Jennifer! I work on Outlander books for the show. I've personally foil blocked a few of them now! We made a leather chessboard for them a while back and have had a steady flow of book props they have used on screen. Any book you see used on screen in the new series I have helped make :) My colleague uses your coptic stitch technique to teach people in the classes we offer hehe. Always loved your videos! x
Wow! That's awesome. I can't wait to see your props in the new season! I've always been curious how movies and shows go about getting book props made. Maybe there will be another Outlander inspired book on my channel inspired by your books :D Thanks for the love!
I am a huge Outlander fan, we have a group of 6 ladies that get together and watch each episode. I was wanting to make them something they would love and this is perfect. Thank you for sharing your tutorial.
Hey Outlander fans, here's a DIY traveler's journal inspired by Outlander Season 3! FYI - this video contains some spoilers 😉More info and links in the description! Who else is excited for season 4? 🙌
Dear Sea Lemon, Yesterday I asked my best friend at school who her favorite UA-camr was and she said you! So,I asked her what types of videos you make and she said you make a lot of journals. Then,I said okay,I’ll check her out! Your new subscriber, ElectricEel75 P.S. this is the first video of yours I watched and I loved it!!!
Hey Sea Lemons [people who subscribe to this channel and wonderful person who makes the videos 😉 That means you, Jennifer. And I love all the Gabaldon books and shows too! I hope your 2021 is going well so far. I just found this channel a few weeks ago and have been catching up on the playlist [mostly the bookbinding stuff, too much fun, my head's full of book-sewing] I think you told us to put #sealemon on these idea posts. Not sure if that's right tho, Im a fossil when it comes to social media stuff. So here we go anyway... 10:45 I have a way to make your own carbon paper out of pure graphite, I learned it in college from my Biology Professor and it works a treat!: You will need: 🍋 tracing-paper type paper {artist's tracing paper, onion skin paper, whatever paper you have that you can see through somewhat. Any paper will work but the thinner kind makes it easier to see what youre doing placement-wise. A student friend of mine had wax paper but I cant remember if that worked well or not. I think he got wax all over his pencil lead when he went to transfer You'll have to try it if youre curious enough. Some kind of thin-paper works best. Anyway...} 🍋 graphite dust (we art students always used the graphite shavings dust from our mechanical pencil sharpeners because there was always tons of it and its pure graphite and it was free. lol Take your pencil lead to a sheet of sandpaper over your tracing paper if youre desperate to make the g-dust without a sharpener, messy but effective) 🍋a 1/2" or larger watercolor/wash-type brush.--> I should imagine those Hake [sp?] brushes would work great {we didnt know about them 30 years ago in school so we used 1" watercolor brushes. We were still learning our equipment options. NOTE: I dont know what Rubber Cement Thinner would do to synthetic brushes, we were using natural hair bristles so PLEASE test on an old/unloved man-made bristle brush before you try synthetic to make sure this process wont melt them. ] 🍋 Rubber Cement Thinner (Bestine) [made of Heptane from pine tree resin and/or related to petroleum {its in gasoline}? = smelly/fumey ... might melt petroleum products. It's used to dissolve gummy adhesives and resin-like substances] NOTE: this Thinner is VERY flammable like gasoline, so no flames/sparks/intense heat/electrical appliances operating near wet thinner. Please treat this process with the same respect as you would intense oil painting fumes - use a lot of ventilation such as doing this outside or by an open window. Read the label on the Rubber Cement Thinner and know what you're working with because over-exposure to fumes will make you dizzy/nauseous and long-term exposure can make you weirder than you probably already are. Read the label on the Bestine/Thinner to understand the safety precautions before you begin. I'm not trying to be overly-dramatic about it, it's just that this process works great and I want you to be safe while you do it. Darwinism. Now for the fun part, Make your carbon paper: 🍋 Stack a bunch of blank sheets to become carbon paper sheets for future use OR Print image with computer printer like Jennifer did, that will be your 'tracing' paper OR draw your design image for project transfer onto the 'carbon' paper blank Then flip the sheets over and begin making the following mess on the blank side: (Best if you do this next step over a surface easily cleaned/on craft paper blotter/not over actual project-plastic/rubber cutting surface/away from clean bookmaking surface, Bestine is going to soak 'carbon' paper through and could dissolve petroleum/rubber- based products underneath or soften them till thinner evaporates. Best avoid accidents/equipment damage with forethought) Oh, and wear a dust mask to be safe, especially if youre by an open window... dont need to be breathing in flying graphite dust either! 