One of the reasons so many cultures considered silver pure was because silver is EXTREMELY toxic to bacteria, and before antibiotics were invented the only way to treat an infection was through amputation or leeches so when people found out silver powder could be rubbed into infections or placed into bandages to (before they knew what bacteria or infections were) purge rot from their bodies they naturally assumed it's healing properties were in someway magical or divinely pure. @ThatIsDumb that's not stupid. What part of "terrified" do you not understand? Also. Yes, imagine it is a teenager who says it while drunk. Death eaters arrive. They see that it isn't Harry. They leave. At no point does this ruin his plan.
@elenacottica386 If it happened the second time he took over, logically he would have done it the first time. Which would make more sense by the way people react to hearing it. Being uncomfortable with it is one thing, but people react with _fear._ If it was just "he did horrific things to people, subjugated them, and tortured and murdered people with "impure blood", then we'd be referring to Hitler as You-Know-Who. I've never seen a german person violently flinch when they hear his name. Thats more in line with people still trying to remember that he isnt suddenly going to show up
About 5 minutes in. Would LOVE to hear about more Native American cryptids. The wendigo is the only one I’ve ever heard about, but I know there’s more.
My personal favorite interpretation of Wendigo was the recent "antlers" movie that is both a monster but also a symbol of violence, suffering, pain, greed, and loss all wrapped up together
I think my first exposure to the Wendigo was that movie Ravenous with David arquette and Guy Pierce and Robert Carlyle... It essentially plays out like a vampire movie, but set in the blizzards of 19th century America frontier, very good movie in my opinion, surprisingly fun given that subject matter.
I am of Ojibwe descent, and I'm really glad that this was talked about! Though, speaking of the many nefarious energies(like The Skinwalker or the Wendigo or GaGa) is heavily frowned upon in the culture, even talking about it with my dad XD
I'm métis. Half cree but it's a double egded sword isn't it. We either don't talk about it or we tell are youngins about them and against taboo and the 3rd option is let other cultures talk about them and usually get them wrong alot of the times. It's a strange thing. Also want to know your opinion on that if it's taboo why do we keep telling are children about it. It's never made sense to me lol but I kinda understand it

The captain of the ship who rescued them said they had finger bones in their pockets that they had smashed open and tried to scrape the marrow out of and that they barely looked human once they brought them on board. It’s always crazy to stop and think “I might not be here today if my Great, Great, Great, Great,Great Grandfather hadn’t resorted to cannibalism, or if he’d have drawn the shortest straw so to speak. I could picture mysef in every horrible moment, well done man.
There was a show on NBC a while back called Fear Itself that had an episode called Skin and Bones that dealt with the Wendigo and the person slowly turning into one was masterfully played by Doug Jones. Probably one of my favorite media depictions of the Wendigo. Funnily enough the director of that episode also played the role of the stranger with the flamethrower in Until Dawn.
The oldest usage of the word "goon" goes back to a 1921 issue of Harper's monthly in an artical by U.S. humorist Frederick J. Allen titled " The Goon and His Style" where goon is discribed as a person with a heavy touch who lacks a playful mind. In short, a goon is an enforcer, typically for a criminal organization (like the mob). Gtowing up in rural America, I never heard the term "goon" to discribe someone who goes out into the woods with night vision. We just called those guys poachers because that what they where typically doing, poaching.

He put a spell on the name because he knew the only one who wasn't scared enough to do it was Harry. That's how the death eaters find him
@ThatIsDumb that's not stupid. What part of "terrified" do you not understand?
Also. Yes, imagine it is a teenager who says it while drunk. Death eaters arrive. They see that it isn't Harry. They leave.
At no point does this ruin his plan.
@ThatIsDumb it's like a signal.
I somehow didn't know that...
@elenacottica386 If it happened the second time he took over, logically he would have done it the first time. Which would make more sense by the way people react to hearing it. Being uncomfortable with it is one thing, but people react with _fear._
If it was just "he did horrific things to people, subjugated them, and tortured and murdered people with "impure blood", then we'd be referring to Hitler as You-Know-Who. I've never seen a german person violently flinch when they hear his name.
Thats more in line with people still trying to remember that he isnt suddenly going to show up
Wow, Jackson had a BONECHILLING intro, I felt like I was listening to corpse husband back when he would just read scary stories
Glad they continue the Jackson cold open tradition
How about BeBusta, that was my go to way back in the day, idk why I started using them as videos to go to bed to 😂
@@JustTryingToUA-cam Ohhh man BeBusta, that goes way back, love him too!
