So many fake watches arriving on the scene, its strange how people are so willing to spend thousands of $ on something and not get it authenticated. I suppose some of us are just not like that here in the UK so we find it a tad strange. I learn so much watching all of you at CRM

@@derbratan01 Buying watches is scary if you are shopping wrong, as long as you deal with someone like CRM or one of the many legit watch dealers you are fine, I was very lucky to find a watch dealer who has been in the business for over 60 years in the next city over from me and just like CRM its a family run business and they know there stuff so I don't have to. if you can't trust your watch dealer you shouldn't be buying from them, it's that simple. if the price is too good that's a huge red flag don't get caught up in the moment like Charlie says.
Absolutely. Pay the experts to authenticate especially someone who has an easily damaged reputation. They will work very hard to protect their reputation and unfortunately will also charge more for that authentication, but for six figures, it needs to be protected.

CRM Jewelers- I think ALL watches should be authenticated, scary thing I heard is in Shenzhen, China where they make "Superclones" they are only in their "rough" stage!! They are planning to use A.I. to clone movements, and all other facets of the watches. In 2 years, that will be the test!!!

Question, someone left a comment on here and said that the winner of the watches needs to pay state and federal income taxes? That would be very expensive on luxury watches. Is this true?
We pay state sales tax on behalf of the winner. Regarding any other taxes that winner's have to pay, that depends on the jurisdiction the winner is from and they're all different. Each winner has to take that into account, as we're not tax experts nor can provide tax advice.

Unfortunate for whoever bought that watch, but it is a glaringly obvious fake, there's an ugly regulating lever in the tourbillon, idk how someone gets fooled for that unless it was a bait and switch with pictures of an legitimate one

so at what point does it make more sense to spend less money on a "fake" watch when the "fakes" are getting so good that there is hardly any difference to where even dealers with tons of knowledge are having a hard time figuring out whats real or fake?
Never. Buy a real watch that you can afford based on your financial situation. There's no sense pretending.

How does a jeweler spend $83K and not open the watch up and inspect the movement. It would be obvious it was fake with a movement inspection.
He was in a rush and overlooked it, which turned into a very expensive mistake.

But as somebody who has done extensive research into them, they all still have tells. 99% of clones have tells, even on the surface with the dial, finishing, etc. And if it has an exhibition case back, that would make it even easier. Even if it doesn’t, take like 2 minutes to open it up and you can tell. The jeweler who purchased that watch is an idiot, any semi knowledgeable jeweler who deals with watches would be able to almost instantly spot a fake, or at the very least have their suspicions raised.
My boss has made that mistake DOZENS of times and as soon as I see the pieces I tear him apart screaming "Why didn't you check this?", "Why didn't you call me or ask me?".
Bc they think they know it all and forget the main rule. Always keep open to keep learning.

i think the craziest thing about these amazingly close fake watches is the fact that if a person/company can pull that off, why dont they just make their own brand of watch and start a whole new luxury watch company?
