1. Perfect jeans 2. Fancy shoe 3. Classic handbag 4. A great t-shirt 5. Blazer 6. Signature outerwearm 7. Go to cocktail dress 8. No fail make-up look 9. A piece of jewelry that's you. 10. A hairstylist you trust
My thoughts: Im not so sure you need to buy expensive bags, shoes, dress etc. As long as you choose things that fit well with clean lines and or a timeless look it shouldn't matter how much they cost. The hair and makeup part i think is a good idea. I like the bit about having a signature makeup looks something simple and easy you can do daily or when you wanna fully looks put together. Even if its brushing your brows then throwing on some mascara and chapstick. Smart jewelry is also one of my favs that you mentioned. Simple earring, necklace maybe a watch or bracket with a ring or two sounds nice to me. Well kept nails are also important. Just like your hair ppl notice the condition of your nails. Just trim em and keep them clean maybe some polish if you like.
When I listen to stylish sometimes, I feel they are just telling people how to be shallow and insecure, by telling them without money to buy expensive luxuries they are nobody to be seen or heard. I hate designer labels because I always think there is nothing unique about a person when you have to strive to own something millions of people already have, you don't need to buy expensive label luxury to be presentable, classic, gorgeous, and elegant, the most important thing is to be clean, wear what fits you, wear a color that looks good on you, and be confident. How you feel and present yourself is more important than the expensive labels you wear. Make sure your wardrobe is clean fitting, and your accessories are not over down, shoes and bags with clean lines, fit well and look good. Go with a lot and lots of confidence.
A combination of your videos and Aly art videos have made it possible for me to find my signature style, upgrade my wardrobe and save a load of money/time because I finally know what to look for when shopping. Thanks so much for saving me time, energy and money.
I dont wear jewelry but I love to wear scarves instead. Would love a video about finding a classic handbag according to someone's style... classic edgy, preppy, etc.. thanks !!
If you can't afford Chanel, Balmain and LV, you can get very good quality timeless pices from Mid-end designers. You don't have to buy the super high-end designers. Dooney and Burke, Coach, Brahmin etc make good quality things that don't have to break the bank.
Love 💕 "The 10 Things Every Stylish Woman Owns" List. You got a fan. I will evaluate all your recommendations, my first start is my closet. Then create my shopping list of things for my future buys. Thank You Much, L
A great seamstress, to take in the waist, the hem, etc., so that if something needs adjusting, that you can’t do yourself, they can make it a great fit! It’s worth every penny!
I love your videos Lauren but I think maybe geography plays a part in what is perceived as "stylish". I'm pretty sure you would have to "up your game" in Los Angeles, Ca as opposed to say Medford, Oregon where I am from in order to be perceived as stylish. High end designer clothes or shoes might not even be recognizable in less urban locations throughout the U.S. but good style shines through no matter what the price point!! k
karen robinson- funny that you say this. I'm from the LA metro area (Orange County) born and raised and moved to Eugene, OR 2 years ago. Wow- what a difference in aesthetics and style. I kind of felt like I didn't fit in but then I said "screw it- I dress for me anyway!" I do see people carrying Chanel and Louis Vuitton here and wearing high end shoes but not nearly as much as in SoCal. People spend more money on active wear here- lots of TNF, Patagonia, Columbia, obviously Nike. So I might look "dressy" in comparison but I'm too old to change my ways 😂
Hi Jenni, LOL I think Eugene is a step above Medford. I spent most of my adult years in Eugene and they used to have some pretty good shopping there including a Nordstrom subsidiary called Place Two, The Bon Marche and also a fabulous store called Kaufmans which carried some high end designer clothes. All of these are gone now and yes "wilderness" and athletic wear has definitely taken over in our neck of the woods. But like you I'm going to wear my beautiful clothes regardless!!! Go ducks!!! k
karen robinson- yes Go Ducks! That's the best thing about living in Eugene. The college football culture is a blast- tailgating, going to games and just the energy of the town on game day. The secondhand shopping is great here as well as independent boutiques and we have Rack, Macy's, Sephora, Ulta, White House Black Market. But I come from a place where I could be at one of three Nordstroms within 15 minutes. And Saks, Bloomingdales, Chanel... sigh. You would think I've saved a lot of money living here but I've taken to online shopping 😂 I go up to Portland a few times a year to shop for shoes, bags, lingerie. Things that I want to see in person.
karen robinson I completely agree, where I live people just wear camo, athletic wear and dress like slobs. There is no mall where I live and there are just small clothing outlets like jcpenny, goodys, and maurices. Its ridiculous. I should probably just move someday lol
omg.. I was born and raised in L.A. and just moved up to Eugene about 2 years ago. When I first got up to Oregon I would get comments at work like "why are you so dressed up" when I was dressed in what I thought was casual but stylish clothing. Annoyed me at first and I felt pressure to fit in and dress down but I said "screw it" and dress like the L.A. girl I am. The upside is now I get to shop for winter coats/accessories that i didn't need in L.A. and cute hiking outfits are fun to put together.
