    The epitome of a modern traditional roguelike: with turn-based play and a RPG-like skill progression system, it hearkens back to some of the major aspects of this genre. This game has an incredible depth, with a deep inventory system, vehicles and boats, NPCs with their own stories, and more.

    This is a hard game to broadcast and you really nail it with your production quality. I can see and read all the text, and you are conscientious about staying zoomed down to the character. I can actually watch your CDDA content on my phone, and I just wanted to thank you for that. Great work, great episode.

      Oh I'm glad it works on phone, I hadn't tried watching it on phone yet.
      I try not to zoom out much for the very reason you're listing, I noticed early on its very hard to follow.

    What an exciting spell translocator gate is. It allows for a lifestyle that is contrary to the accepted wisdom of veterans of C:DDA. Most seasoned players assemble the best vehicle they can and travel from town to town looking for locations of interest. With the gates you could legitimately harvest the raw materials of the mega city and create a super base in a much more reasonable amount of time. It would even allow you to live the life of a hunter-gatherer. Warping between gates as the seasons change and harvesting wild flora and fauna before moving on and allowing them to replenish.
    Small suggestion. I don't know if Vellum will find an NPC trader any time soon, but I suspect all those dupes of the wolf cufflinks would fetch a pretty penny if you track down someone to trade with. Same with firearms. He has no interest in using them, but they are worth a lot of money to other survivors. I suppose at this point in the LP he isn't sure if there are ANY survivors left. It will come as quite a shock if and when he does encounter a non-zed, non-feral humanoid.
    Nice solid episode.

      You basically have my idea down. I like the idea of turning CDDA into an "extraction shooter" almost. It costs us 8 hours and a safe location to put down a waypoint, so even if we do extract if we do it in a panic we will have to fight our way back to a location. This also allows us to keep our "Wizard tower" while expanding further and further into the megacities.
      Plus I struggled to imagine an elf wizard making a giant hulking vehicle, and all the vehicle alternatives were either bad or impractical (bicycle, wheelies, and skateboard are just silly, and a horse would be amazing but hard to keep alive)
      I think we met one NPc earlier, but he wasn't a trader, and I don't think I've seen anyone alive who isn't hostile lol. However its good to keep in mind that its possible to sell things, and we should collect extra stuff that is valuable for this.

    You absolutely could phase up from within a building without LOS to the next floor, you just already had the cursor too far away from yourself. Remember, distances are calculated in a circular fashion, so you can only make the cursor go up when it is either on top of you or only a single tile away. Good enough to get on a roof from outside a building, but 2 tiles west and 1 tile up is mathematically less than the range of phase. Its a bit of a fiddly system, but you'll get the hang of it eventually! I've been thinking of making some cata videos myself, maybe I should make some tutorials on the finer points of the magic system 🤔. Either way, great series and a fun episode!

      @AreimaYT  4 місяці тому +3

      OHHHHHHHHHHH. That was a breakthrough tip! Honestly, it is kinda obvious when you explain it that way and I never thought about circular range.
      The only other question is, is there a way to focus my camera on where I'm targeting? I find it nerve-wracking to "guess" where I'm teleporting to, even when I've already explored above/below.
      Considering I have about 200 hours in-game now and I still ask questions and look stuff up constantly, I also considered making tutorials just to catch people up to where I am, haha.

      @timjones5953 4 місяці тому +1

      @AreimaYT hah, yeah, I remember when they first put in circular distances (or at least made them on by default lol), it was long before any good magic mods besides Arcana and Magic Items (still a banger btw, you might consider it for your next playthrough even if it doesn't come pre-installed with the game, more eldritch, less fantasy but it works well with magiclysm) and it really threw my ass for a loop.
      Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to have your view jump to the cursor between z-levels. I haven't done too much looking, though, as I've only played one character with the phase ability. It might be worth digging in the controls menu for that specific aiming screen.
      Out of curiosity where did you go to check your hours with this game? I'm honestly kinda glad I don't know where to find that info, I've spent a distressing amount of time on this with cata lol. Again, if you have any controls or general questions please feel free to ask!

    Don't underestimate the heelies or roller skates. Worm Girl did excellent job doing run and gun against zombies because she is so fast the zombies cannot reach her. She is a youtuber with a simple tutorial to play CDDA and have one series that she owns.

    You tried inserting steel plates. There are "front" (and back, dunno if there are back plates in CDDA tho) and "side" plates. You had front ceramic and front steel on the cop. Compromised - they are "side"

    Man, I sure hate when the invisighoul decides to become visible. And becomes the villain of Spider Man 2. Oh well, what can one do.
    Interesting to see the gates being used, despite the stamina cost, they will defenitely help speed up running around, not to mention be safer than contending with the nasties that dwell around!
