Every time they saw each other he would take money from him. As Pistone explained, he was never actually personally close with Lefty like the movie showed. In real life he had more of a personal closeness to Sonny Black. He said Lefty only talked about gangster shit while Sonny black was willing to talk about normal things. Lefty never cared for Donnie. He only cared about what he could get from him.

    Joe was an absolute legend. His bravery and intelligence blows me away. In this conversation him and another undercover fed come extremely close to being discovered and almost certainly killed but he thinks on his feet brilliantly and instinctively knows when to turn on what he called "Bad Guy Strength" and go on the offensive.

    It’s insane that a veteran made guy would slip up so badly to talk so much on the phone. The whole point of this call is for “Donnie” to know that Lefty stood up for him. Donnie’s stock was rising because of the money he was earning. Sonny Black loved Donnie as a smart guy, Lefty was a strong man. Basically two MADE guys are playing chess for the loyalty of a recruit with HUGE potential. This is amazing work from Joe Pistone.

Pistone had money and jewellery that the FBI would give him and as lefty was always broke he would get money and jewels from Donnie. Pistone said he was really actually close to Sonny Black (the captain) but the movie changed some facts. He was personally closer to Sonny Black. Lefty only used him.

      And Pistone had a chance there too to run to his FBI superiors and tell them the jig was up and he'd go into protective custody in case he was found out but the mission would be a failure. Pistone had balls of steel because he knew Lefty was close but tried everything he could to throw him off the scent and maintain his mission. Stone cold dedicated because if Lefty did find out and Pistone didn't realize it, it could've easily meant his own death.

      @@haroldbailey9011 It was a limo service, which had commercials that ran every minute of the night or day in the 70's on local NY tv. Bob Hope , Vic Damone and, I think, Scooter Rizzuto where spokesman For Fugazi. The word was like a tune that is constantly play in your head.

      @@haroldbailey9011 nothing was “made up” Fugazi got popular because of the Film Donnie Brasco We were using it In My Culture for decades before that anyone who is a Real Italian Understands that Fugazi Is American Slang for Fake .. Even Before the Movie

      @@Pacinomela yeah you’re mistaken I promise you. I’m born and raised in an Italian neighborhood in New York and it never existed. Watch the making of Donnie brasco with the director. He says they needed a word and they saw a laundry service or something with the name “fugazzi”. In Staten Island, there’s a high school football all star game called the “fugazzi bowl”. All anyone ever thought that meant was it was the name of the guy who the all star game was named after. Fugazzi ad in “fake” comes from the movie itself. Prove me wrong and show me proof. I’m always down to learn something new

      Sonny Black was the closet to Joe Jessica, have you not read the book? Sonny Black was supposedly.mudered by the Mafia but no body was ever found, just a set of teeth that the FBI said were Sonny's but according to dental records were not his. Think about it...

    That was intense. Lefty knows the entire time how he would expect Donnie to react to rockys claim, but Donnie never gets as heated as he should have. All lefty can do is reiterate his loyalty to Donnie in hopes of the same. All lefty has at this moment is his hope and faith donnies true and loyal. He should never even be in this position if he knows Donnie like he thinks he does. Donnie is lucky to be alive is an understatement.

    Listening to them talk gives me a whole new love for Donnie brasco the movies Al Pacino n Johnny depp played there’s roles so perfectly to the dialect to the way they sounded Johnny n al genuinely sound like Donnie and left