I just love whatever you said .specially the hairstylist. Ohhh! God ,after so much of struggle I found one who makes me feel so comfortable. Thanks for all your tips. You are doing a great job
Love love love this. I would have loved to see your version of these stylish items like- outerwear, jewellery, cocktail dress, bag, shoe...... Please...
By the way I just want to also say that you can't stop what you're doing. As a personal stylist myself I'm looking at you as inspiration as well. Please don't ever stop I need people with drive like you to keep me going as well. Keep up the good work. -from Houston.
i don’t know about the states but where i live, channel and guess are old rich women’s bags. luxury bags for the youth is michael kors. why do i say this? just because you have a bag that feels like it is timeless doesn’t mean it will be
A pair of classic black trousers, whether they’re leather or some other flattering material that works for your body shape, I think they should be a staple.
white button downs don't suit all figure types. they are terrible on anyone who is top heavy or hourglass as they gape. And white on top heavy makes the whole unbalance thing even more so.
Thanks for this video, great practical list for most circumstances. Being in a true 4 season climate gets pricey when thinking of staple pieces. A parka for -40C and below, a cool wet season coat/jacket, the warmer transition jacket, and the +40C piece (does one even bother with a jacket/blazer at that temperature?) add up quickly, even on sale. The extreme temperatures I find harder to style because the options are slim, and don't necessarily fit personal vibes. Same for shoes and boots (think 6ft of snow to marshy swamp mud and flooding to dry ground). I don't know if there will ever be a day in my lifetime where a -50C boot does not look like I'm an Arctic explorer. :') Could you do a video on curating one's style for extreme temperatures? Thanks for creating useful videos!
I hear you about the blazer, but I still don't like them. I mean, I like them on other women, but not myself. I have worn mine with boyfriend jeans and a camisole as every instagrammer suggests, and got compliments for being stylish, but it just wasn't me. And whenever I saw just the top of me in a bathroom mirror, I felt like I was about to say: "If there is a loss of cabin pressure, the panels above your seat will open, and oxygen masks will drop down."
There's something to be said for adornment & fashion that resonates with our unique identity. Feeling good and feeling like, "me" matters!!!! A formulaic list can only be a jumping off point. Rules are made to be broken!!! It is after all just clothes.
New sub here! I remember when I bought my first "good" tee. Total game changer! I thought it was crazy to spend 100 bucks on a plain black tee but it fits me perfectly and looks great on its own or as a layering piece. I immediately bought the same tee in white as well 👌🏼 Love your list and I'm happy that I own these items. Amen to #10- I moved to a new state 2 years ago and finding the right stylist was a top priority!
Love your videos! Loving your back drop....Where did you purchase Hermes picture frame in the background?? Thank you and wishing you continued success.
Hi Lauren. Just recently found you and love your vids. I'm a starting out stylist in the midwest. I would love to see a video about how "you" would update and create specific styles with the basics. The basic black trouser, white blouse, skinny jean, black casual dress, etc. Thanks, Monica
Barbara Kelly Ralph Lauren, GAP, J. Crew, and Banana Republic have really nice blazers for women. They’re a signature cadet style that gives the illusion of having a perfectly shaped upper body.
Great advice! Would love if you can give tips on choosing and styling the white t-shirt and finding the best buys internet. I'm in the UK...recently discovered you. Glad I did!
Great information! Your camera angle when talking off camera looks a bit odd/distracting. Straight on looking directly at the camera would be much better.
Lauren is pretty great, and makes some high quality videos. And based on some of the work place fashion here in dc, She needs more viewers from the 20500...
When I listen to stylish sometimes, I feel they are just telling people how to be shallow and insecure, by telling them without money to buy expensive luxuries they are nobody to be seen or heard. Make sure your wardrobe is clean fitting, and your accessories are not over down, shoes and bags with clean lines, fit well and look good. Go with a lot and lots of confidence.