🍋 Sprinkle some graphite dust on the parchment/tracing/copy paper blank side 🍋 Dip the brush into the thinner [best if you pour a tiny amount onto the brush/into dish to soak brush instead of dipping brush repeatedly into the can of thinner. Unless you enjoy dingy grey thinner, then by all means dip the dusty brush in it as much as you please. lol] 🍋 Now paint the thinner over your dust/paper as efficiently as you can, smearing the graphite 'wash' over the surface to cover it evenly. The thinner will want to evaporate soaking into paper faster than you wish so you may have to recharge your brush with thinner/add more graphite a few times to get the surface coated to your liking. How much graphite to keep adding will be a matter of practice/testing for application to project, but you'll get the hang of it after you've played with it a little. My school friend went on to use pastels' dust to make pretty-colored carbon paper, but I dont know how useful/practical that was. No harm in playing in it though, so why not?! After paper is thoroughly dried, maybe pressing it with an iron onto project might transfer in a neat way/make something neat happen. Dunno. When its completely dried, it no longer smears easily or comes off the paper without pressure. Use it as you would reg carbon paper, the graphite transfer will act like regular graphite pencil and you can easily erase it if you dont emboss it/grind it into the fibers of your project. Using a pencil or stylus to transfer the graphite carbon matter works great. Most often it transfers a light, well-defined line to the project substrate, all depending on how thick a layer of sealed graphite you prepped your carbon paper with. Experimentation and practice to see what it does is the key to making this a helpful tool for the right projects. I've made it sound more complicated than it is, but I didnt want to leave anything out and make you find out what not to do, the hard way. I hope this inspires & helps you repurpose your pencil lead shavings to make the World a more beautiful place. At the very least it will have allowed your Inner Child to have fun making a big pointless mess. Could've been worse, its not crayon drawings all over the painted white wall (which Bestine may possibly clean up, not sure. It gets out oils/waxes/rubber adhesives. lol) Have a nice rest of your January and stay Safe and Contented. Now go inside and play!
Roxy Moreno it's red leather with a really ornate cover, embroidered with the word Genovia (I think I spelled that correctly), and her locket is the key to the latch.
I love your channel and i love outlander. I read the books when they came out so i have been following Claire and Jamie since the 90’s. I think the TV-show really does justice to the books. The travelers book is really beuatiful and awesome! Thank’s for your great content ✌️
Hi there! I absolutely love your tutorials! I've always wanted to learn how to bookbind ever since and you made it so easy for me! I was wondering if you could make a Supernatural inspired tutorial like for John Winchester's journal. That would be super cool! You're amazing!
I am obsessed with Outlander, I've read all the books and have religiously watched the show since it first started! love the book and keep the great videos coming Jennifer you inspire me to create more and more with every video :)
Hey Jennifer, I just have to say that this design is perfect and that you 'nailed it'...it so 'fits' the Outlander theme. I too am a HUGE fan of the series! I so appreciate you sharing this....thank you!
Fun fact, so I knew my family was Irish and for years we had a last name or family name but I could find no record of a specific pattern for us.... until now. I asked a friend of mine who is 100% Irish and is also a geneologist and she came back with in five min with our family tartan. So I think I'm gonna use that. :D
This is So beautiful!!! I first read Outlander book in 1998! I was not really a book reader but my mom (RIP)insisted and I was absolutely hooked by page 50! And even my daughters have now read them- haha! The Starz series is very well done too! Bravo to you and your wonderful accomplishments! Very cool!
I just want to say thank you so much. The way you talked about Outlander intrigued me. I 've just finished all 5 series and it was one of the best things I've ever watched. Great journals and tutorials as well. x
Not an Outlander fan, just a huge Sea Lemon fan! But after watching this video, I so want to watch Outlander as well because it sounds really cool. And that journal is super nice!
