Hi this is Paula from Mexico again. I have just been branching out at different orchids other than Phaleonopsis. I was given a cymbidium yesterday. It is in bloom, starts out a little green & turns yellow with some red in the lip. It is in a very big pot. It has chunks of styrofoam around the top, it has three suitibulbs that look dry and finished. The lady said to let them because they are still hard and full inside and can help feed the plant. They grow them outside here and said they like a little sun maybe in early morning or late night. I have gotten a paphiopedilum and 2 demdroviums. Oh an a catleya solferina ( green & pink), today. I wish I could fine some good sources of medium here. So far I order on line from repotme. & Amazon. Thank you I love your videos. I will let you know how it goes with the two almost dead orchids I got from eBay. It will take awhile.

I recommend that you chop a third of the roots from the bottom which will create more root growth. I grow my cymbidiums in chunky bark with frequent watering and I’m getting cymbidiums with very nice roots.

Best wishes on your cymbidium orchid. After purchasing my first cymbidium I almost killed it. I couldn't get it to rebloom last season and afraid to try to rebloom her this year because her roots died off last winter and in better shape now.
I changed the type of fertilizer I was using to one that has calcium in it to give it strength and building blocks to grow strong.
Only time will tell how successful I can be in getting her to totally recover.

Cymbidiums are my kinda orchids in the orchid world. It’s my favourite plant to grow with the most rewarding and wonderful flowers. I think you should start off Cymbidiums as a part of your hobby.

Hello!! I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you. Could you tell me why some buds of my cymbidiums die before opening the little flowers. I opened a bud pocket because I saw it with some spots from the inside and when I opened it all the little flowers that were growing fell and inside there was something sticky and brown, also that in some areas of the floral stem when I removed the cover that they have. 😢😢 so I don't know if it's a bacteria or a plague. I hope you help me. Thank you 🎉❤

Oh girl.. Repotted my cymbidium today after finished blooming and.. It had like 70% of the roots dead and soft.
But, noticed some small new growths and young roots growing, so I hope it'll be fine

That is a beautiful orchid I rescued a phalaenopsis orchid from a gas station... It had no flowers so I knew it would be left to die unless I bought it the roots were healthy and the leaves were healthy too so I cut the flower spike down to one of the nodes so hopefully I get new flowers 😄

Hello Dani , even watching you repot your orchids is so relaxing ... I can almost feel my blood pressure going down 😁 !! Dani, I am curious and maybe you have already done a video on this ... why do you put such a small amount of soil at the bottom of the pots ? It might seem obvious to those who understand this subject and I know orchids grow differently but I am new to all of this 😁 !! Your videos are always the best on this subject ☺❤ !!

Would you try some Cymbidiums from Eastern Asia like cymbidium ensifolium? They are supposedly warm growers and might bloom at any time in your climate? Usually the blooms are not as showy and often times the are also appreciated for their foliage but I heard the fragrance is great! I recently got a few to try but haven’t brought them to bloom yet.

Maybe there is just something about the environment she doesn't like. I bought a beautiful yellow cymbidium a month ago and she is thriving! I'm a complete beginner, although I did watch several videos to help me know what to do.
Anyway, I have kept her outside since I got her, only moving her to shade if sun comes out.
I live in Cuenca, Ecuador at 8500 ft in the Andes Mountains. Lots of cloudy/overcast days, lots of rain. I have her under an overhang so I can control water intake.

Hi Danny. I like using Repotme "things". Ordered the bark and was quite fresh smelling. As of lately I been using their net pots and noticed less, of my store bought phals dying of rotting roots. The pots allows much more airation. Good luck with your cybie !!

  • @The-Growroom

Cymbidiums are so gorgeous, the flowers are my favorite. But the way they're delivered by nurseries is just horrible. I bought 2 recently and the pot is 90% root, if not 95%. I have no choice but to repot it despite the time of year, if I don't I know it'll dry out and die. I cut off the flowers (let's hope I can enjoy them in a vase), hopefully the plants will pull through.
