  • In this video I do a test to see how these batteries I've used for a long time compare to each other. Compiled results are past the 6:00 minute mark. The point of this video was to verify and show that 3rd party batteries can be decent in long term, not to rag on OEM batteries. Obviously, there will be use variation over the ~5 years I have used these batteries, but at the very least the Nikon, Wasabi, and Power2000 are around the same age chronologically. See my Wasabi battery video form 11/2012: • Wasabi Power EN-EL15 3...
    It's the same battery as the one in this test.
    These batteries claim to function with more recent Nikon cameras:
    Watson EN-EL15 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack:
    bhpho.to/2GmpMtC
    BM Premium 2 Pack of EN-EL15B Batteries:
    amzn.to/2IKMXkd
    I haven't used them personally, so I can't verify.
    Get the latest version of the Wasabi battery here:
    amzn.to/2zfrxGl
    Make sure it's compatible with your camera!
    The test consists of performing a 5 and a 10 minute video recording on each battery with a Nikon D600. All of these batteries have been in use for many years, which keeps the results grounded in long term reliability and consistency. I use all of these batteries frequently and have for many years (the Power2000 less-so than the others). I try to use OEM chargers whenever possible. It is my opinion that you can find decent 3rd party batteries as long as you are careful about making sure they have a good deal of legitimate reviews. I might still have the one I got with the Wasabi batteries, but I don't use it.

    One issue is that 3rd party batteries tend to have a slightly higher voltage than originals, so they might fool the camera. I know this is old but could help others :)

    The only sure way wouod be to use until camera stopped. It is easy to wrongly report to the camera left over power.

      Yes, voltage is not going linearly down from full to empty. The worse the battery state is, the faster it will drop voltage in emptier state, which means that it might show like 90% of charge on the screen, but in reality it will be deplated from charge very fast.

    Thank you for making this 3rd party EN EL 15 battery comparison. It's now 2021. May we know which among these batteries still hold its charge and still work? Which one do you like the most & why? Btw, how's the focus speed in low light for the D600 vs. other Nikon bodies? What lens do you pair it with? I'm thinking of selling my D700 & getting a D600 or another full frame body.

      I don't have any of this equipment anymore, sorry. The frustrating thing about the D600 is the small area of the frame that autofocus covers. I'd suggest saving up more for a D750. That was my favorite Nikon.

      The battery is from 2012 as are the other ones mostly (maybe not the Promaster). I think the Nikon's lower power at the end is just because it has been used more than the other batteries. Though I'd say I use the Wasabi batteries almost as frequently. I also mention it's possible the other batteries don't report power as accurately as the Nikon.

      Yes, I know. The 3rd party batteries probably can't even register that feature. Basically the OEM battery is meant as a baseline. All of them are around the same age. The point of the video is to show that 3rd party batteries can be decent.

    Have you ever used green machine en-el15 they sell on adorama?

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  2 роки тому

      I haven't, sorry. This video is old. Though I did start using Nikon again with the Z5 but I currently only have two official EN-EL15c batteries. Haven't felt the need to try 3rd party batteries with it yet. Make sure the product listing says your specific camera. By the end some of these wouldn't work with their current DSLRs. I'd only expect them to work for the current generation of cameras.

      @@ScottJWaldron thanks, I’ve decided to go that route, looks like I can use the en-el15c in my d7500!

    Hi
    Just bought a used nikon d7200
    Charged it 100%
    Used it (live view , viewfinder ,af)
    After only 60 shots
    From 100% my dslr shows its at 12%
    Is it my battery or a defect in my dslr?

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  3 роки тому

      It does sound odd. I have no idea what brand you bought, so maybe the battery isn't reporting the correct charge amount if it's a 3rd party one (I assume getting a replacement wouldn't change that). You should contact the company that you bought the battery from instead of some random person that makes videos, lol.

    Hi, I am currently having a big issue, I have D7200 and 4 Nikon original EN-EL batteries, yesterday I was shooting an event and the current battery I was using showed had over 50% while recording but then whole camera died while I was in the middle of recording about 10min and wouldn't turn back on, I replaced the battery and it turned on. Is it the battery that was on needs replacement? and do you know anyyy way to recover that footage that was recording when it died? I see a few unplayable files in my SD on my computer but it won't play with VLC or any other player, can you help?

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  4 роки тому

      You would need software that pulls the raw data off of the SD card and attempts to reconstruct the files. If you want to go that far, do not write anything else to the card. I've never had luck with this (especially video files). Sorry, I don't know of specific software off hand. Search on terms like "sd card recovery" or "recover files from sd card". The last time I tried it I used the software Sandisk suggested (the cards I bought came with a license key for like 6 months of use, looks like that was called SanDisk RescuePRO)

      Hi, I had similar experience however with my old GoPro camera. It gave an error during recording. I can see the file is there but couldn't open it. If I'm not mistaken there is a code on video files which tells those programs the end of file and when such things happen (sudden death or fatal error) this part is missing...
      I google it and found a program that will solve the issue on steps. first it will take the original file and separate it to audio and video files and in the second step you join them and they'll work.... sorry I don't remember the name of the program as its been long time since but would advice you to look up for the problem as if you were shooting using GoPro (those small cameras have much more issues so you'll find many solutions )

    I had a duracell one, charge only 4 times in 2 years period, and is dead now.

      It's odd that a big company like that would release junk. I'm going to try to stick with Wasabi branded 3rd party batteries for now. I picked up 4 for my current camera system.

    Hopeless. Battery info is not correct in aftermarket batteries. Run record till camera stops then compare length of record...

      Sounds like a test you should run and create a video on then if this data is of no use to you.
