    Thanks for the reply Ramon. The fact that you mentioned the accepted oil pressure of 57 PSI and the that it switches at around. 3000-4000. RPPM. was. A tremendous help. No one ever stated the pressure. Just yourself. I will watch. It again. But thank you for explaining it in detail. Ramon you don’t need to smile I enjoy your videos for there honesty and accuracy. Thanks much for the response. 👍👍👍❤️

    Make sure you disconnect both battery terminals and touch them together to degause the entire system. I did this , changed the oil, screen, and vvt actuator

    Roman,
    Excellent video’s, I watched both. I have Pro-Alldata it does not go into detail that you give.
    It has pin out test for if you was at dealer and have pin out boxes.
    I have 2006 Honda Element 2.4ltr.
    P2646 I have replaced both screens, changed oil and filter Mobile 1 oil.
    I have checked voltage and ground to pressure switch 12.0 volts at oil pressure switch, good ground. I checked resistance on solenoid and I’m reading 7.0 ohms.
    Your saying 16-30 ohms. I purchased twice a Dorman lifetime VVT spool valve complete unit, I’m thinking I’m dealing with a bad aftermarket spool valve.
    My next step just to verify is a manual oil pressure test to verify oil pressure.
    My car has 229,000 miles on it I have been dealing with this code for two years off and on.
    This has given me a bad taste on Honda I have always thought they was on top.
    I was wondering if you installed a HONDA OEM complete assembly spool valve on that car you repaired?
    Thank you for your Master Journeyman Automotive education!

    • @jerrymassey1214
      @jerrymassey1214 2 роки тому

      Roman,
      Today I removed oil sending unit and checked oil pressure vehicle warmed up 22 psi idle 95 psi at 3000
      Rpm.
      I don’t believe I have a list pressure concern.
      All data Pro wants you to remove oil pressure switch in spool valve and adapt with special gauge install oil pressure sending unit and then check pressure I guess that is actual what the oil sending unit is receiving?
      I check checked resistance with another meter and my solenoid reads 16 ohms within spec.
      Does the ECM command solenoid on in a duty cycle?
      I checked ground on solenoid side it’s good but key on what should I read on other wire going to solenoid?
      I can run solenoid test and when it switches from off to on my oil pressure switch still shows on, just like your test showed on video.
      I think I should purchase a Honda OEM solenoid.
      Thank you sir any advice to bounce off me is great advice.

    when key is on engine off i get 11.71 volts, when car is running at ilde voltage was flutuating around 3 volts. i unplugged to test circuit which triggered the VSA light to come on, also it is a brand new unit and still having issues, changed oil, and was good for about 2400 miles, BUT that is mostly just driving in town rarely getting over 45 MPH or high RPMs i spent $180 at a garage for them to tell me low oil pressure, but good flow??? i feel garage already had it in mind oil pump, because he seen this b4 and it was oil pump

    Great case study, with in-depth analysis. Love it! I diagnosed a 2003 CRV with this exact code last month. VTEC valve had been replaced twice before I looked at it, but same code returned. I checked all the electrical and mechanical functions of the solenoid and the oil pressure switch itself (bench test like you did here!) and everything worked properly!
    Now can you guess what the real issue was in my case, and how I determined the cause of the problem?

    • @kyhomegarage3430
      @kyhomegarage3430  7 років тому

      motoYam82 correct engine oil is number one if that doesn't help engine sludge could reason why. Take valve cover off and look for sludge. If that is the case try engine flush couple times. Thank you hope this help bro.

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics 7 років тому

      Yes, I believe high mileage and poor maintenance was the root cause of VTEC failure in my case. Even with a new solenoid unit, the pressure switch stayed ON. I removed the oil psi switch and installed an analog oil psi mechanical gauge in that spot. Revving to 3k rpm and energizing the VTEC solenoid manually could not get the pressure reading above a few psi! I assume the valve train in the head was so worn out and relieving the pressure too fast, so it could not build in the system and activate the VTEC as designed.

    • @kyhomegarage3430
      @kyhomegarage3430  7 років тому

      motoYam82 OK , did you find any sludge. I had another car with same issue after replacing solenoid code came back after first test drive. Only other thing I could do is to change oil with correct type of oil. That was a fix. Later I was wondering if my solenoid was a problem at all. Talked to owner and she told me that car was sitting on driveway for six months without being started.

      Vtec system needs more care than a turbocharged vehicle, very troublesome and unreliable, I have a Honda Element (k-24) with exactly the same situation…. Clean engine, fresh oil , change the connector three times , changed all filters, the whole unit 4 times , the oil switch like 7 times , even from dealership, I have tested the wires… End of the history ? My daughter doesn’t want the car anymore 🤦‍♂️

    First got P2646 about 3 months ago. I replaced the VTEC solenoid assembly with OEM as a shotgun approach and the problem went away until now. After a very long and heavy rain, the issue returned. This time, I have done some troubleshooting first. I checked the front VTC screen (very clean, but replaced anyway), oil control valve has some screens - checked - were very clean. I tested the actuator and it worked great. I checked the VTEC solenoid screen and it was also clean. Changed the oil and filter with proper oil 5w20, all very clean.
    Issue persists, so I look into electrical. I repinned the connector to the VTEC Oil pressure switch because the connector terminals looked a little corroded. I read 12V with key on on the blue/black wire. At this point, I have not much idea what to do next. Any suggestions?

  • @angelisone

    Replaced the complete brand new (Duralast #TS1147), 2005 CR-V ran less than 2 weeks.
    Back with the same problems (P2646, VSA & limp modes about 3KRPM.
    So what is the most likely the fault with SUV, has 240K and oil/filter have been changed?
    KY Home Garage, many do not have the computer to check.
    So with your or anyone that has experiences with CR-V, what is usually the problem?

    • @kyhomegarage3430

    If the P2647 code sometimes goes away after say connecting and reconnecting plugs ( after cleaning them ) or the code goes away for a short time after changing the entire solenoid and pressure switch assembly, does that prove the wire is not shorted ?
    When could it be a Power Control Module problem ?

  • @diyfferent

    I have an 2003 Element with the P2646 code. I replaced that whole unit with the solenoid and switch but the problem actually got worse. It has clean oil and the filters look good. I have been searching for answers and not really getting anywhere. After watching your video I ran into a question. You said that the voltage to your solenoid was reading 14v I believe. Mine reads around 6 to 7 volts. Is the the possible cause of my issues? Do I have a bad pcm? I'm just stumped and out of money. Before the problem was intermittent, mostly occuring after a long drive but after replacing the solenoid unit, the car will not go over 3000rpm at all and the check engine light comes on almost immediately. Any advice or ideas?

  • @davidsanders3706
    @davidsanders3706 7 років тому

    P2646, I removed the assembly, made a fitting and pressure tested the switch. takes about 20 psi increasing to trip, but very repeatable. 13V on the solenoid and you can hear it pulling in and releasing when you power it down. Screen shows no debris at all. I'm wondering if my overall oil pressure could be the problem? all I have in my 03 Element is an idiot light. any idea when the idiot light comes on? If there is range between (idiot light/vtec switch activation) then could that be my problem? I don't want to just throw parts at it...Yes, I changed the oil. :) Thank you oh! Great Video!!

      On a one wire solenoid, you test resistance by probing between that one pin and the body of the solenoid/valve.
