THE DUNA DEVOURER - An Over The Top Opportunity Rover Tribute
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- It was April 17th 2015 when I send a massive Duna Rover into space. I thought I'd revisit the idea to honor the passing of NASA's Opportunity rover that is now stranded on Mars.

There is nothing cooler than rovers with actual functional interiors. Amazing work.
There is no such thing as an over the top tribute to Opportunity. It deserves the most elaborate trivutes we can muster!!
17:36
Oh no... you're not going to do this... HE'S ALREADY DOING IT!!! **wheeze**
Hey Nasa he´s serious
@@kcasc_hd
LOL :)
Over-engineered? That's KSP veterans in a nutshell
I am a bad player so I usually use rockets with like 10.000 m/s to do interplanetary trips
@@Janthonyjo lmao feel it
This is by far the most innovative and comprehensive KSP mission I have ever seen on UA-cam. This is an entire functioning ecosystem to study the planet, rotate crew, refuel, and return to kerbin. It is All REUSABLE. I am absolutely amazed. Such an inspiration.
Thanks! If you like this, you should check out my Jool colonization mission:

I am astonished by your ability to make such complexes things. Seriously, i find all that awesome and also beautiful to see.
You should make a tour video of your save file, visiting all the vessels you've made
It‘s huge, it‘s ridiculous, it‘s unnecissarily complicated.
That‘s why I love it.
I think you can set the reaction wheels to "SAS only" to stop your rover from flipping every time you try to turn.
I remember the X surprise xD
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the descent stage looked like the TRON ship. Good movie
Also Knight Rider? You have nothing except exceptional taste my dude
That shovel tug is amazing
this ain't your classic tribute but for ksp it is
normal
This "shovel" idea is so great!
I really love your work.
Best craft I've ever seen
By far the best KSP videos on UA-cam
One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in ksp.
*WHY DIDN'T UA-cam NOTIFY ME THAT SHADOWZONE POSTED???*
I guess they were too busy watching his video :)
Coz the're evil capitalists only interested in making money of course! (no)
Actually youtube messed up with sorting algorythm recently, do it's expectable.
*so
@@user-yj7ks9mb1e I choose to belive the first explanation
That little rover was BADASS! By the way after your little Scott Manley vid I'd like to make a request: MOAR METAL IN KSP PLEASE
14:33 I knew he was gonna mention Knight Rider/KITT xD
PS: I am glad to have such a cool dad who introduced me to KR when I was only 6, back in 2007
You've got some patience to design all of that infrastructure, very innovative docking method as well :)
That second reentry looked exactly like my first visit to Duna. :)
Woo! Go li'l rover! XD
You know, I think this is still the most complete single launch research/colony system I've ever seen. Mining, a space station, communications, a roving base, in-system and surface-orbit shuttles for fuel and passengers, and an interplanetary shuttle to go to and from Kerbin. Nothing is forgotten, and it's all practical.
LOL that landing! SpaceX this is not... yet! XD
I would have called it "The Spirit of Opportunism"
"The best KSP UA-camr on the Planet" srtikes again. Even if you made an hour long vid each day I'd never get tired of watching them.
Given that opportunity landed with airbags and then rolled some distance before stopping on it's side, your landing was strangely fitting.
11:39 it reminds me of those crazy hotels you find in some places
Dunno how I missed this... But that was absolutely awesome.
Its nice to see a ksp youtuber pay tribute to Oppy.
You put all these other Kerbal UA-camrs to shame! Well done man.
Mr. Shadow!
It´s been just a year that I´ve found your channel and watched your videos, but I´m pretty sure this was the most complex (and MUCH COOLER!) of the KSP´s ones!
Really, really cool! Many great ideas - by the way, the suicide-doors and that "spoon-coupler" stuff... hohoho!! \o/
...
p.s.: you know that Tron had a sequence ("Tron: Legacy") a few years ago, right? Not "so" old... Yeah, still with those freak, useless rectangular stuff similar to your Duna landers....
:-D
perseverance will remember opportunity forever
Awsome work I love the inside of the rover
Tron was released a month and a half before I was born, and is severely underrated!
Suas obras são inspiradoras, gostei de todo o projeto. Além de tudo, você também comete erros, como nós mortais. Abraços e grato por mais esse ótimo vídeo.
Funny stuff man... definitely gonna use this design. Once again, well done!
AGAIN! Haha
a vison of the future opportunity helped us create
I use the Kerbal attachment system and Kerbal inventory system mods, which makes things quiet different. I Just have to try to land close enough to attach a pipe from one module to the next. It helps in refueling operations not to have to spend so long trying to get stuff connected to one another. Those the ideas used in this video were awesome to say the least.
also, the whole functional interiors thing you did here, had my jaw on the floor! that was so cool, ill be spending the next month of my life trying to come up with something like that on my own lol.
I love the interior.
All of this docking port acrobatics could be avoided, if SQUAD finally gave us fuel hoses. Maybe with Breaking Ground? One can always dream... :)
I love the idea for the refinery I think I may start doing it too
This chad turned Kerbal Space Program into Star Citizen! Amazing.
