Colson was a terrific Captain America fanboy,. Stark dislikes Captain America because his father adores Captain America (& probably couldn't stop singing his praises - making it like an absent, favored, older brother scenario), so in an act of rebellion towards his father, Stark distains Capt America. Superb video Lorerunner! I hope you continue doing MCU ruminations
This movie used Loki, the villain the 616 Avengers formed to fight, and the Chitari, the villains the Ultimates (Ultimate Universe Avengers) formed to fight. That sums up the MCU perfectly. It takes stuff from the main 616 Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe, and blends them to create its own thing.
I started by listening to your ST videos, stuff that I like and care about and know at least a bit about. But now, I don't even care that much what the video is about... BASED ON, not "about", would be a better term, I just like listening to you thinking out loud. Regardless of what's your source material for the video, I always find some thoughts that inspire me in some way or are just interesting/enjoyable to hear and know that a person produced them. You have a pleasant charismatic voice, and pleasant(ly) interesting thoughts. Oh and being bald suits you about two magnitudes more than the long-semi-blue-haired look from way back then ;) Fits your voice and mind much better, similar to how Picard would be silly/lose most of his gravitas with hair.
This what makes Tony and Steve the faces, the souls and the hearts of the mcu as well as the leaders/Co leaders of the Avengers they play so well off each other pretty much the Batman and superman of marvel. What do y'all think?
The Tesseract is the Space Stone but throughout the First Avenger it was only used as a power source. It seems clear that while each Stone has a specific purpose they are all still power sources. The Arc Reactor was also based on studying the 'Space' Stone (as you pointed out) yet the Reactor is also a power source. So the Mind Stone firing blasts is nothing really odd, heck, Vision uses it to fire energy too. The staff was probably set up to make use of the Mind Stone as a power source as well as affecting minds. I'm sure using the actual Power Stone instead would simply make these things more overwhelmingly powerful than they currently are.
Thank you for that. Too many tubers put up spoiler posts which basically tells people who haven't seen the movie not to watch it and then proceed to tell people about what happens in a movie they've already seen. I know what happens but I want to know what you think, that's why I'm here. Apart from how good or bad it was the have very little to add. Your ruminations have much to add and generally go with my own thoughts about the why's and wherefore's and even open up more avenues for discussion, this is good. I think you've done an especially excellent job for this one in that I relived the movie as you were going through it and in detail. I could see every scene even the dutch tilt so much so that I don't even have to watch the movie (which I was going to in preparation for Infinity tomorrow). That is the highest compliment I could give any reviewer and it is well deserved. One thing, top 30? Top 10! As a Marvelite from way back it was truly the first movie where the promise of an actual Superhero movie was realised, awesome.
When the avengers snap in to action after being manipulated/controlled by the scepter, it sorta reminds me of your feelings on dandelion from the Witcher. Whatever hangups the group has, when the chips are down they do what needs to be done. Not sure if I conveyed that properly but I hope my point came across clear. Btw awesome rumination!
I generally like the way Joss Whedon writes stories more so than how he writes his characters. The reason I say that is because he tends to present all of his characters to be witty, sarcastic, self aware arseholes. This was one reason why I got tired of watching all of Buffy, literally every character felt the same. Don't get me wrong, I love a good quip and witty humour, but too much of it can get exhausting. Having said that, I love the way he wrote the Avengers because whilst they all have a sense of humour, they at least feel different in personality and bounce off one another effectively.
"This was one reason why I got tired of watching all of Buffy, literally every character felt the same." i disagree. with this one specific sentence. Everything you said before - yes. But this one - no. I still understand what you mean, but I maintain that every character had a distinct defining feature different from others. Librarian guy (forgot the name) was the "knowledgeable but useless in any other way" guy. ...okay, i probably forgot most of their names... XD the dude friend guy was the "goofy and mostly useless" guy. Willow was... well yeah she changed, but btw she never was an asshole... not even that sarcastic... I remember her being distinctly wallflower (until her black magic arc got going, obviously). Spike was the emo-cool-posturing dude. So... I understand your position, a single feature is quite little for making distinctive personalities/characters, but at the same time I disagree because as I remember having percieved it, it was enough to make them into distinct characters. But yeah, as I rememember, the main reason why I DIDN'T get tired of watching all of Buffy was mostly because I liked the vibes. The mix of stupid light teenage comedy drama, with... the kind of avenger-y interactions... You know how ST:TNG has the vibe of the world you'd love to live in? That kind of stuff, except not a world I would love to live in, just a world that was awesome to visit regularly for a while, but the same principle. So maybe that made me pay less attention to the actual characters. Also maybe the fact that I mostly don't give a shit about people contributed XD Even though back then I think I still cared quite a lot about people.
