Rouge is just a way for Air Canada to offer less service for the same price as main line. That being said it will definitely be a change to fly 737 max instead of the tired Airbus, especially competing against Porter!
Porter Airlines is way above in service then Air Canada . It’s to bad the government of Canada didn’t allow the expansion at Billy Bishop airport. As the runway has all ready been expended. It would have been a made in Canada solution as they could have flown the Bombardier C series jet Airbus a220. Let’s Not forget Air Canada is a Top rated airline in North America for many years. Air Canada needs to focus on operational reliability, staffing, and customer service. It doesn't matter what aircraft you have if you can't get these things right.
Moving the Boeing narrow bodies to Rouge and all the A320 series planes to mainline Air Canada actually does help with that, especially staffing and crew training as well as maintenance. It should also make things more reliable and punctual than they are but we’ll see.
I believe they are, but not in the way you and I think. They're looking at it from a Minimal Viable Product point of view, not from maximizing customer satisfaction.
Yeah.... Given 737 max had poor operational reliablity , transparency and is a poorly made airplane "designed by monkey" as Boeing employees put it , and even crashes , they is the best decision they made
Sounds like Air Canada hope to develop Rouge into airline similar to Jetstar and Quantas model. This can only be done with failure of discount and charter airlines models.

I wonder if there is enough of a business market for Toronto-Sydney non-stop? They would have to buy a few a350 ULR but they could be used elsewhere as well (capetown/johannesburg).
Toronto-Sydney had been planned in the early 2000s with the purchase of A340-500. However, as part of its restructuring under CCAA (bankruptcy protection in canada) in 2004, Airbus made a new deal and supplied at lesser cost, some early production 340-500 that had inoperative centre fuel tank and thus no range to do the YYZ-SYD non stop.
I would like to see an the adoption of the C-Series/A220 aircraft in Canada, not of Boeing aircraft. Heck, I would even be exited to see more Embraer aircraft.
Ultra Long haul is needed to paliate the fact that you can't fly great circle to Asia with closure of Russia to western airlines. That long detour needs to have greater range. However, with AC dead set on making coach as miserable as it can to push people to pay for premium economy, there isn't much justification to do ultra long haul on a wide body with coach cabin. They should focus on the 321 fitted with business and premium economy only.
Not that great news for Canadians. We have been getting Rouged for years now. You buy a ticket with AC at full price and then they reschedule it as a Rouge flight but offer no credits. So you end up paying full price for a discount carrier ticket. Air Canada has major work to do. They have one of the worst on-time records.
All of this is old news was already known since the pilots signed their new contract. Nothing new and that’s why AC stock lost 10% after all this “new announcement”. There is still zero announcement for a replacement for the aging 777 and this company clearly lacks long term Vision
I wonder is Air Canada looking at a 45-50 plane A320neo order for its mainline fleet. I wouldn't be surprised that the 777-200LR's are replaced by more 787-9's.
An another site reported the mainline fleet will be a combination of A220's & A321LR's to replace the current 737 Max's and the 12 on order going over to Rouge. 787-9's will added, along with 787-10's replacing the A330's now in service. No A350's on order. Even if they did AC would increase the row seating from 9 to 10 as some airlines have done. This would match the 10 across now on their 777's.
@@jayb9779 787 10 has less range than 787 9 ac will increase range on 787 and 77 fleet by removing seats in economy and increasing business and premium economy seating

The 777’s are their flagship, and not all of them are how you describe. Also they have 787’s, why would they buy the A350 with the 787 in service? When they replace the 777’s eventually it will likely be 777x and the A330 eventually replacement in the long term would be interesting to see. Maybe they use the A330neo?

Air Canada is getting to be more and more a Low cost airline, has far as service It's really a low low cost one. Definitively The cheapest and worst airline in the world
How about they invest on their actual customers like rolling back their stupid ultra basic fare restrictions and fee after fee after fee. Then youll get more business
Air Canada treats their passengers like crap and refusing to pay penalties when the courts rule against them. They will spend tens of thousands of dollars to avoid paying after a Judge has made a ruling. Shame on Air Canada
I want to be excited for Air Canada, but our few friends that live there have had repeat experiences that actually sound more like Spirit’s level of customer service versus say a United like experience. Honestly been too afraid to risk seeing for myself.
I'm truly amazed at people's ignorance - is it deliberate? The feed for roller bag carry-on is only on the lowest fare. Another way of putting it is: their no-frills fare will have no frills. But I guess you wanted no-frills fare, but with all the frills!?

So air Canada is separating its narrow body domestic flights by putting them under the rouge branding?
Firstly they need to reduce the half filled flights, to British colonies to reduce the cost and use that equipment for high traffic destinations
Air Canada should look way south in South America for expansion of opportunity of good performance routes.
Air Canada Rough may get the 737 max aircraft but I am more concerned about how they plan to address their terrible on time performance.
AC needs to replace its A330s with newer A330 neos...but I guess 787s instead
-10s to be precise
Ask Malaysia Airlines how's that working out for them.😅😅😅
