In this video I take a look at a feature of the Line 6 Helix that a lot of folks are unaware of. The creative us of paths can open up a lot of doors and make the Helix a very powerful studio, live and practice tool. I truly hope you enjoy the video and find it helpful.
As always, thanks so much for watching...

This is really cool feature. Our bass player once forgot he's quad cortex home. My helix saved the gig. Just hooked the bass in its own signal path with some simple stuff and that's it 🙂
We've been using this as well in the studio: two guitars, each split in to two paths, one going to an amp (panned left or right), one going to our Zoom H8. Works great.
I set up the snapshots so that each of us can have specific effects on as needed during the song. I surmise that I could even get a foot pedal for him to use to control but we haven't needed that yet.
The only real drawback is that we're slightly limited on how complex of a signal path we can get, but we haven't found this to be a major limitor (so far).
I never used to pay attention to those pop up notification about new video's on youtube. But when I see it's you in the preview box I click and take a look at your new video. Always worth the watching, learned a lot about my Helix from watching your video's. Thank's for taking the time to make them.
This is a great video. It opened up a lot of various ideas I'm excited to try. Thanks. 🎸
Thank you and glad it was helpful :-)
I have a Piezo electric guitar that has 2 outputs. I've been using a complicated system of routing changing with a return on a parallel path. But splitting it out as a separate path and just sending both to the same output make so much more sense. Thanks.
Awesome. Was wondering how to share my helix with another player sometimes.
Also big eye opener to mic processing! Thanks 🙏🏻
Still amazed at how well Line 6 engineered this unit.. In so many respects, they’ve always been on the tip of the spear. Especially in the digital and modeling realm.
Great video. Was exactly what I was looking for + more. Thank you!!!
My pleasure and glad it was helpful 😀
Hi Jason, why you don`t use the AUX input? Is there a difference between AUX and Return?
Helix LT doesn't have an aux. But it can do exactly the same as this with a return.
@@NedJeffery But Helix Floor does have an Aux input.
aux input is line level rather than instrument, made for things like track playback or keyboards, etc. the return can be set to instrument level.
i do this kinda. The top goes to my power amp and into my cab, and the bottom goes direct into my in ears
aHA! I saw you create a third path once before and couldn't find it again. Ive never seen anyone else do that, thank you!
I've been doing something similar to this for a few years now, splitting the guitar (bass) input to both paths to run the two channels of the Busy One (Pearce BC-1) bass preamp model, and use it just like I did the actual preamp, where I can switch between the two channels or combine them. Clean channel runs on one path, and distortion channel runs on the other. They are split between the two XLRs (record) and 1/4" outputs (amp and cabs). The ability to do this was the reason I bought my LT three years ago, to replace my destroyed BC-1.
Great video! You gave me some confirmation which I wasn't sure before!
I'm using this solution to create wet/dry/wet. First path is 4cm with Marshall JVM. JVM line out goes to second path with delays and reverbs an go out to stereo FRFR.
JASON - you, my friend, are a SAINT.
You mentioned it, in passing, that the SECOND DSP is ran on the SECOND LINE....
Since I got the unit, I had the "Preset Spillover" set to on, which removed that second line. I thought, no big deal, I can just drag and drop down.
BUT, I was SUPER LIMITED in what I could add...I found the DSP allocation chart and seeing that amps take 35-45%, Stereo Delays 20%, KOT 20%....I figured...well, that's all she wrote.
THEN I turned it off, and I could add TWO MORE HELIOSPHERES, DYNAMIC REVERB, AND AN AMP/CAB COMBO on top of what I already have..................
GAME
FREAKING
CHANGER
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
This was s very informative video. Thank you.
My pleasure and glad you enjoyed!
Great very quick vid Jason, steve sterlacci did this with two inputs one guitar and one auxiliary from the send/return . I was going to try and have a Jam with me on guitar and aux on bass not tried yet! But didnt know i could run a line for mic very cool stuff .
Wow! Powerful! Thx Jason
Truly amazing. If I tell the guys in the band they will expect to just show up with a guitar and a mic to gigs and leave me to set up..lol.
I’ve been looking for this exact explanation. I’m looking for a unit to process the magnetic pickup and piezo bridge separately. So far I think the Helix is the only one.
Mind blowing
Excellent video Jason, really appreciate it.
My pleasure John! Hope you are doing well 😀
@@JasonSadites Everything is great. Hope you and your family are doing well. Once I retire, the wife and I will have to make a trip to Canada just so we can meet in person. Later bud.
I’ve been doing this for 2 acoustics but I’ve used the aux input.
Also maybe guitar split signal into the two inputs where one chaiin is physical pedaltrain? Probably there are better ways to accomplish fast switching for this scenario?
I've been doing this for quite a few years, to allow our singer to play occasional second guitar, without having any extra gear in stage. A bonus of this is, as the primary guitar player, I get to set all the tones and levels for both of us, which is great for consistent live balance.
Wow 👀 I’m running w/d/w and lost my mic 🎤 because I was using it on processor line 2. Gonna try this with mic 🎤 and XLR out again. Thanks
Worked perfect. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🎤 Got the mic, studio comp and verb back out on XLR. I was concerned about dsp but my Synergy Syn2’s and or Mesa Mk3 are the amps being used and I don’t eat up dsp on the digital amp/cab side.
Great video! One question. Is it possible to have an acoustic and an electric all going into the helix looper in the same preset?
Great stuff!!
Thank you 😀
Is this in effect using the Helix as a mixer?
Is this also possible with the Helix Lt?
I've been trying to set up a Pan left/right for the pedal but only during on demand "Switch" so the pan comes back to center when not engaged, I keep searching for a patch that does this but no luck, maybe this might be a way.
Great video Jason. Speaking of the path, in almost all of my patches I use two amps. One is sent out 100% left and the other 100& right for a stereo effect. I hear that I lose a lot of volume and often have to set the channel setting to 10 but that does not make up for the loss. Do you have any suggestions to get the volume back?
is there any way to flip the phase on one of the patches?
Jason, your video is not able to play when you click on the link
Seems to be working fine here...does it work for you know?
@@JasonSadites yep! Not sure what happened but thank you for whatever you did to fix it.
@@ronkauffman4184 no problem, but I didn't do anything 🤣 Glad it is working though!
@@JasonSadites 🤣 it’s probably my reverse Midas touch
🤣
A button to mute my fellow guitar player? Yes please!
🤣
