Hey EJ, thanks so much for this tutorial! Unfortunately, as you know, it looks like Facebook dropped support for 3D files (other than fake 3D photos). Maybe you could add an *Attention* to the description of this video so people don't get all the way through only to find this out the hard way :(
Hi EJ! I'm a big fan but I have to disagree with one thing. If your project is set to SRGB you should bake your textures with an SRGB color profile. Baking the textures with a linear profile may look exactly the same in C4D but in a .glb/.gltf viewer the colors will be crushed. Also the texture baking tag only plays nice with one layer of legacy specular. That's how you get the best results in my experience, and I tested just about every setting possible.
Really having some issues uploading to Facebook , for some reason I can't do what you are doing ? I can do all the parallax photo effect images but I just can't add any 3d content. Do you know of any issues at the moment with Facebook ?
Hey EJ, replying to your other comment since the video was removed: Yeah, the Character Object has very few tutorials. I tried rigging my complex-humanoid character with Joints but the Character Object has so many good features. It'd be nice to see a run-down on all of the tools you can use, like the IK legs, Jaw, and Wings, as well as the proper way to animate each part.
Not sure if you would have an answer for this, but Facebook has greyed out all the .glb files. Even after exporting a very basic sphere with only a white material Facebook doesn't let me select or upload it (I've made sure to check the export settings against yours and that it's a .glb file) Thanks for the amazing tutorial!!
People / subs / randoms who are lucky enough to have found EJs channel - DO C4D basecamp from school of motion if you want all bossman best tips and tricks! I just completed it and cannot say enough good things about it!
Tip: you can now open GLB/gLTF files in Adobe Aero (on mobile), and then export to USDZ from there. It's the lowest hassle method of creating USDZs from C4D that I've found.
Thanks for the tutorial EJ ! Regarding the texture size, you chose 512x1024… but it is an example, you can totally choose 512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048 and so on. The rectangular shape doesn't do much, except adding twice the pixel amount on one side. Question : when baking and then applying the jpeg to the diffusion channel… shouldn't you uncheck the ambient occlusion ? For the colors being off with the texture applied i'm puzzled too. What about checking the baked jpeg file in photoshop for it's color encoding ? Maybe during the baking process the created jpeg file goes goofy with another stuff like SRGB again… might be a good idea to check this out. Thumbs up, subscribed, and thank you so much for your time put to share this knowledge !
dokMixer thanks for the added info!!! Facebook info says it prefers a ratio of 2:1 or something like that, but yeah I assume those other sizes are fine! Don’t know why Facebook specifically recommends that 2:1 ratio. Thanks for watching!
Re your other questions, the AO won’t be baked via diffusion if you wouldn’t need AO checked, right. Because the AO would be coming from the AO Shader in the diffusion channel
@@eyedesyn Hi ! No, they are not telling you to use a 2:1 ratio (from what i understand of their text), but more that you can only use dimensions that can be of dimensions of 2. If you multiply 2 par 2 several times… you find quickly 128, 256, 512, 1024 and so on. They just need every side to be dividable (?) by 2. So yeah, 1024x1024 is fine, 2048x2048 too, and any combination that is not a square but with correct dimensions are ok too. :)
@@eyedesyn oohhh… god i lack so much knowledge in shaders and baking. Thanks for the infos, will have to spend more time on this to apprehend of this really works.
Hi EJ, great idea! :) Is there any chance to add a sketch&toon material on the object and export that to facebook? It would be amazing!!! I gave it a try but all I achieved was a muddy grey surface on the object. May you have an idea? Thanks a lot!
Hey Norman ! Thanks for watching and the question! So like I mentioned in the video, it only supports basic color channel info and that's about it, so anything like a renderer like Sketch and Toon or Octane, etc, none of that is supported unfortunately!
Hi EJ, I remember vaguely there also being a option to export a video where you export the camera view 360 degrees. So you can do this but with a high poly object, cos it exports frames. I think it was flash so it doesnt work the same anymore. Would you know an option like that? And would it still work on sites like facebook (or more interesting for professionals, linkedin). Im really curious about your opinion! :D
Please tell me how I can get my texture to stay intact after being converted through blackthread. I have an .fbx with a texture which contains an image. When I run it through the converter, the image texture disappears. How do I get around this?
jonald lalas everything needs to be baked geometry so if hair supports being baked into geometry, yes. But not sure. Hair would really bring up the file size so the Facebook thing wouldn’t be viable
Asım Hocagil doesn’t matter what I use, it’s what kind of work do you want to do and what renderer you feel comfortable in! Do some research, try the trial versions, and see what you like the best! Every render engine has its own strengths and weaknesses and none of them are the absolute best
buen día, quiero poder descargar el pluguin para exportar en glb pero los links que dejaste en la descripción, me envían a tu página y ahí no se donde encontrar la descarga, podrías ayudarme?
Hello, thank you so much for the tutorial, it is really helpful. I am working on webVR, I have some animated 3d models. When I tried to export gltf, I find I cannot find the animation clip name when I need to program the animation-mixer in aFrame. Could you please kindly suggest and help?
Their GLTF exporter is BROKEN most of the time. Simple objects don't export correctly most of the time. I convert things to FBX then use an online GLTF converter and get much better results. Maxon needs to fix this POS.
Finally a professional covering this topic in detail. Thank you!
nullito the term professional can be loosely used here haha thanks for the kind comment! :)
Just in case anyone missed it, Facebook has discontinued support for 3D posts.
Hey! the blackthread link is not really working....
The best tutorial out right now. Thank You!
appreciate that, Crystal! :) thanks for watching! :)

hey man! so i found a more straight forward way to reset the FFD as it's not the same workflow you mentioned in your comment, but def check it out!

cool!

Can you do a tutorial on how to "correctly" do USDZ export along with C4D materials?
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial. How to export glass materials with gltf file type from cinema4d?
Unfortunately the GLB upload doesn't work anymore. The format is not recognized, for whatever reason.
for real???
its a huge bummer ...Facebook discontinued 3d posts...:(
@@eyedesyn any idea if they'll be bringing it back?

Why my c4d r23 doesnt save textures while exporting? I've marked the appropriate checkbox, but it's only colors in the result

Does Cinema 4d support its on inbuilt rigging system character to export as .gltf?
sorry to bother. can we export GLTF with only sketch toon - chalk? I just need the wireframe...
Hi, thanks for the tutorial! Great! Is there a way to export vray material, or does it works just with standard material?
Thank you so much!
Only standard! doesnt support third party render materials!

I don´t know what is wrong but the glTF plugin by Maxon Labs doesn´t appear on the Cinema 4D 20 list. Btw, I put it on the plugins folder.
Junior Versianni did you restart C4D? And did you place the entire folder in the plugins folder?

Can more videos for text effect in C4D??