43:50 and in Ragnarok in a quick reintroduction to him on that gladiator planet I can't remember name of right now, he was telling a group of people faintly that he did let go lol
I just wanted to point a small scene, where Thor is reaching his hammer after the fall from the Shield base. He hesitates to grab it, i love that little moment of him thinking "Am i worthy?".
13:37 in layman's terms no focusing lense would be my guess so instead of the power going -----() it went -~-~-~_-_-() and had lots of bleed off that damaged the space around it also maybe a failsafe built into the lab by SHIELD? 20:43 it works here but i hated it when its used later it felt like ok we need to get to here how do we do it? ok we use black widow on loki (puzzle solved) you can no move past the locked door, to clarify the Loki widow thing is ok even good up to the end when widow says your after the hulk and runs out to save the day and Loki is like “”wait? What just happened? Wasn’t I ment to be terrifying you?”” The reason I dislike it so much is they don’t learn anything they didn’t already know or suspect, if Loki had said how he was going to turn the hulk loss on them, that would have been fine but he dosnt so all they know is hulk bad? Ok so just keep treating banner cool, also the bit right after this is a mess are they sating halkeye had the tesseract on the quinjet? As that seams dumb? 35:29 so for anyone thats a fan of Buffy or Angel the guy that plays the other is the same actor that played wesley wyndam pryce in them two shows, i knew i knew him from somewhere but couldn't put my finger on it until last week, i was looking to see if Alyson Hannigan was still with Alexis Denisof and google did that thing were it shows pics of films that actors are linked to and it showed this and Guardians and i was like ""wait hes in them? WHO AS? and ye he plays the Other (with his creepy two thumbed hands, i dont know why thats so creepy) 36:53 i want the lego kit of the shield helicarrier its stupidly overpriced at £300 to £500 but its is one of the coolest kits i have seen. 59:47 and this is a plot hole, maybe? I can’t say much as it’s may be a spoiler for films that haven’t even finish filming yet but maybe shield encountering Thor was a walk up call and it isn’t a plot hole? 1:23,13 actually the Council isn’t hydra their the ones we see in winter soldier, so them nuking New York is just them been evil for no reason.
That scene between Loki and Widow didn't play that well to me because of one point. Remember when Loki told to Fury "Nice cage but I'm afraid it wasn't built for me." He explicitly referred to Hulk, and he also smiled at Banner as soon as he arrived, so we all knew at that point that he is there for Hulk. Still the nice scene though, but didn't make any sense.
I'd say it's arguable that the vast majority of actual aggression between the heroes was directly being fueled by Loki's influence, including the initial Ironman vs Thor fight, though Tony made a bad move attacking him first the way he did and his attitude certainly didn't help things.
I just got home from seeing infinity war and I see this notification on my feed. A perfect day. I CANNOT WAIT for your rumination on Infinity War. For now I'll thoroughly enjoy your rumination on Avengers!!
I'm surprised to learn anyone didn't think the scepter was influencing the Avengers to be honest. That was my assumption the first time I ever saw this film and I've assumed it ever since 🤔
Theory, in Winter Soldier, Hydra has the staff... Loki's soliloque in Avengers... is very similiar to "Hydra 2.0"'s ideology. If Thanos can influence Loki through the Staff... maybe he's also influencing Hydra. Edit... maybe not Thanos, but maybe the Mind Stone is sentient? That would make certain sense.
This was perfect. Saw Infinity Wars last night and woke up to this. Just like how they pulled off The Avengers in 2012, they pulled off Thanos and Infinity War in 2018. Thank you Lore for doing my nominated request of five Ruminations. This was something I was really passionate about getting going and I'm thankful to have contributed to your catalog of ruminations. The intent of the request was more of a celebration of what got us here today in the film industry. Iron Man changed everything, the Avengers changed everything. The amount of movies that have been pumped out and have not been universally panned as terrible is astonishing. That statement is debatable and film is supposed to be subjective, but I am just thankful for all the people involved in the MCU. Kevin Fiege in particular because if you notice the other studios attempting to do their own universes are lacking is a good Kevin Fiege. Now I've noticed people asking if Lore will do the other MCU movies (Phase 2 & 3). Thats not on the rumination schudele, I only specifically requested Phase 1 because 17 superhero movies in one cycle is too much. If you are a fan of the MCU, go see Avengers Infinity War.
I wanted to watch this after seeing Infinity War a couple times. As always a great rumination. The first Avengers movie is up there for me in terms of favorite movies period. Where I'm not sure, but up there. It's just amazing that this all did come together so well and was such a memorable experience. Interesting point on the portal being made at the start. It would make sense for needing to use our side of it to make the door open. Hawkeye can say his clever line, but he doesn't actually know how that thing works. And wouldn't be impossible Selvig to start the process of the portal opening, leave for a while and then it only starts getting 'out of control' while no one is there. Again, Hawkeye doesn't know how that thing works so he could be fooled. Just a really strong movie as a whole. Not much I want to say about specifics, just that I agree with a lot being said.
