      I'd give For Science! a shot. I also agree that colony management is the main reason I bought the game, but science progression is a bit better thought out than KSP 1 and I think it's worth a try before colonies comes out.

    Rocket tech here; definitely a bug with the heating. I think ksp developers do have heat transfer between parts in a stack but it shouldn't be that much, that's what the heat shield is for anyway... It does take a long while for things to cool down in space in real life so there's that....

    at launch, I managed to launch KSP 2, On 1060 6gb On Kerbin I had about 15-20 fps, so this result was kept at both low and high settings, in space it was about 30-40fps, but if I started looking at the planet, the Fps immediately dropped to 15-20.
    With the improved performance of For Science, I think it will start to be playable.

    Stack separater and orbit lines vanishing have been my "bug" bears so fay, but overall it's soooo much less frustrating. As usualy first Mun mission has become a rescue mission. Tim got stuck and Jeb says it's his fault for stealing his seat. Though going to rescue him with Val is definitely not going to hurt his ego.

    There were energy conservation bugs with the heating system in KSP1 when it was introduced, and floating point error causes issues with energy conservation in the heating system when plying with Kopernicus still. I would assume the heating issues are some kind of problem like that once again.

    I am very thankful that you guys, particular you and Matt Lowne because you are the ones I follow, are spending so much time on this and providing the devs with hugh quality feedback and playtime.
    I played KSP1 and bought KSP2. I don't think I will play significantly until resource management is back. Playing KSP1 simply takes too much time finding the correct mods and KSP2 isn't in an insentivising state. I don't want to play without my mechjeb. And I hope to sometime play with my children full mission IVA multiplayer. I believe Nate is the one to get us there. He is the guy to get us there. But I can't do more for the process except the KSP2 copy I bought at launch. For the rest I depend on you.

    I love this update, it takes the science system from KSP 1 and just improves it. It also vastly improves the performance of the game, making it actually good on my computer (RTX 2060 TI). My only gripe is the current state of re-entry heating, it is too buggy and needs more optimizations. A quick patch in a couple weeks or so should fix it.

    I played the ipdate for a few hours yesterday before watching this video, and can confirm i am having WAY more fun in KSP2 now! My simple rockets don't wobble, the main and side missions are fun and give some sort of purpose for building, and the tech tree is a welcome change. The only "bug" i encountered was a rocket in orbit not firing its engine until i paused and unpaused the game. Other than that, i can see my personal time now being split more evenly between ksp 1 and 2.

    I'm not crazy about how buggy the heating effect look but that's something that is likely to get fixed as more updates become available. other wise though I'm more than happy with the update as you've shown it. that being said I'm not gonna try it on my computer yet. It hardly plays the game for a few minutes before crashing prior to the update arriving. I'm not certain how it'll handle it with the new effects it would have to handle on top of it.

    Hey, nice video as always! I'd like to give you a feedback on the sound, at least in my end, sounds like the high pitched sounds of your voice (like S and SH) are too louder than the other frequencies. I played within the first two days it was out and had moderate issues getting into orbit. I have played KSP for many years but I don’t get to play very often. I’ve played maybe three times since February but jumped back on right after for science came out. No issues getting into orbit with a relatively small rocket right off the bat. Worlds of differences between the initial release and 0.2. Can’t wait to play more.

  • @matje103
    @matje103 4 місяці тому +1

    Your review is spot on. I have quite a few hours in the original game and I was one of the players that bought the game in February. The game was on my wishlist for about 1 and a half years so you can imagine the disappointment I felt when I couldn't do even a simple mun mission. I won't go on a rant here but the game was not playable (disappearing crafts/orbits and more gamebreaking stuff, not to mention the terrible performance).
    Decided to give the game another go after for science and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. The game obviously still has many bugs, but I haven't ran into any gamebreaking ones or ones that couldn't be fixed by loading an older save.
    Best part: I had fun! Exploration mode is such a great improvement. It feels like a real game now. There's actually stuff to do besides watching your wobbly rocket go upside down at 20 fps.
    To me this version is the rough diamond KSP 2 should've been at launch. I'm excited for the colonies update. We'll watch your future with great interest KSP2!

    Autostrut with only the heaviest part setting always seemed to lead to shaking for me in KSP1. I would always combine all three methods across a few different parts (very situationally) which is why I’m sad it’s a global, automatic system- but switching to grandparent part should make the rockets a lot more stable just from my brief testing today and thousands of hours in KSP1.

    I'm looking forward to what is still to come. Colonies are what the devs have been consistently saying is the major update that they find the most fun, but for me I want to see how they will simulate interstellar. Many games have storylines that involve interstellar travel and they have storytelling tricks to get you there. But I have yet to see anyone try to simulate the whole process of leaving your star to travel to another: something truly UNIQUE in gaming.

