I own this snare, it's amazing how much definition and stick control you get from this budget snare, it can also sound massive, it has a lot of attack, a great crack to it and it doesn't produce unnecessary overtones even without muffling.
@@davis_taylor.1984 put a moongel, 4 balls of cotton on top of the batter head, or use a double or thicker head (like Controled Sound, Powerstroke P77, Evans Hydraulic or Remo Pinstripe Coated)
Nick, love your Work since Spock's beard V album! Saw you guys a long time ago in Portugal. Have you tried the same snare but in 13x7? Any comparison between the two? I'm looking for a poppy/crack but full bodied sound. Thanks in advance!
@@Eagles.Fan.Since.Super.Bowl.52 I've tried different heads on this snare, here is my experience: Stock Evans G1 Coated: great and ready out the box Sound Remo Powerstroke 3: Nice cracking sound and rimshot at high tunning, also in low tunning does a great job, for some reason, at medium tunnings it doesn't sounds good to me Remo Controled Sound Clear: maybe one the best heads for this snare, gives excellent overtone control and realy punchy sound in all tunnings Evans UV1: my current head on it. For me, the best choice. It's a single-ply head (like the ambassador) and has great durability, which you will like. The most versatile head for this snare. It's sounds beautiful on any tunning range, try it. You won't regret

Agree, I also have this one, the Sound Arc hoops make a gives a great attack and really loud cracking rimshot
The roll starting at 1:53 reminds me a lot of Billy Cobham's snare sound in the intro to Stratus from his Spectrum album.
Sounds beautiful!
Amazing playing as always, Nick
Tama always makes bad ass anything. Even this budget snare at $199.99 sounds amazing!!! Thank You @TamaOfficialDrums
I wish this was in stock at SW today so I could return the favor. I'm very impressed at that price.
these snare drums are surprisingly good...i have the 13'...very versatile
You are The Man, D´Virgilio :) I just ordered the 14x6

what is the tension of both heads?
sounds sick!
That’s a great crack for an inexpensive snare and much less expensive than the SLP line.
Is the difference in the quality of the wood and fittings ?
Maybe the lugs, they don't feel so sturdy as the SLP line, but hoops, wood and even heads have great quality
What a perfect drum!
i have one, its great special for the money unbeleiveble

Sorry to say Andre that I have not tried the 13 x 7 but I will see if I can get my hands on one and let you know,
All the best!
Nick
Thanks Nick!
Ever try out that 13x7 yet.
You rarely see a top drummer advertise a budget snare….and make it sound great…
I have the exact snare but it doesn't sound this good WHY?!!!
3:45 he said he outfitted the drum with a coated ambassador. That’s not the stock batter head.
Maybe EQ?

Destoyed rimshots sticks :P
^_^
HAHAHAHAHA agree, the hoops are stick-eaters 😂

I hate when people do rim shots while reviewing snare drums . They all sound the same or at least similar. Can't hear the real sound of the shell...