Omg yes & Mr nightmare 😭
Corpse husband needs to start making those videos again, I'm tired of rewatching lol
Yeeeeah, absolutely love Ravenous, didn't expect it to get a mention since it flopped so hard but man I was hoping.
final exams goin on pause we gotta new red thread episode babyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!
isaiah talking about supernatural (the show) is like both my worlds colliding
Love how he knew the exact episode too while trying to play it off like he barely remembered lol
I showed my mom this podcast and she really likes it!! Y'all are reaching entirely new demographics 😅❤
This has 100% been my favorite episode of the podcast, thank you for making great content and funny jokes 😂🫶
SO happy that Ravenous was brought up! The BEST Wendigo depiction in film !
It's never made sense to me lol but I kinda understand it
I haven’t cackled in so long like I did for this episode, I’m so happy y’all made this podcast happen ❤ thank you all for blessing my brain with serotonin hahaha
Jackson be like "you open your eyes to a wet winter night in your cold fire warmthed camp, your eyes are drowsy from your supple sleep, then you turn to you side, remembering the legends of this land and see your tent mate nibble on your leg with dead weNDIGO EYES"
I was really hoping you guys would mention Ravenous!! It's not talked about enough and I actually really love it.
Finally! I've been waiting ever so patiently for Wendigoon to talk about his family roots and backstory 😊 I've never clicked so fast in my life ❤
More people need to like this comment.
IM SIMPLY GOONING TO SEE THIS EPISODE
Charlie gives me group presentation vibes whenever he has to talk 😂
😂
You guys make my day so much better with these videos. Ive been away from home on business, and these videos help me cope with being away from my family
I always accidentally call it the wendigoon. Can't believe Isaiah made that mistake too 😂
Loved it. Very informative, while at the same time it's just bros being bros. Keep up the good work guys.
At 27:52 Wendigoons thinking of the whaler Essex! I thought of it at the same time. Such a crazy and tragic story. Mr Ballen's telling of it is pretty good 👍
Thanks I’ll go chase up Mr Ballens tale
I’m a descendant of Charles Ramsdell, one of the men who was on that ship, and one of the 2 survivors rescued.
Also love the profile picture, Conkers Bad Fur Day is my favorite game of all time.
Just saying I would totally buy a book of all the compiled show notes for each episode, that's a good idea for further down the line when more are out.
My favorite part was when Wendi screamed "ITS GOONING TIME!" and GOONED all over the screen!!
This podcast is so much better than the official podcast. The best hosts plus wendigoon? Can’t beat it
I’m Dakota (a branch of the Sioux dialects: Dakota, Lakota, Nakota) it’s interesting how there’s different versions to say “Wendigo” when they said “witiko” it made me think of, “Witko” in Dakota which means “crazy” or “not in their right mind” 🖤😊 I love how respectful you guys are to Native indigenous cultures. We are very misunderstood 😢 ❤🎉
You guys should have a native guest. I’d love to see that as a native viewer 🖤🥰
wait i’m confused isn’t isaiah native ? i may be stupid though if not im sorry, thank you for sharing and i’d also love to see a native guest!
@@d1sasteroid I have no idea if he is lol. I'm from western Canada and he is southern US, so if he was then the tribes would be vastly different anyway especially concerning the Wendigo since it doesn't originate in Sioux territories or southern US tribes. Haven't been watching him for very long. Yet :) but if he has lineage then that would be awesome
“Antlers” directed by Scott Cooper is an awesome Wendigo movie. Guillermo Del Toro was involved with this movie as well.
I mean it’s not “like cannibalism” it is cannibalism. A wendigo origin is someone commiting cannibalism in the extreme cold.
Ravenous is a FANTASTIC movie. The music in that movie is just 🤌. Its got spooky themes, amazing atomosphere and the location is beautiful. Definitley some funny moments that dont detract from the movie at all. If anything it adds to it. 9/10 movie for me
the music is soo good
this is my first time tuning into a Red Thread episode, been listening to the Official Podcast for years-
I thought this was just gunna be a Jackson audiobook; that intro had me totally enraptured, like holy shit.
that was equally enthralling/ terrifying as it was beautifully vivid. I could picture mysef in every horrible moment, well done man.
"Goon" in Australia is a euphemism for cheap wine (usually sold in a cardboard cask)
😂 yeah makes me chuckle
Thanks... now I have the horrific image of somone shoving a wendigo into a juice press to get that wendi-JUICE so they can make some wendi-GOON
I've been watching a couple months but finally subscribed specifically to go towards the million sub mark lol
42:20 killed me hahahaha. They do say that man is the warmest place to hide.
Crazy That They Got A Real Undercover Wendigo On The Podcast
For the moment around 57 or 58, y'all could totally name the event the Wendigangbang.
Goongers
another excellent episode of the red thread!! i just wanted to correct 34:53 that in the game it specifically says a bite does NOT infect you. emily's bitten and is almost shot before someone looks in the hunter's journal and confirms that she won't turn into one
Fun fact: Isaiah’s name isn’t based on Cherokee mythology, it’s actually based on what he was arrested for doing at a Wendy’s.
The dynamic in this pod is unmatched
