Shout out to Sweetwater for creating such in depth and helpful videos for gear such as this! Such a lover of all of the work they put in. Nick and the crew really go above and beyond and it shows. Everything you would need to know/hear before purchasing something, they cover it. Workhorses! Thanks Sweetwater! Keep up the great work! I am and have always been a proud customer/supporter! ❤
JJ Tama has always made quality metal snares so if you don’t have a collectors mentality and want an arsenal of snares you’re probably fine with that Brass snare. I have the Starphonic Copper and I’d like to hear a comparison with this snare. I bet they come close but the Starphonic is 7” deep so it has a bit more growl and bark down low.
@@rol0511 If you are really into Tama drums and have a few I would say yes it is worth it. If your starting out your collection due to the price increases I would say it’s a 50/50 since you can find 2 used drums for the same amount of $$$. I would choose the Starphonic Copper over the Star all day long.
This snare drum is perfect. I wanna hear a side by side difference between this Tama star reserve copper and the new Tama starphonic copper snare. And I personally never muffle my snare drums. I just love the slight ring you hear in a loud live band setting when it’s tuned right. Only in the studio if the producer asks for some muffling I will but never prefer to if it’s up to me.
It is a bit of a fashion faux pas to mix chrome with gold...and with copper, even more. I would have liked the appearance more if the hardware were all chrome or all gold...but not mixed. Sounds excellent though, and that is what really matters!
Nick, according to Tama it takes almost half an hour to hammer one of these shells lol.. but hey the brass reserve one is my absolute dream snare drum. you can't imagine how bad I want one but it's around 1000€ so I am doomed and wanna cry because im not sure I can ever afford one of these
Nick is really an awesome presenter and drummer. Nick, you can sell the ocean to a shark. One thing this demo proved to my bias is that Remo really does make the best drum heads.
Incredible snare drum. I own one. Those "mighty" brass hoops aren't that mighty though. Seems to me to be soft and nicks up after several hours of playing.
why would anyone commit to spending the (justified) crazy sum of money for this absolute BEAUTY of a hand crafted instrument, only to neuter it with an evans ST dry. Thats like buying a mclaren 720s and then putting donuts on it.
6:00 wrong!!! Its a Nylon washer (Black) and the second washer (Steel) its a metal cup with rubber ring inside touching the nylon washer....All Star, Starclassic Maple, and SLP snares featured that. That feature keeps the drum in tone and make easy to tune.
Nick is is a great presenter and drummer, I like him very much...but the snare leave me a bit at a loss...maybe because of terrible snarewires Tama made, the Tama wires are much to thin and have less response and projection, for a drum at this pricepoint not really adequate! Put a S 30 on this buddy and I bet, you will get what this drum really offers. 😉
After you watch, give this video a thumbs up and subscribe! 😎🤘
I bought a Tama Starphonic Copper from you guys. I'm really enjoying it. It would be cool if you did a side by side comparison video of the 2.

Nick D'Virgilio is a really great drummer! I think he's the best drum gear presenter ever.
I would marry this snare drum.
The name alone tells you that this is one pricey snare.
Jerry McKenzie $999
It’s not that pricey and completely worth the money. Best SR drum they’ve done so far in my book

@@Assimilator702 is the starphonic copper snare worth buying?

Now , that s a review . Huge work done on this one. Great work
Dude every video I watch Nick you tear it up! Ur a Great drummer sir
OMG, I absolutely love that you demo all those heads. Best snare demo vid I've ever seen
Thank you for doing this review with a 2pc! Wow, that sounds sick, So meaty but with plenty of bite.
Powerstroke P4 Coated was the best
Evans... St dry... Best sound in this video
Agreed. Out of curiosity, have you tried an Evans HD Dry? My favorite snare batter ever....just recorded with one and the results were amazing.
Not a Remo head fan but that powerstroke P4 heads sounds the best on this snare drum and I’ll be checking out those P4 heads.
Great idea to take the time to put different heads on...👌🏻🤘🏻 Thx for this!

Cool Snaredrum 👌🏼👍🏼🥁
Thanks nick awesome as usual
Thanks Nick..... Fantastic!!!
Nice drum. Sweetwater better pay nick well. His videos are awesome
The demo groove at the beginning gives me serious Enigmatic Ocean pt.2 by Jean Luc-Ponty
Thanks Nick!

that is a sweet sounding snare!
Play in .25 speed. The only way to listen to Nick.
What are those sticks?
Beautiful drum, great recording. What's the mic on the snare here?

BRAVO !! 🍺 😎 👍

Great demo guys!! Love that u did with a moongel and various heads!
Sounds good!
Boi i love this dude
Finally!
The Evans G14 is the perfect head for this snare.....
Is it just me or nothing can beat an ambassador head?
Incredible snare drum. I own one. Those "mighty" brass hoops aren't that mighty though. Seems to me to be soft and nicks up after several hours of playing.
I've been considering this snare. How bad are the hoops--been holding up? Worth it for the recording studio?
They are brass. For a hard hitter perhaps only a steel hoop withstands hard playing.
Hi nick!
Is it 14x6 or 14x6.5
Sweet.
Nick can you do a review of the new tama walnut/birch???
Yesssss I’ve been waiting for a Sweetwater demo of the new wb’s.
Im wondering how heavy this drum is
I don't know the weight but it's much heavier than I expected when I picked it up.

Over 16 minute review of a snare drum with no different tunings? Damn
St.Anger🤣 i know his was brass!
No wonder I hate that Evans head on my snare so much. Definitely putting an Aquarian Hi Velocity on my snare next time.
That sounds sexy!
So comprehensive demo and no multituning???

This snare would be perfect for Stuart Copeland. Sounds like something he would play.

get any 100 bucks snare and get shedding. gas is BS.
Nice snare! But way over priced!!! Did you see that ugly seam??
Shells made in Japan, but you get corroded Chinese hardware. Might as well just get a cheap Chinese set.
Nick stop playing with your lips poked out, you look like a guppy!