Hi Lauren. I've been watching your videos lately and I just wanted to say thank you for giving me a more defined style. However, I'm in my late 30's with children so I tend to dress for wear I am going and it's difficult to categorize my style. Is it possible to be a jack of all trades? Meaning: Feminine, sporty, chic, and causal. If so, what style would call this?? Just wanted a professional opinion. Thanks
I am so proud of myself! I literally have every single one of these hanging up in my closet right now and I constantly mix and match them to fit the occasion, time of day, mood...etc. 4 pair of great jeans (black, white, blue and burgundy) 2 pair of So Kate Louboutin heels (black suede & patent leather nude) 3 great bags (2 MK & a Gucci) 2 beautifully tailored t-shirts (black/white) (Literally) 10 blazers (3 black ones) #BlazerWhore 1 beautiful burgundy draped cardigan (among my trench coats, moto jacket, denim jackets, leather jacket...etc) 1 body con little black dress (as well as a little white dress lol) Classic smokey eye & bold red lip 💋 18k gold necklace & beautiful strand of pearls w/ matching bracelet I'm my own hairstylist (as well as my own makeup artist lol).
Save for retirement invest into your future and do things you love create good memories we live in an overly materialistic world when you ready to go I promise you all you will remember is the good memories and the people you loved
I agree with all of these - was afraid I would see the oft-recommended white button-down shirt - which does not work for all body types - and really happy to see that not included! Thank you. Any items left out? I would say a perfect pair of sunglasses... and I would say for those in colder climates - save up and get a cashmere or merino sweater in a flattering colour. Cheaper than a designer handbag and keeps one from freezing to death in -40C! As to disagreements... many people will never be able to afford a designer bag unless it's miraculously on discount at a thrift store. That doesn't happen very often, if at all! :) But there are great affordable bags by local hero-type designers who are not super well-known and that are affordable for people on pittances and health pensions. Saving money for health emergencies (e.g. unexpected dental work) is wiser for those on modest or low incomes to splurge a high-end designer handbag. Being snaggle-toothed is not stylish! ;)
veronica Moton I’ve travelled all over the world and have lived in 2 different countries (not associated with the military) and feel I have a great stylish look. I’ll always be a Southern belle though! Being a Southern belle isn’t about the way you dress, it’s about having impeccable social graces, poise, knowing when to listen and when to speak, manners, etiquette, hospitality, how to whip up a great meal, and knowing that family and friends are ultimately the most precious gifts of all.
@@WhatTheHellRachelle entitled to your definition 😂 but I'm referring to the style 😂😊😎 People in general should possess the other qualities 🤣😂 but we know they all don't 😋😊
That's exactly what I was thinking because in many areas of the world, a designer bag or high heels are considered "too much" and not classy at all...but I don't really think Lauren Messiah knows what she's doing, I mean this huge Hermes poster and white roses and stuff..looks very instagrammy to me and that's not the look I'm going for
I don’t agree with the designer handbag thing. A timeless stylish bag does not have to be something with a designer logo on it. Rather the opposite. Choose a well-made leather bag of an unknown brand that does not have a flashy logo, e.g. Volker Lang. With a Chanel / Louis Vuitton bag you just look like a wannabe / vlogger...
I always have this thinking that everytime i dress up nicely it always feels weird like "heck where is she goin?." I have read that personal look is important. but i dont know my self confidence and self esteem were all gone. 😫what to do? i love dressing up but dont have my guts.
I buy packs of men's Hanes white tee's. I love them. I get them dirty sometimes, but if they don't come out, who cares? 10 dollars a pack. I'll throw it away or use it for doing arts.
I have al these.. i am more for the handbag than the shoes.. And I think skincare and manicure pedi are also very important.. and clean teeth But you probably think that it is a part of your daily hygiene, why you havent mentioned it
I don't think that she was talking about cheaper bags as being stupid. I think that she meant when you do buy a more expensive bag, pick one that is timeless and not a trendy tacky bag that designers come out ever season (ex: Chanel buy bag in black is timeless vs the same bag in a crazy print and color is stupid). that's how I understood it.
Hi lauren let me start with saying that I love your chanel and Ive been following you for a good few months now and have bought a lot of clothes and shoes because of you :P I love your tips and generally I love fashion a lot but im a student/mom so a lot of the time I go budget and Ive found a few designer bag dupes (shockingly identical) for 100X less the price!! I mean I understand that the designer bag will be of better quality but I also know that is the name that ups the price soo much rather than the quality so I disagree with saving up your money to buy one designer bag when you can buy a dupe of it AND a trip/holiday somewhere with the rest of your money! Thats my only disagreement with this video but just want to clarify that everyone has a different budget ,different views, responsibilities and wants so some people are happier with spending their money to a bag or a pair of shoes others rather invest them into an experience like travelling etc. Again lots of love and id love it if you replied back about your thoughts on this xx

I came across your channel today, I just subscribed , you are the only UA-camr stylist that goes straight to the point and I love it! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
A great seamstress, to take in the waist, the hem, etc., so that if something needs adjusting, that you can’t do yourself, they can make it a great fit! It’s worth every penny!
