I've never worried about fuel consumption because my bike is my pleasure so I don't care. I don't need satnav/Bluetooth, I know where I'm going ! The bike sounds fantastic but I don't like the look of that exhaust but love the sound !! The triple motor is and has always been fantastic !
A well considered review. I pretty much agree with most of your likes and dislikes. I road tested one when they first came out summer 2021. But instead I went for a 1050RS with very few miles on the clock as I felt it a better all round road bike. Although down on power only 148bhp it is still no slouch, it has more useable low down torque or shove, you don't have to rev it quite so much. I prefer the looks as well. The big thing I hate about mine which sort of involves the keyless is the firkin Datatool factory fitted alarm. It has a mind of it's own. It's a nightmare. Insurance I pay about £225 fully comp, 5k miles a year with 9 years NCD, clean license and no claims. Bike is garaged. But agree with you on the sound and smoothness of Triumph triple engines. Shame Triumph adopted the cross plane crank malarky with the new Tiger 900 and 1200 engines to try to make them sound and behave like twins eg KTM. Didn't get on with the new Tiger 900 GT Pro at all. Engine was uninspiring and suffered from vibes through both the bars and foot pegs. Anyway enjoy your 1200 RS.
@@andy_rides Yep, but felt it was too manic, even more so than the Speed 1200RS. You really had to rev it to keep the engine on song which again meant you were riding at silly speeds. I had it for nearly a full day. It was a 2018 bike and I think now Triumph have totally remapped the engine for the 2023 Street Triples so there is a lot more low down grunt. I shall have to try one, but I found the 2018 Street Triple RS pretty tiring to ride, flighty, where as the Speed Triple 1050RS was a revelation. It felt a lot more planted on the road, way more low down grunt and very quick without having to rev the nuts off it which you can do as well if you so wish and it sounds glorious.
The 1200RS is now my fourth Speed Triple. I agree to most of your topic. According to the power this is the first Speedy I do not feel underpowered as I am a quite heavy rider….😂 I added a slightly higher and wieder seat - so the position on the bike is handleble. I can ride a 1.000km a day on the new RS - but the older one was better.
Any remapping after exhaust swap? That can seriously effect your fuel consumption, also its a 1200 with 180 bhp, its not going to be as frugal as a 900 or a 650! 180 miles to a tank is good I would say.
I've not remapped yet, If anything that will make it worse as it will richen up the lower RPM's where these bikes are pretty lean. I didn't really notice any difference between fuel consumption after changing the exhaust. I think it's just a consequence of my right hand and as you say the 1200 engine!

Have to say an outstanding video presentation, with an honest down to earth, not to mention, constructive commentary. Thank you for posting. I have been riding a BMWR1250R since brand new, for 3 years, but warranty has finished. Big bucks coming up. 1 years extra warranty, £400, the bike is cheap to service but not at 12000 miles. Also my 'local' BM dealer is 50 miles away. My local triumph is but 3. Done a deal there for exactly this bike, but not yet committed. But can ride away 4 years warranty + plus breakdown, brand new. Local dealer if issues. I am a pensioner with several years no claims, my BW quote was £217 last year, been quoted £360 for this bike (£1050 for a ZX10, which I would not buy). Dont like TFT screens, the BM is idiotic and worse, but that is me. Like the old style clocks. My one concern is that the bike is reported to having an overly stiff suspension, you did not mention that, which is reassuring. The bike has virtually the same 0-100 kmph as the BM, but the BM is smooth at low revs due to its high torque engine. It seems the power is really reserved for high speed. The BM does 65 mpg, getting on to half that of this bike, but not doing more than 5000 miles a year, is not a big issue.
Thank you, I was so damn tempted by the new Street Triple and it probably would have been the better bike for road use but I was too impatient to wait for one so went with the Speed instead. Pretty sure I'll own a Street in the future!
@@andy_rides it’s really light so traffic maneuvering is really easy. It flicks so nicely. Accelerating under 80mph the 765 can do 9/10 as well as the speed. The speed really shines over 80 because it pulls harder in 4th than the street does in 3rd.
This is 100% what I was talking about in my last negative point in the video. Unfortunately pulling hard in 4th on the road is not the one haha. Glad you're enjoying your street :)

