You really saved my bacon on this video. Tried for two days to figure out the wiring on my old Harada antenna. Did not realize the the green and red both had to contact the positive terminal for it to extend and retract. I was able to get it to retract but not extend. THANK YOU.
thank you for showing how it works, specifically the wiring. i couldnt tell which wire was for the power antenna on my radio since it originally did not have a power antenna, since you explained how the antenna cable reacts, i used a multimeter to identify which wire delivered 12v only when the radio was turned on and then i knew that was my antenna wire.
Thank you so much for this video; Like others, it saved my bacon. The key was the grounding of the mast housing, a detail missed in the factory instructions. This video made the problem easy to fix.
Nice Video... Thanks! One issue I had was when wired to an acc circuit (hot only when key is moved to accessory / ign) the antenna failed to retract when I left the radio on but took the key out. Obviously with the key out there is no longer power to the antenna to make it go down. I wired the red to a permanent live (on the Dome circuit out of interest) instead and now it retracts if I turn off and jump out the car without having to shut off the headunit first. When you get back in and the key is turned to acc/ign the headunit resumes whatever you were listening to when you got out and the antenna goes back up.
Thanks, I am having a problem with my Lexus GS300 after fitting an after market dvd/sat nav player the aerial doesn't rise. I will now try again after watching this video, it also has 3 wires.
thanks. Your explanation helped me a lot today in correctly understanding the wiring on my antenna. I thought the red and green wires were for polarity switching (up and down modes) with the black wire being a common ground wire. The Chinese need to get there instructions more clearer on the packing box. Thanks again.
The one I bought has three wires. No blue but green. Nothing happened when connected black and red to battery and green(as trigger) to red as illustrated unless if connected black and red directly to the motor from battery.
I should have watched this before my install effort. 😀 The antenna I bought only has two wires and I determined after installation, there was no ground through the fender. I made a ground wire and attached it under a screw on the antenna body to a confirmed ground on the radio cable. Unfortunately, no joy, and even across the battery, no antenna function. A DVM check across the two antenna wires revealed no continuity. Is that what the police call a clue?
Anyone know of a video showing how to wire the power feed to a new antenna unit? In other words, severing the power connector wires from the original harness and wiring it up directly to the wires of the new unit? I can’t find anything online or here.
Ok so why does my antenna work the other way around ? The black goes to 12v and both red and blue go to ground and when i disconnect blue from ground it retract? It's blowing my mind
The radio would have to have that mode as an option. Other than that you would have to install cutoff switch to the blue or green wired to the antenna.
Can anyone help me My one has red and green wires and I’m stuck. Black is connected to ground, My car has blue and red wires but my aerial has red and green wires.
How can I fix the problem of the antenna going in the opposite direction than it's supposed to -- up when powered off, and down when powered on? I have an aftermarket radio installed but with what I believe is the correct wiring harness. Is there a simple fix for this out-of-phase issue with the relay?
Help. I have a Realistic Radio shack AMFM 8 Track player. Yes it works great. I bought a 90 Buick with a junk radio. I understand power & ground speaker wiring. How do I get the power antenna to go up when radio is on & down when radio turns off. I have no other wires coming out of the radio to move antenna. There is a relay that switches power to extend & retract antenna. Would just hooking up Blue antenna power to a switch power source make antenna extend without running all the time? I tried to replace the original radio with a ebay radio. No luck. I have this radio shack radio that works great & I have the newest speakers I could find to fit in my Buick Estate wagon.

I bought a new antenna for my Eunos Roadster and was wondering how to trigger it, this video explains it. Thanks for uploading it guys.
;) it's what I do. Glad it was helpful.
Exactly the info I was searching for. I want to make sure mine works before I install it.
This video does not show you how to wire an automotive power antenna its like an open box and describes whats inside.
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much.

So please explain more about the red and what it does
Thank you for your video - I have a Antique Sparkomatic SA 301 which has 4 wires and a switch. How is that wired?
One is power, one is ground and ....
Do you need a relay to install this antenna?
ive got an old one in my car and it stopped working so i am wondering if it might be the relay
Thank you even though my new antenna wires are black green and reddish it works the same , good information.
What’s the length of this antenna?

Thank you. This helped me to install this antenna today. Thank you for the principle.
Excellent!

thanks for this video. i want to remove my Pajero antenna. where should i start?

Um for that you need to tell what vehicle you are trying to get this done on.
So the blue wire is for sound too
I think it is only a trigger wire.

How to make antenna retract ONLY on fm mode of the radio, so when I listen to cd or USB stick the antenna stays in down possession?
The radio would have to have that mode as an option. Other than that you would have to install cutoff switch to the blue or green wired to the antenna.
Simple explanation much appreciated
Great video........fixed my Jag perfect. Thanks!

Change the polarity
Sorry, I'm an idiot. What do you wire the blue cable to so that it detects when the radio is in turner mode or receiving power?
There should be an output wire coming from your radio, usually blue, that controls the antenna.
My new pioneer AVH X390BS does not have the blue wire....
@@xpectz it does have an antenna control wire
Is there an antenna like this but without the fish pole? Looking for a short stubby but with that setup (red, blue wire, antenna cable)
No, typically 28" is the shortest power antenna like this.
can this be rigged to be powered by a wall outlet?
Evan W just buy an AC power adapter that plugs into your wall. Make sure its a 12 volt adapter.
@@allthingssilver7635 ...with sufficient current capability.
How much
35-40 ish
What if the motor works but it's only missing the antenna portion?
A lot of times you can get the mast with the gear tape attached
you can get the mast ''antenna'' byitself from walmart or autozone cheap or ebay or amazon...
Thanks!
Thank you boss
Great job!
Great! thanks for the write up.
Thanks , perfect info for me!
Cheeers!
Hard to figure out 3 wires... i now understand why boomers hate ECU (hate comments coming right now).
Mine doesn't work I tried everything I know what I'm doing. This more be a new broken one