I've been swapping my blazers alot lately for my black pleather moto. Every time someone compliments. It's fun to wear over business attire.

A pair of classic black trousers, whether they’re leather or some other flattering material that works for your body shape, I think they should be a staple.
Omg you are nuts! $300 for a button down white shirt! We are real people not rich celebrities
I dont care if I'm a millionaire, I am never buying a regular ass button down for 300 lol.
very informative video Lauren. Thank you
Love everything you mentioned . I think you forgot one thing . Something you wore in this video ( a white shirt ) .
Actually I noticed the white shirt and hoped she wouldn't include it, too cliche.
white button downs don't suit all figure types. they are terrible on anyone who is top heavy or hourglass as they gape. And white on top heavy makes the whole unbalance thing even more so.
Tashi Lhamo YES! I love white fitted button down shirts!
Very versatile
Love the content. Having pictures would be helpful for the fashionably challenged.
Well, they had to be 10! Three of my fave essentials that weren't on the list- sunglasses, perfume, signature lipstick
Been watching your videos for several months and I still learn so much from you❤️
Thank you for watching :)
Great tips and I adore your hat.
Where were you all these time? You're videos are relatable
Thanks for this video, great practical list for most circumstances.
Being in a true 4 season climate gets pricey when thinking of staple pieces. O have been watching your videos and are really nice, I'd like to see examples of classic bags. Thanks!!
Mean I'm a stylish woman yayyyy! I have all 💗💗💗
A pair of great sunglasses 😎
Mommy Is A Chef absolutely a must
Very nice helpful I agree with you 😉 the handbag 👜 will up your look instantly along with the blazer Yessssssssss!!!
I hear you about the blazer, but I still don't like them. I mean, I like them on other women, but not myself. I have worn mine with boyfriend jeans and a camisole as every instagrammer suggests, and got compliments for being stylish, but it just wasn't me.
I immediately bought the same tee in white as well 👌🏼
Love your list and I'm happy that I own these items. Amen to #10- I moved to a new state 2 years ago and finding the right stylist was a top priority!
I wish you would show examples so I know like what type of blazers
Love your videos! Loving your back drop....Where did you purchase Hermes picture frame in the background?? Thank you and wishing you continued success.
Love your vids, Lauren! Can you please do a video on basic t shirts ? Please ?
Love your content Lauren! Thank you.
I'm not sure about the t-shirt thing, this kind of casual may not work for some people. For instance, my "perfect tee" is silk v-neck top.
Agreed. As well, I consider myself to be very stylish and do not wear jeans. That's just not me.
Thank you! Love you and I would love to see more tips for women in their 50's. I need all the help I can get;)
I'd suggest a nice scarf also
Hi Lauren. Just recently found you and love your vids. I'm a starting out stylist in the midwest. I would love to see a video about how "you" would update and create specific styles with the basics. The basic black trouser, white blouse, skinny jean, black casual dress, etc.
Thanks, Monica
Where do you suggest i can find a nice good looking black blazer? One not heavyweight cause i live in SW Florida..i love them..thanks Barb Kelly
Barbara Kelly Ralph Lauren, GAP, J. Crew, and Banana Republic have really nice blazers for women. They’re a signature cadet style that gives the illusion of having a perfectly shaped upper body.
Boots! The perfect pair of boots in my wardrobe is critical. Love your channel by the way!
Great advice! Would love if you can give tips on choosing and styling the white t-shirt and finding the best buys internet. I'm in the UK...recently discovered you. Glad I did!
In subtropical Australia outerwear and jackets aren't needed, they just make you sweat.
What do I wear to have the hourglass look
Great information! Your camera angle when talking off camera looks a bit odd/distracting. Straight on looking directly at the camera would be much better.
Lauren is pretty great, and makes some high quality videos. And based on some of the work place fashion here in dc, She needs more viewers from the 20500...
Awesome information! Thank you
Love the new hair!
The little black dress
#1 No holes in the knees
@Aston 4Lyfe ok but let people wear what they want smh, i like my black distressed jeans, they make me feel edgy ;)
Visitor at least not as much as hers 😁
Truly stylish ❤️loved the entire video and you look really beautiful
A pair of diamond studs and strand of pearls
Mrs AMD Absolutely!
