Hi, I want to create hyper realistic grayscale depth maps from photos. Can anyone help me to find a way to do it? Is there a tool that does it? Thank you!
To edit a custom depth map, you can apply Lockdown to a clip, then set the output to 'depth'. You can then pre-compose (moving all attributes) to make a new comp that stores your depth. Then add your footage into the comp next to it, and put a new instance of Lockdown on your footage. source that depth comp into the 'custom depth layer' of the footage layer. Then on the footage layer, set the output to preview 3D. Now you can edit the depth pre-comp and see the results through the 3d preview.
So if you are able to create a depth map from your footage without C4D (say either hand made, or created through a 2D to 3D plugin like Volumax) you can skip to 2:00?
You can ctrl shift click to manually connect points. This one i drew manually but it was worth it for quads. We'll be building better quad tools eventually
The displacement map, and a lot of projection tools already existed in c4d, I just used them in a slightly different way than intended to work with my plugin.
A very interesting and effective technique. I'm curious: Is it theoretically possible to use the tracking data from Lockdown to determine or estimate depth?
Not yet, but that's somewhere on our list. Depth is easy to estimate with rigid objects, not so much with objects that distort. But we've certainly thought about it. We'll eventually be able to make that happen!
I think so. The alembic can be imported into c4d lite, but theres no constraint or hair tags. So you could use xpresso to attach a null to a vert or face manually

Thanks champ. Very cool stuff. Keep it up
I am purchased new lockdown 3. I am not getting good depth maps for face any tips??

Yes, there's nothing special to the depth map creation, you can do it however you'd like.
Thank you excellent work
How is possible to obtain this nice quadrangulate mesh if the plugin has only a Auto Triangulate option?

@@ChrisVranos Perfect.Thanx!
😲Was the technique your idea or is it a known method? it's amazing!!👏👏👏

@@ChrisVranos I was surprised by the use of the deformer for the distortion for the camera, I would never have thought of that.
man, thats genious

Good luck with that.
I'm looking forward to the result. :-)

That's awesome ❤
Where did you source the footage from? Would be great to be able to follow along with the tutorial. 1.61 update looks great 👍🏻

This is some kind of black magic?
