I REMEMBER the miracle mile in the 80s... the espresso coffee shop back in high school was a movie theater called the Stockton Royal..

Al's Comics is still there. I believe it's Al's son and grandson that runs the shop now. Unfortunately, this movie theater had caught on fire. I filmed a video about it.

Radio station KJOY began life on the Miracle Mile in 1947. In those days, it was KXOB with offices and studios at 2013 Pacific. The offices and studios were moved to the transmitter in the Fall of 1950.

You took footage kitty corner and across the street from a previous bar called the bull n bear. Corner of pacific and tuxedo. My band used to play there all the time.

Just North of Manny's, there was a KFC. It is some type of Oriental food now. But in the 60's I attended El Dorado School (across the street). Use to go over to the KFC to get french fries (yes, they served them). Got an old wax bag full for a quarter. (That is bigger than anyone's large today). And prior the Red Top being there, there was a Foster's Freeze (that was torn down when they build the Red Top).

@Mark Berenger I'm fairly certain that it is still there, but it changed to simply The Creamery (I do not think it is as good, but I do think it is at the same location which is at 5756 Pacific Ave.

Good comedy shows coming up at the theater. Maybe take a look into it. Good festivals and such coming up.

Stockton was the home to California's first psychiatric hospital: Stockton State Mental Asylum/Stockton State Mental Hospital, which was opened back in 1851 and remained a functioning state mental hospital until it's closure back in 1996.
Stockton State Mental Asylum/Stockton State Mental Hospital was where the "Criminally Insane" or "Severely Mentally ill" patients were housed way back in the day.
In the 1950s they used to do "Shock Treatment" & "Shock Therapy" which was the only means of mental health treatment available at the time. 1953 was the year one mental health patient tried to escape, but was eventually brought back by Stockton Police.
In the 1980s Stockton State Hospital changed it's name to Stockton Developmental Center where Mental Health Patients engaged in "Off Unit" Treatment Programs such as Vocational and Educational Training Program, and "Shock Treatment" had already at that time been done away with.
I was a patient there at that facility from March 1986 - March 1987 at the age of 16 at the time and was on the Adolescent Unit housed in the Acacia Building and that facility was much better than it was way back in those early days.
During my time there, there were scheduled groups and activities daily and "Off Unit" Vocational and Educational Training Programs which I engaged in on a daily basis.
Stockton State Hospital/Developmental Center Site today is used by California Stanislaus University. ( Located on Magnolia/California Streets in Stockton)

You forgot 1 restraunt called the "Drive in". It's was a 60's theme restraunt across from Lous chicken bowl at the corner with a Car on the roof. It later turned into a Blockbuster video store.

The theater address is 1825 Pacific. The original Stockton theater was built by Westland Theaters in 1944. They owned the south east half of the block. The demarcation is the alley between buildings. The three additional auditoriums were added in the mid 70's AKA Stockton Royal Theaters. Westland Theaters sold the property in the mid 90's. I was the last property in their inventory. Westland Theaters corporation dissolved following the sale.

Re: Safeway/ Tap Plastics: I can't say for sure when it stopped being a Safeway, but I was born in 1952 and have memories of being in there when it was a grocery store. It had wooden floors.....and I am certain I was old enough to walk and talk. I left Stockton in 1985 and can't remember that place being a TAP Plastics. My guess is the "since 1952" on the TAP Plastics sign references how long TAP Plastics .......as a company........has been in existence.
