Nodes are scary when you've never used it before, but the funniest thing about nodes is once go nodes, there's no going back to layers.

It’s funny that people are scared of nodes. Switching to nodes was the best decision ever - especially for more complex projects, because it is much easier to keep track and organize the individual steps compared to layers. Just thinking of embedded comps gives me flashbacks. Nodes all the way!

100% agreed! I think people are just scared of change but I’m fully team “once you go Nodes you can’t go back” lol

It seems like nodes are just 'movable' layers organized laterally, vs the traditional vertical layer stacking of other programs? Like turning a typical layer stack on its side? At least that's how my brain processes the difference. Haha

Nodes are flowcharts. It lets you see everything you've done at once. It's not really just about organization. It's more about proceduralism. You can come back to any stage of your work and make changes and that will trickle down to other nodes in the network. That doesn't quite happen in layer based software like AE. Nodes are a million times more flexible than layers. You can see everything you have done in a big flowchart and you don't have to hunt down to see what each layer is doing like in AE, you can also isolate any part of your composition to understand what's happening which is impossible in AE. In some software nodes are vertical and in some horizontal but there are a lot more pro software with nodes than layers.
I'd recommend a video from the in light VFX yt channel, he made a really good and concise video about nodes vs layers and pointed out pros and cons of each in a very engaging way.

Nodes rule the world. There are a tonne more software, that uses nodes, than layers.
3D software, compositors, game engines, logic programming sodtware for automation and smarthome hardware.
The list goes on and on.

Most software is not layer based. They are node based.
Its only Adobe software, snd a few others, that uses layers. Just about any 3D software, game engines, compositors as well as a lot of other technical software for programming smarthome hardware and the like, uses nodes.