Accurate review. I reckon Triumph could make a 900 Speed, in the same chassis with the torque focused purely for more realistic and satisfying road use. There is real frustration in not being able to feed it the fat coz its just so damn quick on the road. Interestingly no comment on the suspension?
Not sure they would consider a 900, I think the Street & Speed triples between them offer everything anyone would ever need. Although I would like to see the Speed go over the 200bhp mark now to compete with some of the other hyper nakeds, although totally un-needed for the road. It was a while ago but I'm sure I mentioned the suspension in the review.
Andy, Nice summary👍 That 1200RS motor is an absolute peach❤. However as a sports & touring rider the lack of decent luggage rack carrying capacity for long weekends away & foreign trips seriously put me off & is my No1 hate about this bike ! It's a big shame Triumph don't put that sweet 1200RS motor in a Sprint or Tiger Sport with RS's 17"wheels ! As a long time 1050 owner with a luggage rack, i don't mind being a little down power wise on the 1200RS, however I really do hate what Triumph have done with the latest T plane crank motors for being far too finger numbingly vibey & saddled with a heavy shaft ! Hence many existing owners feel alienated by Triumph's current lineup ! The 765RS Street in Yellow or the 1200RS in Orange do come close however 😍 Ride safe 👍
Have you looked at some of the aftermarket options? I’ve got a pretty decent size bag that I can get on the pillion seat. Not something I use much but I know there are some decent pannier options out there too 👍🏻
I have an SW Motech rack & case on my 94R, so can take a box, a tail pack & a tankbag for trips & holidays away. I was told the luggage load limit on the 1200RS is a measly 7kg !
It's certainly better on long motorway journeys which you would expect from a larger engine as they don't need to rev so high. However whizzing around the B roads "enthusiastically" I find it gets a bit thirsty :)

