I would to see a sexy semi formal, classic business, and dressy casual attire lookbook of you. Thanks so much!!!

    Hi
    Just found your site.
I live in Miami and it would be great if companies would create clothes without polyester.... at least keep it to a minimum.
I was buying from All the stores u mentioned online, but I decided to look for a tailor who works on plus size bodies to sew some pieces for me in Italian light weight wool, silk , linen and cotton. I am tired of seeing an item that I love not always available in my size. Good fabric stores offer At least a larger percentage of breathable fabrics than is commonly offered in retail.
I will still buy items if I run across something of outstanding quality if I love it....
    .
I just wasted time ordering from J Crew. Time wasted looking for what I need, time reading fabric content, time opening boxes and getting pissed off because the pieces are cheap looking and Ill fitting, time I will waste having to go to the store for a refund.... soo not worth it.

So, you have no actual plus size investment pieces to show us (items you found on the internet) and you have no store links to get us started as to some nice pieces you found. I’m sure in LA, plus size is a size 10/12, where as the rest of the US, we know we can walk into a brick and mortar store such as Macy’s, Nordstrom (yes!), both in my Midwest city, and find plus size clothing by Michael Kors, Christian Sirriano, Universal Standard, and others. Have fast fashion tailored?!

I think it is SUPER disrespectful that the stores that you named will “let” us buy from them as long as we shop ONLINE!!! What kind of fraganackle B.S is that!!! As long as they don’t have to see my fat ass in their store, they’ll take my money!!!! This has to stop!!! Who needs to try on clothes more? A skinny woman or a plus sized? They won’t get a dime of my money, no matter how cute the clothes are.🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡

That was so informative.. I'm far away from plus size.. I'm very thin... And some how my waist is super thin giving me an hourglass like figure.. I'm the thinnest one in the family but I have plus size relatives who can get so much help from your suggestions.. But... I live in India and there are SO MANY stores... Who mess up sizes.. It's difficult for everyone to get something that fits nice and flatters.. Can you please suggest adorable online options that ship to India and have great pieces and are not hoaxes where the actual pieces are not like the pictures...!!! It's a struggle really to find anything that fits me I'm small..