Hey Jennifer! I love your tutorial. I do have a great tip for binding signatures. Try folding all of the pieces of paper at once into the signature. It will make your paper edges flush.
hello miss lemon, I have to say, your enthusiasm for Outlander is contagious. The premise sounds intriguing, so I had to order the first season DVD and will be binge watching that when it arrives, and your journal above is gorgeous. thx bunches
I Love TN!! It's my favorite organizing method. And I'm completely in love for Outlander!! You joined two things that I really freakout!! Best tutorial ever!
Oh my gosh, I love Outlander so much! 😍 This tutorial is amazing! 😊 Such a cool idea 🤗 Keep doing what you're doing, you are such an inspiration! ❤️ Sending you lots of love from Norway ❤️🇳🇴
This is rad. I’m making a gift for my first wedding anniversary, which is symbolized by paper! Perfect project for my paper and textile stash. Your channel inspires me to finally start a textile art channel. Stoked I found you!
OMG you are the one who got me hooked on Outlander! THANK YOU! I love this show/series can't wait till Feb/2020 for the new season 5. Love your bindings trying to learn with your videos.
Have you ever thought of doing a Charmed-style book (there was also the Dark BoS & the spell-book of Tuatha; it was red, I think- at least she wore red [it's been a while!] Mia's diary in the PD movies reminded me of it)?- I loved that show, & watched it all the time- I also watched Witches of East End, but it was only ever ok to me- I liked Killian & Dash- but they aren't Cole (I love me a fellow Antipodean!) or Andy. I loved watching this- cheers from Australia!
FRICK YEA GIRL, GET THAT SPONSORSHIP!! I’m so proud of you! I love this book you made, and I love the idea of using it as a photo album as well. Not to mention, the travelers notebook style means I can continue to add/take out pages if needed 😍😍😍 Thank you for this awesome video, Jennifer! And congratulations on being sponsored by your favorite show 🎉🎉🎉
this tutorial is PERFCT! It's exactly what I needed! I am writing a little story right now, and when I finish it I want to print it and make a lil nice book for myself, with a hard cover that looks like leather and a lineart design on it, like the one here. I had no ideea hod to do it until now, or what materials to use!
Hi, Jennifer! I saw your post on Instagram and came directly to watch the video, I love traveller's notebooks and Outlander. I actually read the first book and I have been postponing watching the show because I've been meaning to read the rest of the books first, but I'm so tempted to watch it! Also, I've made a passport version of a TN with your previous tutorial and I love it, it's what I'm using as a planner now! Thank you for the tutorial, I will definitely give it a try in the future, once I'm able to get my hands on the materials. All the best from Argentina! :)
Marianela Sanchez WATCH IT! The author of the books happens to be the consultant on the show and is VERY protective of her books so the show is staying pretty true to the books. I found that watching the show helped me through some of the tougher parts of the books not to mention it helps having faces to go with the characters in the book. Happy watching!
I am absolutely in love with this journal! Outlander is one of my obsessions, and season four could not be here sooner! Please male some more Outlander inspired projects (a dragonfly in amber, perhaps?)! I'll have to get my crafty mom to help me with this travelers journal (she loves making them!), haha.
Partner with Sony, nice. I love this show, I am excited for season 3, waiting for it to come to Netflix, but it is taking forever. I made a photo album for old family pictures, but this looks way cooler.
Looks like an interesting project. I've been making mine out of laminated paper, but have yet to try fabric. Thank you so much for including links to all your supplies! It makes picking up similar supplies when I need it a lot easier. ;)
OMG new to journaling altogether but not to OUTLANDER! My absolute favorite books and show. Wish I had seen this video when I started journaling. But no reason I can’t make my next cover an Outlander one.
Absolutely love your videos and tutorials but this one just hit me in a different spot! 😍😍😍 will definitely try to make one for myself! I also love that you give a list of materials to make this just like you did it. Thanks a lot for sharing!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤❤❤
Girl you are so amazing! I am a HUGE Outlander and Jamie fan. Next to Poldark, Kurt Seyit and Sura and Velvet it's my favorite show. I am definitely going to make this but I will try to put my own spin on it. Thanks for such a great video.
i've been looking for a date stamp like that forever!! so glad i saw your video and decided to check it out!! a lot of the date stamp i've found have preset years up until a certain time and i didnt want that. thanks for your link!