When I watched you for the first time I was like got to subscribe. Now I can not stop watching. Keep up the good work.
That interior is really nice. I also like to include an inerior wherever i could, just to be alble to roleplay a bit.
Target landing pad docking port, select radial out, then slowly land on it using the lateral rcs thrusters to keep over it.
Wow, well done!
Very well made
Using the airbrake as a car door is not something I would have thought of. You have an inventor's mind.
100t rover?!?!? my best lifter can only take 108T to LKO
I might have done bigger...
ua-cam.com/video/r4My1vpcAFk/v-deo.html
And reusable
ua-cam.com/video/C2NME673MOg/v-deo.html
Moar boosters!
@@ShadowZone why you gotta do this to me, man? 😂
AGAIN!!
The names of your crafts are so epic. You're unique and your accent in my opinion makes you superior to Scott Manley. If only I could gift you subscribers and views. Keep up the good work and you will grow fast.
Loved the creative components in your craft!
Great Video and great Video. I like your Channel!
Why am i just now finding you, and why do you not have more subscribers?!?
17:50 seems legit
Hooray.
In Opportunity's name, nothing is over the top.
If you're going to make a giant space-buttplug, you need to give it a flared base so you don't lose it down a black hole.
I really liked that two-wheeled docking trolly used on Ike! How did you get the Kerbalnaut sized doorway to the rover's launchpad?
You're a great channel, and really deserve way more views!
I LUV IT
*lands and rolls around the deck of rover before finally docking .
ELON MUSK WANTS TO KNOW YOUR YOUR LOCATION
Whoa! This was amazing!
Tron Recognizers launchin' off da rover
Good times :)
this is amazing! Good work!
3:55 now he´s doing the insight mission
Gods of my ancestors! That is a truly massive rover! ^_^V
Oppy is alive!!!
From personal experience, brining giant rovers to Duna is hard
14:05 Wouldn't installing two (smaller?) 'counter-rotating' reaction avoid having your rover break dance?
giant fairings
Absolutely incredible, amazing and fantastic! But why did you make it so small? I found it hard to see that rover... 😁
Nice video, could you possibly do an opportunity recreation
Your first video that I ever saw! 😂
KSP "LIKE SPACE...BUT OVER ENGINEERED"
instead of the spatula robot the refinery could have an arm with a docking port on the end
ShadowZone: *lands vehicle on landing bay*
Also ShadowZone *fucking dies*
A G A I N!!!!!
#ThanksOppy
That rocket looks like a back massager.
It looks like a lint brush roller on a rocket. 😂 but it still flies where my big fuel depot can't even get off the pad.
Bob: We are sending a toilet brush to Duna.
Press F to pay respects for Opportunity.
Ah, so THIS is where the devs got the idea that "people like floppy rockets" for KSP2 😆
It ate duna, that's why it's so big and fat
8:23 its a new DUNA
AGAIN!!!!👍
Why no FAR though? After coming back to KSP yesterday over two years of not playing, took me about 15 tries to launch a basic 1.25 to orbit. All due the glory of FAR that doesn't let you to fuck around what so ever. Basically you can only make a slight gravity turn at ~1km and ~ 100 m/s and than you can start making gentle touches at 20km. Like - really gentle :). Oh. And if between 1km and 20km, you don't use SAS to automatically follow the velocity vector you are also fucked.
+ also, why no infernal robotics? And lights? :)
The thumbnail looks like a cutlass from Star citizen
Trajectories mod assumes you come in pointing retrograde and calculates the trajectory accordingly. But as you came in pointing prograde, it didn't work.
That fucking fairing XD
Again!
How do you get the atmosphere entry marked on your orbital paths! Amazing idea whoever thought of it!
Oh - trajectories mod - you just said it as I was typing my amazement.
like 2 days later it comes back online and you have to recover this whole rover
What's that precise maneuver mod that you have?
Hello Shadowzone, can I ask when your USSR serie and the Invictus project will be released?
I don't want to put any pressure, but I'm very curious!
The Soviet series's status:
All vehicles necessary are built. The scripts for 2 of the 9 episodes are finished. I want to film all in one go, as soon as the writing is done.
Invictus is parked Jool's orbit, but I'm thinking of redoing it from scratch because I'm unhappy with a few things.
Also, the music is not really coming along as quickly as I'd like.
So, Russian series in a few weeks, Invictus... can't say, really.
I also wanted to do the frame by frame recreation of 2001:Space Odyssey ...
So much to do, so little time...
Thank you very much for the answers
Wish you the best, you're my n°1 source of inspiration for creating spacecraft in this game.
Whatever amount of time those series will take, it'll be totaly worth it!
Thank you for your time and dedication.
How do you make the big wheels turnable?
I use airbreaks as legs
Can you post that craft on your Kerbol X
Yes. Am on the road currently, might take 15h from now or so.
How do you do to add clouds to ksp?
