I grew up in Stockton and my parents are buried right behind the Weber masoleum. I have loved Stockton's history and it's nice to know a little more details on C.M. Weber. I thoroughly enjoyed this history lesson and look forward to more about some every courageous folks that made their way to and settled in the West. Thank you!
I used to live in Stockton. The caterpillar tractor was invented there by Benjamin Holt. His story is very interesting too, if you ever want to cover it.
Thank for this. I live in Stockton and my husband's family was related to the Weber family and helped to settle the area in 1853 as well. So, this is a special place.
I’ve lived in Stockton majority of my life and it’s so interesting to hear the history of such a frowned upon city. I love my city and I appreciate working to help better the Delta at my job!
Thanks, Kiana. Stockton sure has some unsavory image problems for sure which belie its amazing history. Maybe somebody Stockton (indeed all of California) can clean up its act. The homelessness has become a problem that hasn't been adequately addressed. The same goes for the crime and drugs, which I think are all linked. I truly think there is a spiritual problem at heart.
I grew up in Chico California where John Bidwell settled. I’ve been through Stockton many times but never knew the history of Charles Webber. I really enjoy this channel for these unexpected snippets of American history
What a wonderful way to start my Sunday. Excellent video about my home state once again. You make me a better Californian. Very good job on editing and choice of music. That really makes a video like this work
Terrific video. Interesting Stockton history. A person can walk by those areas today and not realize all of the activities that were happening there a hundred or more years ago.
What a nice day to start my Sunday! A nice history lesson on our city. I know that cemetery well; I might go visit Weber on my next visit. You're better than a history teacher on local history. I like the way you narrate and do your research, it's very thorough. Thank you Jeff and Sarah 👏
That was such an interesting episode of history hunter. I never knew that about Stockton and I'm so happy they at least saved of the old buildings. Great job Jeff.
Interesting to hear about the history of Stockton and Webber. I do like the Mausoleum as well as the story of firing the flag thru the cannon. Also nest to see where Webber lived on the point. Thanks for the history.
Great history lesson - thank you! Knowing that the City I grew up in and love once belonged to Mexico is somewhat bittersweet. I do however, have a great sense of connection to this land either way. My life's journey began in Mexico, in 1964. My family moved to Stockton in 1971 or there abouts. Stockton has received a lot on negative publicity through the years and for good reason. Personally and unfortunately, I contributed my fair share of the problem in my younger days. Today, in my newfound path and as a person in recovery from that lifestyle, I am on the other side and I've been part of the solution for the last 34 years. I have deep gratitude for being allowed to have a "second chance" to become a productive member of society. After 34 years, I still find great satisfaction from the work I do and contributing to this community in a positive way. My sense of personal responsibility to give back has never left me since day one of my new journey. To me Stockton is still Someplace Special. Thank you, Stockton.
I'm currently living in Stockton, for the second time. Excellent vlog on Weber and the founding of Stockton. There's so much interesting history in the Central Valley, thanks for the extensive but concise telling of our history. Edit: For a few years, the Stockton Ports were called the "Mudville Nine," speaking of Mudville. And the current ballpark is called Banner Island Ballpark, though it isn't an island any more.
I’ve lived in stockton my whole life i was born in 1991 !! I love watching videos on stockton please make more ! And maybe you can do some in Lodi California also !
Growing up in the 50's I knew Stockton for two weeks a year when my father took his vacation from lAPD and worked for Santa Fe R.R. as a railroad cop (long story). Old Stockton of today is nothing like those days that's for sure. Thanks for the historical background, I can count on you guys to provide interesting information for us.
Thank you for such an interesting video. The Webers and other of their kind are the backbone of the civilization we all know today. It's good to learn about and remember so that hopefully, fewer of us take it all for granted. Another great historical video!
Hey Jeff great video Stockton is a neat looking place that's a great part of history you and Sara go to some awesome places thanks for sharing this video you and Sara are awesome randy from Kentucky keep western Kentucky in your prayers God bless.
Thanks for the uplifting presentation! As a little girl, I was at the Kennedy rally in the Weberstown mall. It was very dangerous and overcrowded. I climbed up on an indoor tree planter in order to stay safe. Weberstown had no safety measures in place.
Thank you Jeff. I very much enjoy your weekly history lessons. I have learned so much from your videos. It is so bad that I can hardly wait till my next lesson. Lol... Keep up the good work. You and Sarah are wonderful people. Take care and God Bless you both.
Thank you for the very wonderful comment. It’s heartwarming to know that you look forward to our videos every week. I hope we can keep up the pace. Lol. It is a lot of work but the payoff is knowing that great people like you are not only be entertained but are being educated about our history.
I was a regular at that cemetery. My grandparents and family members are buried there. Once in a while I will stop by the Captain's crypt and pay my respects.
Hi Jeff, really enjoyed your UA-cam video of Charles Weber. I was born and raised in Stockton, Ca and cannot tell you how many times I have been to the cemetery, I have several family members buried there. I no longer live in California, but what a treat to see it, maybe someday in the near future maybe you can make a whole day roaming Stockton, and going to cancuns best restaurant in Stockton. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for sharing! Hey Mary, wasn't there a restaurant along the water front from the side where I was standing? I remember going to one in the early 1980s!
@@jbenziggy there was, but it was moved to miner Ave, due to the cinema being built, Cancun's it a very authentic Mexican restaurant, my husband when alive would only go there, it was opened in the mid 1940'S😃
Stockton buried in Princeton as you mention. I live nearby. Family lawyer, farmer, and signer of the declaration of independence. Have land to Princetion University. Mansion is Morven. Still there.
I love that cemetery! I've done a couple photo shoots there and my father and brother are buried there. Just a gorgeous place, I've walked past Weber's monument with not idea till now. They teach you nothing about this in school and I was in Stockton SD for a good amount of my childhood.
It is hard to imagine the courage it took to start a 4 - 6 month adventure in a wagon. If you got sick, more than a cold, you might be left by all the others so they wouldn't catch what you have. Bringing all your possessions along and before the end having to leave them along the trail. Wind storms, wind, indians, if your wagon broke or animals died, you walked. It is an adventure enough to look back from the comfort of your home.
Thank you Jeff and Sarah this is the most interesting and informative channel on UA-cam I look forward to watching it every Sunday God Bless and take care.
Thank you Jeff for another great history lesson. Where I'm from in Detroit we had a Webber family there with well-known but they spelled it with two B's. They were tied in with Joseph Lowithian Hudson the founder of Hudson's department stores in Detroit. They were his nephews.
I have always been curious about Weber lane and Weber’s Town Mall... had no idea they were connected to the founder of Stockton... Great job as always Jeff!👍👍

Always great videos, I am sure your history lesson about Stockton provides more information than what is being taught in Stockton schools. Stockton seems to always be in the the shadow of neighboring Sacramento so most of us never knew who Weber was and why Stockton is named. I remember the day, back around 2007, when I was strolling around that same old Catholic cemetery, and found the Weber family crypt. I was shocked that no one had made him a Findagrave memorial page and so I quickly made he, and his other family members interred there, pages. Findagrave wasn't a big thing back then, who knows, maybe it never was, but I was into it for several years and added many memorials and photographs to the site. Fireman, Thomas J. Weber was known for his love of gardening, was said to have planted many plants around the Stockton Rural Cemetery, located directly behind the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery. Great job on the video .