Regarding the kneeling scene, I wasn't a fan of it just because Captain America has turned up, does not mean people would get up. In real life people would probably crawl away and then when out of sight run for their lives.
IMO when the people see Captain America, they see history standing before them. And they remember that they have an obligation to honor history by not cowering to tyrants. That ordinary people have fought and died for causes greater than themselves, and can do so again.
Actually I watched Infinity War two days ago on the 25... Lore, I won't go into spoilers here so you just have to watch it. I am just going to comment on one thing. When Stark talks about Coulson during their low moment I always though that he was really talking about himself. I think he had realized by then, or at least finally admitted that this was way beyond him, even with all his tech and superior intellect. I am not sure - in the Marvel comics at least - there are only a few people smarter, Mr. Fantastic of the F4 to name a few. I would like to know what you think about Infinity War. Personally I loved it and I am going to watch it again fairly soon.
Hope you are going to be doing Phase 2 and 3 as well, my biggest pothole was that Hulk all of a sudden could control his anger on command but the first time he couldn't
Thanks. The only comment I have concerns your mention of how the heroes seem to be getting blamed for the destruction at the end. Yes, it's dumb. But only from our perspective (which is the correct one, of course.) But to the politicians, it's a smart play. After they couldn't handle the situation, and after the Avengers have to come in and save the day, the politicians know they could end up looking inept. So, they'll go on the offensive, instead. They'll actually change the conversation, by blaming the Avengers for the destruction. They'll hope that enough people saw (and felt) the fear & chaos, such that they'll take up the argument out of that old tried & true need to blame someone - anyone - for their suffering. This way, the politicians (think) they're one step ahead of the game. It's an old, old trick. But it works, even out here in real life. People will often allow themselves to be led around by their noses - just for the privilege of being led. The horrible alternative would be for the people to stand up - together - and handle situations. But then, that would put politicians out of business. tavi.
so with a spoiler that's in infinity war it adds another plot hole that will be interesting to see how they fix it or if they do, but i cant explain because spoilers but if i someone that hasnt seen infinity war has spotted it im sure most of the people that have will have spotted it, i'll hope i am awake for lores spoiler talk about IW. but on to stuff i can talk about, ""im always angry"" didnt bother me as much as most it was a shock but its better than a hero that has to be slapped all the time :D as for mark ruffalo i like him and think he is a great banner shame we are unlikely to ever see him is a solo hulk film but never mind. i love the dialog of this film the old man to loki, nick fury, nick fury, nick fury (he must have it in his contract that he gets some of the best lines) ""out of all the people on this boat, why do i feel he is the only one that wants to be here?"" robert downey jr impedance joke (i say RDJ as it feels like it was ad libbed) and lastly colson ""you get the big guy"" Romanova ""you know Stark dosnt trust me"" Colson ""no ive got Stark, you get the big guy"" Romanova [FEAR!!!] also we see how dangerous Hawkeye is when you remove his morals (shame considering how people see him in later films), isnt it a good job loki didnt get Romanova too?
...ok, the background video during the opening title (0:00 - 0:20) is obviously from some Sunflower-style (== economic/building strategy) game. What game is it, please?
No, they were Coleson’s cards. Fury bloodied them up so he use them as motivation, as if that were Coleson’s blood on the cards. Given the situation, there was plenty of blood around for him to use.
I remember that commentary. It would kind of defeat the purpose of Cap's line if he was also a person standing above everyone else. Having people slowly rising up fits with his image of not being above everybody.
I like Whedon's work, but the fact that all of his works pander to his own gross foot fetish is something I find revolting. Yeah the Black Widow scene exists so he can do close ups of SJ's feet. I don't care that he has the fetish. I bothers me that he uses his work to indulge it.
What, six weeks ago? Yeah, I 'member. Don't worry. The Zootopia thing was due to one patron asking for Lore to choose one of his own ruminations, and MCU Phase 1 was by FAR one of the most popular requests this year, obviously taking five weeks. Relax, he'll be back to games on June 1st with Seiken Densetsu 3.
Fury dealing with the Council always reminds me of Commander Shepard with the Citadel council. Any second I expect Fury to just hang up on them.
Colson was a terrific Captain America fanboy,.
Stark dislikes Captain America because his father adores Captain America (& probably couldn't stop singing his praises - making it like an absent, favored, older brother scenario), so in an act of rebellion towards his father, Stark distains Capt America.