You can use the same idea and use prints and stuff from other fandoms if you like something like this but are more of a my little pony, harry potter, or selection fan etc
I'm so excited to try this out! I just tried out bookbinding and I'm so in love with it! What a relaxing hobby :) Thank you for these incredible videos!
Hey Jennifer! I just wanted to tell you that your videos inspired me to start bookbinding. I've been watching since the kettle stitch/basic bookbinding vid first blew up, and I was finally convinced to make my own book after trying to convert my filofax to a traveler's. :)
Wow congratulations. I just adore your channel, and wanted to thank you because I recently ordered some tools and made my first Coptic stitch journal following your tutorial💜 I definitely need to keep working on it, but it was so much fun and I can’t wait to make more fun journals
I love you, 'coz you look like my favourite niece online! I also like your works on these books and booklets!!! You are so amazing and soooo talented! Thanks For Showing your crafts! Ciao
WOW a spoiler alert in the actual video would have been nice. I've been waiting to have time to watch this and now I know an obviously big spoiler. Great job on the journal, but a BIG spoiler alert would also be nice.
To be sponsored by your favourite serie is success in life! Congratulations, Jennifer!
Yes! I never thought Jaimie and Claire Fraser would make an appearance in one of my videos 😍

You guys should definitely invite her to work with you guys sometimes!
Uu
Cool that’s so cool
I am a huge Outlander fan, we have a group of 6 ladies that get together and watch each episode. I was wanting to make them something they would love and this is perfect. Thank you for sharing your tutorial.
Love how it's just SO DIYed. Down to your own TARTAN PAPER. So beautiful.
Loving the use of the binder clips. Such a simple solution.

okay, WOW you are a wizard at painting straights lines !
I don't watch Outlander and have no interest in starting, but this is a pretty awesome notebook.
wow...that looks amazing, really ties in with the Outlander series - it's gorgeous, any time traveler would be well pleased to carry it with them
I love the music that sea lemon added to the video
It gave me pirate vibes
Please make a version of Mia Thermopolis's diary from the Princess Diaries movies.
Moonlight wolf what did her diary look like
Just curious
Roxy Moreno it's red leather with a really ornate cover, embroidered with the word Genovia (I think I spelled that correctly), and her locket is the key to the latch.

I had to read the first book for a class I took last year about popular culture and the media. It was fun.
My mother is a HUGE outlander fan. I am going to make this ASAP but possibly using real leather if I can get some.

I always make my bullet journal for the year, and I use your River Song's diary tutorial, because I LOVE it!!!! You are the best, than you so much!!!
Actually I was exhausted but when I saw your notification I just cheered up
This is really cool! Spoiler alert for Season 3 though if you haven't seen the whole thing/read the book.
This is AWESOME and, hooray, no frilly bits in sight!
Omg! It’s not a doodle diy. Lol. I’m glad it showed up in my feed. 😊
OMG!
Outlander is my favorite show! I’m waiting for the next season

Partner with Sony, nice. I love this show, I am excited for season 3, waiting for it to come to Netflix, but it is taking forever. I made a photo album for old family pictures, but this looks way cooler.
Oh😍😍😍 I am a huge fan of outlander!!! Thank you so so much!!😍😍☺️🌺
Looks like an interesting project. I've been making mine out of laminated paper, but have yet to try fabric. Thank you so much for including links to all your supplies! It makes picking up similar supplies when I need it a lot easier. ;)
I don't even watch Outlander. But this book looks AWESOME!
OMG new to journaling altogether but not to OUTLANDER! My absolute favorite books and show. Wish I had seen this video when I started journaling. But no reason I can’t make my next cover an Outlander one.
Turned out beautifully!

Hey Jennifer! I just wanted to tell you that your videos inspired me to start bookbinding. I've been watching since the kettle stitch/basic bookbinding vid first blew up, and I was finally convinced to make my own book after trying to convert my filofax to a traveler's. :)
That turned out looking great. Nice work!
Wow congratulations. I just adore your channel, and wanted to thank you because I recently ordered some tools and made my first Coptic stitch journal following your tutorial💜 I definitely need to keep working on it, but it was so much fun and I can’t wait to make more fun journals