    So far, the only "bug" I've encountered that isn't in the list of known bugs is a couple flaws in the verbal recording of the first few training courses. The reader misses a period which changes the meaning at one point and at another the information at the end of a sentence just isn't quite right. Unfortunately I have encountered so many bugs, its insane. Many times where i have upgraded a tech tree node and it didn't register but i lost points anyway. Reverting flight causes VAB to mess up and it can't show any stats like delta-v, fuel etc. Launching after reverting causes insane perfomance issues so probably some memory problems there too. The parachutes are messed up. The delta-v readout is messed up when using srb. I get one value in VAB but when i go to launch the d-v changes. The tech tree screen is somehow locked at 19 fps for me. I could go on and on but I really hope they can improve performance and fix obvious bugs because it gets annoying really fast and is the number one thing that keeps the player from playing.

    I think the 'meter' going up is not heat but damage. That is why the parts don't 'cool' back down, because it's not heat, you are seeing, but damage. The fact that the occlusion does not work for decouplers seems weird though.

    I've now played it for a few hours. I've not gone beyond LKO yet but the game is much better now. No more game-breaking bugs, like unstable orbits. I was also able to play at max graphism very smoothly. No crash so far. Not everything is yet there and I miss the precision of manoeuver plans that was provided by the MechJeb mod, but the game is fun to play and the graphisms are much better than KSP1. One also can feel that everything is thought for making colonies and interstellar travels possible. The game is definitely going in the right direction.

    I'm already playing the science regularly in KSP2, have a few bugs here and there but overall everything works fine.
    -- I've one particular bug when all the crafts/kerbals are pixelated when taking control of them from tracking station and they are looks static *They look pixelated same as from the movie PacMan or something like that*, solved the bug just with simple reloading the save
    All in all, the game is much more playable, first I haven't been able to play at all at average of 10fps, right now with the update my game is in turbo mode literally, with average FPS of 100+. When I limit the FPS to 60, it runs even better.
    I have Intel I7 12700 CPU, 32GB DDR5 Ram and Radeon RX 590 GPU 256bit 8GB GDDR5

    The only reason to want to switch to KSP2 is better planet rendering (assuming Parallax 2 isn't sufficient for me). However, in KSP2, the planets are not rendered better, so I'm sticking with the KSP1.

  • @Adesterr
    @Adesterr 5 місяців тому

    Yeah, that reintroducing of already fixed bugs is a bad sign in my opinion. Besides the point that you have to invest a good amount of time to re merge the bugfix into the main (i think that is what happened here. They merged feature branches into the main that did not yet had the fix for the bug and therefore introduced it back into the game), it also shows the lack of behaviors that are essential to maintain long term software developing. Like branch management, the daily burden of merging necessary things into your feature branch, which will cost nerves and time, but actually will save you nerves and time in the long run.

    I still feel like 40 bucks/euros (after the discount they made for this Christmas) is too much for an early access game. If this is the price now what will it be when the game will have completed all its course and the multiplayer update comes in? Or do they plan on making people buy early access (and accepting the risk of them messing up and actively contributing to bug fixing) pay the same as people who will buy the final version of the game with no risk of seeing the game development take a bad curve? There are companies that pay people to play test and report the bugs and show how to recreate them, if you buy this game in early access and spend your own time doing that work for Intercept Games I am 100% convinced you should never have to pay the full price.
    That's literally the price of the original KSP (without any discount applied to it) which judging by all the content I've seen from all you content creator guys, is still equal or better than the sequel in literally anything at this point in time (if you allow for mods that is).
    I feel like they have messed up the price point. But it might just be me, i don't know.
    At this point in time I still am not convinced of buying the game sadly. I will wait for the next big update and see if maybe then their early access will be worth a AAA game price (without discounts). Maybe they massively improve on bug fixes and people like you who get to experience it won't claim "you will encounter bugs and some of them will be annoying, but you will be able to work around by reloading saves or restarting the game". Cause that kind of gameplay (avoid to do certain stuff or doing certain stuff for the sole purpose of avoiding a bug) to me is not worth the pricetag they attached to it.

    Is the entire mod ecosystem now there? If not, I don't even wanna know about KSP2. I already have the Earth and solar system completely simulated and rendered with OK shaders. Don't wanna get back to a simplistic system, with minuscule planets and no atmospheric simulation. Oh, they put that one mod from the one in the second game, huh, wonderful.

    Unfortunately this update change something about how vehicles/workspaces are saved so it no longer works for Linux/proton. Can't save workspaces which also prevents launching. I know Linux is not supported but it was nice that the previous version worked in linux anyway if you bypassed the launcher.