ABSOLUTELY
The studs especially!
thank you.............
Everything sounds good +Hats I would add
Very insightful..Love it
To quote you..."Perfect, perfect, perfect!" This is video is spot-on and I can't wait to share it! 🤗
Thank you so much :)
Hi Lauren. I've been watching your videos lately and I just wanted to say thank you for giving me a more defined style. When you said "it, stupid bag" it sent me on a flashback to when I worked at Nordstrom.I have like 10 blazers LOL
I subscribed even tho no examples shown, it's a great video.
You look lovely with this hair😍
That was a great list Lauren. Well thought out and not too hard for the average jo to achieve. 😀👍
I LOVE your last name. It’s such a powerful sounding name!
I am so proud of myself! I literally have every single one of these hanging up in my closet right now and I constantly mix and match them to fit the occasion, time of day, mood...etc.

Yeeessss!!! Thanks so much for this list!
Last time I saw you, your hair is short. Love the long hair on you.

Save for retirement invest into your future and do things you love create good memories we live in an overly materialistic world when you ready to go I promise you all you will remember is the good memories and the people you loved
Well said! Extremely materialistic superficial content especially the bit promoting signature items!!
M robin if you have the money why not
M robin she’s a fashion stylist. The video is clearly labeled. Why watch if you aren’t interested in investment fashion pieces?
Very nice video!
A white shirt. A good pair of sungalsses. AND always have your manicure and pedicure done properly, it is a sign of being put together.
I agree! 💚
Being snaggle-toothed is not stylish! ;)
Perfect Perfect Perfect 😃 love you Lauren
I just watched another video of yours with you with short hair.....wow🤤🤤🤤 you look gorgeous with short hair
loved the suggestions
A lot of women think they are stylish when they look like southern Belle's 😂🤣😊 Travel a bit and find out how style really looks 😂😊😋😘😎
veronica Moton I’ve travelled all over the world and have lived in 2 different countries (not associated with the military) and feel I have a great stylish look.
That's exactly what I was thinking because in many areas of the world, a designer bag or high heels are considered "too much" and not classy at all...but I don't really think Lauren Messiah knows what she's doing, I mean this huge Hermes poster and white roses and stuff..looks very instagrammy to me and that's not the look I'm going for
😏 A designer bag? Stylish on a budget 😇
veronica Moton 🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏
I don’t agree with the designer handbag thing. A timeless stylish bag does not have to be something with a designer logo on it. Rather the opposite. Choose a well-made leather bag of an unknown brand that does not have a flashy logo, e.g. Volker Lang.
With a Chanel / Louis Vuitton bag you just look like a wannabe / vlogger...
This video is awesome
A jean that has big big holes are not attractive but a bit distressed is ok and a great scarves spatially silk is a must
Love it
"Don't get a stupid bag!" 😂😂
Just found your channel and i love it! At times your camera angel is off and makes it hard to watch. Like you aren't facing your audience.
I always have this thinking that everytime i dress up nicely it always feels weird like "heck where is she goin?." I have read that personal look is important. but i dont know my self confidence and self esteem were all gone. 😫what to do? i love dressing up but dont have my guts.
Yea, I have all 10 🎉💃🏼🔥🍾
Ok ...I own all of them...yaaa
I buy packs of men's Hanes white tee's. I love them. I get them dirty sometimes, but if they don't come out, who cares? 10 dollars a pack. I'll throw it away or use it for doing arts.
Your long hair 😩😍
Love evreything you mentioned.
Go to pair of sunglasses 😎?
Some people live places where there is close to no sun :P
Glad that I already have everything on the style list, although I need a few more cocktail dresses. Thanks
A good manicurist
I have al these.. i am more for the handbag than the shoes..
And I think skincare and manicure pedi are also very important.. and clean teeth
But you probably think that it is a part of your daily hygiene, why you havent mentioned it
The fact that you can afford luxurious fancy stuff doesn't mean everyone can. "Don't buy the it stupid bag" ???? What a thing to say
You can saved to buy a quality bag that will last you years to come.. nothing wrong with a “it stupid bag” I love them too lol
It bags aren't cheap and they change every year or so. I agree though that many of us can't afford high-end designer bags, not even on markdown.
I have a basic grey Rag and Bone shirt that is my go to. By far my favorite shirt! 👍
Best tee shirt ever!!!
Nice video and recommendations. I just made a similar video!! 👍👍👍