Haha yeah the performance is a contentious one. It’s was more of an objectivity point for those who may be considering this bike. I was certainly glad to have it last night, managed to hit the limiter in 3rd and 4th 😂😂
Too much power is very accurate. Don't get me wrong its very nice to have it but to use it on streets is just very stupid as well. I was between the speed tripple and the speed twin 1200 and went with the speed twin for its characterful style, engine and power. It's a fast bike. fast enough for me to enjoy the sportyness and has a soul for me to cruise as well. tons of torque love it so far, but sometimes I wounder how things would have gone if I went for speed tripple instead.
From experience if you want to make that bike handle better on what you blokes call b roads and we call twisty’s first switch out bars to clip ons that have just a short riser on them, then if or when you have the extra funds switch out the foot controls to one’s that have a bit of a set back and offer a tad bit more cornering clearance.
I went to the dealership to check out the 2023 Triumph 1200 speed triple RS love the bike the problem way too aggressive position is there any handlebar risers they offer for that bike I was very disappointed I would last 3 minutes on that bike I have to go to the hospital LOL neck back shoulders knee how anybody could ride it is beyond me in that position.
You'll be ok for insurance in a few years' time chief, when the warranty has expired and you can go for TPFT instead of fully comp. I'm 66, have been riding for 50 years, having passed my test in 1974 and have a 2004 Japanese 1000cc V twin that I only pay £55 a year to insure. Road tax is double that ! After a certain point, fully comp is pointless, because anything other than a minor spill results in a bike being written off, so TPFT is fine, and any repairs can be done oneself, courtesy of breakers' services for parts.
Can you get handlebar risers for the speed triple 1200 rs i went down the dealership and check one of them out I want it but there's no way in hell would that position can I ride it more than a half a minute without my forearms back and neck exploding.
I’ve not seen any but it’s not something I have looked for. I find it slightly aggressive but it’s not that bad. I guess if you suffer though you’d have to settle for something much more upright.
My biggest gripe about my 22 speed triple 1200 rr is the dash board feel. It’s ugly and it’s clunky. Like the software is ugly and bad. Excellent bike!
Triumph bikes are like the women you want to marry. She’s naturally pretty and low maintenance but performs with the big dawgs. Shes not for the streets or high maintenance and not reliable long term. Lol
I hate to be the guy that whines about your complaint about power, but I think you might be the wrong customer for it. Hear me out: you should have gone for something like a middleweight naked like a GSX-750S as a next step up from your 660 based on the way you ride the bike. Looking at the size of your chicken strips, it’s not just the power that is useless to you on the street, it’s the whole rest of the bike. The right buyer for this bike is a guy who rides or used to ride full on sportbikes but wants to hurt less after a ride and just enough manners around town to go to work on nice days. These guys will ride the shit out of the bike on weekends and use up a rear tire in 1800 miles. You’’ll get 5-7,000 before you wear the tire flat in the center only. I don’t; blame you for buying the bike you think you wanted but this bike is fairly narrowly focused in terms of target market and you aren’t in it. My wife has a Street Triple 765RS and it is probably the bike you needed-I can go as fast as I want to on it in 98% of road riding, lead group rides on it, etc. It’s just a little slow in the 120mph sweepers when you open the throttle on the way out. It doesn’t destroy tires when ridden like this and it doesn’t drink gas. I’d be really happy with 180 miles from a tank-of my three big bore bikes, the R1M has 105 miles til the reserve, the K5 GSXR does 130-150, and the EBR1190RS does about the same..
Thanks for your comment, whilst I can't disagree that the Street Triple is the better bike for the road, I think you may have missed my point a bit and that is that the bike is too much for the "road". There is nowhere you can ride 120mph sweepers legally ;) I'll be the first to admit I'm no seasoned rider but I ride the crap out of it, the chicken strips are large because they are brand new tyres, I can only wish the first set had lasted even close to 5000 miles! Finally an average tank lasts me about 90-100 miles. Getting 180 miles was only possible on a 240 mile motorway journey with cruise control on at 70mph. I think ultimately you are making the same point I was trying to in the video. I love this bike and really struggled to find anything I really hate about it, just trying to be objective for those who may be considering this bike themselves :)
The tank range is a major factor in my looking at other options as I consider this bike. The Street in previous versions had a larger tank with decent range-160 miles easily riding how I want to. They dropped a half gallon with the latest model. :/ Nobody buys a liter bike to go slow on it. A CB500 is “too much bike” for the street by your measure, lol! All bikes are too fast, enjoy the last bit of freedom you can, while you can.

Lol on your complaint about fuel economy.....my 2013 E92 M3, with supercharger, gets about 160-180 miles out of 15 gallon tank while driven moderate

Neat bike. I was going to order a 2024 Carnival Red but my dealer got a 2024 Street Triple 765 RS in Carnival Red. I bought the smaller bike.

My MPG is great, but I didn’t change whole exhaust only muffler. Maybe that is the issue?🤔
The exhaust didn't really make any difference, I think it's just a combination of my right hand and being used to a smaller engine on a bike ;)

180 mpg range riding nice. That's pretty good for a hooligan bike. I had a test ride and it was doing 43mpg ...

The speed twins are lovely bikes. That’s a great engine, I had a Speedmaster 1200 previously. Really debated the speed twin as well 👍🏻

£55 is crazy cheap! In a few years I’ll probably be on a completely different bike, this is my 4th bike in a year 😂

I'll be the first to admit I'm no seasoned rider but I ride the crap out of it, the chicken strips are large because they are brand new tyres, I can only wish the first set had lasted even close to 5000 miles!
Finally an average tank lasts me about 90-100 miles. Getting 180 miles was only possible on a 240 mile motorway journey with cruise control on at 70mph.
I think ultimately you are making the same point I was trying to in the video. I love this bike and really struggled to find anything I really hate about it, just trying to be objective for those who may be considering this bike themselves :)
The tank range is a major factor in my looking at other options as I consider this bike. The Street in previous versions had a larger tank with decent range-160 miles easily riding how I want to. They dropped a half gallon with the latest model. :/
Nobody buys a liter bike to go slow on it. A CB500 is “too much bike” for the street by your measure, lol!
All bikes are too fast, enjoy the last bit of freedom you can, while you can.
