Thanks for trying to be positive, but Stockton just isn't a good place. The people who live here who think that it is a good place are mostly criminals who see this town as a safe haven for their illicit activities due to the fact that law enforcement is unresponsive to most things. The students that I know at UOP agree that it is the jewel of the city but are mostly too afraid to leave the campus bubble. Everyone is a victim here, whether it's to the system or each other. Those of us who are trying to make our escape are fighting a steep uphill battle day after day.
Thanks so much for your response. All legitimate points, the only thing I disagree with is classifying the Stockton population as mostly criminal. There are plenty of good, hard working families there in the agricultural/blue collar industry that are just trying to get by at somewhat of an affordable living by CA standards.
I was very close to asking a handful of UOP students for an interview while walking the campus. It’s a peculiar situation you guys have studying there. Now I’m even more motivated to talk to someone attending UOP. Would you be interested in doing an interview or know of anyone that would be?
You probably couldn’t afford the nicer side . But here in morada off the 99 it’s super calm and no criminal activity. Houses range from 550k 780 max . Your probably traumatized
I grew up there in the 80-90s. Delta College, UOP beautiful. Used to fish all along 8 mile road and the turning basin in the 80s. Grew up in Morada area. The whole area around Brookside and 8 mile were fields. I come back to drive thru sometimes and it saddens me how much blight and homelessness has taken over the area. Used to ride those canal banks as a kid , now instead of water, it's filled with homeless
Brookside and 8 mile all fields eh?!?! That does make sense though since I had a feeling most of that nice housing looked pretty late 90’s / early 2000’s built. That’s a trip. That’s A TON of land to build on in such a short timeframe.
I was born in Tracy and had cousins, Aunts, and Uncles in Stockton in the 1950s and 60s. It was completely different back then. Wilson Way used to be Highway 99 before the Freeway was built in 1957. What ruined Stockton was the same that ruined many cities: court ordered school desegregation in the 1960s. That's when white flight kicked in and people moved out in droves.
Brutal truth behind one of the many mistakes the city has made over the decades. Thanks for that. Wilson Way used to be a highway huh? Crazy but that does make sense with it being such a monstrously long avenue.
I grew up in Conway in the 80’s and 90’s and it was a trip to me that white kids from the suburbs were getting bused to Taylor which was in the hood and us hood kids would get bused to Tyler
I grew up in central Stockton in the 1980s. On Center & Elm St. Is the Blackwater Cafe still around? Also I recommend rhe movies Fat City and Rampage. Nice vid man!
5:53 yeah that’s sum fckn guttah shyt right there, I’m from Sacramento myself and one thing I can say about Stockton/Lodi it’s really it’s own world down there, don’t get it twisted, South side of my city is xtra hood but in the 209 you got beat up dinghy ass buildings right in the middle of the country side, tore up ass un-even roads and railroad crossings. Hot dry/deadly environment, hella homeless people/ violent migrants, corrupt local law enforcement, +Numerous gangs throughout the whole city. The scary part is it’s right in the middle of the lone valley and prior bankruptcy, if you get popped out there, it’s gonna be a hot minute before authorities respond to the situation, I’m talking 25-45 minutes tops, you can lose a lot of blood just in 10 minutes, so you can imagine what the survival rate is like out there.
Stockton: 1st established township in CA. Locals Holt Brothers established what we now know as Catapeller. Corp. So much history related to Stockton. There seems to be a major democratic shift the last several years with folks from Bay Area being priced out and moving yo the valley. Major influx noted from Oakland area. One of the most diverse cities around.
I’m sorry I live in Stockton. Stockton is exceptionally bad with more ugly looking areas than good. But it’s like the cheapest place to live and still be able to commute to the Bay Area for the higher paying jobs
Well stated! Have you noticed any signs of gentrification in the rougher areas with that being said? Most of the job commuters are probably buying in the Morada / Brookside / Northern areas I’d imagine?
@@privateeyetravelguy yes, I would say that’s accurate with commuters settling in the more affluent areas (north western). I know that’s true in my case at least when I moved to Stockton from the Bay Area. I have seen very little gentrification in the south and eastern sides of the city. The home prices are rising but very little construction or services on those sides
There’s no such thing as a good part of Stockton. Drive through a “nice place” long enough you will see a shooting/robbery/fight/etc. Have you lived in Stockton? Doesn’t sound like it. When I meet former residents like myself they congratulate me for leaving, and I congratulate them back.

There’s hella tweakers and homeless in Weston ranch behind the food for less and along the levy’s. Used to be a lot on the green belt. And if you’re outside a lot you’d know they be sleeping in the parks bathrooms. But it is way nicer looking than the majority of Stockton.
We pay all these taxes on everything we buy and including at the end of the year and government still does nothing about all these homeless people it’s not just Stockton it’s literally everywhere now

Do one on Bakersfield and Fresno someday, they have a bad rap also.
Most definitely! Fresno is not AS bad as most people believe too imo. Now Bakersfield is a different story though 😳😭😂😩
there are gated communities also. by ladds marina on the waterfront and off of highway 4 by the main shipping channel
Yep! That whole Brookside community off of the 5 is super “ballin”! I’m trying to feature that area in episode 3.
Go to Lincoln village west marina Benholt;embarcadero area..very nice
I know exactly where you’re talking about! Ben Holt is really nice. There’s legit no hoods along that entire avenue!
