I like how it shows him to be a badass and a nice guy all at once, he’s a well trained soldier but a good dad and sweet man. Arnold really got to show his nice side and heroic mannerisms in this. Arnie was the hero from Austria who America loved and still accepts today.
I love him because he is Austrian. Man from former enemy7 country who made himself to be most loved to Americans. Just like Japan. If you cant beat them, conquer their hearts.
My Dad took me to see this at the movies in 1986 when I was 14. That day Swindon where I lived hosted the under 21 Italy v England football match. When we drove home all the Italian fans in their cars were beeping their car horns.
It showed love and a quiet skill. If you aren't watching carefully your hardly notice the tree, or the way he uses the axe to quietly usurp his foes clever stalking. Wildly imaginative way of the director flexing his talents
One thing I love about this scene is that John Matrix is actually a loving supportive father to his daughter. In most of these "Papa Wolf" stories (Taken, God of War, Big Jake, etc) the father tends to be distant, gruff, estranged, or even borderline abusive towards their kid.
This young girl is also Sam and Phoebe from one about who's in charge and one about being beguiled or enchanted the they are pre-Christians as one of them floats and flies around in the air which is a pretty interesting thing to do is be disobedient to pulls of Earth's gravity.
Lol.....back when Melissa Madonna was not a psychopath. Ever since the election occurred these past couple years she's turned into a complete wacko.😂😂🤦♂️

These are among the loveliest and most touching scenes between a father and daughter I've ever seen on film. The chemistry between Arnold and Alyssa, James Horner's score... Who would've thought of that from an over-the-top action movie? The scenes between Rocky and his son in Rocky IV (released the same year) are also touching - and inspiring.
i loved that transition from brutal man with a tree to happy loving father. Beautiful music by James Horner made this scene amazingly touching. Wish modern films have more scenes like this
I thought "Commando" was Alyssa Milano's first acting role before her "Who's The Boss?" TV sitcom. I was mistaken. Looking up the film's principal photography and shooting dates (which started April 1985), this was in fact done while "Boss" was on hiatus between its first and second seasons.
Rigger, Soy boys everywhere!!! Which sucks for woman like me! I’m a true feminine woman (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH EVIL FEMINISTS) I’m only attracted to Alpha Male types!!! They are a rare commodity these days!!! 🤦🏻♀️😩🤔🤨
I really love the scenes with John and Jenny early in this movie. Super sweet, amazing chemistry. Shows a very healthy relationship, with how Jenny's not timid about messing with him even though he's strong and muscular - they really are close, much closer than I was with my parents for example. Also sets the stakes super well for the rest of the movie, and it all is done in a very quick and compact manner. This movie gets memed about a lot but this intro is really, really good. And also, this is why backstory in the beginning is good. This movie would be much weaker without these moments with his daughter. We wouldn't care nearly as much.
I remember watching this on tv when l was a kid in the 80s in Australia and the censor was so strict they cut the scene were Schwarzenegger was teaching Alyssa Milano the karate move and just showed her hugging him.
Paul3165 Wow! So if they cut that scene out then how much of the movie did you actually watch in Australia? Most of the movie is arnold kicking a$$ and racking up the body count..
Gazmend Dauti if thats the case, the movie ended when the trash men came..... from there on its COMMANDO TIME!! To much for kangaroo jack to handle....
This is absolutely beautiful. You are NUTS if you dislike this scene. A father and his daughter laughing and playing together, full of love and joy. It makes me very happy to watch happy people.#familygoals
The fakest looking log I ever seen. check the end as he turns. ha ha. Back then though I was well impressed by this scene. Dad Dad look that dudes got a tree on his shoulder and you have to use a tractor. ha ha
I had a class discussion back in 1990 here in Melbourne Australia as to how Arnie was able to carry the tree log with such ease...everyone laughed at me and said Arnie was carrying a fake tree log...made of plastic material...if you take a look at the end of the log it is true

And he maintained that reputation even after becoming a politician. I’ll bet not many people can say the same!
Fun fact: Arnold was super protective over Alyssa Milano when they filmed this movie. He even helped her with her homework 😂
Why are you making me cry?!!
They wrote a report on Girl George.
There is even a picture of her cuddling up with Vernon Wells on IMBd, which is no surprise, child actors often bond with their adult co-stars..