The difference in the portals is actually stated very explicitly, in why Selvig needed iridium: it's a stabilizing agent.

I agree 100% other than that though the rumination was spot imho
*spot on
And in Thor TDW, the Aether gives similar blasts too

I can list Joss Whedon's work that I like.
Firefly, his X-Men run, Avengers, Avengers 2, Doctor Horrible.

He does them by patreon request. If enough people with enough money ask him to do it come next request cycle, then yes.

I think the reason the first portal went unstable is because the device Shield had the cube hooked up to wasn't designed to create portals

Sending the Avengers off to Malibu or Maui? Really? Not Tahiti? I hear it's a magical place...
What if the heroes went to Tahiti? It’s a magical place.
so with a spoiler that's in infinity war it adds another plot hole that will be interesting to see how they fix it or if they do, but i cant explain because spoilers but if i someone that hasnt seen infinity war has spotted it im sure most of the people that have will have spotted it, i'll hope i am awake for lores spoiler talk about IW.

@@Lorerunner oh.
thank you very much for the answer :)
I've never finished W3. and this angle and place... for some reason didn't feel witchery to me.
@@Lorerunner oh and i would have never expected you personally to reply to anything i wrote :)
thanks for making my day with that detail :)
I always thought that the cards being in Coulsons locker meant that the bloody cards were someone else's cards. Fury's cards.
No, they were Coleson’s cards. Fury bloodied them up so he use them as motivation, as if that were Coleson’s blood on the cards. Given the situation, there was plenty of blood around for him to use.
The German people standing was a directorial choice to prevent an American saves the day image.
I remember that commentary. It would kind of defeat the purpose of Cap's line if he was also a person standing above everyone else. Having people slowly rising up fits with his image of not being above everybody.
Really want to see your avengers 3 opinions
psychic energy !
How much would it cost for you to do Phase 2? And maybe Phase 3 in a year?
the stone is inside a container !
Oh hell yeah
Lore after reading his Wonder Woman script, everyone hates Joss Whedon now.
Spawnfreak Was it really that bad? (I haven't read it myself)
From what game is this landscape shot behind you?
The Witcher 3
It’s Barton, not Burton :)
You sound like Ultron
That's.... Touissant. Goddammit now I have to replay Witcher 3 again.... thanks Lorerunner for forcing 100 hours of awesomeness onto me.
DO PHASE 2!!!!
I like Whedon's work, but the fact that all of his works pander to his own gross foot fetish is something I find revolting.
Yeah the Black Widow scene exists so he can do close ups of SJ's feet. I don't care that he has the fetish. I bothers me that he uses his work to indulge it.
Gallen Dugall what the fuck?
You’re thinking of Tarantino, friend
Joss s Whedon wrote Toy Story
StoryTellerWes
Nah, but he was a script doctor on it. Not his original script though.
The league of extraordinary gentleman, much better :)!
YOU SAID JOSS WHEDON WAS BAD?! HOW DARE YOU!!!!!
To be fair.. a good chunk of his stuff is a little overrated.
Remember when you use to do games...
